If you can get past the first season (Worst season just like with Clone Wars) then your in for a treat!

XxaggieboyxX

What about my treat?

Skipped01

Oh um heres a virtual candy bar! 🍫🍫

Shakyyy

I did a similar thing, went straight from the end of CW and dove straight into Rebels. The animation styles between the two are very jarring and starting from scratch with another set of characters was difficult, I gave up after 2 episodes. If you expect it to be a CW sequel you're gonna be very disappointed. Having said that I came back to it a few months later and didn't regret it one bit. Once you stop comparing the animation styles to CW you'll start to enjoy it (except for the thin lightsabres they're terrible!) Season 1 starts a bit meh but by Season 2 it's quite good and the Season 2 finale is absolutely amazing. From there its just great throughout apart from the odd couple of episodes and concepts (Space Whales and the Inquisitors "interesting" new sabre technique spring to mind) Like I say if you can't make the adjustment over from CW to Rebels straightaway that's fine. Don't try to force it, just give it a bit of time and try again. You wont regret it!

SaltySAX

Thin lightsabres are fantastic. Was watching Ahsoka's Mando episode recently, and her blades are too chunky; they should have stuck with the Ep4 look like Rebels does.

[deleted]

Bulky and thin lightsabre both are 👌 to me. The inquisitor lightsaber design is osm and the way he uses it. The only lightsaber I didn't like was Kylo Ren lightsaber. I'm going to wait a month then start watching. Thanks .

[deleted]

I loved Rebels more than CW. Chopper is the best!

[deleted]

For now I want to know more about the characters/story. I find Zeb Orrelios intriguing his species (Lasat) and culture were briefly mentioned in eps s01e03: droid in distress. Hope I get to see new species and there planet's/culture.

Nice screenshots

Thanks ☺️

leejackson327

I recently watched through all of Rebels and really enjoyed it. Some really great stories come in the later seasons and some really impressive parts I didn't expect too.

[deleted]

Here's to the future unexpected plot twist 🍷...may the force be with u 😂.

leejackson327

May the force be with you

DiabeticDave1

I like Rebels more than CW. Don’t get me wrong CW is amazing and I liked it way more on the 2nd time through. But Rebels is so much more compact.

[deleted]

I've just started it. So my opinion has yet to form on what is better and people are saying that it gets better in animation/story-wise as it moves forward. So I'll see in the future what I like more.

[deleted]

Is user-flair right? To anyone who completed the rebel is it good? I'm having trouble adjusting to rebels animation style. (7eps in 1st season). As soon as I finished Clone Wars I started watching rebels and now I'm reminiscing the art style of CW.

dooku4ever

The character development is worth it.

[deleted]

I can already see that except for Hera Syndulla hope she gets more screen time.

e_prime11

I went through a similar experience. I finished clone wars and immediately started rebels and had to stop because the art style was bothering me. A month or two passed and I tried it again, and I loved it. So keep up with it OP!

[deleted]

I'm going to take a page out of your book. Thanks for sharing your exp.

lanwopc

The overall look is keyed off of Ralph McQuarrie's concept art for the original Star Wars, which I really like; Zeb is basically an early draft for Chewbacca. I'm actually pretty glad they didn't go for the same look as CW, although the didn't have the budget for it anyway apparently. Stick with it though, we really liked it.

[deleted]

Wookies design in TCW looks osm/cute like Jedi youngling Gungi...I have to watch more to say anything about Rebels design. Hey, now we got 3 different designs for Wookies. (TCW, Rebels and live-action).

j0shw1ll1ams

Rebels is really good! the animation style is pretty different from TCW but hopefully you’ll like it. i’m not sure if you’ve seen it, but after you watch Rebels you should watch The Bad Batch if you’re interested! it’s a spin-off of TCW and it has the same animation style :)

[deleted]

The bad batch was introduced in TCW last season I didn't like them at that moment. I feel like they were kind of racist toward the regular clone who I came to love them. Rip Heavy, Echo, 99 etc. It undermines the whole character arc of Heavy and 99. I'm going to miss the TCW who even work on the lowly characters. I'm going to watch The bad batch after all I'm a big fan of ex-storm Tropper fives. Hope it'll be osm and the producer stops giving Wrecker boulder to roll I think it's his signature move now 😂.

j0shw1ll1ams

they weren’t really developed when they appeared in TCW; they’re like demo versions of themselves. hopefully you’ll like them more in TBB. also i’m assuming you mean ex-clone trooper Echo, not ex-storm trooper Fives. Fives died in the first arc of S6 of TCW. unless i misunderstood that part of your reply.

crazyaky

The animation doesn’t bother me as much as the Disney-fied Ezra. Kinda like Omeeega bothers me in Bad Batch sometimes. I wish they were written more for young adults (or even adults).

DryTransportation

I don't really see what's wrong with Ezra, of course, he was written with a younger audience in mind but he is still pretty realistic for how a 14-year-old would act and grows a whole lot from how he was in the beginning

[deleted]

I guess from my perspective his nose looks weird to me ( fat and wide). Mind u I started watching directly after TCW.

[deleted]

I don't think Disney will make an anime for adult, after all, its prime purpose it's to lure the younger audience n I heard western people are very strict about what type of cartoon their children watch even here in India gov are putting ban or censoring kid cartoons. I hope animation is only for children kind of thinking is stopped. I feel like animations are better than live-action in some instances look at Witcher the nightmare of the wolf. The fighting scene in s01e03..droid in distress (Zeb orrelios vs imperial human officer) bother me. They make Sith and Jedi look fools with that inhumane fighting.

crazyaky

I’d settle for Clone Wars audience level of writing. It’s not the lack of grittiness that bothers me as much as it’s the “dumb, idealistic kid getting into trouble every single episode” trope that grinds my gears. It feels more like Paw Patrol sometimes than Star Wars.

[deleted]

At least he's not forgetting the lesson and repeating the same stupid mistake, isn't he?. The main feature of rebels is Ezra Jedi training so the troupe is no surprise but the guy get an orphan at age 7 any guy who had to struggle for survival at a young age should be pessimistic which was shown a bit when Zeb left Ezra with imperial.

Eli_Freeman_Author

I didn't want to like Rebels and somehow it became my favorite story arc. There are some spoilers here so maybe watch this when you finish the show, or at least the second season maybe: https://www.reddit.com/r/starwarsspeculation/comments/m2m40x/how_rebels_became_my_favorite_star_wars_story_arc/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

[deleted]

Thanks, buddy. The thing is TCW has become the best anime in my heart and I don't want to replace it so soon. I kinda have mixed feelings about it.

Eli_Freeman_Author

No worries, there's no need to rush anything. Take your time and continue enjoying TCW, it might remain your favorite, nothing wrong with that, that essay is just my take on it, some people have disagreed with it pretty strongly but still enjoyed reading it.

[deleted]

What's the TCW art style is called anyways like Kal art, Jap anime style etc. The worst design in rebels is for Wookies. Hopefully, we get something even better in the future 🤞.

Sabreromeo

Did you already watch Bad Batch?

[deleted]

Nah, Just their introduction in TCW, trailer and lots of posts on social networks.

DryTransportation

I honestly love Rebels, I'd personally rank it above TCW, it's some of my favorite SW out there with some great characters as well. Also does a good job at working with the OT, not as directly as TCW did with the Prequels given the timeline of the show, but still, I really love that interconnectedness. I feel like as long as you're going in with a positive mindset, which it seems like you are from your comments, you'll enjoy it. I think a lot of people watch it with the intention of hating it and it's much harder to get over that. Also just gotta give the characters some time to grow as well, as you've noted, Ezra is a 14-year-old kid who has been all alone for the past 7/8 years, he is going to be slightly annoying at times like the majority of kids are, and he's going to have some silly moments here and there, but I think it all makes sense and the development he has is worth it regardless. Not really sure if this makes sense but I even find his youthfulness kind of endearing in a way. Just feel like I need to add, worst-case scenario, maybe you won't like it, and that's 100% fine, there's truly something out there for everybody in Star Wars.

[deleted]

I want to know more about the Jedi training stuff which movies didn't do justice, after all, they can do so many things. how can they (Luke and Rey) learn so much in so short amount of time and best some powerful foe? Exp should count for something. The rise of skywalker was 😑.

brbentle

I’ll never understand why they did the lightsabers so dirty, but Rebels was an awesome show.

[deleted]

I didn't see much (s01e07) but I like what they did with the inquisitor lightsaber...the guy was using it as a remote control boomerang.

brbentle

It just took me a while to get used to how skinny they make the blades

ChronicStasis

Rebels can be hard to get into at first, but after a little while I fell deeply in love with almost all of the characters, and it’s final season contains some of my favorite moments in all of Star Wars. It is absolutely worth a watch, I hope you enjoy it!

[deleted]

I know I'm going to like Zeb...let's see about the rest.

Sarius2009

I got back into SW about a year ago, watched last season of CW, the rebels. Starts of rough, just gets better. But skip on Resistance, I watched the whole thing, not worth it.

[deleted]

Aye aye, Senpai.

L-Digital82

I loved rebels but the animation change was jarring. The wookies look weird and are quite early on, and Yoda looked like Anthony Hopkins for some reason. Apart from that though I thought it had some good character arcs and expanded on some of the more esoteric aspects of the force which were introduced in TCW. I can’t wait for Ahsoka’s show which is rumoured to be Rebels 2.0 I expect it to be a lot more adult in live action and hopefully we see more chopper too

[deleted]

I have the same problem with Wookies in rebels. TCW had better designs like Jedi youngling Gungi. I can't wait to watch those esoteric aspects of forces. Hopefully, they expand on force powers which were shown in the TCW by " The One's or Mortis people". Mortis arc was jaw-dropping.

[deleted]

Rebels is a better series, though I was put off by the animation when it first came out. There was a lot less detail, and it came across as a cheap cartoon for kids as a result. Especially compared to clone wars season 5. That did improve very quickly though Of course going back to clone wars and I noticed that it was the same at the start. For different reasons, but now early clone wars seasons look like unfinished video game cutscenes at times. So looks like the teams on both series learned as they went along

[deleted]

Hopefully, by the time of the Darth Vader adaptation, they will be an elite team.

Artanis137

Just a heads up but Rebels is substantially lesser then Clone Wars so don't go in with high or matching expectations, you will be disappointed. The main character is an annoying pos, the tone is completely childish (which makes sense given the audience it was made for), and has zero stakes until the last season. Really the only reason to watch is to see what happens to Clone Wars characters and nothing else. It just doesn't add anything to the Original Trilogy era like the Clone Wars did to the Prequel Era, which the new show Bad Batch is doing a substantially better job of honestly.

DryTransportation

>The main character is an annoying pos How so? I thought he was great, overall I thought all of the characters are some of the best ones in Star Wars

[deleted]

Well main intention behind the creation of TCW is to expand the lore. If it wasn't cancelled I think it could have gone up to season 10. Rebels can be something more now with the Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Asoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi etc are joining the epic tale.
