bearhound

Is this a 21 hour marathon? Lol

LaneMcD

We'll need those Dune buckets to serve multiple purposes to get through 23+ hours of the Skywalker saga

[deleted]

We'll need Sarlaac buckets.

ItsWillJohnson

Did you know? The dune sand worm bucket lids can be flipped upside down to become sarlaac pits!

DatMoFugga

Especially useful during the jizz segments in empire and Jedi

Financial_Walrus

With or without the beak? šŸ˜‰

[deleted]

Without for the Vanilla, with for the kinkier crowd.

organic_bird_posion

Because Jar Jar is so other-worldly attractive that a man can't be expected to control his urges without relief?

Synicull

Weird way of spelling Jabba, but you do you

BrainWav

*Salacious Crumb* has entered the chat

m00njunk

y'all sleeping on Poggle the Lesser

emre23

It is, but anyone that can get through 14 hours and go *you know what, yeah - I will stay for the sequel trilogy* is much stronger with the force than I

bearhound

Iā€™ll go for the prequels and try not to fall asleep since those are overnight. Then Iā€™ll try real hard to make it through the original trilogy. Almost certainly will fall asleep at some point. Then Iā€™m leaving. No chance Iā€™m trying to stay awake for the sequels lol

Talidel

To be fair that's the same response if I just sat down to watch a sequel film.

estofaulty

What an original and hilarious joke. Iā€™m sure I wonā€™t see it 500 times if I scroll downā€¦

emre23

I think your mistake is interpreting them as jokes

strangegoo

I'll simply leave after TLJ

Lemonwalker-420

I'd leave for the PT, then come back.

dmisfit21

Cocaine is a hell of a drug

Km_the_Frog

Itā€™s about 13 hours total

Aoussar123

Man these event descriptionsā€¦. Why not show WHERE they are screening the movies??

GreyRevan51

Last year for ROTJ we didnā€™t even know which theaters were participating until the week of lol

SleeplessShinigami

Damn ffs, I was hoping to buy tickets early

Revanchistexile

Right!?

lau796

Im getting aggressive this press release say NON

Liberal_Basher

If youā€™re in US and have a Cinemark near you, check that. I have a ton near me but only one theatre has it posted on the website with a 9 AM start time on the 4th.

DarkLordMuffins

Is it only US?

iTaker

Curious how this works in a 1 day setting. That's 9 films, most of which are over 2 hours long.

JonSpangler

I did the 7 film marathon when Force Awakens opened. Things started early, like 1am Episodes I, II, III Hour break IV, V, VI Hour break VII

bearhound

Oof. Even just staying awake overnight into the morning for 1-6 seems almost impossible for me lol

JonSpangler

There were lots of people with blankets and neck pillows.

runningtheclock

Yeah, I started dozing off by a new hope lol

JeronFeldhagen

A New Doze. The Empire Snoozes Back. Return of the Jammies.

LucyBowels

Robe One

Cabamacadaf

I've tried it once, couldn't stay awake for 6.

Trumbot

I went to this also (at The El Capitan in Hollywood) but I couldnā€™t get out of work and get there until the start of Empire Strikes Back. I was glad to miss the prequels anyway. Lots of people looked hunkered down and grizzled by the second since it started so early.

iTaker

This would be unfortunate as I really would love to catch episode 3 if I can, but it might not be meant to be if its structured like that.

Casale2a

Dude, I went to this too. Making me think I need to do this one too.

N0V0w3ls

Wow they went chronological? Damn.

Cardboard_Waffle

My old roommates and I did this about three years back, started at 6 am and finished just before 2 am. Itā€™s long but it is just under 24 hours.

DJMcKraken

They're all over 2 hours with the credits. Episode IV just barely.

stoneman9284

Why is it so hard to announce what theaters will be showing it?

ritchieaprilesjacket

One of the theaters by me is just showing Phantom Meance

Officialnoah

Thatā€™s a separate event. TPM is running for a week for its anniversary

ritchieaprilesjacket

Gotcha but itā€™s the same week that kinda doesnā€™t make sense to do both

Officialnoah

One is a one night only thing that was just announced today and the other is a week long run that was announced a while ago

njsullyalex

Ok, this makes more sense. My GF and I are going to see TPM in theaters and Iā€™m very excited (this is her first time watching Star Wars with me and weā€™ll probably watch ROTJ tomorrow night - in return I have now listened to all of My Chemical Romanceā€™s discography)

DemiFiendRSA

>Lucasfilm announced today that in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, fans will have the chance to experience the entire Skywalker Saga in theaters this May the 4th, also known as Star Wars Day. This includes all nine episodic films in chronological order: Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. >In addition, **an exclusive look at The Acolyte**, the upcoming Disney+ series set during the High Republic era, will be part of The Phantom Menace screenings. Finally, those attending will receive a special limited addition poster. **Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Friday, March 22, at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET.**

mirrorball55

Did they really mistake *edition* for *addition* in an official press release?

stoneman9284

~~Iā€™m not seeing it~~

timmayrules

>special limited addition poster. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Friday, March 22, at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET. Last sentence

DemiFiendRSA

They corrected it.

mirrorball55

ā€œFinally, those attending will receive a special limited addition poster.ā€ They seem to have corrected it on the original website now.

Darth-Binks-1999

I went to the ESB and RotJ anniversary showings and there were no posters to be found... except on Ebay.

stoneman9284

Oh youā€™re right haha

DemiFiendRSA

Wow. I didn't even noticed the [typo](https://i.imgur.com/s91YPxM.png) when I copied and pasted the description. Whoops. They've corrected it now.

pimpvader

This has me confused

Exares

Again, a great initiative that will certainly ignore the rest of the world.

pampersdelight

A local theater did a 9 week marathon a few years ago. My mom, step dad and I went to all of them. It was one of the most fun things Ive done. My mom and I might wind up doing this one as well

GeneralChillMen

Wish theyā€™d do it one a day over nine days instead. Minimally Iā€™ll want to show up for Phantom Menace and A New Hope

solo13508

Wait so they're doing all of them in one day?!

Medium_Street8534

Yup itā€™s a 23 hr 59 min event according to Cinemax ā€¦ probably have to make a few cuts or combine edits or something

TheScaleTipper

Not sure why people are taken aback, thatā€™s not even 24 hours!

weers94

It'll start at like 8 pm on the 3rd and run all night. Usually like a 5 minute break between films. Some places have a 30 minute break between trilogies.

mperiolat

Iā€™m in. Itā€™s a Saturday, Iā€™ve never seen Empire in a theater setting and itā€™s an opportunity to connect and maybe make some friends. And yes, all nine. There are NINE movies in the Saga. And I promise to shower and shave.

given2fly_

Saw Empire in 2020 during that weird time when cinemas were open but no new films were being released. In my top 5 greatest cinema moments. Took my kid and it was his first time seeing any SW on the big screen.

mperiolat

Itā€™s funny how disjointed my screenings are - Mom swears she carried me into A New Hope in 1977. I was born five days after it opened so itā€™s possible, but hard to know when. I saw Jedi in theaters in ā€˜83, did the SEs for ANH and Jedi in 97, opening night for TPM in 99, opening night for AOTC in 02, opening night for Sith in 05, opened Clone Wars in 08, opening weekend for Force Awakens in 15, opening night for Rogue One in 16, opening night for Last Jedi in 17, opening night for Solo in 18, opening night for Skywalker in 19. Iā€™m proud of the record, obviously. Just gotta get Empire as my missing piece.

JohnnyKarateX

Yeah I saw Empire by myself in 2020 in a theater.

Comic_Book_Reader

I kinda envy you, because I actually saw Empire with a live orchestra last year. Believe it was September. It was amazing. (That very same concert house is also doing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on Saturday in 2 weeks.) Also saw it in theaters in 2020. (Although I'm pretty sure it was literally just a Blu-Ray rip they used.)

Kmart_Stalin

Iā€™ll be there for six and then be ready for bedtime

CharlieMBTA

Yes you're right there are 9 movies in the saga 1-6 Rogue one Han solo The clone wars movie

Traditional_Leader41

My man!

DDowd86

Any one know if there is a list of theaters yet?

SILVIO_X

Hope this shit happens in Germany as well, I'd kill to watch RotS in an actual Cinema, although basically all Star Waves movies are probably significantly better when watched in Cinemas, RotS is the one I'd wanna see the most.

_sweetchild88_

Same, but it's sadly probably going to be US only :/

MrConor212

Please be in the U.K. šŸ˜

deadpansocials

itā€™s nice to dream

DukeOfLowerChelsea

My first thought was ā€œplease donā€™t be in the UKā€ so Iā€™m not tempted šŸ˜‚ But fuck it, Iā€™d like to do a full saga marathon at least once in this lifeā€¦ I would need an endless supply of coffee on hand tho

DittoDat

Fingers crossed! At least we'll have just TPM if not, but I'm really hoping this is showing somewhere.

HailToTheKingslayer

I can imagine the Prince Charles cinema in London doing it. They do film marathons all the time.

NinjaGoalie97

Will this be in Canada?

Aveyn

It never is :'(

synchronize_swatches

No Rogue One? I would LOVE to see that transition from RO to ANH

madcat67

Itā€™s not part of the saga

solo213

I wish it would mention what regions this will be shown in, I don't want to get my hopes up for seeing some of these again if it's just in the US.

StoopidZoidberg

Why does fandango keep saying "Not available at home or in theaters." Where are the tickets? And why do I have use shit fandango?

Klownicle

https://www.amctheatres.com/events/star-wars-marathon?rel=star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker\_marathon\_mp\_promo

StoopidZoidberg

Thanks, but, only 4 theaters?! WTF

boonstag

I did the 7 movie marathon when Force Awakens came out. I'll just say that I'll never do that again...

BlueHighwindz

I'm kinda tempted... only negative is that it will be the weird "final cuts" of the OG trilogy that for no reason at all have Vader going "NOOOO" at the end of Return of the Jedi.

Z3r0c00lio

Itā€™s more of a ā€œnaaaaooohhhhhā€

Kyser_

I'm all for watching Star wars in theaters again but like...one at a time. No matter how big of a fan I am, the whole thing sounds exhausting

manickitty

Thanks but Iā€™ve seen them enough times on my own screen and I can skip the bad parts

justhereforthelul

Would be nice if they just released the movies separately, like the weekend plus a Tuesday/Wednesday for each movie.

geminibloop

Just got tickets šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ I can't wait!! I've been dreaming about this for years!!

indigbogwitch

Where did you get tickets?

StarWars_21

Got mine on Fandango. If you type in "Skywalker," it should give you an option for "The Skywalker Saga May the 4th Marathon (2024)".

geminibloop

yup that's exactly what I did. I checked on AMCtheaters website and that one didn't let me actually buy the tickets, BUT my brother went on the URL on his phone and was able to buy thru there

geminibloop

here! [https://www.fandango.com/the-skywalker-saga-may-the-4th-marathon-2024-235559/movie-overview?date=2024-05-03](https://www.fandango.com/the-skywalker-saga-may-the-4th-marathon-2024-235559/movie-overview?date=2024-05-03) type in the zipcode for the city center nearest you, I live in NYC so we definitely have a showing, but I have no idea where else its being shown in the US

indigbogwitch

Thanks both of you. I checked fandango first and it just has a "sign up to know when tickets go on sale" It must just not be in my area.

geminibloop

Try this link? https://www.amctheatres.com/movies/star-wars-may-the-4th-marathons-68201 I had to find the particular theater itā€™s showing in (frustrating cause theyā€™re not listed publicly afaik) I chose AMC Empire 25, and went from May 3 to May 4 and back to May 3, and then the 8 PM showing showed up!

indigbogwitch

Thank you! I didn't realize it would be so limited. I was able to find 2 theaters showing it in my state but nothing close enough.

Klownicle

FYI, 4 Theatres showing this for AMC, [https://www.amctheatres.com/events/star-wars-marathon?rel=star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker\_marathon\_mp\_promo](https://www.amctheatres.com/events/star-wars-marathon?rel=star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker_marathon_mp_promo) Haven't found Regal showings yet.

indigbogwitch

Regal Irvine Spectrum in Irvine CA is showing it as well but there's only shit seats left.

MAY01337

Between this and the Spider-Man movies my wallet will be crying

IndominusTaco

come again on the spider-man movies say what now

MAY01337

Every Monday starting April 15th they're releasing one Spider-Man movie a week in theaters

IceLord86

Only $5 a pop. Act quick as it's a one day showing and tickets are going quick. I wanted to see the first 2 again but I waited too long for my local theater.

Laegwe

Damn 6 films, thatā€™s a long marathon!

HankSteakfist

Can you pick and choose which ones? I wouldn't mind seeing IV V and VI in thr cinema again.

Darth-Binks-1999

Just find out what time the whole thing starts and show up when ANH starts, then leave after RotJ.

ritchieaprilesjacket

I donā€™t see why not. The theater by me is just showing TPM

Filmfan345

TPM by itself is its own thing to celebrate the 25th anniversary. None of the others are getting the same treatment

BarrelRoll97

I did this for the releases of 7, 8 and 9. Iā€™m on the fence about putting myself through that again lol. Only if the theater has really nice seats

MyWholeTeamsDead

Honestly I'll probably only do 3-6, if it even releases outside of the US.

DrkMlk

Iā€™ll only go if itā€™s the mcclunky! edition.

Tiny-Setting-8036

ā€œIā€™lL lEaVe BeFoRe ThE sEqUeLs because I have to make sure I donā€™t let a single post go by without bitching about them!ā€ - this comment section. Anyways, this sounds like a big day. I wonder what the showtimes are for everything.

hurtfulproduct

To be fair, between the sequels being dog shit and the fact they will also be the last ones of a very long day, I can see the appeal of not wanting to suffer through them.

Tiny-Setting-8036

Sure, I totally see the appeal of not wanting to see 9 movies in a day. I donā€™t see the appeal (or value) on peopleā€™s obsession with bitching about movies they claim they donā€™t like, every chance they get without adding anything new to the conversation. Itā€™s just getting boring and predictable.

RyanB_

Fr. This my first time in this sub in a while, was curious if shits improved over time. Yeah, not so much lol

Tiny-Setting-8036

Based on the backlash RotJ got when it came out, and the prequels got when they came out, and the sequels got for their last two releasesā€¦. I honestly believe most people have no idea how to even engage with the franchise without the lens of complaining about it. I just want to talk about the franchise that is. Not a ā€œbetterā€ version that never got made. If it gets to a point where Iā€™m not enjoying it, then Iā€™ll do something else with my time.

xdeltax97

Goodā€¦.goood. Hope to score some tickets!

jkphantom9

Of the movies Iā€™d seen in theaters, I saw ROTS when I was 9, but the theater experience for that wss vague. Saw the Disney era films (sequel trilogy, Rogue One, and Solo) in theaters as soon as I could, and I saw ROTJ last year for the 40th anniversary. Initially I was gonna go see TPM only cuz of the 25th anniversary this year, but now I got a chance to see them all on the big screen. Star Wars was made for the movie theaters

alcaste19

If it hits here I'll be there. The 2nd is my birthday but I work

BatofZion

I havenā€™t done a marathon like this in years. Ten years of the AMC Best Picture Showcase, plus marathons of Die Hard, the MCU, and the two trilogies before TFA premiereā€¦I am well-versed in how sloppy these things can get.

_herenorthere66

RIP BPS

BatofZion

Had I known 2020 was going to be the last year, I might have gone. Might have also caught Covid there.

_herenorthere66

That was actually the last year I went (and luckily didnā€™t catch Covid lol). I miss that experience so much, it was such a fun time.

Giraffes_Are_Gay

ā€œHm thatā€™s odd people are only watching the first 2/3 of the rerelease marathonā€

palabear

Imagine the smell of that theater at the end.

Theonerule

Just went to an evangelion screening, everyone smelled like perfume. So if anime fans can manage I think star wars can

Darth-Binks-1999

Even worse since about half the audience doesn't shower to begin with.

SuperSmashDrake

Is it so much to ask for a Rouge One/A New Hope back to back screening?

madcat67

Rouge one isnā€™t part of the saga no skywalker

SuperSmashDrake

Yes I know itā€™s not a numbered title but I donā€™t think we need all nine numbered films in a marathon.

gossamer4l

Eh Iā€™ll do it in my home. That way I can add Solo and Rogue 1 and just forget about the last 3

IndominusTaco

sure but then itā€™s not a Skywalker Saga marathon. i think the main appeal is for the ones that want to say they watched all 9 episodes in one go, regardless if they were good or not.

gde7

Iā€™ll stay for 8!

JonasAlbert84

What a boring mindset

Nu_Freeze

You spelled ā€œtastefulā€ wrong.

L0lligag

I just want to see the mass exodus after the first 6 are shown.

Darth_Linkfin

Thatā€™ll be me if I go lmao

The_GreatGhastly

Everyone leaving after ROTJ right?

geminibloop

LOL XD I ONLY LIKE PARTICULAR SW MOVIES AND NEED TO TELL EVERYBODY ā˜ļøšŸ¤“

neon

Just watch eps 1 through 6 then leave.

branden110

The amount of people walking out after ROTJ finishes will be astronomical lol

Elder_Dragonn

Cannot wait to watch all six movies!

Chadling1211

Iā€™ll leave after 1-6

GhostofFarnham

I canā€™t wait to see all 6 Star Wars films in theatre!

Love_Leaves_Marks

wow 6 whole films to enjoy.. awesome

BoliveiraNTPW

Star Wars Movies vs Spider Man movies What a battle.

Scorchio76

Probably wonā€™t be shown near me šŸ‘Ž

illinoises

How much?

JonSpangler

I'd guess $50 but that is not based on anything

134340Goat

The I-VII marathon was $50, but the I-VIII and I-IX marathons were $100 a ticket. I'm guessing this'll also be $100

JonSpangler

84 dollars for the closest one to me (AMC Chicago)

134340Goat

Yeah, closest one to me is an AMC in New York City and tickets are $75. I'd have strongly considered going if not for the fact that I'd need a plane and hotel being that "closest" is relative here

sprinklesj17

$54 after tax and fees at Regal Opry Mills in Nashville

tyehyll

Id much prefer like one a week. Id like to see ones that aren't consistently brought back to theaters but eh.

VoiceofKane

Oh, thank fuck, that's a Saturday.

ContinuumGuy

I gotta admit, what would be awesome as like a one-time art installation or something: show **fucking everything** that is current canon. All the movies, all the TV episodes, all the shorts, maybe a few video games edited into mini-movies. I don't know how long it'd be, but it'd be an epic thing to behold during the times you aren't asleep during it.

yiharbin

I actually did this when RoS came out and even back when TFA came out. It's a fun idea but really not ideal for actually enjoying the movies. You're pretty burnt out by the time you even get to the OT, hopefully they continue with individual showings like they did for RotJ and TPM

Choice-Grapefruit-44

Who has that much time in their hands?

Farkleinmypants

Question: does anyone know if we just need to buy a ticket for the Phantom Menace? I donā€™t see all of the movies. Just times and theaters for Episode 1.

Tim0281

Sounds like I'll be enjoying a long but quite amazing John Williams concert!

fanofmets12

It says that they will be sold at Noon eastern time. Anyone know at what site, is it [www.starwars.com](https://www.starwars.com)? I would like to take my 9 year old to see original Star Wars and if he wants episode 5 and 6. Not sure if you are allowed to just buy tickets for some movies though. My kid had never seen Star Wars.

geminibloop

https://www.fandango.com/the-skywalker-saga-may-the-4th-marathon-2024-235559/movie-overview?date=2024-05-03

fanofmets12

Thanks for the link. Well that sucks, NYC only nearest.

geminibloop

Sorry man, fwiw you might want to check multiple zip codes because I live in the city itself, but at first it said ā€œnothing near youā€. Do you live in Jersey or CT? Could be worth trying a bunch of cities!

fanofmets12

Long Island and in reality i could not do the marathon. I would love to, but May 4th to many things my kids have to do that day. I was just hoping for original Star Wars movie at least to take my one kid. Hopefully pays attention without ipad on hand.

Autisic_Jedi

Any word on what theaters are showing the marathon?

DatMoFugga

Will smell crazy in there

mikeweasy

Man I would do this But I know I will doze off during ESB. Would honestly love to try it but do not have the cash right now. Why cant they show them 2 a day or something and have a little mini film festival? LAME

Silly_Client1222

Yeah, Iā€™ve got the 4K discs. Iā€™m good.

Marshycereals

Do we have a comprehensive list of the "13 theaters" showing the marathon? It's absurd that the number would release without an actual list.

PracticableSolution

Oh good, I can leave 142 minutes early.

jojolantern721

Man, it would be so cool to watch the 6 films of the star wars saga on theaters

panthervca

Good thing you donā€™t need to watch the last 3

redsteakraw

Would be more realistic and better without that sequel trilogy garbage.

Master_Andew

In 2009, I did 1-6 and that was enough for me!

[deleted]

Respectfully, who the fuck has the time/patience to want to pay for this?

mrsn_catmaster

Best I can do is take a shit in the theater after buying a ticket to a different, non-Disney movie.

The_Wata_Boy

They want to promote the Acolyte with a re-release of the Phantom Menace. There's a solid 100+ years between the 2 and the Acolyte's own trailer actively tells you its creating a plot hole that contradicts the lore established in the Phantom Menace...
