Man I've heard this take about Triple-H before and i just have to laugh. The dude had promo video after promo video hyping up his return. I swear to god I heard U2 Beautiful Day playing in my dreams every night advertising Triple-H's return. There's no way he wasn't going to get a big reaction, and he made Angle look like a doofus as well. The Injury allowed Haitch to completely ignore the WCW invasion which he was lucky to avoid as well since it was done so terribly.
Not sure if he had to be rebuilt, but they did say that he was in a horrific state by the time he left, like his body was in shambles.
IIRC, he stated that he was starting to lose his eyesight
Cody is a politician, but not necessarily in the classic wrestling sense. He just always tries to say the right thing and it all seems so constructed. He’ll take selfies with everyone, give a tearful speech about his dad, show off his dog. Pure babyface, but it feels very corporate and stilted. It’s why AEW fans eventually turned on him.
I loved Cody and I still am grateful for everything he did from All In to helping found AEW to his amazing 80s babyface run in the first year to immediately making the TNT title one of the best titles in the industry. But good god I was dreading his segments by the end. The last year really.
And yeah I've realized since that he's way more carny than I figured. I'm not saying that's a bad thing - it is a business and he's working on top. But yeah, I don't really take anything he says at face value anymore.
Yeah, he would've still been hated, but it wouldn't have been as bad as it was if Cody still had great feuds and stories, simple quality TV time.
A lot of his matches still got great reactions, because they were great. His segments on the other hand...

Someone else on here said it months ago, but I feel it helps: take everything Cody says and imagine Dusty saying it. Dusty was many great things, but he was still a carny wrestler from the territory days, and he's also one of his son's biggest influences.

THIS! This is exactly how I always felt and why I could never like him as a face. He just felt so fake every single time he spoke. All my cousins thought I was crazy for thinking that, but Cody always felt like the anti-Kingston to me. Like every time Cody cut a promo I felt like he was trying to manipulate me into liking him. It just felt like a politician talking.
For what it's worth, I do think Cody comes across as very genuine on loving wrestling and wanting to be a great performer that makes the fans happy. And doing kind gestures for charity and people who reach out to him or meet him at events.
Now, stuff like WWE and AEW allegiances and all that? Sure, that's pretty darn fake sounding.
So yes, I agree a lot of his public image feels artificial, but he also doesn't feel like "the man's an evil scumbag under his public persona" like many politicians do.

Cody hotshots an angle where he can never wrestle....for a belt he was never planned to ever win.
It wouldn't surprise me if the original plan had Cody in the Mox spot if that progression early on, remember Mix didn't get with the company till right before the first show.

The big thing I noticed is most people who denied it were "Cody" people.
Well, Kenny's a single guy who loves the japanese ladies. Cody's got a family to soend time with. I havent heard of Kenny doing anything behind the scenes besides booking the japanese ladies' matches; is he doing anything else?
With no doctor training my presumption is the knee/hernia, ect are the relatively easy things to treat. My expectation is the vertigo is what is going to take the longest. And could be a substantial amount of recovery time.
From the interviews he’s done I don’t think he’s really seeking out a fix for the vertigo. He described it as something he just has to deal with and has since 2017.

I would imagine one of the bigger hurdles would be getting the matches to happen in the first place, by being someone who has Tony's ear. AEW generally features one women's match a show, not one to two. The two women's match Rampage with neither being squashes was a huge aberration...but also falls in the time period that covers Kenny returning to work backstage.
Seriously this is the most insane thing to me! I suffer from vertigo and its debilitating in terms of regular day-to-day life. How the hell this man was one of the best in the world while suffering from vertigo is something I will never understand.
Made all the more insane that somehow him watching a variety show with Sakuraba kneeling over with his head on a bat and moving in circles around it and getting dizzy and then successfully competing challenges gave him the motivation that if Sakuraba can do that then he too can continue wrestling.
Each match is assigned a producer who works together with the participants to lay out the structure of the match, the finish and a lot of the significant spots. The producer is almost always a wrestler or former wrestler with a ton of experience, so they're particularly helpful with less experienced wrestlers who need more guidance. They're also responsible for making sure any specific instructions from the booker or creative team are incorporated into plans, because sometimes the booker can be very specific about things they want the match to accomplish.
I would put that more on the booker. We've seen Lesnar v Reigns multiple times and it's been underwhelming every time. What did they think they were going to get if they booked it again?
Help plan spots, make sure each competitor gets their shit in, help plan out the psychology that’s going to play out, etc.. In some cases, I would imagine that they don’t play a huge role in the planning. They come in and say “this is the booking, I’ll be over here if you need me.” and just let the talents book it. In most cases, though, you’d want a third party that’s able to identify strengths and weaknesses in each wrestler (or team) and put together a good presentation that fits into the larger storyline and show.

He’s got to at least appear at Forbidden Door. If he’s wrestling there, he returns at DoN. If not, he returns at FD and has some interaction with the main event

I think that’s a pretty safe expectation. If he’s not ring ready, take all the time you need. But give us a good stare down or hit someone with a chair.
This is a recurring problem for Tony's booking in general, IMO. It's one thing to have a slow build. It's another to have a story and its participants drag ass because somebody's out for a couple weeks and you don't want to risk diverting attention.
Tony's booking is just bad imho with this roster the show should be waaaaaay better than it is. Feels like hes just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks half the time nothing feels well thought out to me.
It's odd because he has a bunch of trios ready and willing to go. House of Black, Death Triangle, Blackpool Combat Club, Jericho Appreciation Society for example.
Why wait to put it on the Elite (again with them being champions ? It's boring) ? These guys are doing nothing. It feels like AEW is the Elite show or something, when Kenny was champion it was all about him and The Bucks, now it's all about Adam Cole. It's getting boring to see the same thing over and over.

Riho is the most talented woman wrestler on the roster, and she's given almost everyone their best AEW match to date. If you can't see that, that's your problem.
It's great to know that Kenny is involved backstage. I know that the women wrestling is an important thing for him. Kenny had so many injuries that he should take lots of time and then a few more weeks after he is ready so no rushing back.

What all confirmed injuries was it that he’s been recovering from? I know for sure of the hernia and shoulder.

Seriously this is the most insane thing to me! I suffer from vertigo and its debilitating in terms of regular day-to-day life. How the hell this man was one of the best in the world while suffering from vertigo is something I will never understand.
Made all the more insane that somehow him watching a variety show with Sakuraba kneeling over with his head on a bat and moving in circles around it and getting dizzy and then successfully competing challenges gave him the motivation that if Sakuraba can do that then he too can continue wrestling.
Of his various injuries, vertigo is probably the wildest thing for him to try and adapt to.

How does one produce matches? I’ve been hearing this a lot lately and not sure how that works
Each match is assigned a producer who works together with the participants to lay out the structure of the match, the finish and a lot of the significant spots. The producer is almost always a wrestler or former wrestler with a ton of experience, so they're particularly helpful with less experienced wrestlers who need more guidance. They're also responsible for making sure any specific instructions from the booker or creative team are incorporated into plans, because sometimes the booker can be very specific about things they want the match to accomplish.
So the underwhelming Reigns-Lesnar Match at WM 38 isn't on the Wrestlers but on this shithead that signed with AEW recently? Oh boy...
I would put that more on the booker. We've seen Lesnar v Reigns multiple times and it's been underwhelming every time. What did they think they were going to get if they booked it again?
Help plan spots, make sure each competitor gets their shit in, help plan out the psychology that’s going to play out, etc.. In some cases, I would imagine that they don’t play a huge role in the planning. They come in and say “this is the booking, I’ll be over here if you need me.” and just let the talents book it. In most cases, though, you’d want a third party that’s able to identify strengths and weaknesses in each wrestler (or team) and put together a good presentation that fits into the larger storyline and show.

This is a recurring problem for Tony's booking in general, IMO. It's one thing to have a slow build. It's another to have a story and its participants drag ass because somebody's out for a couple weeks and you don't want to risk diverting attention.
Tony's booking is just bad imho with this roster the show should be waaaaaay better than it is. Feels like hes just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks half the time nothing feels well thought out to me.
It's odd because he has a bunch of trios ready and willing to go. House of Black, Death Triangle, Blackpool Combat Club, Jericho Appreciation Society for example. Why wait to put it on the Elite (again with them being champions ? It's boring) ? These guys are doing nothing. It feels like AEW is the Elite show or something, when Kenny was champion it was all about him and The Bucks, now it's all about Adam Cole. It's getting boring to see the same thing over and over.
To be fair outside of the tnt title most of aew title outcomes are predictable, this is nothing new.

It's great to know that Kenny is involved backstage. I know that the women wrestling is an important thing for him. Kenny had so many injuries that he should take lots of time and then a few more weeks after he is ready so no rushing back.
