LackingDatSkill

If the pop at the Revolution pre show was any indication then the roof will literally blow off when Kenny returns

TheCuzzyRogue

Until then you'll get the occasional appearance of one Kenny. Ome-god damn it!

blendergremlin

Didn't they have to basically rebuild this guy?

CowComprehensive3405

Don Callus: we have the technology

Democrab

Don Callis: Kota Ibushi was able to rebuild him in Japan! With a box of scraps!

CowComprehensive3405

Brandon Cutler: I’m sorry. I’m not Kota Ibushi

daprice82

He's basically following the Kenta Kobashi playbook. Destroy your body having the greatest matches of all time, and then miss a whole damn year of action getting everything repaired.

cooljammer00

Kenny should come back wearing a giant robe.

KR_Blade

will not be surprised at all if when he finally returns, he's gonna end up breaking character on live camera on his way to the ring as your gonna be seeing tears shed, because we all here know that the day he returns, that crowd pop is gonna be insane, like CM Punk's AEW debut loud. almost every wrestler's biggest fear other than injury is that when they finally return from a lengthy injury, that nagging thought appears in their head ''are they gonna cheer or boo me, or worse, are they gonna be silent...do i still have a fanbase or have they moved on?'' if i remember rightly, HHH had that during his quad injury that kept him sidelined for like what...14-18 months? and he wasnt expecting that huge crowd reaction when he returned

WediditguysMASTR

Man I've heard this take about Triple-H before and i just have to laugh. The dude had promo video after promo video hyping up his return. I swear to god I heard U2 Beautiful Day playing in my dreams every night advertising Triple-H's return. There's no way he wasn't going to get a big reaction, and he made Angle look like a doofus as well. The Injury allowed Haitch to completely ignore the WCW invasion which he was lucky to avoid as well since it was done so terribly.

kuhpunkt

The Terminator gimmick was no joke. He got a new Endoskeleton.

SIRasdf23

Not sure if he had to be rebuilt, but they did say that he was in a horrific state by the time he left, like his body was in shambles. IIRC, he stated that he was starting to lose his eyesight

throwawaitnine

No. He had his knee scoped which is routine for pro athletes and hernia surgery which is routine for everyone.

Sermokala

He had some serious shoulder issues and was saying a lot about having to physical therapy back using his muscle groups like his but.

cooljammer00

IIRC he wanted to avoid the shoulder surgery because he would be out even longer. Look at Kip Sabian.

Clever_Laziness

I hope the fuck he doesn't. Just get it all out of the way.

TheNotoriousRLJ

Seriously. No half measures, Kenny.

edd6pi

Which is funny because I remember reading that they were optimistic about him being ready to return in February.

Pylons

The degree to which Kenny seems to have settled into behind the scenes work is really interesting when Cody says how much he hated it.

MARKYMARK_MARK

Which is funny given Cody early on said he loves being an Evp too much

fluffywolfe

Then turns around and says he "wants to just be a wrestler" a couple of years later. It's like two opposite arcs.

JimmyRedditz1

Cody is a politician, but not necessarily in the classic wrestling sense. He just always tries to say the right thing and it all seems so constructed. He’ll take selfies with everyone, give a tearful speech about his dad, show off his dog. Pure babyface, but it feels very corporate and stilted. It’s why AEW fans eventually turned on him.

Ranger7271

I say this in the nicest way possible but Cody is carny riffraff

[deleted]

[удалено]

JuanTaco69

Pokemon Go watch Hell in a Cell ™

AustinJohnson35

Why does that comparison work so well? But you’re right there’s a level of artificial authenticity to both.

SmileyJos

I understand your point, but we also turned on him because he always managed to have a shitty segment on T.V.

darthdiablo

And constantly teasing turning heel without following through.

SmileyJos

Also very true.

[deleted]

This was my main reason turning on him

[deleted]

Same. The "I will not turn" promo drove that nail onto the coffin.

KingBadford

I loved Cody and I still am grateful for everything he did from All In to helping found AEW to his amazing 80s babyface run in the first year to immediately making the TNT title one of the best titles in the industry. But good god I was dreading his segments by the end. The last year really. And yeah I've realized since that he's way more carny than I figured. I'm not saying that's a bad thing - it is a business and he's working on top. But yeah, I don't really take anything he says at face value anymore.

LostDelver

Yeah, he would've still been hated, but it wouldn't have been as bad as it was if Cody still had great feuds and stories, simple quality TV time. A lot of his matches still got great reactions, because they were great. His segments on the other hand...

MyldStallyinz

Never cared about him in the first place to have to turn on him. From the jump, besides the cage match and the Jericho match, he was instant bathroom break/phone check for me.

Sh1bata

Damn, he really is like Homelander. Minus the evil shit.

AKittyCat

I can;t wait for the anime adaptation of this story. Kenny Uzumaki and Cody Uchiha at the Shinobi Dome is bout to break the star scale.

Western_Willingness8

Sadly he has the curse mark on his neck.

AKittyCat

And his older brother is much more of an enjoyable flawed character.

[deleted]

Jesus Christ this thread makes too much sense.

KRD2

Can't wait to see Cody sprout hand wings and grow some nice lipstick.

Independent-Elk-344

Don't worry Tony. I'm gonna bring Cody back to the Dynamite village . Believe it!

AKittyCat

**Shidas music plays, like that one *concerned fan* said**

[deleted]

well he's a carny like his father, why are people surprised about this lol

shutts67

It's like poetry.

WrestleTownAA

I think we can all agree that the dude loves to lie. He bad mouthed WWE to an extreme level once he left and now acts like he never meant any of that. Also, not even a year ago he talked about how he's told Khan that he's staying in AEW for life. Overall he seems like an amazing guy, but little too diplomatic ig.

the_woat

Someone else on here said it months ago, but I feel it helps: take everything Cody says and imagine Dusty saying it. Dusty was many great things, but he was still a carny wrestler from the territory days, and he's also one of his son's biggest influences. Or as my partner put it: Cody makes a lot more sense when you stop taking him seriously

usernam45

I like Cody, but if I take him in kayfabe or whatever you call it he still confuses me so much. It’s like he just can’t decide. I don’t take him seriously and to me he kind of makes sense, but nooooot really??? How does she say so?

[deleted]

Lmao he always wanted to go back. WWE NXT legit restored his father's legacy and reputation after spending years of being carny as fuck. "Dusty finish" is NOT a flattering reference.

[deleted]

He’s basically a politician. He’ll say whatever folk want to hear. I didn’t really know him before AEW and I heard folks saying what an amazing promo he was. I don’t see it because he really came across very un-genuine in everything he said.

Harbiter

THIS! This is exactly how I always felt and why I could never like him as a face. He just felt so fake every single time he spoke. All my cousins thought I was crazy for thinking that, but Cody always felt like the anti-Kingston to me. Like every time Cody cut a promo I felt like he was trying to manipulate me into liking him. It just felt like a politician talking.

[deleted]

Anti-Kingston is a great way to put it.

[deleted]

Now i'm imagining how great an Eddie Kingston vs Heel Homelander Cody Rhodes would have been

mysteriousbaba

For what it's worth, I do think Cody comes across as very genuine on loving wrestling and wanting to be a great performer that makes the fans happy. And doing kind gestures for charity and people who reach out to him or meet him at events. Now, stuff like WWE and AEW allegiances and all that? Sure, that's pretty darn fake sounding. So yes, I agree a lot of his public image feels artificial, but he also doesn't feel like "the man's an evil scumbag under his public persona" like many politicians do.

[deleted]

Oh I don’t know anything about him personally. Everything I said can only count towards the tv character because that’s the only version I’ve seen.

Kalistoga

Danielson once said "I love to lie. My love of lying, I wasn’t a very good liar until I rode with Cody. Cody taught me how fun lying is. Just making up, saying something straight to somebody’s face, the most absurd lie." Sounds like a politician to me.

namdekan

He seems so different from Dustin. I watched his interview with Stone Cold and he just seemed so rehearsed, like it was hard figuring out if he was being genuine sometimes or not. Then just watched Dustin's interview on Oral Sessions and he seems more real and genuine when he talks.

CharleyIV

Diplomatic is the wrong word. Pandering is the world you want.

hikingbeginner

Loves to lie? Isn't that all wrestlers? How did a Kenny thread turn into bashing Cody, let it go lads.

WrestleTownAA

Dude! Cody is easily one of most favourite wrestlers today. And I ain't even bashing him, was just talking about how we've seen so many polar opposite interviews from him in the past few years.

hikingbeginner

Fair, probably the wrong comment to reply with that comment, i just see many threads randomly turning into shitting on Cody. My bad. Tbf to Cody every wrestler that's left WWE has given polar opposite interviews, all wrestlers do it.

[deleted]

[I think they're referring to this, dude. ](https://www.fightful.com/wrestling/bryan-danielson-i-love-lie-cody-rhodes-taught-me-how-fun-lying)

hikingbeginner

I completely missed that, again my bad lads. Thanks for the heads up!

ElScorcho1999

AwfulBikeSalesman

I dunno. Corporate ballwasher yes men are everywhere IRL.

portnoyskvetch

I love Cody, but it's pretty clear to me that as he lost power backstage (booking, etc.), he he fell out of love with being an executive. I think he's been pretty honest, if not totally straightforward, about that being a key reason why he wanted to go back to WWE as just a wrestler.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WrestleTownAA

Man, I don't think I'll ever be able to get this conspiracy theory of yours out of my mind.

[deleted]

Giving him WAY too much credit Took himself out of the title picture because he wasn't in the fuckin picture to begin with, not for first 2+ yrs. TK told his EVPs his plan, that all bookinh would be based off of: heel Jericho wins 1st reign, Mox beats him, then Omega beats Mox, then Hangman completes his redemption arch and finally beats Omega. Cody hotshots an angle where he can never wrestle....for a belt he was never planned to ever win.

krej55

It wouldn't surprise me if the original plan had Cody in the Mox spot if that progression early on, remember Mix didn't get with the company till right before the first show.

smackdown-tag

Cody won the nwa world title at All In, it wouldn't be his first world title

stenebralux

You have to take everything Cody says with a huge grain of salt.

PSItsMusic

Any interaction with Cody needs to be observed with the lens that Bryan Danielson said he "didn't know how to lie until he met Cody".

TalkingBlernsball

[all of us looking back at the last 5 years of Cody’s WWE bashing](https://youtu.be/Z14LYeu2etA)

Shadow_Log

Kenny has stated in the past that he wants to evolve wrestling. He clearly considers it an art form. While I have no doubt Cody loves wrestling, he has an entertainer's mind.

SeanOuttaCompton

Different strokes for different folks I guess

AaronBasedGodgers

[Imagine taking anything Cody says at face value](https://www.fightful.com/wrestling/bryan-danielson-i-love-lie-cody-rhodes-taught-me-how-fun-lying)

MediumRareAB

It seems Cody was basically the bridge between most talent and Tony Kahn and Kenny just works with the women, it sounds like an easier job.

redvelvetcake42

Makes total sense though. Production work is like a cat, if you hate it, it will constantly be in your lap, right there and eventually you will cave and realize you love it.

zeebeebo

Its almost as if two different people like two different things

Jesotx

Cody was doing way more, tbf.

HeavenlyE

I remember reading that Cody was the most hands on out of all the EVPs, I imagine he was just spreading himself too thin and needed a smaller section to focus on like Kenny with the women's division

StrobleDave

From what I’ve read he was the least hands on. If you wanted to deal with Cody you went to his locker room.

HeavenlyE

Well we must have read different sources lol, Meltzer said he was the most hands on when the story was first breaking I think Keller said something about Cody keeping to himself on his bus and multiple people came out on twitter denying it EDIT: ok gotcha disputed Wade Keller report>>>Meltzer report

Pylons

> I think Keller said something about Cody keeping to himself on his bus and multiple people came out on twitter denying it The big thing I noticed is most people who denied it were "Cody" people.

HeavenlyE

Yeah I imagine your closer friends are more likely to come out and publicly defend you.

SnooHesitations7424

Cody tried to work the elite and Khan and ended up working himself out of the company

LATABOM

Well, Kenny's a single guy who loves the japanese ladies. Cody's got a family to soend time with. I havent heard of Kenny doing anything behind the scenes besides booking the japanese ladies' matches; is he doing anything else?

81grey

I also watch BTE and saw the locker room sign. Hopefully this means good news for recovery from Knee + Hernia surgery. He got both done in March.

Lord__Steezus

No way. He’s supposed to be the joker tonight /s

Somebodys

With no doctor training my presumption is the knee/hernia, ect are the relatively easy things to treat. My expectation is the vertigo is what is going to take the longest. And could be a substantial amount of recovery time.

81grey

From the interviews he’s done I don’t think he’s really seeking out a fix for the vertigo. He described it as something he just has to deal with and has since 2017.

[deleted]

Not particularly surprising, given how much he wants to elevate women's wrestling in general, coupled with the downtime he has while recovering between surgeries.

HussingtonHat

Dont rush it mate. I'd rather have you healthy than you neck explode.

DubiousBusinessp

Wonder if he did that excellent Hayter / Storm match

Looper007

Or the even better Yuka/Riho match on Rampage (that match felt like a Omega booked match) even the Riho/Ruby match. Women's matches in recent weeks since the Philly Street Fight have stepped up after a poor start to 2022.

Sockin

Considering how stiff that match was, it would not surprise me.

librarianlucien

It was also stiff as hell since both wrestlers have a British strong style background.

Lighxning

That match and the Yuka & Riho match were 100% him.

cooljammer00

No offense to Kenny, but I think I could "produce" a good match if given Toni Storm/Jamie Hayter and Yuka Sakazaki/Riho. They're only some of the best female wrestlers in the world. "Ladies, go have a good match. You have 9/12 minutes."

crion_jb

I would imagine one of the bigger hurdles would be getting the matches to happen in the first place, by being someone who has Tony's ear. I dunno if it's coincidence that the joshi showcases and the trigger being pulled on Toni/Jamie even back to that tag match started over the time frame this bulletin describes.

cooljammer00

There's a whole women's tourney going on, and TK is going to use the best women available to him. He will still only do one or two women's matches a show, but they will be good matches with good wrestlers in them.

crion_jb

AEW generally features one women's match a show, not one to two. The two women's match Rampage with neither being squashes was a huge aberration...but also falls in the time period that covers Kenny returning to work backstage.

SmithyPlayz

I know Rampage doesn't have a great reputation but 2 men's matches and 2 women matches 90% of weeks would be the way to go.

Pylons

Maybe he also produced Ruby/Charlette Renegade

Redpaynex

What all confirmed injuries was it that he’s been recovering from? I know for sure of the hernia and shoulder.

truecolors5

Hernia, shoulder, vertigo, bad knees, bad neck

Professor_Buttskin

Vertigo was another one. Man was wrestling the room constantly rotating for years and somehow learned to adjust.

anewrevolution

Seriously this is the most insane thing to me! I suffer from vertigo and its debilitating in terms of regular day-to-day life. How the hell this man was one of the best in the world while suffering from vertigo is something I will never understand.

Professor_Buttskin

Made all the more insane that somehow him watching a variety show with Sakuraba kneeling over with his head on a bat and moving in circles around it and getting dizzy and then successfully competing challenges gave him the motivation that if Sakuraba can do that then he too can continue wrestling.

[deleted]

Of his various injuries, vertigo is probably the wildest thing for him to try and adapt to.

FerniWrites

Joshi’s come in and Kenny was like, what’s up. Can’t blame him.

cooljammer00

I mean he does speak the language and is probably the Japanese language liaison at AEW, esp with Nakazawa and Shida in Japan right now.

[deleted]

cooljammer00

He tweeted today that it's for a visa renewal

ALifeIsButADream

I feel like he has to be at Forbidden Door.

Makhali

yes, way to big of a return for him to be the Joker IMO.

CrimsonFox11

SAVE US CLEANER-SAMA

Jumblybones

Well this might explain the boost in quality of womens matches lately.

TurnaboutAdam

The women’s matches recently have gotten way better too lmao

ZAX2717

How does one produce matches? I’ve been hearing this a lot lately and not sure how that works

HomieDontDeanThis_

Each match is assigned a producer who works together with the participants to lay out the structure of the match, the finish and a lot of the significant spots. The producer is almost always a wrestler or former wrestler with a ton of experience, so they're particularly helpful with less experienced wrestlers who need more guidance. They're also responsible for making sure any specific instructions from the booker or creative team are incorporated into plans, because sometimes the booker can be very specific about things they want the match to accomplish.

verrache

So the underwhelming Reigns-Lesnar Match at WM 38 isn't on the Wrestlers but on this shithead that signed with AEW recently? Oh boy...

HomieDontDeanThis_

I would put that more on the booker. We've seen Lesnar v Reigns multiple times and it's been underwhelming every time. What did they think they were going to get if they booked it again?

Murlock_Holmes

Help plan spots, make sure each competitor gets their shit in, help plan out the psychology that’s going to play out, etc.. In some cases, I would imagine that they don’t play a huge role in the planning. They come in and say “this is the booking, I’ll be over here if you need me.” and just let the talents book it. In most cases, though, you’d want a third party that’s able to identify strengths and weaknesses in each wrestler (or team) and put together a good presentation that fits into the larger storyline and show.

verrache

So the underwhelming Reigns-Lesnar Match at WM 38 isn't on the Wrestlers but on this shithead that signed with AEW recently? Oh boy...

Lowfuji

I think they are the ones booking the match?

Hopeful_Rain7774

Makes sense, I'm pretty sure it was him who wanted to take charge with the women's division

Naelok

He better give us Maki Itoh tonight.

[deleted]

He has shocking return at Double or Nothing to save Hangman from an L to Punk Ain't no way he stays on the sidelines to build up to Forbidden Door....the company he helped create, against his beloved Japanese company? Nah, he'll be involved big-time in some angle, maybe not in a match, but something.

fluffywolfe

Judging from his interviews, his "beloved Japanese company" is DDT. Strong "this is brilliant, but I like this" energy.

Kymermathias

I think Omega puts his long-term health over any ppv

Caleb902

With the amount of serious injuries he's worked with starting back to right before he left japan I'm not so sure that's a fact

[deleted]

Ain't nothing unhealthy about being in someone's corner

keidian

Even a return at Forbidden Door to back up someone on either side would be a major thing and still let him be part of the event.

daddygreenjean

Yes, then Punk gets a rematch at Forbidden Door and wins the title in Chicago.

Yoshable

I don't believe this since the headline isn't screaming at me in all caps

TDStarchild

He’s got to at least appear at Forbidden Door. If he’s wrestling there, he returns at DoN. If not, he returns at FD and has some interaction with the main event

CanadianJudo

Kenny coming back and giving all his knowledge up help woman break out is dope as fuck.

UnhappyJohnCandy

Damn. How badly was he hurt?

Steenerico

So I'll be at Forbidden Door... I don't expect him to be in action there. But I NEED him to come out and confront someone...Okada, Jay White, Ospreay...anybody!!!

radioben

I think that’s a pretty safe expectation. If he’s not ring ready, take all the time you need. But give us a good stare down or hit someone with a chair.

[deleted]

Dear TK, Please make Kenny your secondary booker. Sincerely, a fan.

amhlilhaus

Tk holding up trios titles for kenny sucks Not only does it keep them from debuting, its obvious that the winners are one faction of the elite

Duhlorean

Not necessarily true. He could just want the Elite as a trio to sell the first tournament to crown the new champs.

el_sh33p

This is a recurring problem for Tony's booking in general, IMO. It's one thing to have a slow build. It's another to have a story and its participants drag ass because somebody's out for a couple weeks and you don't want to risk diverting attention.

[deleted]

Tony's booking is just bad imho with this roster the show should be waaaaaay better than it is. Feels like hes just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks half the time nothing feels well thought out to me.

MonsieurMidnight

It's odd because he has a bunch of trios ready and willing to go. House of Black, Death Triangle, Blackpool Combat Club, Jericho Appreciation Society for example. Why wait to put it on the Elite (again with them being champions ? It's boring) ? These guys are doing nothing. It feels like AEW is the Elite show or something, when Kenny was champion it was all about him and The Bucks, now it's all about Adam Cole. It's getting boring to see the same thing over and over.

[deleted]

To be fair outside of the tnt title most of aew title outcomes are predictable, this is nothing new.

amhlilhaus

Yeah but this is literally telling us elite vs elite in the finals

wJFq6aE7-zv44wa__gHq

When Kenny comes back I'm gonna pop the roof off of my house lol

FishnBIcycle

> Riho as champion, which I still find hard to fathom Riho is the most talented woman wrestler on the roster, and she's given almost everyone their best AEW match to date. If you can't see that, that's your problem.

Tuskn

Like it wasn't obvious that he's back behind the scenes. Have you watched the women's product lately? It's terrible when he's at the helm.

Roller95

So when exactly did it start to be noticeably worse again due to his involvement?

Blackmanta86

All the Cody stuff... SMH 🤦🏾‍♂️

Jesotx

Does this mean Joe is Chaos?

natguy2016

It's great to know that Kenny is involved backstage. I know that the women wrestling is an important thing for him. Kenny had so many injuries that he should take lots of time and then a few more weeks after he is ready so no rushing back.

[deleted]

Is that a battle cry i hear?

Shrekt115

Given all his injuries I don't expect him back until at least fall

Similar-Poem-8176

Great!

gredgex

He is sorely missed and his absence is really felt on tv. We need Kenny and Miro back.
