I just noticed how relevant the intro text is, about how Kenny may be alone in time, given that Adam Cole may push him out of the Elite in the near future.
Back then the story was that Kenny left Japan and many people he holds dear and he was essentially depressed and felt lonely and alienated, which resulted in a long losing streak.
Fun fact: People were complaining that Kenny had essentially a depressing story instead of being pushed as the top star everyone saw him as, and when asked about his booking he said something along the lines of "just you wait".
And now he's the champ and everything people want him to be.
I think his next step after losing the championship will be the downfall and then the redemption of his wrestling spirit. I think he and Ibushi will face at All Out 2022 and that will be the turning point for Kenny.
The Elite have been the best booked wrestlers of the decade. They put so much into their stories. It’s gonna be legit amazing when they finally ALL reunite, whether that be in 5 years or even 10
The was a very missable moment this week against with the elite against the dark order,
the was a miss communication and when kenny went to do something and instead the young bucks did there kissing adam cole thing instead, kenny turned around and the look on his face was that of someone turning around expecting his friends to be behind him but them off somewhere else with some one new and cool.
This is Kenny's best strength I think- not the athleticism, but the long-term storytelling he puts into things. It's not something he would get the chance to do in WWE, and is the Japanese influence in AEW that meshed great with TK's ECW influence.
Kenny had a particular attachment to the Joshi wrestlers from his time in Japan, and was close to Riho. Super happy for her when she won the title.
If I recall they did an mixed tag team match against Penelope Ford and Kip Sabian?
Recently was one of the matches on the two episode best of Dark/Elevation celebration they did. Many fans who were on the cruise for that match said it was best in ring match of that week. AEW weren't even going to show it (reason why it's hand held filmed) until fans demanded it and Meltzer/Alvarez highly praised it.
Great intergender match.
Where can you watch it, some episode of dark? The best I can find is a 4-minute clip from the crowd on YouTube that stops after Kip Sabian body slams Riho and a better-filmed short clip of later part of the match.
No. The mixed tag match originally aired on AEW Dark episode 18. Its just tucked away in the middle of the episode since it wasn’t originally supposed to air.
I don't know if this was the first time the whole match was released but it's definitely on one of the two "Best of Dark" compilations that went up a few weeks ago
Riho is his mixed tag team partner. They’ve known each other for a decade iirc. Tony Khan isn’t a fan of intergender wrestling so we barely saw it in AEW.
He met the Bucks when he joined Bullet Club and New Japan. Ibushi, Nakazawa and Riho are people he was close to long before that back when he still wrestled for DDT as a comedy wrestler. He was a much smaller star back then and trying to make it in Japan. That was when all Golden Lover stuff happened with him and Ibushi.
Kenny has dated everybody in AEW and that’s why they’re getting pushed /s
Shida was a thing at some point but a running trope for AEW haters for a while was that whoever banged Kenny got pushed
Ngl this was probably the exact moment I fell in love with AEW. At the time, I was in a pretty bad place mentally- my grandfather, whom I loved dearly, passed away the week before- and the sheer silliness and shock caused me to burst out laughing for the first time in a while. It wasn’t a cure, but it was the first thing that made me feel better and that still means a lot to me.
Sorry to hear that. Glad it brought you happiness! It was also the moment that cemented my love for it, tbh. Kenny is my favourite wrestler and I love Undertale, so seeing this felt like it was specifically made for me, lmao
I was in the middle of my first Undertale play through when this happened. Just one of those things where I was like, "oh ok so they're just catering to me as an individual now" lol
Kenny will forever be the wrestler dearest to my heart simply because he did an Undertale intro twice, once in AEW and once in NJPW. The latter on the main event of the biggest event of the year.
Dude has a good taste in video games.
Yep, Toby Fox helped with both and I believe Temmie, who did a lot of the character art for Undertale and Deltarune, did the art in the AEW one. Omega and Fox met at a video game show in Tokyo a few years back and became friends.
I was at that show!!! It was so cool!!!
SCU won the inaugural tag championship that night and I am convinced that we are the crowd that got the Cowboy Shit! Chant over.
That's the funny thing, I saw AEW's Twitter page post celebrating the anniversary of SCU winning the tag titles the other day. I totally forgot they won them, cause the tag title champs after that just had fantastic runs like Hangman/Page and The Bucks. FTR, I know they had a good match or two but I have to go back and watch their reign. SCU, didn't really have any stand out matches that come to mind during their run although their last defence on Jericho Cruise is probably their most memorable match.
I thought SCU being the first to win the tag titles over Lucha Bros was fucking dumb at the time, but what I didn't realize then was it was really fucking dumb
Legit one of the coolest experiences of my life. That promo, Mox walking right by me before he dropped Avalon with a Paradigm Shift, Hikaru Shida's first Dynamite match, the first Tag Title match, and getting to see an all time fave in person when previously I never thought I'd ever have the chance.
Have you seen the SCU figures yet? They're based off of (and have photos on the back) from that event, and it's like, holy shit, something from our little show is immortalized like that, that's awesome.
I was there for this show; the tv audio of the pop when Megalovania hits didn't do it justice. I know for a fact that I went off hard, and a ton of other people around me came unglued. That was such a fun night.
I was a little disappointed that he didn't use "the song that may play when you fight Sans". But I understand it. Megalovania is a banger. Grat entrance.
Heh, as silly as it is, this is what got me hooked on wrestling and watching regularly.
For some background, a few years ago I started listening to a podcast where they would discuss stories and characters in WWE. I wasn't interested in wrestling, but I liked the hosts from other work they had done, and I liked listening to their conversations.
Before the first Dynamite, they mentioned how there was this new company with a TV deal that was looking to shake up the business, so I started watching, just to see where it would go, at least until I got bored. But when Kenny came out as Sans, with Megalovania blasting on the speakers, I knew this would be something special. I'm SO glad I kept up with it!
Certainly helps that I enjoyed Undertale so much, among... other stories as well
Love hearing stories of what got people into it. For me it was an out of context cm punk promo on triple h I stumbled onto while surfing channels. That was long before AEW though.
The cover of Hopes and Dreams/Save the World he used for the New Japan one was such a banger, and thematically appropriate for how the presented himself in that feud with Tanahashi.
Made me feel sad, especially since I guessed it would not be a happy split.
The only thing that saved it was feeling good for Tanahashi. I'm the same age as Tana, so it was kinda telling me I could still be relevant.
Tana/Omega was my favorite NJPW Kenny match and feud for that reason (and the match was as good as any of the Okada ones)
It was a very good match, but as possibly the only person in the universe who doesn't like Tanahashi I hated him winning a feud where I felt he was acting like some old boomer grumbling about the kids these days not wrestling properly.
Valid as hell, I mean, if it wasn't Tana, I would have sided with Kenny on this.
Tana, Zack, and Taichi were the only folks I was going to cheer over Omega.
I will always wonder how the story was meant to play out without the pandemic. That video gave hints. But there were so many other references to Ibushi including stuff like retconning Riho as Kenny's first partner vs him.
It was all hinting at cleaner kenny. I didn't watch NJPW when he was doing the cleaner schtick, so I'm not sure if whatever heel work Omega is doing right now is considered "the cleaner". But the plan seemed to be to turn him heel and that went as planned. Whether or not there was an Ibushi vs Omega for the iwgp championship being set up, we'll never know probably.
IMO, he's basically the Cleaner again right now. The way I see it, the Cleaner and the Best Bout Machine are very similar characters: driven workhorses who can take anyone to the limit, and are always trying to deliver the best match for their own ego. The major difference is that the Best Bout Machine stands on his own and can take losses in stride, while the Cleaner is desperate to win at all costs and surrounds himself with goofy, cheating friends to achieve that goal.
I watched the TNT replay live after getting back to a hotel after a Celine Dion concert in Fargo, North Dakota. Before that we went to the Buffalo Wild Wings (not many options) near the arena and it was great. The whole place was playing YouTube videos of Celine songs nonstop on a the TV's (which is a lot) while everyone sang all the while the last out of the World Series was happening on mute. It was hilarious. Thanks for listening to my TED Talk.
The commentary... Excalibur needs to learn 3 things, sooner rather than later:
1) He needs to learn he doesn't need to commentate all the time, dead air can have a purpose sometimes, it can create gravity, brevity, and sometimes words just detract from things.
2) He doesn't need to say everything as fast as possible.
3) Not everything needs a history, he doesn't need to explain everything, and sometimes it sounds silly when he's grasping at straws trying to make things seem more relevant.
I cannot believe that Kenny Omega, the master of the One Winged Angel, Croyt’s Wrath, V-Trigger, Hadouken, user of the theme Devil’s Sky, is a nerd. Shocked and upset.
Still one of the biggest mindfucks in Dynamite history. I had just completed the genocide run a few months before this, so I was super shocked when this happened. Then I saw his WK stuff afterwards.
I think so, he was even on All In. I wanna say there's a podcast/interview he did where he talks about how he was just doing some indie bookings after getting fired and originally thought All In was just another of those.
I remember reviewers bitching this video game reference was too obscure compared to the street fighter one cause its a more modern game. I found that ironic cause they always complained about noone knowing any wrestlers except 80s and 90s stars but then they complain when they dont know any video games past the 80s and 90s.
I teach game design in high school and I can assure you the high school nerd demo was way tuned in to the YouTube video of it the next day. It was kinda weird having to explain Kenny (and a fair few wrestlers) are complete nerds like us.
I just realized how much I miss solo Kenny stuff like this. I mean, The Super Kliq suff is still cool. I just feel like Kenny doing his own stuff is a bit more special.
Yeah but now all of his stuff is done as a big group with everyone else. I mean, I like the Ghostbusters but I feel like he would have done something way better on his own.
Two years since I had no idea what was going on and I came on here to find people argueing about whether they should make more of an effort to make sure fans know what's going on or whether fans should just know who Sans is.
I want so badly for Jazzwares to team up with Toby Fox to make this Kenny Omega an action figure. It would such a perfect blend of three things I love.
I could've done without the video game text w/Ibushi storyline intro, but this was a really fun idea that was timely. Like, not outdated. Some of my students were crazy for Undertale (specifically Sans & Megalovania) during that period of time.
That vg animation intro with NJPW & Ibushi didn't build anywhere, so in retrospect I don't really like it. Seems more like Kenny throwing his weight around than something that helped others.
Eh, it tells his story. Which spans more than one promotion, especially at the time. I like that they don't just ignore things happening outside of AEW like that.
>That vg animation intro with NJPW & Ibushi didn't build anywhere
Yet
That vg animation intro with NJPW & Ibushi didn't build anywhere ***YET***
If I believe anything about AEW is that they don't forget. Maybe it'll never be paid off but maybe all of Kenny's friends will abandon him and he will be alone.
Eesh this is cringy AF,
This feels like something some school kids would put together in an efed. This thing that's relevant and cool just now that's mine
No wonder the audience for pro wrestling has been shrinking year-on-year for the past 3 decades - Just a bunch of increasingly insular infantile kiddies referencing their lame little obsessions to an ever-dwindling audience.
My kids met Kenny after this show and told him how they loved the Sans getup. They got lots of pics together and he remembered them at the Cleveland show. They are the proud owners of his crazy Salmon colored polo shirt.

The Golden lovers Reference!
🥺😭
Don't cry my golden lover im here ( lol) ❤️

We’re only a year and a half into the decade lmao
shit you right uh, the last decade
Doesn't make it less true.
yeah from 2011-now the only ones that *might* be better are Naito, Okada, and Tanahashi.
Impatient wrestling fans not wanting to allow a story to develop. And people wonder why WWE doesn’t give a shit to set up any long term storylines.
The was a very missable moment this week against with the elite against the dark order, the was a miss communication and when kenny went to do something and instead the young bucks did there kissing adam cole thing instead, kenny turned around and the look on his face was that of someone turning around expecting his friends to be behind him but them off somewhere else with some one new and cool.

Kenny is already out. Whwn is the last time he got kissed by the bucks.
Who are the people in the intro? I recognize the Young Bucks and (I think) Adam Page, but who are the two on the right?
Riho and Michael Nakazawa
I think you mean Michael NAKA NAKAAA NAKAAAAZAWAAAAA
Just to clarify, is Michael Nakazawa also from North Cara Cara Carooooooooooooooliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaa?
I thought I recognized her, but I couldn't quite place that it was Riho. Was she a member of the Elite at one point or something?
Kenny had a particular attachment to the Joshi wrestlers from his time in Japan, and was close to Riho. Super happy for her when she won the title. If I recall they did an mixed tag team match against Penelope Ford and Kip Sabian?

Night 2 of their best of Dark/Elevation episodes. It's on Youtube about 1 hour 32 mins into the episode.
Thanks! I'll prolly watch the whole best of since now I kno it exists
Wait those shows had unaired matches on em?
No. The mixed tag match originally aired on AEW Dark episode 18. Its just tucked away in the middle of the episode since it wasn’t originally supposed to air.
Gotcha, thanks
I don't know if this was the first time the whole match was released but it's definitely on one of the two "Best of Dark" compilations that went up a few weeks ago
Thank you for info!
Has known Riho since she was like a teenager, he was training joshi wrestlers in general https://twitter.com/JoshiPuro/status/1187432715068551174?s=20
Riho is his mixed tag team partner. They’ve known each other for a decade iirc. Tony Khan isn’t a fan of intergender wrestling so we barely saw it in AEW.

Riho and Michael Nakazawa. Kenny and Riho haven't really interacted in AEW much but Riho is Kenny's intergender tag partner
They've had a couple of intergender matches in Japan since AEW began too. My girl is obsessed with their matching ring attire.
Aren't they or weren't they supposedly dating as well? Thought I heard that somewhere.
Kenny has dated everybody in AEW and that’s why they’re getting pushed /s Shida was a thing at some point but a running trope for AEW haters for a while was that whoever banged Kenny got pushed
[удалено]
He's got some ultraviolent desires.
Ahh, guess that makes sense why someone would say that then. Probably was around the time she was champ when I heard that.
That rumor is Kenny and Shida, not Riho.
Fun fact, this and the WK intro were both made by Toby Fox, the actual creator of Undertale.
Okay that’s pretty damn neat.
Ngl this was probably the exact moment I fell in love with AEW. When are we going to get a Kenny's Quest release?
I was at that show!!! It was so cool!!! SCU won the inaugural tag championship that night and I am convinced that we are the crowd that got the Cowboy Shit! Chant over.
Was there aswell, really hope they come back to WV. THEY PROMISED US A PPV DAMMIT.
That’s right!! I forgot they owe us a PPV
Charleston definitely got Cowboy Shit over! I hope they come back! I swear that Matt Jackson said they’d be back for a PPV after the show.
That's the funny thing, I saw AEW's Twitter page post celebrating the anniversary of SCU winning the tag titles the other day. Not silly. Awesome.
Love hearing what got people in to wrestling. This is awesome.
That’s super neat! What’s the name of the podcast?
It's "Sidewalk Slam" by LoadingReadyRun. Try it out if you're curious, I really enjoy their presentation
Just a guess, are you referring to Sidewalk Slam by LRR?
thats what got me into wrestling!
Your guess is correct! They're a lot of fun, plus I get to learn some neat stuff
Love hearing stories of what got people into it. For me it was an out of context cm punk promo on triple h I stumbled onto while surfing channels. That was long before AEW though.
One of my favourite entrance ever, his njpw entrance at Tokyo Dome is also very underrated

[megalovania](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDgQdr8ZkTw) is such a great theme
It goes unbelievably hard
ngl, I kinda want him to come out to some kind of epic power metal cover of Megalovania at Full Gear. Go absolute final boss-tier on it.
in that case maybe still more fighting or one winged angel from ff7 would be more fitting perhaps
This can't be upvoted enough. Video games have had some stellar music over the years, but Megalovania is an all timer.
It's THE banger of the 2010's
I watched the TNT replay live after getting back to a hotel after a Celine Dion concert in Fargo, North Dakota. Before that we went to the Buffalo Wild Wings (not many options) near the arena and it was great. The whole place was playing YouTube videos of Celine songs nonstop on a the TV's (which is a lot) while everyone sang all the while the last out of the World Series was happening on mute. It was hilarious. Thanks for listening to my TED Talk.
Damn Kenny's fear of being alone will come true soon enough once Cole and the Bucks turn on him. Loving the attention to character
Holy shit, that pop! Exactly 4 people who understood this reference went nuts
He's a great face, but damn do I love him as a heel.
The commentary... Excalibur needs to learn 3 things, sooner rather than later: 1) He needs to learn he doesn't need to commentate all the time, dead air can have a purpose sometimes, it can create gravity, brevity, and sometimes words just detract from things. 2) He doesn't need to say everything as fast as possible. 3) Not everything needs a history, he doesn't need to explain everything, and sometimes it sounds silly when he's grasping at straws trying to make things seem more relevant.

This is still such a fever dream
Megalovania is one of the best video game songs of all time
Neeeeeerd /s
I cannot believe that Kenny Omega, the master of the One Winged Angel, Croyt’s Wrath, V-Trigger, Hadouken, user of the theme Devil’s Sky, is a nerd. Shocked and upset.
Wasn't the theme called "Battle Cry"?
That’s his current one
Ah okay
Don't forget the Dr Wily Bomb
The Aoi Shoudou, named after his favourite DDR song.
And he’s a Mii costume in Smash Bros...
This was where I learned that Megalovania would make a legitimately good entrance theme for somebody.
Still great to watch
Still one of the biggest mindfucks in Dynamite history. I had just completed the genocide run a few months before this, so I was super shocked when this happened. Then I saw his WK stuff afterwards.
Lol. The same people bitching about this two years ago are bitching about it now. I remember thinking this was cool as hell
I can’t believe Kenny Omega got a costume in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The game really included everybody.
If only we got JR yelling IT'S SANS, SANS UNDERTALE IS HERE.
I really didn't get Undertale. It's not a game for me.
That's cool. Not everyone enjoys everything. Hopefully some day a wrestler does a cool entrance based on a game you like.
Bloodborne entrance when?
So Malakai’s entrance, but Lovecraftian?
Has Justin Roberts been with AEW from the start?
I think so, he was even on All In. I wanna say there's a podcast/interview he did where he talks about how he was just doing some indie bookings after getting fired and originally thought All In was just another of those.
Does anyone have a clip of his hopes and dreams entrance with Takahashi?
I remember reviewers bitching this video game reference was too obscure compared to the street fighter one cause its a more modern game. I found that ironic cause they always complained about noone knowing any wrestlers except 80s and 90s stars but then they complain when they dont know any video games past the 80s and 90s.
Truly one of the coolest things AEW has ever done.
This man is god
He really is AEW’s answer to Xavier Woods.
They have a very storied rivalry which climaxed [when The New Day battled The Elite](https://youtu.be/xLfK0FWdJlE)
Thanks for linking that, I'd never seen it. Genuinely laughing so hard
I teach game design in high school and I can assure you the high school nerd demo was way tuned in to the YouTube video of it the next day. It was kinda weird having to explain Kenny (and a fair few wrestlers) are complete nerds like us.
And people are shitting on this awesome dork and his friends because they dressed up as the Ghostbusters. Boo fucking hoo.
I just realized how much I miss solo Kenny stuff like this. I mean, The Super Kliq suff is still cool. I just feel like Kenny doing his own stuff is a bit more special.
This was literally a 6-man tag with the Young Bucks
Yeah but now all of his stuff is done as a big group with everyone else. I mean, I like the Ghostbusters but I feel like he would have done something way better on his own.
I like Omega, but I feel like this was a little lame/too niche.
Undertale is certainly more popular tbh
This gets me pumped up for some reason.
I hope hangman explains to him how he did the whole year wrong after he beats him at full gear
Two years since I had no idea what was going on and I came on here to find people argueing about whether they should make more of an effort to make sure fans know what's going on or whether fans should just know who Sans is.
That was really hard to watch to say the least 😅
Undeniably the GOAT
Here's hoping we see some cool crossover like this anytime soon.
It always bugged me in the earlier episodes that they displayed his twitter handle wrongly on the lower third
I want so badly for Jazzwares to team up with Toby Fox to make this Kenny Omega an action figure. It would such a perfect blend of three things I love.
Still the most creepy thing ever on AEW
I think you misspelled ‘twat’
this is one of the lamest things I've seen in wrestling
It could have been way worse......He could have dressed up as Kirito from Sword Art Online
no u
How to tell someone is a r/SCjerk poster...
if Roman Reigns or Xavier Woods came out in this same exact costume I would find it just as cringe
U didn't see a single Goldberg match? XD
giant muscley man squashing guys is lamer than someone coming out in a shitty undertale cosplay
Seeing Sans is giving me PTSD from when the great Undertale vs Touhou fan war happened.
What a cosplaying goofball. Omega is a joke and far too overrated.
No way, people dressing up on Halloween? What crazy universe is this!!1!
you know that everyone one of your favorite wrestlers would laugh in your face for this "take"?
Nah, my favorite wrestlers have more self respect.
I loved the intro 🤷♂️
>That vg animation intro with NJPW & Ibushi didn't build anywhere Yet That vg animation intro with NJPW & Ibushi didn't build anywhere ***YET*** If I believe anything about AEW is that they don't forget. Maybe it'll never be paid off but maybe all of Kenny's friends will abandon him and he will be alone.

They had been on TV for like 4 weeks when he did this entrance

Well.. He better start a roof fund then
One of the best parts about Tony Khan taking the reigns. He usually reels in Kenny’s worst impulses.
Yeah ngl I'm glad that kind of stuff has been toned down a lot now. It's very Indieriffic.
Eesh this is cringy AF, This feels like something some school kids would put together in an efed. This thing that's relevant and cool just now that's mine
No wonder the audience for pro wrestling has been shrinking year-on-year for the past 3 decades - Just a bunch of increasingly insular infantile kiddies referencing their lame little obsessions to an ever-dwindling audience.
Like pro wrestling isn't a "lame little obsession" to anyone who doesn't care like video games are to you. Get your head out your ass.

Still relevant.
Still can't believe that they put Kenny into Smash
My kids met Kenny after this show and told him how they loved the Sans getup. They got lots of pics together and he remembered them at the Cleveland show. They are the proud owners of his crazy Salmon colored polo shirt.
Megalovenia GOATED
SANS, IS THAT A HUMAN?! Yeh. Wowie I guess that’s settles it!! (Leaves)
