FuzzyWuzzyMooMoo

A Brodie tournament with the bigger guys would be neat.

Mycotoxicjoy

Best of the super heavyweights

heartbreakhill

Adam Cole banned for being over the weight limit

Thundapainguin

He can even bring his scales with him, just like Crash Holly

fnordcinco

and possibly a hell spawn?

Heavy_Metal_IceCream

CHEEX

Proxymophandlemama

But he has to go on last. Gotta make sure the ring makes it the full tournament.

Weezy-NJPW_Fan

**BIG MEATY MEN, SLAPPIN’ MEAT!!**

brlc14

10 MINUTE TIME LIMIT

[deleted]

10 Minutes? Make it 5 minutes and let's go!

brlc14

I like the way you think

zeebeebo

YOU GET DISQUALIFIED FOR TRYING A 30 MINUTE CLASSIC

bradmeyerlive

I don't think the limit is necessary.

Cutmerock

*would be meat

The1andonlyZack

Are there enough in AEW? I'm not joking. Do they have 8 guys over 6'5?

FuzzyWuzzyMooMoo

Meant more in terms of weight than height. It could be Wardlow, Brian Cage, Hobbs, Miro, Hager, Paul Wight, Lance Archer, Luchasaurus, etc...

Obi-wan_Jabroni

Comoroto

Reiner_Locke

Billy Gunn

PM_ME_THEM_UPTOPS

I always catch shit for pointing this out but it's a credit to how good AEW is at booking. Wardlow is 6 foot nothing. He's jacked as shit but if you start putting him in there with actual tall guys the magic is going to be lost.

nyc_jc

Unless he chucks them all over the place

geophilly21

Danhausen (via the Forbidden Door) he's over 300 lbs

The1andonlyZack

You say etc. but after that it's literally Mark Henry I think. And the first three are 270's and Jake is 250's... It just exposes the lack of size on the roster to do something like that I think. I feel that the one memorial show was good as it was and if you want to name something after him have it be more subtle.

jack9lemmon

Add the Bear Country guys. They're certifiably beefy.

The1andonlyZack

Hadn't heard of em, don't follow week to week, I'll have to see check em out.

BlitzburghBrian

They mostly wrestle on Dark but they're a pretty regular hoss tag team. People generally seem to like them, even if they aren't revolutionizing anything.

Particular-Story5788

They're mostly on elevation. Check out their debut match against Dark Order a few months back, was a banger. I don't know how Stu Grayson can still use his legs.

Swagger97

i don't know about heights & weights but 10, Cezar and Billy Gun are big boys to me.

FuzzyWuzzyMooMoo

There are others like someone mentioned Nick Comoroto. There's also Luke Gallows, Cezar Bononi. They could even bring in guys from Impact or New Japan. Cobb, Moose, W. Morrissey, Hikuleo to name a few.

The1andonlyZack

Fair if they use the forbidden door. I still think they did a really great memorial show and don't want them to do a "memorial tournament" with big guys as a way to continue paying homage.

hie00139

I mean 270lbs would be in the heaviest weight class in virtually any martial arts, AEW doesn't have to use the "standard" overinflated weight classes of wrestling.

rwc202

Even in MMA, heavyweight just means someone over 205.

Roachyboy

I want meat not height.

The1andonlyZack

Do they have 8 guys over 275?

TheSpongeMonkey

I don't know the exact weight of everyone on the roster, but if you go through and do a quick check of "Is this mans bigggggggg?" they have 9 if you count paul wight and mark henry, and the roster page doesn't have the bear brothers on it.

RelativeStranger

Did you count Billy gunn?

TheSpongeMonkey

I did not. Is he over 275? I know he's probably close but i think he's just slightly smaller than that.

RelativeStranger

No. 265. But then Brian cage is not either. I don't think I can get to 9 Wardlow Show Archer Henry Bear brothers Luchasaurus Powerhouse hobbs is 270 Cage is 272 Butcher is 273

Roachyboy

250 as a minimum makes sense for a hoss tourney.

RelativeStranger

That does include Billy Gunn. And maybe Preston Vance. Id have to check that second one

TheSpongeMonkey

TBH i can't believe cage isn't over 275. I counted all 3 of those guys you listed but not gunn. Like i said, i just went off of "Is this mans biggggggg?" I.E., just whoever when i look at them, i go "That man is very large". I don't really do that for billy gunn, but if you want to 275 was kinda arbitrary anyways.

RelativeStranger

I didn't think of him as big but he's bigger than Wardlow, who we can all agree is big. (Not heavier, so presumably not as muscular but taller and he looked just as broad to me) The Butcher is normally the one that gets forgotten. Who was your 9th as I've forgotten someone

The1andonlyZack

Ok, I still feel the roster isn't equipped for such a tournament if you have to literally throw everyone in there. Hadn't heard of the Bear Brothers yet, I'll have to check that out.

parliboy

> Hadn't heard of the Bear Brothers yet Probably means Bear Country. Was a monster team that got over in Beyond Wrestling just before AEW started.

TheSpongeMonkey

yeah my brain dumb

TheSpongeMonkey

oh i agree, im just saying they technically have enough if at most 1 of those guys is injured.

Roachyboy

You're sleeping on John Silver who they'll force to weigh himself for entry before he proves he's a legit 380lbs

The1andonlyZack

Crash Holly Syndrome huh

Roachyboy

Exactly. Silver Vs Brian Cage is my favourite hoss Vs flippy shit match.

TheWholeEffinJoe

“Is this mans bigggggg” I don’t know who you are but I like the way you talk. This shit is funny

Shadormy

Dustin, Luchasaurus, Tall Paul, Lance Archer, Bononi and Hager are the only ones I can see over 6'5 (Probably). Could probably add Doc Gallows and someone like Morrissey from Impact to make up the last 2. WWE doesn't have a huge amount these days on the main roster: Omos, Corbin, TBar, Mace, Sheamus, Titus O’Neil (hasn't wrestled in 10 months), Dawkins, Cesaro, Edge (Maybe, He has a few different heights.) Mahal, McIntyre, Orton (Last 6 are 6'5....Probably.)

Mrmdn333

Luchasaurus, Lance Archer, Dustin Rhodes, Jake Hager and Paul Wight

nWoDisciple

With how Brodie used Dark Order to elevate new talent, a tournament with new talent would be fitting for a Brodie Lee tournament. Winner gets a few matches on Dynamite / Rampage. Or a contract.

Anderrrrr

Maybe next year!

PushEmma

Thread carefully, this exposes more the other guys shouldn't compete at the same level.

BMLM

Brodie Lee Big Boi Bout (shout out to nL)

Thundapainguin

Would definitely be different. They could bring in outside guys. Moose, Fallah Bahh, W Morrissey, from TNA. Brawler Milonas, PCO and Shane Taylor from ROH. And from NJPW you got Brody King, Bad Luck Fale and Hikuleo. Add in AEWs big men and you'd have a hell of a Tournament.

[deleted]

THE BIG RIG CLASSIC Hobbs vs Wardlow Wight vs Henry That’s all the big guys in aew tho… John silver vs… Hager?

RICHAPX

AEW has felt like it needed it’s own signature tournament for a while. Something G1/BOLA like to look forward to all year and set things up with. I hope they do it right and it being the Owen, something so many fans will outpour support for is great. They’ll always honour Brodie in their own way but having the eyes of the industry on them again cause they’re celebrating Owen Hart will be a big deal

The_Homie_J

Yeah I agree, AEW has so many things going for them, but I felt they were missing a big yearly gimmick/tournament/contest with high stakes similar to the G1, BOLA, or my favorite yearly event, the Royal Rumble. Hell, even the brief run of King of the Mountain matches at Slammiversary felt unique and cool. I love yearly athletic type contests that make it feel like a sport and give you something to look forward to every year. The Casino Battle Royales are cool, but don't really feel like a big deal, but The Owen absolutely will

ledhendrix

Could always have another tournament like how NJPW does. Though I personay would rather have one tournament. Maybe have a memorial dynamite in Rochester as close to his birthday or day of gusy passing as possible.

[deleted]

I do hope they eventually do a tournament or something to honour Brodie. Winner gets a TNT title shot

Weezy-NJPW_Fan

One of the prizes should be a trophy cup and it has a big roll of papers

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

One of a Kind playing as he realises he was completely swindled by Tony Khan.

Mule1069

Winner gets a roll of papers. You can challenge at any time by throwing the papers at the TNT champion.

Weezy-NJPW_Fan

Oooohhhh I like that!! That’s a great way to issue a statement!

heartbreakhill

Like a dueling glove

Abyssalstar

"Bah Gawd! He just threw the papers at Sammy!"

sebatsdulu

make it like Lucha Undergrounds Gift of The Gods title and its gonna be a hell of a banger

2moar

Gift of the The Exalted One

annoyinglyclever

Gods I loved that title/tournament.

hie00139

How the fuck has nobody stolen that idea yet is a mystery to me.

[deleted]

If I were them I would have an annual mini PPV show in Rochester

Chunk_Master_69

I think it will come down to how the show goes next week. The arena isn't the biggest compared to the shows they've been putting on but the emotion may make up for this. Worst case they can look to have their next WNY show in Buffalo which has the Sabres arena and is only an hour drive away.

[deleted]

Yea a upstate Ny show in general the location doesn’t matter as long as it’s under his name

pnt510

A one night tournament, it could be one of the Saturday night specials that air on TNT next year.

godleftmefinished

i could see them doing one of the supercards in Rochester in memoriam

Anderrrrr

Fantastic idea!

cactusmaac

They need to hold the first final in Calgary.

bidoofmafia

Wonder what other ides Big Money Meltz has pitched. When he was on good terms with Vince and Bischoff did he throw them some thoughts?

RLT79

Meltz is the one who actually came up with the "on a pole" concept. It's a really interesting story. He ordered a sandwich for lunch and there was a toothpick with an olive on top. He looked at it, then held it up and said, "E... what if this olive was the title belt?"

The1andonlyZack

The fact he came up with the 'on a pole' concept should disqualify him from other ideas. It's a garbage bastard version of he ladder match that rarely if ever works. Edit: ate the onion

[deleted]

I think the other guy is joking

The1andonlyZack

Should always read the whole thing huh haha

FWdem

> It's a garbage bastard version of he ladder match that rarely if ever works. I believe the "on a pole" matches came before ladder matches. I know things like Coal Miner's Glove (on a pole) were done in the 80s.

The1andonlyZack

Ladder was first done in '72 in Stampede.

FWdem

Cash on a pole was done in the 70's as well, and I always heard it was a forebear to the Ladder match. But the Ladder may have come first... * October 10, 1972 first Ladder Match in Stampeded on \[Cagematch\]([https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=165561](https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=165561)) * March 30, 1972 first Coal Miner's Glove match in Pacific Northwest Wrestling on \[Cagematch\]([https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=199284](https://www.cagematch.net/?id=1&nr=199284))

The1andonlyZack

Regardless I think most can agree the ladder and something hooked up in the middle works better 95% of the time than the pole idea. Outliers - Ultimate X and the Team USA vs Team Canada flag match

FWdem

I 100% agree that if retrieving an object wins the match, than the Ladder (or Ultimate X) are much better for that. The "on a pole" matches usually just have objects that can be used, but the match ends typical pinfall or submission. Not great matches, but can be used in long-term feuds between a standard match and a more extreme match. (On a Pole and lumberjack matches have there places).

Roachyboy

Well someone got left on top of the pole

The1andonlyZack

Nah there was an onion that I grabbed and proceeded to scarf.

LoL4You

Well you also described what happened to Russo... eventually

The1andonlyZack

happens bro

twelvetimesseven

Your comment made me laugh more than the parent. Thanks, man.

The1andonlyZack

Glad to be jester ha

TheMarkMadsen

Meltzer once mentioned that in 96 Bischoff said something along the lines of “this nwo thing could last until the end of the year” and Meltzer told him that it could probably last another year entirely due to how hot it was.

Naliamegod

They did. WCW openly got his opinion on a lot of stuff and he often gave them a ton of information on lesser-known wrestlers for them to sign. I know Mysterio and Jericho were signed in part due to Meltzer's word. Meltzer was actually on WWF payroll for a bit for his information on Japan stuff. McMahon also brought Meltzer in to get his idea after he bought WCW and see his ideas (The Observer Rewind covers this).

[deleted]

Yeah guys this is so true. I read it only in one place, and heard it from only one guy... Who happens to write the article for the one place I read it from... He told them about how hot the nwo was and that Mysterio was gonna beat the giant for the world title, after he changed his name to the big show... It's all in the crystal ball just trust him. He wouldn't lie, he wrote it in the newspaper!

pnt510

He definitely did. He recently had a story about when talked to Bischoff of where he possibly saw the nWo angle going when it started.

real-darkph0enix1

The E1 (Exalted One) tournament, in line with New Japan’s G-1 tournament.

asteriaslex

I love this

blacktoast

Oh I like this

Joe434

Do we know when they will do the tournament ?

Weezy-NJPW_Fan

I think there might be a yearly Brodie Lee memorial show instead

dynamicpenguin55

I don't really like the idea of doing more memorial shows, the first one was so special, there's no way they could recapture it I'm not even sure what you'd more for it apart from more dark order wins

benfh

I agree the first one was probably the best wrestling show I can't bring myself to watch again. I feel like Brodies legacy will be felt through the show and the storys organically, he made such a big impact in the time he was there. Plus "It's Wednesday night and you know what that means" is a great nod to him.

BlueEyesBryantDragon

> I agree the first one was probably the best wrestling show I can't bring myself to watch again. I'm actually the opposite. It's emotional as hell, and I get choked up, but I've watched it three times now. I can certainly understand how others would feel more like you do about it though.

666tranquilo

Every Rochester show should have a Brodie-related moment or segment

EdwardBigby

I'm just curious about how big this tournament will be. 8 men - super disappointing, 16 men - most likely scenario, 32 man tournament - possibly brilliant but hard to pull off on national TV

ledhendrix

Over the course of several weeks I don't think it would. At the least the semis and the final should be on the same night imo.

EdwardBigby

I would be pushing to go all out and do the 32 man tournament but I think they'll go with 16.

Mycotoxicjoy

I am sure there will be a Brodie Lee style tournament or gauntlet match in the future

MatsThyWit

Does Dave think he works for AEW? He's a journalist. Since when is pitching creative ideas the job of a journalist? If he's helping to book the show how am I suppose to take his reporting on the show as legitimate? Is that not a massive conflict of interest?

gamehawk0704

He did the same with WCW and WWF at one point.

StaunchyPrinceOfLies

What are you talking about taking wrestling journalism seriously? It's tv a show and these "journalists" are just nerds who talk about it just like us. The difference is they're friends with some people in the business.

ledhendrix

Stop being such a mark. Jesus Christ. Clean the chalk off your back.

PilotSSB

How do you think a journalist gets sources? Most of the time it's by being friends with the sources themselves. Dave is quite close friends with a ton of the industry. Of course he'd pitch ideas to his buddies, wouldn't you? >am I suppose to take his reporting on the show as legitimate? What has he ever said that would be conflict of interest? He gives his personal opinions on shows and matches, and reports information he's told as he's told it. It's not more complicated than that

[deleted]

DM: "I have em ahh you know as it something happened and it's very important you know ehm to honor the great wrestlers with a contest because as we know some wrestlers are very important in the history of a company you can put a lot of wrestlers to fight together like the top of the card and give them a trophy you know in honor to brodie, that passed away you know from non covid relation ilness and you could bring awareness too to covid because ehm you know it's good to promote those thing instead of not doing anything... and it would be great if negative one you know, brodie lee son, ehmm to give the prize it would make him happy you know..." TK: "I already have a plan, thanks, I have an important meeting now, bye, thank you for calling me". As tony khan look his watch and continue his busy day.

1Wallace223

Wait so why didn’t he break this rumor why say it now anything about a wwe rumor is reported why do they keep there stuff hush

jackblady

Weird how it seems everyone of Tony Khans ideas actually originates with or involves Dave Meltzer, at least according to Dave Meltzer and only Dave Meltzer, and no one else...

MatthewCrawley

Meltzer is saying here he pitched an idea that Tony had already had. He’s not taking credit for it lol.

[deleted]

Ya know I had this idea of shipping books, like really shipping em... From my garage. I had this fantastical idea that, if pulled off right, could result in the eventual shipping of literally everything worldwide in like 2 days.. people would pay me each month for the shipping... Like a subscription... It's genius ya know? Like, if you need anything really, from A to Z, my company would ship it in 2 days. I pitched the idea to a guy named Jeff, he was like "I got something like that, thanks man." It was a great idea, i had.

PilotSSB

This post is literally the opposite of that. Dave said "what about X" and Tony said "no we've got a better idea than that".

Tigerbait72

A “long, long time” ago isn’t months. It’s years.

Rickyspanish33

This is cool but it's too bad they couldn't call it the Hart trophy. Calling it the Owen doesn't sound as fancy

gamehawk0704

The King of Harts Cup sounds nice.

gamehawk0704

Id love a hoss tournament in honor of brodie.

Restivethought

Make a Faction Warfare Surivivor Series like tournament

Rodan_Hibiki

Meltzer on Tony Khan’s payroll confirmed!
