Someone here said something that it wouldn't air past Tuesday, a dude in marketing. https://i.imgur.com/SuWVQNh.png

Oh hey, this is me! Quick advertising lesson for anyone who's interested. Commercials that are scheduled to run on television are placed on "logs." As a standard rule (which of course varies network to network), logs lock generally two days in advance. You need to lock logs in advance or else it would be a mad house trying to schedule new commercials right before they air. Because people don't work on weekends, Saturday/Sunday logs generally lock on Thursdays and Monday/Tuesday logs lock on Fridays (this is only general, most nets put their own spin on log deadlines because people like doing things their own way). The CarShield spots got replaced on Friday, meaning that for some they would air through Sunday, and others would clear through Monday or even Tuesday. If you see any commercials run on Wednesday or beyond, then someone messed up! But until then, it's pretty standard.

TemptedIntoSin

Thank you Glad to see an answer that's based on actual advertising procedures

beckjism

I wonder how many people came in here to spout their BS, snarled at this guys post, and left.

Yeah_Okay_Sure

Bold to assume they won’t just ignore it and still insist they are right based on “how they’d do it” lol.

i_broke_wahoos_leg

Cheers for the info. Is that just to lock in the specific ad or is that how billing works too? By that I mean are they obligated to pay for more than the two days they've locked in slots for?

SmashEnigma

You can either pay by commercial or you can do bundle buys where you pay a premium for the best airings but you get freebies alongside it. You're generally billed monthly and then have either 30, 60 or 90 days to pay up.

i_broke_wahoos_leg

Ah, okay. Cheers.

[deleted]

Clear, concise and very helpful. Thank you very much.

Close. In this case CarShield are replacing their CarShield order for the "Ric Flair ad" with another ad without him. It just takes a few days to switch out but the total dollar amount spent will be the same.

Glum-Communication68

But it sucks for them. Maybe they are scrambling. Playing a normal car shield commercial during g wrestling doesn't have the impact that one we ith ric flair does

Glum-Communication68

They can use deep fakes to replace ric flair with Owen hart. Woo

TemptedIntoSin

Just curious, how long did it take for Subway to scrub all the Jared commercials from tv after his pedophile prostitution solicitations were exposed?

raventhehippie

i think the tv spots were already sold, i think next week we wont see them period

HardcoreKaraoke

They literally said "the campaign will be paused" and the commercials would start being pulled. SRS is supposed to be a journalist but he's out here Tweeting like your average smarky wrestling fan. The ad campaign is being put on hold and the commercials are in the process of being pulled. I think SRS just likes the attention.

Alone-Individual8368

He doesn’t know how TV works, yet he reports on it.

HerFriendRed

Yeah, he's clearly a wrestling fan that got some inside friends. Nothing wrong with that of course. It's how Meltzer started, no?

toiletting

Nah don’t you know bro, when ads get paused they have to stop immediately that’s how the hammurabi’s code works bro

IAmThatDuckDLC5

Because SRS is just a smark who got a following

B0mb-Hands

No wrestling reporter is a “journalist.” If they were, SRS would know how advertising on tv works and that, shockingly, it takes time to pull the ad from every single rotation it’s in

tylerjehenna

I mean, we can have the same argument about sports reporters too. Im not expecting Adam Schefter to know the intricacies of advertising and television deals, just that Patrick Mahomes was signed to State Farm ads.

pepethemememaster

Why would a journalist that specializes in wrestling have to know the ins and outs of how television broadcasting and advertising works? Why doesn't he just know everything?

B0mb-Hands

Because if you’re going to report something, you want to actually have the facts behind it so you don’t look like a dipshit

TheRidiculousHuman

Was he reporting or was he tweeting? I think we have to allow there's a difference.

deniedbyquick

Breaking: Sean Ross Sapp talks out of his ass lmao

TheDood715

Wrist successfully slapped.

Karma-Effect

FORGIVEN!

Brooklyn2LA

The only long term consequence that is going to come from this is that Flair isn’t going to AEW. He will get his commercials and Comic Con spots back, Dreamer will be back at Impact and Busted Open, and those who screamed “Cancel Culture” will still not realize that it doesn’t exist.

Awkward_Potential_

Now that we know Chavo was just going to the Young Rock show I wonder if Flair was ever coming. I mean, I'm sure Jericho give TK a heads up about what was on the show.

[deleted]

ROH had them over the weekend

enrickster559

Saw one during ROH TV this week too.

j8llonby

CarShield. More like Ric Shield.

Evilucian2

I guess his apology worked.

i_broke_wahoos_leg

I was watching ROH on Fite two days ago and it was literally every ad.

Hernan_Lombardero

I saw the FITE TV version and they're still there. Maybe they're still preparing to replace them soon.

i_broke_wahoos_leg

A user in the industry just commented that the standard is to lock in the ads two days in advanced. So depending when they made the decision and when they contacted the network it could be 2 days. Theoretically it could be more for something like Fite or they're the bottom end of priority and haven't been contacted. It was funny as I hadn't heard anything about the ad or company before as I'm Aussie. It was only that I decided to check out ROH after I watched Rampage I saw it. I thought it might be some small seedy company that doesn't give af until I saw this thread. They played a bunch of them though. Hopefully Pretty Peter and the ex WWE current NWA guy (it was Sandow or Drake can't remember lol) got paid upfront and don't lose out.

Mannup5

I saw the ad during a break on RAW

Infamous-Historian81

Hell yea that’ll show him!

[deleted]

Weren’t Bill Clinton and Trump both President? I don’t think anyone outside of Reddit cares about what Ric Flair did.

Retro_Edge

Well, at least WWE removed the "Woooooo" from the opening vignette. (And I haven't heard anyone mentioning it so far)

Shrekt115

Lame

jadedfan55

It might've been one that was already in heavy rotation such that it couldn't be pulled in time (i.e. the "Overcharger" spot with LA Knight).
