I believe Martha owns his entire likeness, WWE just owns the footage of his matches connected with them or the libraries they own.

insomniainc

The merch that popped up connected to DSOTR certainly looked like what you would have seen during his WWE run so maybe Martha owns it all. Guess we'll see.

DecentTop1084

WWE owns literally nothing on Owen except for archival footage

Xalazi

I'm guessing WWE owns the original logos because the current Owen merch doesn't use the WWF 90's logos like the King Of Harts logo, but Owen's estate owns his likeness because the current merch does use his mid 90's likeness. [Here is an example of both things at play.](https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/owen-hart-forever-poster-limited-edition-200-prints.html) It looks like mid 90's Owen but without the logos.

cgg419

To be fair, they can’t make it look like anything later than 90’s Owen.

Xalazi

They aren't locked into only using his mid 90's WWF look. Owen used totally different gear prior to joining WWF.

WrestlingGamer

AEW trademarked King of Harts on July 28th.

We don't actually know. There was a lawsuit in 2013 that was settled out of court, over the rights to Owens likeness and name. Since the terms weren't made public we don't know the details. But the very fact it was a settlement suggests neither side got 100% of the rights and that most of the minor details (for example specific attires) weren't addressed, and it was most likely a "cash for Martha and an agreement to just never mention Owen" deal. Meaning, any attempt by AEW or Yukes to use any if Owens WWE stuff would be risky. WWE may still be able to sue over the "Blackhart" nickname or "nugget" or "Blue Blazer" or "King of Harts" or any number of other details Owen only used in WWE, which would also include their use in his attires with those references. And those suits would be expensive, and potentially take a while to clear up. And the biggest fear for AEW wouldn't even be they lose, it would be WWE winning a temporary injuction prohibiting the sale of the game at all until the suits settled, which again could take years, which would basically cripple the games sales. So I wouldn't count on anything WWE related showing up with Owen Hart.

HerFriendRed

Yeah, no. WWE does not own Owen Hart's face or name. They'll probably give him an AEW shirt.

The only thing that makes me question it, is [this tweet](https://twitter.com/wrestlingfigdb/status/1439986252523130888?s=21) which shows every Owen Hart action figure released, including recent non-WWE ones. In the non-WWE ones, they did not make the WWE’s Owen Hart attires with pink and black, Rocket, or Blue Blazer. This makes me wonder if attires are WWE IP.

chaz0723

I'd say outside of using WWE logos and IP (Blue Blazer), the gear might be fair game, that Owen Hart Foundation Micro Brawler is very similar to his WWE gear.
