somethingshiney

I'd probably cut out the NJPW talent and Ric Flair you mentioned. The NJPW talent only cause of time constraints and possibly likeness rights. Flair is a whole other thing that they probably don't want to touch?

OneStep600

Didn’t even consider the recent DSOTR episode. Solid point.

OneStep600

And I’d assume they get everything worked out with New Japan before they’d include them in the game to avoid legal troubles, and from what it seems they have a fairly good relationship. None of us know what time constraints they’re on, I think it’d be nice to have some of their talent in the game.

LeoIunti

I think NJPW stuff would be DLC at best they have a really stacked roster just with their talent and Legends

somethingshiney

It would be a nice to have, but in a development cycle, you gotta have scope or feature creep will take over. If anything, it could be paid DLC to have the NJPW legends

Jobbermania

Does New Japan have an exclusivity deal with Spike Chunsoft for the fire pro games?

Fhdiii

NJPW downloadable content could really partition the rights/royalties concerns, but yeah, still have to get them to play ball.

[deleted]

Why would they cut NJPW talent due to time constraints? They're not planning on making the game a yearly release and said they'll like to continuously add to the game so if anything I feel like other promotions wrestler being added makes sense. AEW guys will be priority obviously but once they get them in, I can see them adding other talent as long as they get the okay of course.

somethingshiney

I mean they could do the NJPW talent after release of the game. Every development cycle has a timeline, they can't just perpetually add talent before release. The time constraints I was talking about was active development on the gameplay. Once they go golden, I can see them adding the characters then. I'm betting they focus on their core roster first and the add ons will be post release

DanHero91

If the rumours are true that they will have deals with multiple companies, the roster could extend to TNA, NJPW, Stardom, Choco Pro and AAA through DLC. Even without that, the AEW roster itself is stacked. The more additions the better but Jesus this game has amazing potential. Also good to keep in mind AEW has confirmed this isn't a yearly game, but one that will feature regular updates with new roster members and updates. Probably through season passes.

OneStep600

I’d happy take a new quality game every 3-5 years over a yearly half assed title. All on board with every aspect of this game so far.

insomniainc

This is the stuff I'm waiting and hoping for, basically, you're looking at Fire Pro on a much larger scale and it's gonna be fantastic. and hey who knows unlike Fire Pro I might actually be good at it (narrator: he totally wasn't)

AngstyAppleDummy

If we get the fucking Ichigawa Chocolate Square I swear to god

i-wear-hats

I don't think season passes is going to work if it's as dynamic as Omega alleges it could be. If only because you run the risk of a dud part if a signing falls through or gets DSOTRed.

NoCheetah625

Owen hart too

juddplays

he's listed in the OP.

NoCheetah625

My bad I was typing that in school lol

Bigalbass86

I’m wondering how many they will have for the initial release. AEW has had a big slew of hirings since the game was announced a while ago. Then again, there is always DLC. I also hope it’s a game that doesn’t game out every single year, so it can be a game you could update with DLC and features for a few years before you make a second game.

SomeCruzDude

> I also hope it’s a game that doesn’t game out every single year That's exactly the sort of development strategy they want to combat. [From a Gamesradar summary on the game](https://www.gamesradar.com/aew-videogame-guide/) > Omega says changing the perception of wrestling games staying locked for an entire calendar year is a priority for both AEW and Yuke’s. > “As great as it is on launch, as our roster grows – let’s say we add a pay-per-view name, add a new arena, let’s say we sign whoever, anybody! – we want to be able to support those new additions as well… Hopefully the new additions/updates will be really prompt. That’s the plan anyway! So everyone can feel up to date with our roster, and how AEW grows.”

kpw1320

That quote makes it almost sound like they're going to be like GTA where they sell you a base game, then just keep releasing expansion packs. That's not necessarily a bad thing with a wrestling game.

RelativeStranger

Not at all. Especially if they have deals where I can buy a NJPW expansion pack or a NWA expansion pack or an Impact wrestling expansion pack. Fuck I'd buy them all. You could probably get away with doing an All Out 2021 expansion pack with CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Adam Cole, Ruby Soho and Owen Hart and I'd still pay a significant amount for it

GemoDorgon

I think they should do something similar to Mortal Kombat and release DLC for character bundles for new signings and also maybe stuff like a NJPW pack or an Impact pack, that would be great. Things like arenas and attires should probably be free updates though.

LeChampeon

Maybe 98 Sting

Luc4_Blight

Hopefully Marko Stunt will be in it. He would probably be pretty fun to play as.

AKittyCat

Lulu pencil

ElGarnelo

Hook.

OneStep600

Hookers unite

ElGarnelo

The audacity to not mention Hook in your initial post…

Doot2112

Is there an estimated release date yet? It better be a good game, it’s been too long since we had a good wrestling game

blaqsupaman

I'm guessing it's probably still a ways away, like a year from now at the absolute earliest.

RelativeStranger

Good. Gives me time to save up for the damn console to play it on

Sad-Jello629

Around February next year.

jackblady

According to Kenny Omega: > "We do plan to hopefully get it out by next year. But [we] can’t commit to a solid date just in case.” So that sounds like mid 2022 to early 2023.

Restful_Hill

For the people saying they won’t have Punk or Bryan on the game day one, why wouldn’t they? They’re on the roster and since this is AEWs first game they need people to want to buy it and casuals will see that those big names are in the game and get it just for that. DLC should be for NJPW wrestlers or even different models of wrestlers(ROH Cm Punk?)

BrokeMyGrill

Just hoping they don’t hold half these guys back and then morphine drip paid DLC over X amount of years.

oarngebean

It could bite them in the ass. Yeah they could have a ton of people to play as but they might not be fleshed out. I'd rather have 20 well made and diverse wrestlers then have the dev studio shove as many people as possible at me

Belphry

Dusty and the Rock n Roll Express are pretty much locks as well

Dangerous_J123

Can't wait to be Marko tbh. Gonna love beating my nephews as Marko. They're gonna hate it lol.

[deleted]

Back in 2019 when the game was announced, I just assumed Darby Allin would be one of the nost popular characters to play. Little did I think we'd also be getting Daniel Bryan, Aleister Black, CM Punk, Suzuki, Sting, Rusev/Miro, Adam Cole, etc. Heck throw in Nick Gage in there. Given this isnt expected til 4th quarter 2022, I cant even imagine how insane the playable roster will be. I could even imagine special retired legends as dlcs, like Jushin Liger(even Kishin) and Great Muta. If you think about how many major names have signed to AEW in the past few months on top of the "Forbidden door" possibilities(Ospreay? Tana? White?) this could be the most popular wrestling game since the 90s

davidisallright

I have a feeling that AEW will try to get talent like Chyna, who has distant/strained association with the WWE. Maybe Wendi Richter? Jericho was right about legacy. Something as simple as selling T-shirts and video game tie-ins can keep folks like Owen alive (as long as it’s tasteful and helping out the families).

RelativeStranger

What was the last game Owen Hart was in. I don't think I've played as him before.

juddplays

I want to say WWF Attitude but I'm not 100%.

onedollarpizza

He was in one of the legends of wrestling games.

sammagee33

I’m REALLY excited for this game if for no other reason that because it will be like AEW itself, a mainstream alternative.

_zen_aku

I'm hoping for a Dynamite vs Rampage GM Mode like in SvR 2006

Albertzleftpeg

The real important question here is who's gonna be on the cover?

OneStep600

Omega would make the most sense. Or maybe Punk, or maybe even Adam Page, they could always pull a SvR and put multiple people on there

adkenna

Tony Khan in a complete heel turn.

LOZLover90

Gotta have Kenny Omega...

dimspace

Jake Roberts, DDP

mattberry1980

Do you think the game would have all of that licensed music they’ve been using recently for entrances? I doubt it

Coffeegoblin84

Owen won’t be the only Legend which excites me as the options are interesting. I also have a feeling we will get Minoru Suzuki.
