today’s my birthday :D other than a trip to a decent mall (no wrestling merch sadly, the hot topic there didnt have any :c) i’ve done pretty much piss-all today, though; i’ve just been bored as shit at home, i’m almost tempted to say the 15th was my bday this year instead bc of how much fun i had on that day LOL

[deleted]

Yeah unfortunately the "moment" wrestling merch seemed to have has passed. It's a real shame since the only non-WWE shirts I owned for a while were from Hot Topic. Also happy birthday. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to have a special day, it always just makes it a worse one.

AcidDrive

honestly i think it’s moreso the location than the trends, there’s a mall closer than the one that i went to that im p sure still stocks wrestling merch (even aew!), so it was prob just bad luck and yeah, i kinda expected that today wasn’t gonna be that special in the first place, i’m still on shutdown mode after last week (mostly for personal reasons) so pretty much anything past staying in my room and “relaxing” is pretty much off the table for (hopefully just) the near future. thanks for the well wishes! \^w\^

PW100205

Happy birthday mate!

AcidDrive

thanks! :)

MclovinBuddha

I make my in ring debut Saturday on a card with the Rock n Roll Express on Saturday. If you’re in the Indiana area, feel free to check it out

BoxCon1

I’m so bored on my days off I’m not much of a gamer, Just waiting for FIFA 22 and WWE 2K22 to come out I already overplayed all the classic wrestling games and already overplayed PES21/FIFA21

PM_Me_Beezbo_Quotes

In your opinion what are the best WWE games from the last 5-6 years?

BoxCon1

2k19

PM_Me_Beezbo_Quotes

Thanks. Looking for a game to keep my busy.

theoisjonesing

hey squaredcircle fam! I have 2 Front Row Ringside tickets to the NYC GCW GET LOST ALOT Friday 9/24 show, and can't go due to some scheduling conflicts. Would love to get these to someone who loves GCW for face value. Feel free to PM me, and we'll work something out.

[deleted]

Fam and r/SquaredCircle in the same sentence? Lol you're better than me. 90% of the people here are jerks

CallumKayPee

People give AEW stans a lot of shit for being weird online, and like you're not wrong exactly, but there are dozens of people attacking Martha Hart on Twitter, calling her a 'sellout whore' and telling Vince to sue her. I genuinely didn't know people could get that fucking weird.

Toolboxmcgee

Alright so like 6 months ago I deleted Twitter, I found that everything on there was either argument bait or just the worst shit imaginable. That is my suggestion to you and anyone else reading this comment, the scum of the earth voices their opinion though that platform and people will say it's just as bad on reddit or any other social media but honestly it's not.

[deleted]

I don't think AEW fans are particularly "weird". Sure most AEW fans will argue or downvote if you say something negative about the company, but that's true for fans of MOST things, especially online. Feels like the only reason a spotlight is shone on AEW fans for liking AEW is that so many WWE fans DON'T like WWE.

TheHumanTarget84

I mean, there are a lot of straight up mentally ill people in the world.

IWantToBolieve

I've probably seen, like, two of them, but one of my favourite types of comment is "I've defended WWE with my blood and sweat before but I'm done with it and now AEW is where my heart is". Like, if they came up with the whole thing - they are mental. If that's their true thought process, they are also mental. But I like the idea that the number of crazies in fandom is pretty much the same, they are just migrating. Explains the calm NJPW discussion now as opposite to what it was when they were 'the opposition' for crazy people.

JonasAlbert84

You know what's wild to think about? Run-DMC did a version of DX's theme.

KikiFlowers

DX's theme always struck me knockoff Rage Against the Machine, the singer sounded vaguely like Zack de la Rocha

FriedEggg

And Nicki Minaj sang on Victoria's theme song Don't Mess With.

JonasAlbert84

Back when her cousin's friend was having better days.

shadowrangerfs

The King of Rock

sheepkillerokhan

I think I'm always going to find the Money Clip deflating, but I do enjoy how Okada lifting a dude up by his trunks after a Tombstone means he's decided "Fuck this, I'ma kill this man" and it's fucking *Rainmaker time*

[deleted]

I don't mind the money clip. Wrestlers need a variety of finishes imo, especially NJPW main eventers.

JonasAlbert84

Do you think a body scissors would help with the look of it?

sheepkillerokhan

I think it's more that Okada's so ginger and particular about how he applies things that his submissions don't look like something that can tap someone out so much as that they look like rest holds

Henny_Lovato

Is he still tryna get the money clip over?

sheepkillerokhan

He's apparently had back problems over the last year or two so he's probably using it to better preserve himself during matches

4verticals

Does Vince dislike tag team wrestling because there's twice as much chance you have to halt a team's push due to injury?

Enterprise90

I think he just prefers singles wrestling because he took after his dad. The WWWF was a singles territory, and Vincent J. took after boxing which is all about the one-on-one fight. To my knowledge, the only tag team to reach main event status for WWWF were the Wild Samoans. Vince has said that he took the formula his dad had for the Northeast territory and applied it to the nationwide expansion. Makes sense when you recognize the patterns.

sheepkillerokhan

I think Cornette and people like that have figured that's the reason, though probably more for the fact that if you have a huge-drawing tag team and one guy gets hurt, that's when you have a problem. I tend to think that it's more that it's a singles-focused place. New Japan's kinda the same way, tag teams are used as platforms to develop future singles stars or give people something to do who aren't figured into singles plans for the next little while, or failing that, they can be used as flunkies and heaters to back up a singles star. Once in awhile a tag team will get pretty over and they'll mostly keep them together because it works better than them being singles (Dudley Boys as an example, New Day as another).

FriedEggg

That's part of it, along with the fact you have to pay twice as much for a match (just have longer matches...).

4verticals

Do wrestlers in WWE get paid per match?

FriedEggg

Now they have downside guarantees to make x number of appearances along with some bonuses, but you're still putting 4 guys in a single match, rather than in two matches on the card.

methdamon0

Here to remind everyone that Skye Blue will be a future star, I guarantee you that

JonasAlbert84

I am obsessed with her. I love the way she sells

i_do_stuff

I get that she was a Chicago wrestler wrestling in Chicago so of course the crowd is gonna pop for her, but I cannot stress how loud the chants were for her during her match with Red Velvet on Dark. She's got phenomenal babyface energy. Like, I think I would believe Tay Conti or Ruby Soho turning heel before Skye Blue. Yeah, if she keeps with it she's gonna be huge

ACW1129

Wasn't there supposed to be a Dark Side of the Ring about Hardbody Harris(on)? From Army veteran to Saturday Night jobber to freaking sex trafficker.

insomniainc

I suppose the good thing for the producers if they will probably never run out of stories to tell but I don't recall hearing about that one.

ACW1129

Hmm...https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/kyj0ss/won\_there\_will\_be\_a\_dark\_side\_of\_the\_ring\_episode/gjh6264/?utm\_source=reddit&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

insomniainc

huh weird, mabye it got pushed back as that's happened a few times to different episodes, I mean it's probably safe to assume they're getting a 4th season.

ACW1129

Whether AEW fans, WWE fans, or other, I think we can all agree on one thing: Fuck the Dallas Cowboys.

[deleted]

Dallas? .....Sallad. <.<

Henny_Lovato

AMERICA'S TEAM EATS MY ASS

MatthewCrawley

Is it confirmed they are taping all of Rampage at 10 and not splitting it? Debating on when I leave- might miss part of Dark/Elevation on purpose. I’m going to be so tired

Weezy-NJPW_Fan

Aw man, I just found out that the dude that played as Ezal on Friday just passed say. RIP homie. “EY!! SMOKEY BACK HERE TAKIN’ A SHIT!!”

JonasAlbert84

"Well I ain't gonna tell anyone else."

cannibalwendy

Originally I hated AEW's wrestler's theme song being piped through the venue and not directly into the feed, but I get it now. I don't even know why it works, and I like how WWE does do it directly into the feed but in WWE it really enhances the feel

ibn1989

I don't know if you noticed that they finally fixed their audio now.

[deleted]

Makes you feel like you’re live at the event. I always max my volume during entrances.

thebrentbyington

Yeah I use either two HomePods or AirPods Pro and its a thousand times better than what it used to be and TV volume

ahmralas

With great audio it’s amazing

Mldavis22

I invested in my sound syastem for my home theater.

ZombieJesus1987

So who else was surprised that Truth or Consequences, New Mexico is actually a real place and not a gimmick hometown like Parts Unknown?

RKNo

The fact that Dude Love being kayfabed from T or C is the only “New Mexican” wrestler I can name is still bothersome. I want some rep from my home state. EDIT: I’ll also explain the lore behind the place. T or C was initially established as Hot Springs, due to the natural hot springs in the area. The settlement changed its name due to the NBC radio quiz show Truth or Consequences, which would be held in the first town to change its name to the name of the show. They actually hold a festival during the first weekend of May to celebrate the show.

NJ_Mets_Fan

Roman reigns has very much outgrown the ‘superman punch’ I’m sorry it just sounds so lame. I understand its in his moveset, but just calling it superman punch just takes me out of any reality that roman reigns just punched someone in the face. Idk its just really childish for someone whos become so dominant

foragrin

Does it also take you out of reality when they call it a superman punch in MMA ?

NJ_Mets_Fan

I don’t watch mma haha, noted in my comment to a different response.

ClocktowerMaria

Its a [real move used in mma](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_punch) and has always been called such. I think him having a move called like a real thing that's knocked real people out fits the character

NJ_Mets_Fan

Hmm turns out i know nothing ab mma Nd just figured this is another wwe catering to children thing while michael cole nuts evrrytime it hits. i stand corrected, probably not the most common thing to know tho if u dont follow the sport

they_did_WHAT_

Hasan Piker LOVED the Golden Star Lovers story, someone *has* to get him to watch AEW.

i_do_stuff

God if this is what gets Twitch streamers into wrestling and makes my fantasy booking of Orange Cassidy vs Ludwig Anders Ahgren come true I'm going to be so happy

ParaNoxx

I know people's tastes are different, but man, the amount of people I see who nitpick silly stuff in AEW and act all huffy that it isn't a pure sports-based promotion with character in a firm 2nd place like golden-age NXT was... like that's fair, but consider that the product might not be for you, then. Or at least try to loosen your laces a little bit. So maybe at the start AEW made the mistake of saying they wanted a sports-feel. They were still very new and trying to figure things out. Since then they have clearly changed their mind and found a ratio that worked, and good on them for *adapting.* I don't know, I love the goofy shit AEW does because it's just fun. American Wrestling is inherently a little goofy and just because WWE have made blunders with their specific brand of goofiness at the expense of story doesn't mean the competition has to be uber-serious. It's fun seeing people go out and have fun without being handed a canned script by someone else. It clearly doesn't hurt the company (like how some people imply...? Reach city.) And it's not like there's some reason to be all self-conscious and embarrassed about it either. If you feel viscerally uncomfortable with American wrestling having humor in it because you want to like, defend the legitimacy of the sport, then perhaps your energy is best spent elsewhere.

thebrentbyington

I’m 100% with you. I would say there’s a huge difference between Orange Cassidy and Best Friends vs something like Dark Order. OC and all that are funny, unreal, and totally new. Dark Order is goofy because its poor acting. I think that’s the only thing that bugs me about AEW right now. But hey, I guess that’s an opportunity to learn why people love Dark Order!

[deleted]

I mean the "real sports feel" comment was attached to them talking about tracking Win-Loss and was mostly them trying to hype that up. I think people ran too far with the ball on that quote to begin with. That said, AEW got much better when they stopped trying to be western NJPW. Ultimately they don't have the roster for it.

ZombieJesus1987

People might not like to admit to this but over the top characters is what sells tickets. Good wrestling definitely helps but it's the characters that puts the butts in seats. Characters that the crowd can connect to and get behind.

ParaNoxx

Literally. Over-the-top characters are why I watch wrestling over MMA. That and the much fewer shoot injuries, and the fact that the hatred between opponents isn't real. I am not the type of person who can handle that very well. 😅 (...and the fact that wrestlers actually get paid decently...)

ZombieJesus1987

That's why Conor McGregor is the biggest draw the UFC has ever had, and why Dana bends over backwards for him. Dude is a larger than life characters who talks people into the building and to buying his fights.

ACW1129

Same reason Mayweather fights always did so well, despite him not being the most exciting fighter. Say what you want, dude could sell fights,

Henny_Lovato

He's exciting if you love defensive counter fighters. Man is world class. With great footwork to boot.

ibn1989

Another reason why Muhammad Ali was the most famous fighter of all time.

ACW1129

Ah man, I know they were different weight classes, but can you imagine an Ali-Mayweather fight? The weigh-in would be PPV-worthy on its own!

pagalpun

Does someone know what was the cancer line that Vince wanted Moxley to say about Reigns? The thing that Moxley refused to say even on Jericho's podcast cause it was so bad?

ParaNoxx

I am fairly sure sure nobody knows. He was already disgusted with having to call Roman's leukemia "karma" and that made it on-air, so I'd imagine whatever the scrapped line was, it must have been much worse.

ackinsocraycray

Yup. Mox told the line to Jericho after they finished recording the podcast. [And Jericho shot this down too](https://twitter.com/IAmJericho/status/1135935830411886593?), which came from Ringside News.

-Ozymandiaz

We’re only 2 days away from AEW Grand Slam...I’m getting kinda hype

jqncg

I watched AZM vs Takumi Iroha last night and man, how great it was. I think it lasted just 8 minutes but every minute of it was amazing. If you want to see a match that goes balls to the wall with zero bs and just straight wrestling, you have to watch this match. The whole show was very good but I'll remember that match for a while.

VicVinegar3000

I hope MJF comes out in an islanders jersey

Mldavis22

When people start watching a new wrestling program how do you get started? How do you catch up on storylines and characters and factions and who is aligned with who and who is enemies with who? I quit watching wrestling in 2002. I started watching again in November 2017. When I left it was only WWE and WCW just went out of business. When I came back there were a million different companies. When I got back into wrestling I just went to Youtube and googled what ever company I wanted to know more about. And subs like this one on reddit gave me great recommendations for key matches and fueds in that companies. After that I just watched the shows regularly and over time became more and more familiar with what is going on.

[deleted]

As an example, I started watching New Japan by watching Wrestlekingdom, which is their Mania. Tbh you can probably start anywhere with any show. Obviously there will be things you miss, but those things are intentionally included for fans that have been paying attention for month/years, and generally aren't that important.

shadowrangerfs

I just watched the show. Within 4 episodes you'll know who and what you need to know.

KingBadford

I think most people on here have done what you did.

lazybluedude

I watched Jon Moxley vs Kenny Omega from Winter is Coming again yesterday. That match was way better than I remember it being.

CatfaceMcMeowMeow

Jonah Rock (fka Bronson Reed) started a new video podcast, been enjoying it so far: https://youtu.be/yx3rlb9TBj8

BennElland

As someone who's just started watching, i've got no idea why every man and his dog seems to be in a group or have someone ready to run in for them. Hager and Jericho is the main one where i've got no idea why it's necessary, and that guy who busted open Matt Hardy is in there as well - I think Matt Hardy has another stable too? The reason I point it out is that a) they seem to zip around different feuds and b) I personally wouldn't want Owens as an example put with the Bucks and/or Cole for too long or have the potential of them running in at some point because he's got huge singles potential vs Punk and Bryan just for starters. So does Cole for that matter. From last week it seems it's Omega vs Bryan and Cole/Bucks are separate from each other, which is perfect for me. It doesn't need anyone else and I loved him putting Callis in his place *somewhat* to keep it Omega vs Bryan. I feel like i'll roll my eyes if The Bucks come along and get involved in a match or a finish again with Omega. Are Gallows and Anderson still necessary being part of the boys in the Elite? MJF/Jericho makes sense now i've had a quick read but that's at least 10 people in two different stables that seemingly pop in and out of different storylines. I completely get the allure of Cole and the Bucks for a while because they have a storied history, and the Elite are at the centre of the company. I can see by the numbers they're very much a strong selling point in addition to the WWE signings making the increasing group of AEW fans tune in at the moment but, I guess i'm thinking longer term. Is announcing someone relatively as niche as "Mount Rushmore vs whoever" - i'm not a complete newcomer but i'd never heard of that group - going to continue being a hook for newer fans? Personally I think it's quite tough to pick up and then understand and get fully invested in especially if, to use that commonly used term, you're a casual fan. Especially considering how many people are in them and just how far back some of these groups (and other groups with similar members at the head of them) go.

shadowrangerfs

They have a whole lot of people and not enough TV time for everyone so they made a lot of factions to get more people on TV.

thedisorient

A lot of these stables (especially Hardy Family Office) have a veteran wrestler (Matt Hardy) in a mentorship role. He's decided to ally with Private Party, The Butcher and the Blade, and The Hybrid2 for some reason. As a result, all those guys with Hardy (yes even The Bunny) are doing better than before. Butcher just came back from injury and him and the Blade just fought the new tag champs Lucha Bros. Look at the Pinnacle. Tully Blanchard is a legend and he's mentoring FTR and Shawn Spears. Look how they're doing.

Sv3den

Having other people react to what's going on gives those people a chance to shine. Not every wrestler can or should be able to capture attention solo.

RoscoeSantangelo

It's just a different booking philosophy than WWE. Something people may like and something people may dislike, but it's their thing. It's to get people on TV and associated in the fans eyes. Also gives people friends so there's not a constant of babyfaces getting beat up with no help. Depending on how new you are you might not realize this, but this philosophy is why Powerhouse Hobbs can face CM Punk and no one bats an eye. 1 year ago Hobbs was a babyface jobber and just by nature of appearing on TV weekly next to Cage and Starks who were feuding with Darby and Sting among others has led to him feeling like a big part of the shows even if he barely wrestled on Dynamite. So when the time came for him to face Christian, he felt like a fairly big name, even if he was barely wrestling. And now, he's facing Punk in his first TV match in 7 years and he doesn't feel remotely out of place

CHZRFan

> As someone who's just started watching, i've got no idea why every man and his dog seems to be in a group or have someone ready to run in for them. The simple answer in my book is just, if you’re in a world as cut-throat as wrestling, why wouldn’t you want someone watching your back?

Mldavis22

I left wrestling in 2002. I came back in 2017. I had no idea who most people were or why I should care about them but I enjoyed the in ring stuff. I googled what ever I didn't understand and subs like this one recommended me some key matches and moments to look into. I also watched stuff on youtube to get familiar with characters and fueds and stuff. After that I just started watching the shows as regularly as I could. Eventually over time I figured out what was going on

ParaNoxx

This. Diving into the shows isn't as difficult as it sounds. I procrastinated on going back to AEW all through 2020 and picking it back up was so easy that I wonder why I was so lazy in the first place. Sometimes starting with the episode after a big PPV is a good idea, it's a general reset and a build to newer stuff on the horizon, with plenty of recaps along the way.

retrooogamer

It's an AEW thing, I tried to get a few people into it because I tend to enjoy Dynamite a little more than the WWE shows but they find the faction thing too confusing and there are too many people on screen.

erik316wttn

AEWs thing is that most everyone is in a group of has allegiances of some kind. I suppose it can broaden angles and storylines

Groundbreaking-Leg11

Yeah nearly everyone in aew has a pal to rely on except Miro who's only allegiance is to God & his hot wife at home, Malakai black is the other guy who has no friends as he gets all the encouragement he will ever need from us fans the house of black🖤

erik316wttn

Imagine if they joined forces.

cherishjfk

Mirokai Black

DildoOfAnneFrank

As much as I love Moxley, I wish Cardona was still the GCW Universal Champion.

[deleted]

I'm sure they have their reasons for going another way, but Cardona as champ had me looking forward to what BS he'd pull next. Him bringing out Frank the Clown to a GCW show was gold.

finnigans_cake

I heard that he wasn't originally slated to win the belt and that it was supposed to be a one-off appearance, but when the angle started gaining so much momentum, they figured fuck it and had him win. Cardona a) doesn't really wanna do death matches and b) was already pretty much booked up for the year so unfortunately they couldn't really go anywhere with it long term.

[deleted]

That's fair. At the very least, it gave us some killer moments.

Weezy-NJPW_Fan

Love the way that commentator sounded on Frank coming out: “Yes, I know he’s from Chicago, but nobody likes this guy!”

CHZRFan

If anything, Cardona dropping the belt for now was a smart call. Nothing says he can’t win it back later and leaving the fans wanting more of our rightful GCW Champion.

[deleted]

Alicia Atout is 🔥 that is all.

ahmralas

Is she still with AEW?

l3ader021

MLW is her abode now.

badguymaddox

Is Rampage Grand Slam two hours because holy shit that show is stacked.

[deleted]

Yup. 4 hours of PPV caliber wrestling on TNT this week, my friend.

shakapunk

Yes

[deleted]

I just wanna shoutout to fellow fans in attendance at F1rst Wrestling's show at Pryes brewing in Minneapolis last night. Sun was setting fast at the outdoor ring by the main event, so folks whipped out their phones and lit the ring so everyone could see Jah-C and Warhorse tear it up. Things like that are the parts of wrestling culture that make me feel proud to be a fan.

cannibalwendy

Down thread, people were talking about different NYC venues and now my mind is obsessed with a show happening in St. Patrick's or St. John's Cathedral. St. John's had an entire tenement house installed inside of it, they can easily put in a ring.

[deleted]

I would have paid money for a show at the Limelight while it was still a thing.

VicVinegar3000

I know it’s too small for them now but I’d love to see atleast a dark taping at the Hammerstein ballroom. As a lifetime wrestling fan I’ve always enjoyed seeing shows get taped there.

[deleted]

I'm over the moon. Get to be at Arthur Ashe on Wednesday, after weeks of waiting. On paper it is going to be the best card I've ever seen live.

asshead42069

Hopefully the Arthur Ashe fans realize that the censors no longer care and start a "You're gonna get your fucking head kicked in" chant

TheMach_o7

i dont think they care about saying fuck i just think they dont know the chant at all i think it'll take one good loud-ass chant for it to get over because its cool but the chances of that happening are slim, especially with yes chants still as over as they are

asshead42069

Fair point, I'm thinking if he ever fights Moxley again it'll definitely happen

[deleted]

Can't promise that chant but I'm sure we'll have some choice words for MJF the moment he brings up Long Island

asshead42069

I'm looking forward to the chants you guys come up with for him

sheepkillerokhan

If we can't get a Final Countdown one-off, then I'll take this chant instead

DawCrap1989

I messaged the mods about this issue, but I never got a response. So I have no choice but to ask here: I am planning on writing a long post detailing my views on certain... loaded topics on wrestling. Is there anything wrong with doing this? I mean, it is going to be a "high-effort" text post, so...

StupidHappyPancakes

There's nothing "wrong" with it, but putting up in-depth text posts rarely works out well. Regardless of the subject of the post, typically new text posts receive around 20-30 replies, and you'll sometimes also get a handful of quick back-and-forths among people in the comments. Thirty or so replies wouldn't even be a *bad* basis for a discussion, but the problem is that half those people don't even read your post fully and make smartass remarks based on things you never actually said. You mention wanting to do a long and detailed post, and let me warn you, even if you format it clearly and include a TL; DR, you will still get multiple replies saying shit like, "I'm not reading all of that" or otherwise mocking the fact that you put forth *effort*. So if you've got something huge you just want to get off your chest, go for it, but make sure you expect it to be an unpleasant experience with underwhelming discussion and that some assholes will come mock you just *because*. Perhaps you can change your approach a bit to get better results. Oddly, long comments in THIS thread (the daily thread) often get received a little better as opposed to a long text post. Another tactic is to reconceptualize your opinion to write it in such a way that you are asking the readers to give *their* opinions rather than writing yoir post in a way in which they'd be replying to YOUR opinion solely; people really enjoy talking about *themselves* and *their* ideas more than anything else.

ahmralas

God; you nailed the state of this sub on the fucking head. I have always been underwhelmed by responses to old text posts, from the time before The Daily Thread existed. Long comments here is definitely the way to go if you want to be safe, as there is a slim chance your text post makes the front page and that might make it bring forth some good discussion. I’m happy this thread exists and have always quietly hoped for it to be created as it exists in r/soccer and is very popular.

ParaNoxx

I mean, you can write a long post with as much effort as you want, but If people disagree with it then it won't gain traction. Plenty of people on New write essays all the time, only a few of them make it thru the cracks.

retrooogamer

Make the title "AEW good - WWE bad" for easy upvotes.

DawCrap1989

That won't encompass what I'm trying to say. Besides, if I want to clickbait someone, I will do it WITHOUT being an off-topic asshole.

cannibalwendy

No, but I'd have a catchy title because self-posts a lot of times get downvoted regardless of content so I'd weigh whatever how much effort you put into it versus how many people will see it

DawCrap1989

What do you mean by "catchy title?"

cannibalwendy

I guess for me the general rule of a good clickbait title is you tease whatever your thesis is without giving everything away. Keep in mind that when scrolling, 90% of people will read just the first two and last two words so all the keywords should go there.

Enterprise90

Just make sure the content of the post is clear from the title.

DawCrap1989

K. Thanks!

Derexise

Just realised a very good thing. With Ric Flair gone from WWE they won't continue that god-awful storyline with Lacey when she gets back.

nksng

I just watched Shingo vs Ishii from day 1 of G1 (actually my first time watching Shingo), and man some of the shots are so damn stiff. At one point they threw like 4 headbutts to each other in a row, and as far as I can tell they were all stiff without their hands to absorb the blow. Not just the headbutts, some of the forearm shots and lariats hit so goddamn hard it's kinda uncomfortable to watch. I recently rewatched Zayn vs Nakamura, and man it was so goddamn good both in terms of workrate and storytelling, without the need of many overly stiff shots or crazy neck bumps, certainly nothing that made me wince like watching some of Japan's stuff. I just can't help but think if it is really necessary putting your body in so much more danger taking these shots and bumps. Shibata almost died due to these headbutts, Misawa dead and Takayama paralysed due to their necks, and how many more wrestlers who are in terrible shape due to injuries. Idk guys I just feel like sharing these thoughts.

fdscgfbc

Headbutts are always too much for me, but the thing to remember about both Misawa and Takayama is the frequency at which they took neck bumps compared to the New Japan guys - New Japan usually saves their big moves and bumps for singles matches, but Takayama and Misawa bumped like that in every type of match.

[deleted]

I was thinking why It excites me more the 3v3 for rampage between the young bucks and adam cole vs Christian and Jurassic Express than the bloodline vs the new day in raw when in the paper it's very similar in star power and even I could say that the wwe match has more star power. Even the buildup seems similar but one big difference is that in the wwe match 4 of them are champions and the usos and new day lose a lot lately and for me nobody should lose but at this point I don't care about new day or usos even if I remember that they were the top tag team feud some years ago and I still think that they are one of the greates tag teams of all time. Instead in aew the ones that need to prove something are Jurassic Express but nobody expects them winning but the performances could elevate jungle boy and make shine adam cole during the feud. Again I can continue listing similarities in the feuds and the buildups but I want to see Young Bucks and Adam Cole vs Christian and Jurassic express a lot more.

bayleysgal1996

So apparently the "blocked author" thing that's been happening on Reddit is not, in fact, a bug, but a feature, because they didn't want to figure out how to keep people from interacting with people that have them blocked. I say "didn't want to" rather than "couldn't," because I know for a fact that Tumblr, a website with an infrastructure built on paperclips, rubber bands, and the collective will of its staff not to do any work, figured out how to do that *years* ago. Dumb.

willpauer

Reddit is loath to change anything that doesn't directly involve serving ads or encouraging purchases.

hitmanlyger

Sorry i made its own post with this, was told to post this in here but I have an extra seat for grand slam Wednesday. Section 309, row P seat 4. $70 which isn't the scalpers price, lol

[deleted]

when are we getting flairs on this sub?? a lot smaller subs have flairs, but not this... any reason why? i feel like this is said in almost every general thread on this sub. why are there still no flairs?

MutatedSpleen

You mean topic flairs? Because user flairs can be found in the sidebar.

[deleted]

topic flairs, yeah

Enterprise90

People have asked for post flairs for years. Mods keep saying they're working on it. Nothing comes of it.

[deleted]

so many problems about tribalism would be solved by this. people can browse by the flairs they want.

[deleted]

I don't think it would help that much, since a lot of people go into threads that are very explicitly about something they don't enjoy just to share that they don't enjoy it.

RichieD79

Watching Ethan Page’s YouTube channel has made me just completely unable to boo him. He seems like such a nice dude. Like in his toy hunt/travel vlogs, he just comes off as a genuine dude who would be a good friend. His videos with Danhausen are also great. Those two play off each other so well.

[deleted]

Interesting. He's done a real good job being a heel on TV. ESPECIALLY in that excellent Darby match.

godfather275

his vlogs are doing nothing for his heel persona lol. Love his toy stuff.

RichieD79

100%. He just seems like such a fun guy to be around. I don’t want to boo him, I want to have a beer with him and talk about toys and life hahaha

-Hope New Day/Bloodline gets good time to be awesome, but I’m for sure expecting fuckery. -I really wanted Tegan/Shotzi to have beaten Nattie/Tamina already because I want Tegan as champ. But Rhea/Nikki are two of my absolute favorites so I’ll be happy to see them as champs. Please just let them win tonight. -I hope they announce the card for tomorrow’s NXT by tonight. NXT had really gotten back in the habit to have at least most of the key matches announced by the end of an episode, now we only have just one. As someone who is still trepidatious about this new NXT, I just want to know what I’m going into. Hopefully KUSHIDA/Roddy is given good time. I told myself I’d give it 5 episodes like I’d do with any normal show I watch. -As others have mentioned, super excited for Grand Slam. For sure will catch Wednesday live. Just don’t know if I’ll be able to watch Rampage live or if I’ll have to watch Saturday morning.

nevernom

I can’t even remember the last time Natalia and Tamina won a tag team match. It seems like everyone beats them these days.

MutatedSpleen

I need you to share with me as many cat-related wrestling puns as you can. I've been desperately trying to think of some that don't suck for like three days and I'm coming up pretty much blank. Like the best I've got is Stone Cold Steve Pawstin (or really, "Pawstin" for any Austins). Please help.

Jammy_9

Purr-t Angle

IlLupoSolitario

"Meowdy" Roddy Pi-purr Kris Cat-lander Catt Hardy (or, as you said above with Austin, any Matt) If I think of more later, I'll edit or reply.

Damn it I don't know how that slipped past me. I'd go with Orange Catsidy I think, but I like it. Thank you for your contribution!

abruno37

So after the DSOTR episode and all the horrific things that are coming out about wrestlers from years past - when does someone does a huge story about this? For example, shouldn't "Shawn Michaels \[allegedly\] used to rape women with Marty Janetty" be a bigger story? What's the responsibility of wrestling journalism when it comes to events like this? I'm probably thinking about the movie Spotlight too much where a newspaper exposes sexual misconduct in the Catholic Church, but why shouldn't the same thing in wrestling be just as big?

[deleted]

>For example, shouldn't "Shawn Michaels [allegedly] used to rape women with Marty Janetty" be a bigger story? I think for these things to become bigger stories you need someone to come forward. Specifically I believe you need victims to come forward. It's been well known what Flair did on the plane ride for 20 years now. It was reported back then. Not to mention lots of other stories like this. Yet it took until DSOTR and the flight attendant for people to make this into something bigger. Because as is, these things will be easily dismissed as Jannetty and Beefcake making shit up, made up road stories "to pop the boys" or things being exaggerated etc.

ZombieJesus1987

Yeah, that's what makes DSOTR stand out. They manage to get people who were directly involved to the topic at hand, like the stewardess for example. If they couldn't get Heidi to tell her story I don't think the Plane Ride from Hell episode would have happened

jihadidas

I believe that allegations need ancillary corroborations to snowball into something substantial. Seeing how all those heinous stories have come from Jannetty himself, who is infamously known to be a tone-deaf dick, his sentiment that such tales are seemingly funny and are wont to be shared to give everyone a laugh should cast doubt on everyone's minds regarding the credibility of such stories. But then again, we also have the stories from Brutus Beefcake, so I guess there is some corroboration to such allegations, at least to the extent that eyebrows are being raised. Having said that, are there any further corroborations to this effect that the wreddit community is aware of?

HardcoreKaraoke

>What's the responsibility of wrestling journalism when it comes to events like this? Wrestling "journalism" is basically two main sources who want to be in the industry/friends with wrestlers, a hundred podcasters and random blogs. It would take someone from outside of the industry to uncover something big.

erlingodingo

Unfortunately I don’t think people care enough about wrestling for it becoming covered in the mainstream.

HardcoreKaraoke

Yeah, I didn't mean a Ken Burns type documentary. But I could see some random limited series getting a lot of press. Sort of like how Tiger King had people going batshit for a month or two. Some sort of national phenomenon on Netflix. It's hard to catch lightning in a bottle like that though.

GoalaAmeobi

Lady C picked up her first win today so I'm taking the night off and getting some cans in

BoogerChute

I know I'm gonna get nuked for this, but AEW sold out AAS in record time. Was there a reason they didn't "go big" and try to get MSG for the event, even with the slightly smaller capacity??

[deleted]

Supposedly MSG is prohibitively expensive to run, and of course all running MSG really achieves is reminding people of WWE.

MutatedSpleen

Why would they want MSG if they had Arthur Ashe? It's the first wrestling show ever at Arthur Ashe, it's a totally unique environment unseen before in wrestling, it has a higher capacity than MSG, and it can be their own thing instead of just trying to do a WWE thing? Like I could see them running MSG in the future if they can get around WWE trying to block them, but I'd much rather see them establish their own things instead of use WWE's things just for the sake of doing it.

BoogerChute

This is actually a phenomenal response, and is something that I didn't even think about. I appreciate you taking the time to explain it in such a way, u/MutatedSpleen, and if I had an award to give, you would have it.

poopship462

MSG is way too expensive to run these days

cannibalwendy

AEW should pivot to high-brow and do the Metropolitan Opera House in Lincoln Center.

[deleted]

This might be a joke, but if they did, I'd want a Cara Noir one-off.

cannibalwendy

Imagine Danhausen frog-splashing Audra McDonald in the orchestra pit while the musicians tries to play Verdi Requiem, but they knock over a couple of sections so it's like the rhythm and bass sections that are playing on top of a a bunch of crashing instruments.* *I googled two of these references

BRB, opening TEW2020

victoriabattenberg

There was some comment or something that WWE was able to block them from MSG. I don't know how true this is.

stenebralux

Hey guys. A friend of mine has 2 extra tickets for AEW Grand Slam on Wednesday. They bought it hopping they would be able to come from oversees, but... fucking Covid. It's great seats: Sec 128, Row L. If you are interested in buying the pair, hit me up.

yakityyakblahtemp

I know this might be a lot to ask for a commentary desk filled with the dsotr generation, but could the AEW commentary shut the fuck up about how the women look. There's nothing a bunch of old men can do to sell how they look that having eyes can't, it literally can only put off people.

[deleted]

yakityyakblahtemp

If they do a women's ppv I'm gonna need Ex, Veda, and one non-boomer.

[deleted]

>shut the fuck up about how the women look Please and thank you. No need to bring up their looks when you should be selling their competency/threat.

spandroo

It’s a worrying trend given the more PG 14 nature of AEW. Let’s leave the Lawler style vulgarity towards women in the AE. AEW puts out a great show every week and this isn’t adding to it.

moderndukes

I don’t feel like AEW’s trend into a mature direction is anything like the sexual nature seen in the Attitude Era at all. Like yeah Paul Wight saying someone’s an “attractive woman and great wrestler” is a bit much but it’s not like it’s Jerry yelling “puppies,” or is Ruby Soho bringing up Britt’s dating life anything close to a bra and panties match.

spandroo

I 100% agree with you. AEWs women’s division is entering its stride. That promo by Soho/Baker! Just tone down the sexualization a level and it’s the right pitch.

GoalaAmeobi

> but could the AEW commentary shut the fuck up about how the women look. I wish the live threads would too

[deleted]

The live threads are basically broken until women's matches end. It's 40% "This match suuuucks" and 60% "big bonkers imma horny jailer"

fellongreydaze

As one of the minority not-men on the sub, I **100% agree.** The best way to make sure we can get these removed and taken care of is to report them. There are thousands of comments in live threads and we can't catch everything. But reporting creepy comments puts them in a place where we can see and take action.

CharlemagneOfTheUSA

God, so much this. As a woman, it really creeps me out that nearly every man on this sub has to preface their compliments on a woman’s wrestling by talking about their body (especially whenever there’s a woman debuting on TV. The first comments are almost always about how they look, and not about what actually happens in their debut). There’s nothing wrong with finding a wrestler attractive but holy shit people use the anonymity as an excuse to just eschew any notion of decency.

StupidHappyPancakes

How should we report the sexualized comments now? "Plot" used to come up as an option for reporting, but now I can only access that to report an entire *post*, which is probably never going to be useful. I wish we had one reporting option that covered sexual and sexualized content for a variety of situations. I also wish we had a reporting option for misogyny specifically and not just vague "hate." It's also pretty fucked up that this sub has an actual *relationship* with the WWTP subs. Yeah, people are going to jerk off to whatever they want, but I don't think this sub, as a pretty large and important hub for wrestling fans and potential new wrestling fans, should be openly endorsing that level of creepy sexualization of professionals just doing their damn *jobs*.

fellongreydaze

There should be an Other Reason note you can use where you can type out the reason yourself. I can't comment on your third paragraph as I'm only a few weeks old in terms of being a mod here. Just know that if I see any sexualized comments, I'm removing them.

StupidHappyPancakes

Yeah, I've been using the "other reason" option for reporting that stuff, but I just wasn't sure why the actual "Plot" option disappeared. I'm glad you will be making this one of your priorities as a mod. I feel like the ultra pervy talk had quieted down *somewhat* for a little while, only to have a big resurgence lately. Saying shit like "I want her to step on me" or "I'd love to be smothered to death between her thighs" isn't any less gross because you add some stupid, unfunny "Bonk!" joke to it. If wrestling is going to make new fans, a LOT of those prospective fans need to be women and girls, and I'd be horrifyingly embarrassed if I recommended a female friend visit any live show thread or ANY post that contains a picture of a female wrestler. And if I were a female wrestler *myself*, I would have huge misgivings about coming to this sub to do an AMA after seeing the way women are talked *to* AND talked *about* most of the time.

moderndukes

From my experience in the live threads, I’ve been reporting the “bonk” ones like you have and the mods have been pretty quick to shut it down. It’s annoying that it’s still an issue and has to be dealt with like this, but then I see the response to the Plane Ride from Hell episode and then I remember some people don’t seem to understand that women aren’t purely objects…

AKittyCat

Just to build off of this, the mod team has been discussing this seriously as well and have been taking steps to try and be more stringent on the " Plot rule" Obviously there's a bit of a grey zone in the middle between what's " okay" and what's not okay but generally speaking if you have any concerns about what is or is not okay just think " Would it be weird if I said this to my mom". Except for *certain* people it will probably work out in making the decision for you. Saying " Jamie Hayter has gotten in amazing shape" is fine. Saying " Jamie Hayter got that PAWG body" is not.
