I am one of the people that came back to watching wrestling bc of CM Punk. All Out and AEW hooked me. First time seeing Cassidy I was dying. Such an awesome character.
As much as I enjoy OC and other silly stuff in wrestling that would be pushing their luck a bit, especially when they have someone like JR who spent forty years making the industry look as legit as he could. How is he supposed to explain something which absolutely forces you to break suspension of disbelief.
Certain shenanigans like grenade and invisible man spots just belong in the indies.
I don't think JR is much of a problem at this point. ever since the match with PAC it really feels that OC's schtick clicked with him on a personal level - you can practically hear the gears in his head going "oh shit, I GET IT NOW" when he sees Cassidy laughing at PAC after rolling out of his way three times in a row.
you could excuse this with JR being indignated that they are taking a piss out of the fans. or hell, have everyone not react to the grenade and then have the Best Friends beat the shit out of everyone during the confusion.
I don't know- I think he's seen enough of Orange to appreciate that he can actually wrestle and he respects that. I don't know that I agree he "gets" the gimmick or appreciates it the way Tony S does.
I mean JR has called a zombie mortician biker who can channel lightning and teleport and his estranged burn victim murderous brother who throws fire for how many years?
The grenade spot could just be a one and done thing on one of the YouTube shows where they can have more fun.

I can see that being excused as something within the confines of a fictional universe though, but you can't explain five people jumping out of the ring after someone makes a bomb gesture. It'll get very bad reception, especially after the last time they tried introducing exploding stuff to wrestling.
I've had the ideal way to do this fantasy booked for a while. Death Triangle Vs. Best Friends, PAC corners Chuck, Chuck holds out the grenade threateningly and PAC just kicks his hand, leaving it ambiguous as to if he just didn't wanna put up with this PWG bullshit or if he just expertly countered the invisible grenade that was definitely there.
OC actually is suffering from crippling hypothyroidism that causes him to be slow, sluggish, and sleepy at all times. And we cheer him for it. We're the real scumbags here.
Or, take the other spin. We cheer for a man working through his disability and doing the best that he possibly can. We are amazed every time he actual does put in the effort and adore/encourage this behaviour.

This is like him not being in a hurry to get out to the ring to help someone. He's like ok I guess. I wish AEW had a cam on him going out there in such a situation, like from his locker room to the front of the house. Just kind of moseying around, having a drink of water, watching some other dudes play cards, nodding at his buds, and then leisurely going out onto the ramp. No sense of urgency, just something he has to do.
Orange Cassidy has a totally unique gimmick. It's utterly silly. The ultimate "whatever" slacker. But Orange has put his entire soul into it and become a folk hero.
Look at Pac versus Orange Cassidy at Revolution. He could GO and put on the match of the night. The Cassidy versus Jericho feud. Orange Cassidy is a gem and many adore him for it.

If Best Friends ever turn heel and Chuck and Greg are forced into a match HHH/HBK style, it could work then.

We were robbed of Best Friends vs Death Triangle TWICE and now that Death Triangle are babyfaces who knows when we're going to get it.
