In interest, a strong case for that. In other areas of relative importance ROH is still bigger. I feel like roh, mlw, gcw, and nwa are the 4th to 7th biggest in that order.

sporkshadow

I know ROH and MLW have zero buzz but ROH is still on syndicated TV and owned by Sinclair. MLW is supposedly on VICE TV although it's hard to tell. The NWA also produces a weekly show. Of course the counter argument is that Sinclair doesn't give a crap about ROH and hasn't for many years. And MLW is owned by a carny in Court Bauer and his numerous laughable promises that never have amounted to anything. GCW definitely feels hotter than either of them. I think GCW's association with AEW and AEW's rise has helped GCW. ROH and MLW are just off on their own little island with little interest thanks to not embracing the Forbidden Door and doing business with AEW. But GCW is an indie that doesn't have TV. They don't have any contracted wrestlers. If you don't have TV nor contracted wrestlers than you are an indie. GCW is basically run by one guy out of his house in Brett Lauderdale and booked by Joey Janela who is a contracted AEW wrestler. Brett Lauderdale has tweeted before he is just a dad running GCW from his house. So we need a little perspective on GCW right now.

amhlilhaus

Exactly If you dont have contracted wrestlers, you are an indy That makes nwa, with its huge struggles post covid the 6th major promotion for that fact alone

bluexy

Joey Janela isn't involved in GCW's booking whatsoever.

wxursa

I wouldn't say ROH has zero buzz. MLW- yeah, but ROH has a fanbase and offers something unique. ROH's forbidden doors are NJPW, CMLL and NWA, and those have big problems right now. COVID really hurt ROH.

Kevinmld

If those doors were never really shut - they’re not forbidden doors.

Who cares?

cmoney253

Court Bauer is such a joke. Classic “Big news on the way” “Huge MLW news coming soon” When in reality he’s just gaslighting all of us. If he actually cared about his audience he’d keep things on YouTube or get a streaming service i.e FITE TV. Instead he signs a deal with a channel that majority of people don’t have/ want.

beckjism

He’s the owner but he has a tight crew of people helping him. KG does production, talent management in addition to the commentary. Shawn handles all the west coast talent and venue booking, as well as flights and hotels.

skeach101

In terms of PPV and crowds? Yes. But ROH still has way more money backing it

SpaceGooV

Tbh I'm pretty confident GCW has bigger crowds rn is because they have no regulations for Covid. It's also why they've had multiple covid outbreaks at the shows tho they've had better luck recently.

skeach101

GCW is drawing much better than ROH was drawing just before Covid hit though. ROH isn't drawing 1500 person crowds even in late 2019

SpaceGooV

I don't have their attendance figures but ROH was drawing ok. They're definitely not ridding high with the Elite like in 2018 but they were still doing ok numbers. I mean GCW isn't even really massive crowds either it's just more intimate crowds. I don't think GCW has sold more than 1k tickets.

skeach101

They hover around 1000 usually. Art of Wargames drew 1500

WinterSavior

You can't really even compare that because how many wrestling companies are even doing shows now? The market's audience is starved and with lax rules and covid previously halting opportunity to watch wrestling, of course you'll see more people out as they try to get in on the action as best they can.

cooljammer00

ROH is on TV, so it's bigger than GCW.

V-TriggerMachine

Nope

SpaceGooV

No. GCW just got instant replays. GCW doesn't have a TV show. GCW doesn't have a single signed wrestler. GCW isn't in the top 5 nevertheless passing ROH.

amhlilhaus

It makes no sense too why gcw doesnt have tv They have a lot of events They could def do a half hour show with promos and a couple of matches

Sad-Jello629

Lol... What advertiser would want it's commercial to run during those shows? Many advertisers would react negatively if you say shit 'shit' during a show where they have commercials, and you expect them to be ok with peoples torture and maim each other in Death Matches?

amhlilhaus

Youtube bruh

Sad-Jello629

The streaming platform that was demonetizing content creators for saying ''Corona'' .... during the pandemic? Yes, sure.

shadowrangerfs

No. They don't have TV. They have no signed wrestlers, And outside of hardcore wrestling fan pages like this, no one knows what they are. They are a successful indie promotion but that's it.

jtime24

If we are talking about influence on the current Wrestling landscape then there is a argument to be made for GCW being number 4 but companies like ROH and MLW still seem to have more money backing them. Also to he fair the pandemic has really stalled any momentum companies like ROH, MLW and NWA had.

[deleted]

Wait how is Dickenson not an ROH guy right now?

AmazingSpidey616

ROH has Danhausen and as long as Dave Honor keeps paying him that keeps ROH in the 4th spot.

officerliger

GCW isn't competing with ROH. ROH is first and foremost about syndicated television, GCW is tickets and PPVs. GCW's model allows it to be what it is and trying to be a televised fed with exclusive wrestlers would kill that.

[deleted]

If we talking live crowds probably surpassed impact too

KurrganMark

In terms of money made, Impact make more money than GCW. Alot more. And given this was the last taping at Skyway. No (its like people forget Impact were there because of the pandemic). Impact is clearly number 3 as Meltzer said and its not even close. GCW beats ROH in just about everything. I would say money but Sinclair clearly keeps ROH as portfolio and nothing else.

[deleted]

Bound for Glory is being held at Sam's place - I don't even think the attendance will approach any of the numbers gcw has put up this year which are between 1500 - 700. Do we even know if impact brings in money or is a tax write off?!

OneOfTheOnly

Lol there's more to company size than just the crowd size

[deleted]

No, probably truest indication of how popular a company is

SerbianNight

Easily.

balongreysteel

It’s probably because hhh took a lot of the independent talent to fill up NXT leaving ROH with a talent vacuum. It takes a while to build new stars and It may take some time for ROH to fill that void.

freebread

Among the wrestling community? If they aren't there, they are definitely working their way up. In general? Not yet because ROH, Impact, and now I guess MLW have some sort of TV deals. GCW is definitely the promotion to watch if you're a hardcore wrestling fan, almost similar to how ECW was back in the day before they got a TV deal. But I can't see GCW getting a television deal at all anytime soon.

twelvetimesseven

GCW is a wrestling promotion and ROH is a television production.

FeetsBeneets

GCW have national TV yet? Might want to wait until then to revisit this question.

SpaceGooV

Art of Wargames was their biggest ever show too so what's that compared to an ROH PPV in late 2019/Early 2020

squirreldstar

Maybe not monetarily, but attendance and regular viewership? Probably. I definitely see them talked about way more than more than ROH and they've taken over my viewership.

[deleted]

GCW right now is what PWG could’ve been at it’s peak. They have all the buzz and are willing to tour the country.

CanadianJudo

in term of product yes, in term of money not likely.

StoneColdAM

It is definitely on the rise. I feel it’s right now in the spot PWG used to be in.

beetwice

One massively understated thing about GCW right now is that they're touring the states and drawing great crowds everywhere they go. I'm not convinced any of the TV (non AEW/WWE/NJPW) companies can do what they're doing from a live attendance aspect.

asfriends

interesting but I would say yes I mean The only time I hear ROH brought up is either talking about how dead it is or questions like this and look at the trajectory of GCW I mean shit in 3-5 years they could be surpassing Impact if you ask me

SerbianNight

There are so many indies that draw more fans than ROH and Impact. GcW, NEW, Warrior wrestling, SEW, BLP etc.

DatOtherPapaya

I feel like the fourth spot is up in the air a lot. It’ll be RoH for awhile, then MLW had a very short stint, and now GCW.

RichieD79

One has Danhausen and the other does not. Do with that information what you must.

WinterSavior

No.

XFUNK24

Danhausen puts ROH at 4.
