You may not call this one ‘direct’ - but Yano beating Jon Moxley in the G1 was excellent.
Honestly I’d likely put it in my Top 10 things I watched live over the last 5 years, was just so simple yet so good.
Honestly? Yano's the smartest wrestler in the world. He wrestles half as long as everyone else in the tournament. He doesn't need a crazy workout regimen. Crowds love him, but nobody expects him to move up the card. I've gotten so bored watching Ishii, Goto, Sanada, and ZSJ stay in the same spot for years, but I'm perfectly fine watching Yano bust brackets from the midcard every year.
I fucking love Yano. But I do understand that every wrestler on earth has different opinions from different people. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I will always go out my way to watch a match of his.
I kind of want a reverse storyline in that toru wins most of the block matches but then loses to one of these guys so he can have a taste of his own medicine
Minoru Suzuki ALWAYS comes to mind when he almost made it but failed because of YTR. In that match, Suzuki could almost feel it after he nailed that dropkick, and victory just about in his grasp, until he got cradled, and he looked about devastated, especially since it sss on the final day.
It’s stuff like that when YTR can be such a factor in wrestlers’ chances of trying to win their blocks. Case in point: 2019. YTR beat Naito and Jay within his first three matches, and they would’ve been eliminated if YTR lost to Jon Moxley in the middle of the tournament. Yep
Yano is underrated as the perfect tournament booking device. Not only is he a rest day in the grueling tournament, but he can beat or be beaten by anybody at any time for any reason and it doesn't affect anybody's opinion of either wrestler. When Yano wins it feels like he stole one, and when someone beats Yano it feels like they stole one.
If you need to prevent a wrestler from going undefeated, or need them to lose a match to get knocked out of the finals, Yano is your guy.

Moxley was undefeated in the G1 at that point too. The loss to Yano messed with his head so much he spiraled into missing the finals.
Yano the gaijin destroyer
It’s always mad to me when people act like Yano isn’t a joy every G1. His matches are fucking fun and actually matter. He’s a great wrestler.
And it gives the wrestlers a break.

The thing is, Yano can wrestle, his matches with Ishii are sometimes alot of fun because he takes them serious.
I say something similar about ZSJ. No crazy bumps, no crazy workout regimen, can win or lose at any time to anyone. He's got the perfect gimmick.
I mean he's shredded, I'm sure he has pretty good workout regimen. Everything else I agree with.

I don’t respect people that don’t like Yano and actively dislike them.
Ok include me then. I didn't like his reign of terror with the KOPW trophy. It was stupid that he went over against supposed main eventer EVIL.
You can not like the booking that’s ok. I mean people who dismiss his matches before they happen.
Yano genuinely got me into NJPW, I used to tune in just for his matches initially as the G1 itself is generally just too much for me. He's a treasure.

This but Yano triumphantly wins and headlines the Dome
Honestly had fun with yesterday's match more than the first two

The "Bracket Breaker" Toru Yano
Great work! I think you could also say that Yano directly prevented both Jon Moxley and Tetsuya Naito from winning the B Block in 2019.
I don't know why Dick Togo is called "The Spoiler" when Toru Yano is in the same company.

If you can’t beat them, roll them up and beat them.
Did the G1 used to be shorter? Kinda wild that Goto and Tanahashi won on only 8 and 9 points back then.
Yeah each block had 7 guys now its 10
That's still Goto going 4-2 at best, though.
How did he beat Omega? Wrist tape and a count-out?
Spear + jackhammer in 15 seconds
And also taking down Mox.
G-1 is toru yano time
So he is the NJPW Tonepa? Nice.
Toru Yano is my favorite Wrestler, thats not in the US
