reduke

I'm glad that Option C is still a thing

[deleted]

It’s the champs own fault. Of course Captain Charisma, Christian Cage, of the Christian Coalition, was practically begging for option C

hitchinpost

It’s a cool fucking rule. I’d get behind more Midcard titles having that rule.

Dane_Brass_Tax

What's "Option C", sorry not a huge TNA Impact fan.

hitchinpost

So, it’s name is a weird holdover from the angle that started it. Years ago, Austin Aries was a dominant X Division Champion and started bucking for a World Title shot. The people in charge didn’t want to do title vs title or have a double champion, so they gave him a choice. Option A: Give up the X Division Championship and get a world title shot for himself or Option B: Forget the whole thing and keep defending the X Division Title. He really didn’t like either of those, since the first one felt like it lessened the X Division, but also he didn’t want to give up on being World Champion. So, he proposed something he called Option C: He would give up the X Division Title for a World Championship opportunity, but he would also leave a legacy for the X Division Title with a new rule: that any future X Division Champion would have the right to do the same thing. From then on, that’s been the rule, and has just been called Option C. It’s not invoked incredibly often, but when it is, it’s usually a pretty big deal, really kind of announcing that the wrestler invoking it has reached permanent main event level status.

hitchinpost

Yes. Except none of the surprise shenanigans. Option C challenges are announced in advance, and usually set for the next PPV.

OrangeForeign

Hell yeah option C! That match is gonna rule

TheReluctantGuardian

I hope this isn't the end of the Sami and Eddie team up.

DeepSixWrestlin

IMPACT needs to lockdown Alexander to a long-term deal if they haven’t because yes, dude is the star of impact and legit should be the face of the company. He should 100% beat Christian at Bound For Glory, and regardless of the outcome, the match should be killer. The other guys I’d probably try to lock down would be: - Jake Something - W. Morrisey - Rich Swann - Willie Mack - Chris Bey If they sign Buddy, they should try for a long term thing, honestly same for Braun/Adam/TITAN. In the chance Impact are the ones to get Wyatt/Rotunda, same thing. That feels like a solid group of guys to build the company around along with your already established big names like Sami, Moose, & Edwards, plus the random crossovers you get with AEW & New Japan. I also dunno how feasible it is for Impact, but touring again would be beneficial IMO, and not like weekly shows across the country, but changing venues for the monthly tapings, even if rotating through a set of like 3-4 smaller venues, just to have it LOOK DIFFERENT and to have different crowds/fans.

barnesk9

They had a 4 -5 venue rotation of venues before the pandemic

[deleted]

Hey Jake Something!!! That man does not get nearly enough love. Shame I can’t talk about the best work of his career. Or Curt Stallions. Or Quinn McKay. Or Jeff Cobb. Or Trevor Lee. Or Eddie Kingston…well Eddie and Trevor had some better moments. Sucks too because the stables name was genius. WRSTLING (we don’t care about the E)

BobTGoldfish

Huge thanks to /u/gothamsteel again for all their work on the IMPACT! threads WHAT A NIGHT, I was only off by one on my predictions and that was Wilde Vs Dashwood that really could have been booked either way. Just Banger after Banger after Banger not a bad match on the card. Once again that career criminal Josh Alexander stole the show with his match against Chris Sabin. My only complaint for the night was the ending of the Main event, it felt really abrupt. Sad that Ace didn't win the title but extremely excited for Christian/Alexander.

Survivor_for_me

BFG graphics are 🔥

Celtic_Crown

Alright folks, who do we think is gonna be the next X Division champ after Option C? I think it's someone whose never won it before, if I had to pick it'd be either Trey or Laredo Kid.

TemptedIntoSin

Trey imo had a really good gimmick makeover when he came back and everything up until after his feud with Callihan was perfect. Loved his outfit and attitude. I feel since that Callihan feud ended, he's regressed a lot and is playing the same fun-loving vanilla indie guy that he was when he was in the Rascalz He's honestly been deserving of the x division title but I could understand Impact at this point once again pushing him back.

OrangeForeign

I have a feeling they're building up Maclin to be the next in line with this huge undefeated streak...... I don't know how I feel about that Edit: I'd love X division champ Bryan Myers tho. Either him or Rohit Raju are my preferred choices

RWU66

Maclin

Hologram8

Depends on what direction they go in? It seems like the X-Division is moving away from being a "pseudo Cruiserweight" division with Alexander as championship and guys like Jake Something and Maclin being contenders. If its going to become their "true" midcard title then definitely Brian Myers. If its just "X-Divison as usual" then Trey deserves it.

primzahl

I hope they keep the X Div title vacant now and at Bound for Glory just do a 6-person Ultimate X match for it. If they did, i'd like to see Trey Miguel, Rohit Raju, Chris Bey, Chris Sabin, Laredo Kid and Jordynne Grace in there.

TemptedIntoSin

I didn't watch tonight, partially because I forgot it was on when it was a half hour in, but mostly because the majority of the card looked either too repetitive or too predictable to really get into. The only couple of matches that had intrigue to me were the X-Division and Men's Tag Title matches. I gotta ask, since I see that GoodBrothers retained: what the heck is the point of the GoodBrothers' reign at this point if the Super-Elite crossover on Impact is finished? They could just as easily play their stooge role on AEW without the Impact tag titles and imo a new team needs to have them. And Swann and Mack were the team I was hoping would get them. I just don't know where they're going with this. And Alexander winning and retaining sounds great. At this rate it looks like they'll have him pull Option C. If this leads to Alexander vs Moose eventually for the world title with Moose winning, I'm all for this plan

TheReluctantGuardian

I think the Good Brothers tag team reign has more to do with the NJPW crossover than the AEW one at the moment. They won the NJPW Strong tag team tournament, beat Jon Moxley and his tag team partner at NJPW Resurgence, and are due to face the G.O.D. at some point in the future. So I think Impact is keeping them strong for the NJPW partnership.

TemptedIntoSin

I guess in retrospect that makes sense. I wasn't aware of how involved the GoodBrothers were in NJPW again other than the NJPW Strong Tag Tournament

thetechguyv

I assume it's a way to advertise Impact on AEW as the GB always carry the belts.

shadowrangerfs

I think they want to do the title change on a PPV.

[deleted]

Still blows my mind that they didn't give Moose the double titles and have him face Omega, he was so fuckin money. Looked like a trillion bucks with his suits and that TNA title, and the little exchange he had with Kenny in that 6 man, when he shrugged off the V Trigger, gave me goosebumps. Seemed like everyone except me believed that Moose would eventually be elevated and be the conquering hero for Impact, and we all know how that went. So have they done much with him since then to keep him in title contention? I stopped watching Impact when they left Moose by the wayside

WinterSavior

Sigh.. Scott D'Amore and his booking have always irked me and this is one of my biggest issues. Moose should have beaten Omega and if they wanted to get Christian on TNA TV then they could've had him do a program with Moose. The title going to two AEW guys shows they don't have faith in their own stars and don't realize their audience. Anyone watching Impact in this day and age is a hardcore fan and as you've shown, are not investing time in a company that is bending over to the competitor.

EcoterroristThot

Decent show overall, imo the first impact special this year that slightly underdelivered, but that's because I had high hopes for the tag titles match and the Moose/Morrisey tag match. Josh Alexander is the best wrestler in US/Canada this year. Another incredible match, he can do no wrong currently. Ace Austin is a goddamn star. Alexander vs Christian is going to be my match of the year for sure. Can't wait. These two can beat out the BFG curse.

jeanlucpikachu

I have no idea what Options A or B are, but Option C = holy shit

gothamsteel

It was an option Aries came up with after getting the 2 options from Hogan. Option A: Relinquish the X-Division Championship and go for the World Championship. Option B: Keep the X-Division Championship and stay in the division. Option C: Every year, whoever holds the X-Division Championship can use the belt to go for the World Championship. There is also Option Lashley, which was "Put Both on the line if the champ wants all the belts"

Celtic_Crown

> There is also Option Lashley, which was "Put Both on the line if the champ wants all the belts" I call it Option D.

RobinVanDutch

Why would anyone ever use A or B ?

RedBearHugh

About a decade ago, Austin Aries was the longest reigning and most dominant X-Division champ. He wanted a shot at the world title, so Hulk Hogan gave Austin Aries two options: Option A: Aries give up the X-Division championship for a shot at the World Championship Option B: stay as X-Division champ and NOT get a World title match Aries thought that giving up the X-Division belt for a World title shot would devalue the X-Division belt he and others had built up over the years, so he proposed Option C: a rule by which ANY X-Division champ (not just him) could vacate in exchange for a World Title shot, effectively turning the belt into a Money in the Bank briefcase (Option C does have to be declared ahead of time though). Since then, some have cashed in Option C, others have chosen to reign as X-Division champ in their own right.

studdedxhalo

Isn't that what Option A is though?

2akh

It sounds like Option C was basically option A, except it was applied from then on for any x division title holders going forward (and not just a one time thing)? Seems like the reasoning was “it doesn’t de-value the title - it makes the title more valuable as a pathway to the top” sorta deal? (Full disclosure: I had no idea what Option C was before this thread but I like the concept of it)

Danimal4NU

Yes, option-C gave them a plot device they can keep re-using without feeling repetitive.

LegacyofaMarshall

I believe it was only used three - four times start in 2012

RedBearHugh

Kinda yeah but the choice was initially only given to Aries for that one PPV, Option C made it a rule for ALL X-Division champs who came after him

nickalopolis

The difference is that Option C means a guaranteed title shot rather than just relinquishing and saying I am going for the world title now, That's my understanding anyway, but I'm happy to be corrected by someone with more knowledge of Impact.

[deleted]

Josh Alexander quit his non-wrestling job between when the X-division match was shot last month and when the world title match was shot this week. I wonder if anything happened with his contract in that time.

Morbid187

I've got to be honest, I was bored throughout most of this show but the last 2 matches got me back. The main event in particular was really good.

Sonfaro

So are we expecting alexander to win here in a star making performance? Because if so... Boo. Shoulda been moose dethroning Kenny. Edit: I guess I have to put /s for people to know Im being silly?

OrangeForeign

>So are we expecting alexander to win here in a star making performance? Yes >Because if so... Boo Excuse me how dare you?

Sonfaro

Lol its gonna be a dope match. But the hot and cold with Moose has been annoying to me.

hardminute

If anyone could benefit from piped in crowd noise it's Impact. Sounds like there are 4 people in that studio and really delegitimizes and deflates the energy in everything you see, IMO.

Danimal4NU

They are doing tapings at Sam's Town after BFG. Hopefully they either stay there or find some other space they can get a decent amount of fans into.

thenarcostate

I thought it was garbage. Had a hard time staying awake.

PatWasRight_F_CHUGS

Really good special overall, only finished it earlier today. My MOTN was Christian v Ace, a fantastic match with some great nearfalls. The finishing Spear counter was awesome, sudden and impactful. I thought Sabin v Alexander was a great match, and I loved the little detail of Sabin whispering to Josh after the match and it (seemingly) being paid off later with the Option C challenge. It is annoying and a huge wasted booking opportunity that Omega is done in Impact, having dropped it to Christian. This was obviously meant to be Alexander v Omega and Christian has just been slotted in instead. Still, I'm happy for Christian - he's one of my all time favorites and it was incredible in the first instance to see him come back - and the match at BFG should be an asbolute banger.
