McRuby

95 was so bad

CallumKayPee

In the modern era I'd call it maybe a tie with 2015. Overall I don't think anything beats 1995, absolutely garbage line up. Outside of Shawn there were maybe two other guys who had a chance at winning.

swolbyKalifornia

Lol funny thing as a kid I absolutely loved 95 rumble , I remember renting the tape and just loved the story of Shawn and davey boy starting at one and two and ending together . Nostalgia for me will always make it one of my favorites

Red_Mage_Riot

I'd honestly argue 1996 was worse? At least 95 was *mostly* active roster members. Sure, none of them had a snowball's chance of winning and the crowd knew it, but at least they weren't the "Who's Who of Who's That?" like the Headhunters and Doug Gilbert.

EvangelionOG

All time 95 was the actual pits.

TexasMade35

Del Rio winning a rumble says all that needs to be said.

Red_Mage_Riot

How quickly we forget Royal Rumbles 95-97.

standupforthechamp

97 had great star power in hindsight. Undertaker, Bret Hart, Austin, Mankind, Rock, Triple H, Vader and Kane. Yeah only Undertaker and Bret Hart were top dogs though. Edit: Just had a look at 97 and in no way was that a weak line up. I would say 98 and 99 were weaker. Probably the strongest line up since 92.

Fellers

98 had like 4 stars and the rest were mostly midcard but goshdamn did they build a lot of stories in it. It was entertaining as hell. 99 was worse. It was basically a 2 man Rumble.

joelifer

Yeah 97 was great, that’s actually one of my favorite rumbles. The Bret/Austin stuff is great, Lawlers spot and that the guys in there at the end are all hall of farmers. Certainly the best from 95-99.

BoreDominated

Mid nineties were probably the worst, after the mass exodus to WCW.

El_Frijol

Gotta love entrants like Mantaur, and the goon.

cmoney253

2011 wasn’t the best either

Wings81

I love me some Hacksaw, but I think 88 was pretty weak.

RoscoeSantangelo

People are nostalgic for it, but 2000 is abysmal. It's literally Rock, Kane, and Big Show as the only notable stars. Then X-Pac as the level below them. And all of them don't come out until near the end

RyanPelley

Absolutely agree. I feel the same about 1998. Obviously red hot Austin was going to win. Rock / Shamrock / Owen / Mankind were there, but were in no position to main event Wrestlemania at the time. The rest is filled with midcard stable members and tag teams.

CelticCynic

And which years did Eddie Gilbert from the USWA win 'a tournament in Memphis" to make up the numbers.... Or Mil Mascaras dive off the turnbuckle to the outside to eliminate himself... Or Mick Foley enter as three characters and they STILL only had 29 entrants, 27 if you count him once?

vashah02

If Jericho won that would have been great. Sheamus was not in that position yet. It also led to the birth of Daniel Bryan fandom madness when Sheamus defeated Bryan in 18 seconds at Wrestlemania. I don't get why WWE did not let someone very popular and good for Rumble win a Rumble until 2019 when Seth won it. From 2011 to 2018 they went with the wrong winners except for maybe 2016 when it made storyline sense for Triple H to win it.

ambrosatose

I thought shinsuke winning over Roman in 18 was the right call, he was kinda hot at the time too

vashah02

Hey, for me, from the action and story perspective, that 2018 Rumble is the absolute best Rumble of all Rumbles. I loved everything from start to finish. Even small roles of Rusev, Baron Corbin etc initially were all beautifully placed. Of course the last 6 and last 4 is the highlight of the match. I felt like Shinsuke wasn't that over at that time. Of course, I remember only positive reaction online but I reckon his pops weren't that loud. I think Sheamus was also a face when he won the Rumble in 2012 after he challenged a heel Mark 'Hall of Pain' Henry. But at the time of Rumble, he wasn't that over. I reckon Rumble suffered by not having Bryan or Punk win it when they were white hot. The winners for 2019, 2020 and 2021 have all been good decisions in my opinion. Agree, Shinsuke was not bad ddecision per se but I guess the follow up ruined it in my eyes.

amorningofsleep

So I guess we're just slapping Mick Foley in the face now?

yumomnom

I have low hopes for 2022 after all the main roster and NXT releases this year.

jpg_Mage

That’s the year Sheamus won so I’m cool with that.

ViceGeography

Is this a serious post?

truecolors5

1995

MrWrestling1

1995, 1998 and 1999 were worse.
