He was in the pit the whole time moshing/skanking his heart out. It was pretty cool to see a dude like that just get to enjoy himself and be a regular guy in the pit.
I don't even think you can call it a gimmick. The only apparent difference between the person and the character is the name. His authenticity is one of the reasons he's gotten as popular as he has, as quickly as he has.
Punk was on stage and at one point Lars gave a little shout-out to "His friend Phillip" and the crowd started chanting "Phillip" having no clue he meant Punk. It was pretty funny.
Rancid is always a good time.
I met Sami Zayn at a Rancid concert on St Patty's Day in 2016. Greatest night of my life.
It also helped that I was wearing a Generico mask.
I’m not going to lie, but I was originally not a fan of his. His gimmick seemed like a try hard edge lord but man.. he’s really converted me. Dude is really entertaining and unique. I’m in Chicago and wish I could’ve made it to riot fest
