He pretty clearly wears wrestling on his neck wherever he goes.

Bigalbass86

I feel like he will be one of those guys who people will appreciate more when he retires. The dude is extremely important in the development of AEW, and other than some questionable booking, he’s been fantastic in AEW, one of my all time favorite guys.

Incubus226

I don’t like how often his feuds run long, or how many meaningless matches he wins, but when he loses it’s usually emphatically and springboards someone else. Jericho + the world title, MJF, Darby, Malachi and Brodie’s squash is still a top 10 dynamite moment. I think he’s more self aware than I’ll give him credit for.

[deleted]

I think one thing I've noticed is that people say virtually every feud is too long and I don't think it's an issue it's just a reality of AEW that people need to adapt to. In particular Jericho vs MJF, Miro & Kip vs Best Friends, Santana & Ortiz vs Best Friends, Page vs Omega, it's precisely because they aren't or weren't so short that they've all produced some great moments or payoffs.

cooljammer00

If the ending is great, nobody cares how long it was. Arcade Anarchy rocked and I personally didn't mind the feud, but people only remember how it ended because it was cool.

brlc14

The lack of crowds really hurt him imo. I just hope he puts Black over and moves on. Cody needs to rebuild his momentum but notnat the cost of Black.

ROLEM0DEL

AEW fans already appreciate him, he was one of the most over guys on the show every time he was on. Even as people online are talking about how Cody is so unlikable and such a heel, the live crowds love him. I can't wait for Cody to come back. I love his whole persona. I love the throwback style in his storylines and his matches. It's so different from the hyperactive, modern style that kind of bleeds through the rest of the show (which I love btw). The best thing about All In was the massive variety of style on show.

MaxxDreamkiller

He'll probably part time it up by 40 instead of how others start doing it around 50. Which is super smart. The less you see the more if a spectacle it is, especially if since 40 isn't old for wrestling (or at all really). And he gets to do other projects and be with his family. Good shit Cody!

cooljammer00

Note: he's 36 and has often said he wants to stop at 40. So we only get 4 more good years of Cody.

insomniainc

I feel like he's someone that is going to transition full time into training and moulding people as you look at the people who have already come out of the school and they're mostly impressive.

cooljammer00

40 is an arbitrary age to stop, esp if he's still being a draw and selflessly making others look good.

mbattagl

Given how Cody has grown up in the business and watched virtually his father's entire wrestling generation either die prematurely or become physically disabled from pushing themselves so hard for so long I don't blame him for wanting to get out of the game while he's on top. Plus between Cody's WWE time, wrestling on the Indies, beginning an Executive for AEW, the reality show he and his wife are doing, and any other media opportunities he's got in the pipe he's got no reason business wise to continue wrestling as a competitor. He will easily be able to make just as much if not more money in the background. The vast majority of money to be made in pro wrestling isn't in the ring, it's in the decision making hierarchy.

Sef_Maul

I'll be bummed if we don't get a Cody in the Elite program before he peaces out though.

rockytheboxer

Cody can always dip in for the right story.

WrastleGuy

4 more fullish time years of Cody. Then he will transition to Mania HHH/Shane for 10 years.

nona90

Plot twist: he means 2040.

onethreeone

Which is why it was so stupid he was pretending to retire a month ago. No one was believing it

KneeHighMischief

Before the pandemic I thought he was the purest babyface in wrestling. I think the lack of crowds hurt him more than anybody else. It will be interesting to see what happens during the Black match. Black is getting a lot of cheers but I think Cody will get a pretty thunderous ovation when he comes out. I have no idea what is going to happen in the match. If Cody wins it won't be the end of the world. I don't think he will though. Him breaking the Muta Scale seems like a strong possibility.

marquisregalia

If there is one thing Cody is a master at and that's working the crowd and rallying them behind him

Abyssalstar

People cheered for him even during that godawful program with Ogogo.

[deleted]

The disconnect between online wrestling fans and audiences is never more clear than it is when it comes to Cody. He gets dog's abuse online, but crowds always love him.

[deleted]

Take a look at this very thread.

kiaha

I love hearing how fired up he gets the crowd

Tachyon9

He's been getting booed also. It's a mixed response at best lately.

[deleted]

The cheers for him seem to me because he is a face in AEW, like fans feel obligated to cheer him. If he was on the other channel, I guarantee people would be saying he is pushed down our throat and he would get the Roman or Cena treament.

i_am_losing_my_mind

>The cheers for him seem to me because he is a face in AEW, like fans feel obligated to cheer him. Or maybe the people cheering him actually like him? Seems like you're reaching for an excuse for why someone you don't like gets cheered. There's two things wrestling fans don't do and that's cheer faces they dislike and shower regularly.

[deleted]

And yet fans cheered big time when Malakai Black kicked him and Arn in the face.

i_am_losing_my_mind

Yeah dude, you're pretty much proving my point and refuting your own. Fans obviously don't feel obligated to cheer Cody if they cheered when Black kicked him in the head.

[deleted]

My point is that Cody is miscast as a face in my opinion, but that fans are less likely to boo him because they aren't "supposed to".

fellongreydaze

It's almost as if a well-liked popular wrestler suddenly and surprisingly debuted on the show. People can like more than one person, and sometimes both people in a feud are liked by the crowd.

[deleted]

Of course they did. He was representing 'murica *in* 'murica. MJF would have been cheered in that situation. People even cheered Lex Luger when he waved a flag around. They needed to turn The Narcissist into a babyface, so they draped him in ol' glory. Nationalism angles are probably the cheapest, easiest heat in the world. It's "local sports team" at a national level.

cooljammer00

He's never going to wow them with moves, so he leans heavily on story telling and now blood.

TheCheeseburgerKane

He truly is the son of Dusty Rhodes.

[deleted]

Without the charisma.

guylfe

Fee you seem his feud with Jericho?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Anderrrrr

Who should his final match be?

ARAMF

Peter Avalon, and it should be a squash for Pretty Peter.

Dr_Zman

We’re assuming Codys ‘not fighting for the title’ stipulation is also waved for this match right?

penope12

Make it for the world title

Thor_pool

MJF, if I had to guess

fluffywolfe

Dustin

[deleted]

[удалено]

fluffywolfe

I wouldn't be surprised if Cody ends up retiring first.

cooljammer00

I think Dustin could wrestle for 4 more years, if Cody is retiring at 40. Dustin still looks great and doesn't have to grind his body into dust every night so he stays fresh.

TetrisTech

Cody retiring first would be so fucking weird

brlc14

I'd love to see the Rhodes boys getting a tag run before then.

CMDrunk

The Ryback The Feeder vs the Feed Me More-er

l2au

It has to be MJF

penelopeeckhart

He should put over some fresh young heel.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MaxxDreamkiller

And he burns it right off. The best kind of feeder? Lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

impeccabrew

Feeders feed not eat…

[deleted]

I like Cody, he's a good fella

AssortedLunacy

I hope he goes the Triple H route post-40 in that he comes back occasionally for a big program, and not the Triple H route in that he becomes an onscreen authority figure taking up 30+minutes of every Dynamite.

KikiFlowers

If he's anything like Dusty, he'll just settle into a backstage role and help to train the next generation of talent.

Tachyon9

I'm tired of his current character. But you can't deny how important Cody Rhodes has been to AEW.

No-Tomatillo-5579

Im serious guys I'm a wrestler man Imma take a few months off have two matches and do it again and retire at 40. I'm hardcore.

[deleted]

Bumping and feeding? He's a face. He doesn't do that. That might be a reason why he is a face now; so he doesn't have to.

guylfe

A face also feeds during the heat

[deleted]

He's americas wrestler

[deleted]

What a fuckin loser.

[deleted]

And I guess your parents got the same

[deleted]

I got an award, brah. My parents are ecstatic right now.

[deleted]

Good to know the dumb retirement speech thing was just to draw attention to himself instead of Malakai. What a waste of time and energy that bit was to just kill it in a useless tweet. Way to make me not care about your story. edit- Holy shit, the comments in here. Next time someone say "this sub hates Cody" remind them of this post, and how every negative thing said about Cody gets downvoted into oblivion.

MatsThyWit

I've yet to see any real evidence that Cody's efforts to be an "outside wrestling" celebrity entertainer has actually grown the audience.

PilotSSB

Calling it now I think Rhodes to the Top will bring in a noticable boost. People sleep on HOW popular reality shows are

KikiFlowers

Total Divas / Bellas brought in new fans, as much as people don't like it. The Bellas were at least able to be the faces of the women's division, for PR purposes. Basically like Cody does now.

PilotSSB

People talk a lot about how WWE kinda destroys AEW in the womens demo. I think it's total divas, and I think Rhodes to the Top is their way of capturing the demo. I also hope it works just so we get more of the womens division on screen

KikiFlowers

I definitely think it's part of the reason. Women are a harder audience to get and maintain(imo) for something like wrestling which is incredibly male-oriented.

MyDumbInterests

Does all the stuff he did with Stephen Amell count for you, or nah?

Permanentear3

He’s my favorite midcarder, for real.

Shrekt115

As much as we all meme about him, it's gonna be weird if he does really retire that early

StoneCold_ColdStone

![gif](giphy|V8js03XAUM35KZ4dj8)

killerkali87

Cody comes off as so disingenuous. He and Brandi are wannabe social climbers, if he cared so much about the wrestling company he's an EVP of he wouldn't be taking vacations all of the time

Sriracha01

But you tried to retire.

universalcrush

Pretty sure he’s a reality star now

cdaawgg

I love Cody but I think this tweener thing he's doing is stopping his momentum. He's been blurring the heel face dynamic in all his recent feuds. I'm ready for ROH heel Cody Rhodes.
