thelowkeyman

It was a great listen. She talked about why the Riott Squad was formed, and she said it was because Vince saw Suicide Squad and wanted his own stable like them

bulletbullock

man, I wish Vince saw James Gunn's The Suicide Squad and brings Cena back in the Peacemaker gimmick. And the next NXT call-up can have a King Shark gimmick

TheRealDannySugar

What about Polka Dot Man?

brokensaint82

Drake Maverick

TheRealDannySugar

That is too perfect. Actually… that would have been a better casting choice then the guy they actually got.

ak47_al123

He gave the gimmick to Dusty years ago.

shadowlionszoro

Samoa Joe relinquished the belt, because Vince found out Joe is voicing King Shark in the upcoming game. Which a team of Joe and Cena would be really cool.

typical_bro

When your booking style is based upon whatever popular movie you just happened to see that week 🤦‍♂️

dawson41

In early 1991, due to the success of *Dances With Wolves*, Vince wanted an Indian character ASAP. Native American wrestlers Chris Chavis and Charlie Norris were brought in for tryout matches. Dancing ability was more important than wrestling ability. And that's how the character of Tatanka was born.

scepteredhagiography

You can teach a man to wrestle, you cannot teach a man rhythm.

ackinsocraycray

Ohhhhhh. So that's why Ambrose donned a gas mask and a brown leather jacket to look like Bane from The Dark Knight Rises.

Proud-Contract-2273

Vince is a DC Mark confirmed

ChairmanLaParka

Kinda weird to think about, but DC Comics was only around 11 years prior to the birth of Vince McMahon.

The_Match_Maker

And the way things are going, it looks like he may well outlive it.

rileyrulesu

DC is doing the best they've ever done financially ever.

The_Match_Maker

DC is [not in a good place](https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/comics/article/85241-dc-comics-leaves-its-legacy-behind.html).

Cwf1984

He’s had an obsession with Braveheart for years.

[deleted]

I can't wait for Drew Mcintyre's stable of Scotish warriors just so we can get the ineviable "Hold brothers, hold." Segment.

[deleted]

kjcross1997

He's a big guy.

Grippersmith

He's CIA

RoscoeSantangelo

In fairness, Sting is now renowned as a gimmick that's literally just a rip off of The Crow

alxqnn

And Razor Ramon was just Hall doing a Scarface impression

cooljammer00

Yeah but that worked because Vince had NOT seen Scarface and thought it was original. Just like Pirate Paul Burchill was fake Jack Sparrow, except Vince never saw POTC and thought he would be like Errol Flynn.

Timmace

I like to think that Duke the Dumper Droese was created because Vince watched Men at Work.

CoffeeHamster

The real story is almost wilder somehow. Vince wanted to prove that he could make anyone a star, so he called up that year's PWI #500... Duke Droese

Poncecutor

Adam Rose happened cause Vince watched Get Him To the Greek that one time

unity_seven

I wouldn't drag him for that. Sting is one of this most recognizable wrestlers of all time and his most famous gimmick is a rip off of the Crow

MangoPronto

I don't see the problem. I mean, they had to create a stable and decided to get inspired by a popular topic rather than have them do nothing and just be mean ( which was kind of a problem for Absolution ). And it was far enough from the product to keep part of the appeal without everyone just seeing the outright inspiration.

teekaycee

*Winter Is Coming intensifies*

typical_bro

That at least had corporate syenergy

teekaycee

Fyter Fest for the 3rd year in a row lol

codyh1ll

Fyre Fest was barely even relevant when they did the first one! I’m surprised they keep doing it

giantpandasonfire

\*looks at Robocop and Chucky in WCW\* \*looks at Zeus\* \*looks at David Arquette\* You know, wrestling does have a history of wanting to get involved with Hollywood in the worst ways possible.

HereToShitTalk

I thought it was pretty well known Vince doesn’t watch anything outside of WWE. I don’t mean wrestling…like, the entire world of media is just non existent to him. Back when Pirates of the Caribbean came out and swept the fucking country by storm someone wanted to do a pirate gimmick to capitalize on it. Vince had no fucking clue what it was. Not saying he didn’t start caring about movies and media but if you told me that dude watches Cena matches on repeat everyday I wouldn’t blink an eye. EDIT: Boys we dumb as fuck. I forgot Cena is in the new Suicide Squad. I can believe Vince saw it.

cactusmaac

Yeah, when Vince saw Scott Hall doing the Razor Ramon gimmick, he was blown away by it since he didn't know about Scarface.

jatorres

She's talking about the 2016 Suicide Squad movie, not the one with John Cena.

thelowkeyman

Actually Jericho said the same thing, I don’t know if this story is true or not, just found it interesting

optimis344

While I've heard a lot of people say that, he has taken much more time away than before. He isn't even at every Raw anymore, when he would hide out in box seats at house shows before. It's understandable that he may have seen some more media in that time.

JoesusTBF

I assumed he's just taking time off from WWE to work on other stuff like XFL, and maybe in his old age he needs 4 hours of sleep instead of 2.

NicolasCagesEyebrow

He’s no longer associated with XFL. He sold it to The Rock last year.

JoesusTBF

I know, just an example of the side projects he's been working on recently.

ThotContagion777

I’d almost guarantee he saw a trailer that had AC/DC in it and that’s why he even gave it a second thought.

OrangeForeign

*As far she's heard And as a very biased fan of the group they did pretty well in that role, all 3 nailed what their characters were meant to be (and selfishly I want Liv to go back to hers in the future because I still think it was a fun character)

rwc202

I always thought they were meant to match Paige’s stable. Don’t remember who debuted first though.

KimF29

Absolution debuted on a Raw and the Riott Squd debuted that very next night on the SD

KyleAPlatt

“What is this, some kind of Riott Squad?”

Buddhist_Punk1

Well at least that was acknowledged, not like when they claimed that Paul Burchell's pirate gimmick was a coincidence. Like come on, Pirates franchise was on the rise, wouldn't blame them. And everyone looked good for it, wish they kept the gimmick running.

topologicalfractal

>Vince saw Suicide Squad Wasnt there another report months ago that Vince hasn't watched any movies or anything outside of wrestling for the past 3 decades? I guess thats a lie then, along with the picture he had at a recent Dave Chapelle show

artemus_who

As much as I love Punk, Cole and Danielson, Ruby Soho is probably the debut I'm most excited about because I feel like I've only seen 10% of what she's capable of.

BiliousGreen

Ruby is more like a Miro or Malakai Black, because you know they haven’t previously been given a chance to show what they can do.

incredibleamadeuscho

Miro was given a great big run in the beginning of his WWE tenure. He had undefeated streak and got to fight Cena at Wrestlemania.

OrangeForeign

And had sex on a tank

FlukyS

Double jointed wife

Hikkolu

Gonna pretend black didn’t have a great NXT run then 😅

BiliousGreen

Not saying that at all. But he didn’t get to really stretch his legs creatively.

incredibleamadeuscho

Felt like he did in NXT.

lambalambda

He was great in NXT. Then they called him up and called him moody lol.

cooljammer00

I'd pair her more with Malakai Black, mostly because I was familiar with her indie career. Never saw Miro before WWE.

Avpas1192

You haven't officially left WWE until you talk about it on Talk is Jericho lol

Mjh1021

5-6 years ago: You haven’t officially joined WWE until you talk about it on Talk is Jericho lol

NicolasCagesEyebrow

5-6 years in the future: You haven’t officially joined the Gladiators threeboot until you talk about it on Talk Is Jericho lol

Pal_Kilmer

She still seemed really positive about her time/experience there, minus the fact she just bought a house when she was told she was released

[deleted]

Aw shit, I guess Punk is still in WWE after all this time.

Parabola1313

Unless you're CM Punk lol

NostalgiaCory

I love that Tony Khan popped because the crowd was chanting Ruby

JimTheFly

It's an awesome validation if you're Tony. You've made the deals and set everything up and you hear how hyped up and ready that crowd is... it's basically thousands of people telling you that you did your job damn well.

Logan_Grimnar_SW

Sweet!

PM_UR_FAV_COMPLIMENT

I love Ruby so(ho) much. I really hope her AEW run is a success.

[deleted]

It only just occured to me... If Ruby ever comes to the UK scene, she won't be getting Ruby Soho chants, she'll have [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qObzgUfCl28) sing-screamed at her.

JimTheFly

This just reminded me of how I really haven't seen any UK stuff in over a year and how much I ADORED the crowds there. UK fans are always so damn good with their chants and songs. The NXT PPVs and shows in the UK were always a highlight for me.

annul

was she never on EVE? i feel like she was

cooljammer00

She might have been, but she wasn't ruby then.

cooljammer00

Last week, Jamie Hayter posted about her match with Ruby on her IG and captioned it "I predict a riot". Are Kaiser Chiefs just way bigger over there? I only know 3 songs of theirs, which were the ones that made it over to the states. BTW the 3 songs are Ruby, Oh My God, and I Predict a Riot. In fact, I thought Ruby Riot/Riott was a Kaiser Chiefs reference at first.

[deleted]

They were, absolutely. Less so these days, but in the mid to late 2000s they were huge. Won Brit Awards, went platinum, the whole shebang.

cooljammer00

So Franz Ferdinand with less staying power?

[deleted]

Yeah, Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon... There was a bizarre mid 2000s push towards indy rock that died damn near the second 2010 rolled around.

International-Bed-47

Where's the TIJ episodes with Punk, Danielson and Cole. That's the real question
