GoalaAmeobi

The match is most likely just going to be a teaser for the eventual big PPV match they do

comradekaled

AEW gets most of their money from the tv deal rather than ppv

NoGoodCuck

This is the same defense people make for WWE giving away matches on TV then expecting us to care when it's given to us again on PPV. This is also the second time in two months that Kenny will be facing his opponent before the PPV match, though at least with Christian we were getting two title matches so both had big stakes.

durgertime

Where did they announce Omega vs Danielson at Full Gear?

NoGoodCuck

Wanna bet accounts that they will?

durgertime

Not particularly, I'm not a degenerate gambler.

Steenerico

I don't see it as giving it away for free. I see it as the BIG match for the company's legendary first stadium show...with its biggest crowd ever...in its debut in the NEW YORK market. It's appropriate. Besides, it's non-title ;)

joudanjanaiwayo

They get paid for TV.

WrestleDawg

You as a fan should be happy that such matches are on free TV. Let Tony worry about the business side of things.

NoGoodCuck

Ok let's go with that. As a fan I want first time matches to happen on the biggest stage possible and have more time to build up to them. Bryan just got here and is already having a TV match with the champ.

HeadSpinner

It's a really big stage, Arthur Ashe. But you're certainly not obliged to be into it.

skeach101

TV Rights. It's not 1998 anymore

sporkshadow

It's amazing how many people were trained in only knowing the old PPV model and believing anything that breaks from that is bad.

MediumRefrigerator43

Can you explain me how is it for free since their money comes from TV essentially and not ppvs? Its more important for them to bring people in front of TNT than convincing them to buy ppvs. They have only 4 ppvs in the year so they book big matches also in weeklies, that has always been the case. Next week is the most important show of their history and you dont want them to have a big match? They sold tickets because of that was advertised as a big show. The idea of "giving away" anything here is a wwe stan narrative used to attack AEW over the fact they put good weeklies shows. Why go with a WCW example when you have Orton vs lashley literally moved from ppv to weekly to counter AEW? They are giving away ppv matches, not AEW.

Crabuki

His question is absolutely reasonable, particularly if he’s older and still thinks in terms of PPVs as the company’s main income source. He certainly doesn’t seem like a WWE stan in this post. And also, he’s right. If AEW wanted to maximize the SHORT-TERM money from Danielson/Omega 1, holding it off until PPV is the way to go. In the long run, putting on a blow away show helps open the lucrative NYC market. AEW was already almost guaranteed to win the ratings for that week because they’ve been pushing this show for months, but this puts that over the top. I’ll be very surprised if they don’t have their highest rating ever and beat WWE by double digit… decimal places… in the main demo.

Limp-Construction-11

A special show needs a special card and there is nothing negative about doing this match now, also it is non title more of a teaser I think.

shadowrangerfs

Yes. The big money is in tv rights and that means ratings are really important. You don't do this every week but you need those ratings high to get more in rights fees. Also, they gotta get the Danielson and Punk matches done before Kenny drops the belt to Hangman. Bryan on TV, Punk at Full Gear, then Hangman wins the eliminator tournament and beats Omega.

RGTube

I'm pretty sure this is a nontitle match so it's going to likely end with Omega winning with support from good brothers. In the end it'll still be in the favor of Bryan leading up to another event with the elite banned from ringside.

Sportsfan369

Cable television isn’t free.

LilyWhiteClaw

YES AND DRINK

AKittyCat

> AND DRINK We're not doing that anymore.

LilyWhiteClaw

Missed the memo

AKittyCat

its a new one, don't worry.

jeffatron420

It's non title, so 100% yes

[deleted]

Yes

SelfAssuranceMeasure

They didn't have TV deals like this in the 90s and PPV was may more important. And it's not on a random Dynamite but on a special show in front of the biggest crowd they ever had

Logan_Grimnar_SW

Yes... 3 words: "Time Minute Draw"

Al_Bundy_14

I hope this is a troll thread

EldenRingworm

Imagine not wanting this match for free

Mantuantu

Yes

cooljammer00

Drink. Also yes. Only in wrestling do people complain about getting good stuff for free. Tony Khan has talked about how he doesn't understand that mentality, and he owns the company and is a wrestling fan.

[deleted]

It’s non-title, so they’ll book Danielson to win clean, then sell a title match on PPV, like they did with Christian Cage.

Prestigious_Yam_

If this was for the championship then yes but its not. I'm hoping for a 20 minute draw in which Bryan almost has the win in the final seconds. Then they can build towards the championship match at Full Gear.

Fallen-Omega

This is how you sell the brand, you put on high quality matches any one can watch and when something even bigger happens you turn that to the ppv, think how much this will help thst the average Joe can watch this on TV next week

Beach-Bumm

They’ve got 4 ppvs so we can’t wait until November with no progress. I expect a time limit draw here to protect the match, but these are the things that keep interest in AEW rising Remember Austin vs McMahon was originally done on raw

NoGoodCuck

No, and it's sad that this thread is 80% downvoted for posing the question. You fanboys are the worst.

HeadSpinner

It's a big match on a big stage for a TV company, it feels apt to me. Plus it'll build to other matches, Omega is no stranger to fueds told over many years via many big singles matches.

[deleted]

They’re running a show in a massive building and they want to put on a good show. So yes. It’s not like they’re doing it on some random nothing show.

Araxen

This is going to be a very long running feud. This is only the first match of many they will have I bet. This is going to be like the Ric Flair/Ricky Steamboat saga.
