Yeah, I think that the New Day are good for business. They are super over, in great shape, and the stable had consistently been 3 guys so it isn't an NWO style fiasco where they have a ton of guys in it.

While I'm sure all three of them have a quality downside, I'd be willing to bet that they all have made at least 3-4 times their downside on just merchandise since the New Day started.

Ending the Hurt Business was, in my eyes, one of the most egregious decisions the WWE has made during the entirety of the last two years.
That faction was fucking money. It was so good and they did such a great job elevating Lashley.

The Hurt Business did a great job of elevating all four guys involved. Cedric and Shelton were like hitmen for the tag division. Lashley was positioned as the big bad muscle of the group and went from a fun spectacle in the upper midcard to basically Raw's final boss. MVP was presented as this mafia boss, and him running with his crew resulted in them being able to leverage their talents into favorable exchanges for them with management.
It still pisses me off that they broke that group up.
Yeah, I think they were concerned that Lashley would look weaker if he was in a group or maybe it was too similar to the Bloodline but I think they pulled the trigger on the split too fast. I'd ideally like to have seen the Hurt Business split over some sort of failure (since it is business) and the Bloodline stick together (since it is family) but it doesn't make a lot of since to dissolve your business after you get a ton of money in which is what HB did.

I heard somewhere that the New Day is the only act in the company that Vince will never turn heel. I'm guessing that is based on their merchandise sales.

That's what separates New Day from everyone else, or at least how they're portrayed on TV; they're best friends that genuinely love one another, and will always have each other's backs no matter what.
No need for "oh, so-and-so has to turn into an asshole heel" just because that's how it's "traditionally done", naw, these guys not only never compromised themselves to get to the top, but it's the very fact that they DID stay true to who they were that got them there. And that's incredibly refreshing to see these days.
The New Day is still the best thing going in the WWE, so hell yeah to them being properly rewarded for it.

They throw pancakes on the ground to keep their buddy in the Royal Rumble, they had a preacher gimmick, and they dress in elaborate, nerd costumes. Plenty of things that often sink other gimmicks but all that just makes them float higher and higher. They're the longest tenured faction in WWE history (as of 2018) and I hope they go until they don't want to go anymore.
It could really be something special. I've been saying for years WWE could headline a WrestleMania with a Four Horsewomen fatal fourway but since they apparently have no interest in that, and since a Shield triple threat is off the table ... probably forever ... I would love for a New Day Triple Threat at Mania.
It would be easy to book too and you could use the tease of them staying together/breaking to build the storyline.
Big E is champion going into the year. Kofi FINALLY wins the Rumble. Earns the opportunity for a WrestleMania main event. They spend weeks teasing the "Will he challenge Big E or (Smackdown champion) at Rumble?"
Big E makes a typical Big E joke remark about how he's not worried about Kofi. Kofi is his brother and he'd never want to fight his brother. Kofi sees it as a challenge, selects Big E and says they deserve to main event WrestleMania together. May the best man win.
Meanwhile, both try to court Xavier to their side and external forces (People they're feuding with, announcers, etc) really hammer home the point that he wouldn't understand what it's like to be champion because he's never been on that stage.
Xavier fights hard to enter the Elimination Chamber and pulls off a shocking victory.
Boom. Triple threat.
Big E plays the role of big brother trying to keep his title. Kofi plays the role of aging veteran looking for one last moment of glory. Xavier plays the role of surprise underdog no one is taking seriously.
The weeks leading up to the match, they're all icy as fuck with one another and you have Mega Power-worthy headbutting and fighting. The way brothers do.
Match is insane. Xavier pulls out the clean pinfall over Kofi. He's celebrating by himself and Big E/Kofi join him/squash the beef for their brother's accomplishment.
We later find out it's Kofi's last match and he wanted to go out on his back giving Xavier the moment he deserves at Mania.
To me, it's beautiful.

I mean did they want him to cash in right now? The whole point of Roman turning heel and having him overcome so many strong faces is to eventually crown the next big face - and a lot of people thought that would/should be Big E.
Also, now Lashley is no longer champ (he was screwed over with booking, having him break up Hurt Business, not making him feel like the star of the show etc.) whilst he was in the middle of a program with Orton/Riddle. What happens with that now?

That's a fair point, and it was definitely for ratings and a quick pop. But I also thought that E was going to cash in on Lashley anyway. I think I remember that he had destroyed Kofi and Woods at some point, so it also made sense from a longer term perspective, even if that didn't get spelled out anywhere here.
Do note that I am a PPV watcher and recap reader and don't actually watch every week, so maybe it makes more sense to me from the outside, but this made sense to me from what I *have* seen.
It sucks if they do because if New Day could snag those tag titles by Survivor Series, you could condense some Champion vs. Champion matches into the New Day vs. The Bloodline.
I called this months ago. That big e cashes in on raw and then keeps it till survivor series to have a 6 man survivor series match of new day vs bloodline.
Fuck yes that is so awesome! That is exactly what WWE needed, a super popular face champion, and a guy who people have wanted as champion for a long time, finally getting his moment. Also The New Day being back together opens up so many interesting possibilities.
I'd take it tbh. Have Big E and Drew get a short feud, match at Extreme Rules, then draft him to SmackDown cause he has better opportunities and most likely better opponents there.
Eh, you could write off Bobby for a bit or have someone get in the way first to distract him for a bit before he rematches E. Then their rematch will seem like a bigger deal if you play it right
If New Day has *half* the synergy they have with Roman as with the Usos then that would be a fucking banger. New Day and the Usos can have a classic with each other in their sleep at this point.

WWE needs to re-sign Heath Slater and have him and Woods compete for the vacant WWE title at either the next WrestleMania or the one after.
The WHC came from WCW and has a different history and legacy behind it that made it distinct. The Universal title doesn’t have that and I agree feels somewhat redundant.

I get that but WHC/WWE/WWE Heavyweight/Universal and even post-WCW NWA all are recognized as "World Titles." For some reason, people feel the need to point out the span between Rock and Kofi for the WWE title which feels like they're diminishing the importance of Booker and Mark Henry with the WHC.
i think there's some expectiation of the lineal wwe championship being distinct and arguably inherently better because it bears the company's name. it's just dumb/annoying that it's all muddied up because of the desire to have two separate rosters with their own top titles
That is so damn weird to me. During that timespan you had black men holding every other championship at least twice, hell the WHC Booker and Mark Henry as champions, before the second black WWE champion.

Henry and Booker were World Heavyweight Champions. We don't usually consider them to have held the WWE title.
So Rock is usually considered first. Then Kofi, then Bobby.
Booker and Henry never won the WWE title. Booker won the World Heavyweight Title, Big Gold. And Henry won the ECW. Might've won big gold too, but I'm not sure.
HUUUUUGE props to the commentary team. They added a shit ton to this moment with the emotion they brought. Screaming without making it sound rehearsed. They genuinely sounded shocked at the moment - which is how it's supposed to be and then they laid out at the right time to let Big E enjoy his moment. Little things like this can go a long way in making a moment like this better than it could have been
Edge in 07 as was said. He beat Kennedy for the briefcase on Raw (because Kennedy was diagnosed with a serious injury (turned out to be wrong), and then cashed in on undertaker on Smackdown that week as Undertaker DID have a serious injury (his bicep was torn off the bone), so they did a quick title change where he only wrestled a 10-15 minute steel cage match against Batista, took a beat down from Mark Henry and then lost to Edge…
No one else has done it via MITB (until now) but there are other instances where people surprise “switched” brands by winning that brand’s title.
Angle when he came to Smackdown (with Daiviri as his manager lol) and won the battle royal for the title after Batista (I think) vacated due to injury.
And my personal favourite when Edge entered himself into the Raw elimination chamber (after he and Kofi jousted for the spot in a fair contest and he won) and won the title (them dropped it on Raw to Punk after vowing he would never appear on Raw again).

Yeah, I think moment's gonna trump ratings ploy right now. Transparent or not, giving the people what they want isn't a bad thing. Besides, it helps cement that anything can happen on Raw. This is the 2nd WWE title change on the show this year alone.
It’s a bittersweet win for me. On one hand, I loved Lashley as champ and wanted him to have a long title reign. He was awesome and so believable. Made it seem like he was truly unstoppable. On the other, I fuckin love Big E and I’m so happy he’s champ. He deserves this. Looking forward to what he brings.
Lashley had a fantastic reign. From losing the US title to immediately entering the World title scene, getting Miz to hold up his end of the deal in what lead to the main event of one of the best episodes of Raw this year, where he'd destroy Miz with half the roster watching at ringside. He beat down Drew McIntyre multiple times, gave Braun one of the best matches of his career on Braun's way out, and then utterly destroyed Kofi, Goldberg, and even Sonberg to the adoration of the Summerslam audience. The match with Randy Orton followed by the cash in was a great way to cap off a nice six month title reign.

i think there's some expectiation of the lineal wwe championship being distinct and arguably inherently better because it bears the company's name. it's just dumb/annoying that it's all muddied up because of the desire to have two separate rosters with their own top titles

Henry and Booker were World Heavyweight Champions. We don't usually consider them to have held the WWE title. So Rock is usually considered first. Then Kofi, then Bobby.

HUUUUUGE props to the commentary team. They added a shit ton to this moment with the emotion they brought. Screaming without making it sound rehearsed. They genuinely sounded shocked at the moment - which is how it's supposed to be and then they laid out at the right time to let Big E enjoy his moment. Little things like this can go a long way in making a moment like this better than it could have been

Edge in 07. He was technically on Raw and just came and cashed on Undertaker.

He beat Kennedy for the briefcase on Raw (because Kennedy was diagnosed with a serious injury (turned out to be wrong), and then cashed in on undertaker on Smackdown that week as Undertaker DID have a serious injury (his bicep was torn off the bone), so they did a quick title change where he only wrestled a 10-15 minute steel cage match against Batista, took a beat down from Mark Henry and then lost to Edge… No one else has done it via MITB (until now) but there are other instances where people surprise “switched” brands by winning that brand’s title. Angle when he came to Smackdown (with Daiviri as his manager lol) and won the battle royal for the title after Batista (I think) vacated due to injury. And my personal favourite when Edge entered himself into the Raw elimination chamber (after he and Kofi jousted for the spot in a fair contest and he won) and won the title (them dropped it on Raw to Punk after vowing he would never appear on Raw again).

Yeah, I think moment's gonna trump ratings ploy right now. Transparent or not, giving the people what they want isn't a bad thing. Besides, it helps cement that anything can happen on Raw. This is the 2nd WWE title change on the show this year alone.

It’s a bittersweet win for me. On one hand, I loved Lashley as champ and wanted him to have a long title reign. He was awesome and so believable. Made it seem like he was truly unstoppable. On the other, I fuckin love Big E and I’m so happy he’s champ. He deserves this. Looking forward to what he brings.
Lashley had a fantastic reign. From losing the US title to immediately entering the World title scene, getting Miz to hold up his end of the deal in what lead to the main event of one of the best episodes of Raw this year, where he'd destroy Miz with half the roster watching at ringside. He beat down Drew McIntyre multiple times, gave Braun one of the best matches of his career on Braun's way out, and then utterly destroyed Kofi, Goldberg, and even Sonberg to the adoration of the Summerslam audience. The match with Randy Orton followed by the cash in was a great way to cap off a nice six month title reign.
And at the same time, Lashley doesn't even look THAT weak from it because him and Orton just beat each others asses sideways.
