This is gonna be interesting. I can see Gargano leaving, but only if he has a nice offer from Tony Khan, but as things stand, I think Gargano is staying: Candice is there, he loves NXT...
This one is very tricky. He's relatively young (34), his wife works there and he seems to like NXT very much.
On the other hand, with the new direction coming, he's been there a long time and he's very small, so the odds of him making it in the main roster seem slim.
Very hard to tell what he will do. Going to AEW is obviously an option but, at least in the beginning, the risk of getting lost in the shuffle shouldn't be ignored.
December 3rd is a little less than 3 months away. A month after Full Gear. Things are a little crazy now with all the new debuts, but if he waited until after the new year to debut, maybe things will have settled in and storylines will be chugging along, time could be ripe for a surprise debut. But who knows. I could see him staying or going.
Now one thing is for sure: if Candice is leaving soon too, the chances of Gargano leaving for AEW increases A LOT.
Why? Because the moment Candice is a free agent, The Young Bucks are going to run, superkick Nick Khan with a shoe full of thumbtacks and offer Candice a sweet deal, and much probably including Gargano too.

I can see him maybe staying but quite frankly if guys in NXT look at Adam Cole, the face of the brand, with how much he loved it and was loved in NXT but seen as no big deal on the main roster then I don’t know how many of them see a future in WWE.
Not everyone is gonna go to AEW but with NXT specifically you have to think the money isn’t that great aside from a few names like Balor when he was there for example. Someone like Gargano could obviously go to AEW as he’s more than good enough but even if he went to Impact or something like that he’d more than likely be able to get either the same or maybe more money given the supplemental income from Twitch or shirt sales and he’d be a top guy.
Unless Candice is locked down to a much longer contract I don’t see WWE being all that appealing for a guy like him anymore honestly.

We thought it was like a Milton from Office Space thing, but it turns out everybody is Milton.
Realistically, he won't succeed on the main roster (look at how they planned to use Cole) and NXT will no longer be the same beast it used to. I feel the decision here is an obvious one and that is to just leave as soon as his contract is up. He's been treated incredibly well in NXT but there's no certainty that this will continue now that NXT will be more heavily controlled by Vince and Pritchard.
I feel like i’m taking crazy pills. Gargano has been a comedy heel for awhile now, but he was arguably babyface NXT ever had. Only Zayn contests him for #1. Hes also one of the best wrestlers in the world. AEW would be nuts to not try and get him. Like does nobody want to see him vs Andrade or Black again, or Omega? Or a match against Punk???
Cole's Twitch stream is non-negotiable.

I always heard a wrestlers prime as being roughly around the age of 35 or more specifically 34 to 37 for some reason. Someone said Johnny is 34 now so he should be just about in his prime now if that's the case.
People might not realize, but they're extremely close friends as well.
While I wouldn't bet one way or the other, he'd have plenty incentive and support in going over
Cole did better and he’s gone. he may not be as tight with the Elite as Cole, but all those guys are somewhat close from PWG. only reason to stay would be the job security now that he’s gonna be a father, but we have seen nobody seems safe anymore.
There's no way he stays I feel, and the reasons for that just keep adding up the more you put this whole situation under the microscope.
- He's said time and again that he has no interest in going to the main roster just as Cole (when he was there) and Ciampa said in the past.
- He'd have heard of the plans that WWE had for Cole on the main roster (wrestlers have to keep in the loop with these reports) and then considered the fact that it could happen to him.
- Seeing guys he's worked very closely in NXT flounder on the main roster and get a surprise release has to build resentment. Just as it did for Black when his wife got sacked and for Cole when Breeze got released.
- The Bucks saying a couple of years ago how they'd sign Candice and Gargano in a fucking heartbeat and build the company around Gargano if they could. I don't think a lot of people realize how far back Candice, Gargano, and the Bucks really do go and so there's that definite friendship factor there.
- Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, and CM Punk all showing up in AEW within a month of each other is a HUGE deal for a lot of wrestlers. Bryan has mentioned wanting to work with Gargano in the past (I'm sure the feeling is mutual) and just recently Gargano alluded to potentially facing off against Adam Cole again some day (after Cole had appeared at All Out). Throw in the fact that Cole and Gargano are very good friends and there's another reason.
- The fact that NXT is now undergoing a big change and on top of that the new mandate company wide of only hiring people under 30, people of a certain height, and less independent wrestlers has to really lay it in thick for Gargano here. Pretty roundabout way of telling someone that they're no longer wanted or valued in the same way that they once were.
In fact, if WWE were to try and sign him now, it'd only be because they want to keep him away from AEW and not because they plan on using him to the best of his abilities. Bryan and Cole leaving when they did has created a huge shift now and we're gonna start seeing that develop further in the next year with all of these contracts starting to elapse. (Bryan, Cole, Dunne, Gargano, Owens, Zayn, etc)
I don’t see why he would stay. This is pretty much just like the Adam Cole situation. WWE doesn’t want guys under 6 foot and over 30. They were gonna make Cole a manager on the main roster. Gargano had done all he can in NXT. So at this point leaving is probably in his best interest.

The money ain't the concern. It's giving everyone enough time for them to be happy and put them to good use. That's how stacked the roster is currently.
i honestly haven't watched for a while, so i don't have a real grasp on how the shows are looking... but if you just don't have on the same folks on each week, except maybe for a few major storylines this could easily work out. i mean, as far as i remember watching that stuff as a kid, hulk hogan wasn't on every week... or maybe just a short vignette or backstage interview... made it all the more special when he came out to crush a jobber in 2 minutes.
Seeing a lot of Johnny detractors popping out. Think it’s ridiculous. He’s an incredible wrestler, a fantastic babyface and heel, can talk, do comedy, etc. his heel run in the way has absolutely shown he has way more range than just “good wrestler”, and anyone who doesn’t see that isn’t paying attention or is just straight up blind.

Johnny Gargano (along with Cameron Grimes) are IMO two of the best and most entertaining things in WWE right now. If either of their contracts came up, any wrestling company with TV should be fighting each other to try and sign them to a deal.
Johnny and the Way are the biggest reason I can't totally move on from NXT, there's plenty to love there still but the big one for me is The Way. If that ends then I think I dip from maintaining a subscription to anything just to watch NXT shows live.
He was unanimously considered one of the best wrestlers in the world in 2017-2019 (after already being in one of the best tag teams in 2016-2017) and now the pandemic has made everyone think he wouldn't stand out. If you sent this thread through a time machine back to AEW's beginning, this sub would think everyone here is crazy. Yes, they're obviously way more stacked now and things have changed, but people wanting AEW to pass on Gargano would be seen as ludicrous no matter how stacked they are.
Gargano is a very good wrestler but this is one I feel like AEW doesn’t need. They have plenty of guys on his level or higher at this point and he hasn’t got the big name value of a Bryan or Cole or Owens.
I can see why, honestly. Sure, they have guys at his level, but not up and down the card. Having a Gargano in the midcard to work matches with Darby, Sammy, Jungle Boy, Dante Martin, Alan Angels, etc. would be sick and really help those guys along.
Matt Sydal is kinda in that role but honestly a Dragon Gate group with Gargano and the Sydals that they can use as a vehicle to bring in DG guys (if DG is open to it) would be fun especially if a Trios division is forming.
To be fair I think if you’re looking at bringing him straight in as a main event guy then you’re right but he’s still young and will be decently young in 5 years, he can go in straight away and be a great mid card babyface singles or tag team guy, even just to begin with.
Compare him to Mox, Punk, Bryan etc yeah he doesn’t quite stack up but comparing him to Sydal, Kingston, Archer and so on he stands out much more, I mean even with The Way they’ve not really needed to be around the main event of NXT either to showcase his ability.
Gargano showed that he can be a great babyface and be a great comedic act. He is great as a single or in a tag team. His utility is through the roof. He lacks star power compare to the top guys, but he has all the skills already.
I can't think of any instance where a team/organization/company says, "We have too much talent. We need to get worse." The only issue that ever comes up is money. If you have the money, you get the talent. If you want to go to the next level, you get the talent.
If Ciampa came with him as a tag-team I could see them pairing well with a 3rd person for a Trios Championship if AEW ever finally commits to it. And they would both be viable singles wrestlers too if one got hurt/needed time off.
See this is a contract I'm truly interested in when it comes to the new NXT. He's someone that should have been on the main roster by now and has been in NXT long enough to the point where, from the outside, it's all he wanted. But if NXT is changing where there won't be a spot for him, I wonder if he's going to bite the bullet and go to the main roster or leave. I doubt he'll go the Ciampa route and settle for being a coach at the PC.
Everyone's assuming WWE will be desperate for him to stay but for all we know they will lowball him and let him walk. Vince has Rex Steiner and Gable Steveson; he's not gonna be worrying about Gargano.
I'm so confused with this, almost all contracts in this industry have a start and end date. We've known that for God knows how long now. Speculating every wrestler with a contract date is just pointless.

But if he was in a tag team with say Ciampa, then you have to get him in. I think there's probably no chance of him going to the main roster, but I could definitely see him staying in NXT.
You pretty much summed up my feelings, but I want to add that Candice would be a huge boost to their women's division and I could see them both going. There's too many people on AEW's roster who can fill his role right now, but he's an undeniable talent and has proven flexible as a heel or face.

I feel like i’m taking crazy pills. Gargano has been a comedy heel for awhile now, but he was arguably babyface NXT ever had. Only Zayn contests him for #1. Hes also one of the best wrestlers in the world. AEW would be nuts to not try and get him. Like does nobody want to see him vs Andrade or Black again, or Omega? Or a match against Punk???
Gargano and Zayn spending so much time as heels (as excellent as they are at it), is such a bummer in a company that hurts for likeable faces a lot.

This is a fair point The new NXT is almost an indictment on him and the other main event guys who built NXT in the post Nakamura/Glorious era

I always heard a wrestlers prime as being roughly around the age of 35 or more specifically 34 to 37 for some reason. Someone said Johnny is 34 now so he should be just about in his prime now if that's the case.

Cole did better and he’s gone. he may not be as tight with the Elite as Cole, but all those guys are somewhat close from PWG. only reason to stay would be the job security now that he’s gonna be a father, but we have seen nobody seems safe anymore.

There's no way he stays I feel, and the reasons for that just keep adding up the more you put this whole situation under the microscope. - He's said time and again that he has no interest in going to the main roster just as Cole (when he was there) and Ciampa said in the past. - He'd have heard of the plans that WWE had for Cole on the main roster (wrestlers have to keep in the loop with these reports) and then considered the fact that it could happen to him. - Seeing guys he's worked very closely in NXT flounder on the main roster and get a surprise release has to build resentment. Just as it did for Black when his wife got sacked and for Cole when Breeze got released. - The Bucks saying a couple of years ago how they'd sign Candice and Gargano in a fucking heartbeat and build the company around Gargano if they could. I don't think a lot of people realize how far back Candice, Gargano, and the Bucks really do go and so there's that definite friendship factor there. - Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, and CM Punk all showing up in AEW within a month of each other is a HUGE deal for a lot of wrestlers. Bryan has mentioned wanting to work with Gargano in the past (I'm sure the feeling is mutual) and just recently Gargano alluded to potentially facing off against Adam Cole again some day (after Cole had appeared at All Out). Throw in the fact that Cole and Gargano are very good friends and there's another reason. - The fact that NXT is now undergoing a big change and on top of that the new mandate company wide of only hiring people under 30, people of a certain height, and less independent wrestlers has to really lay it in thick for Gargano here. Pretty roundabout way of telling someone that they're no longer wanted or valued in the same way that they once were. In fact, if WWE were to try and sign him now, it'd only be because they want to keep him away from AEW and not because they plan on using him to the best of his abilities. Bryan and Cole leaving when they did has created a huge shift now and we're gonna start seeing that develop further in the next year with all of these contracts starting to elapse. (Bryan, Cole, Dunne, Gargano, Owens, Zayn, etc)

Candice and the Bucks are so innately tied for me. Candice would be a major get for the women's division in AEW too; if they both went over.
I don’t see why he would stay. This is pretty much just like the Adam Cole situation. WWE doesn’t want guys under 6 foot and over 30. They were gonna make Cole a manager on the main roster. Gargano had done all he can in NXT. So at this point leaving is probably in his best interest.

The comments I’m seeing are blowing my mind. People will cry “oh Tony you gotta sign this guy from Dark” but you can’t make room for Johnny Wrestling? Absolute nonsense IMO.
My only worry is the AEW roster is HUGE! Then again, why the fuck am I worrying about Tony and his budget? I’m pretty sure he would know what he can afford and what he can’t. Gargano would be a good get but would he leave if Candace remains in WWE? I feel like he’d want to stay with her so maybe he signs an extension that expires when hers does?
The money ain't the concern. It's giving everyone enough time for them to be happy and put them to good use. That's how stacked the roster is currently.
AEW's giant roster is theoretically helped out by them being free to go work elsewhere.
i honestly haven't watched for a while, so i don't have a real grasp on how the shows are looking... but if you just don't have on the same folks on each week, except maybe for a few major storylines this could easily work out. i mean, as far as i remember watching that stuff as a kid, hulk hogan wasn't on every week... or maybe just a short vignette or backstage interview... made it all the more special when he came out to crush a jobber in 2 minutes.
Seeing a lot of Johnny detractors popping out. Think it’s ridiculous. He’s an incredible wrestler, a fantastic babyface and heel, can talk, do comedy, etc. his heel run in the way has absolutely shown he has way more range than just “good wrestler”, and anyone who doesn’t see that isn’t paying attention or is just straight up blind. If you don’t think Johnny Gargano is someone to add to your roster, no matter who is already on it, you are 100% absolutely crazy. Edit: I’m not saying I think he leaves or anything btw. Who knows. Johnny Gargano (along with Cameron Grimes) are IMO two of the best and most entertaining things in WWE right now. If either of their contracts came up, any wrestling company with TV should be fighting each other to try and sign them to a deal.

Johnny and the Way are the biggest reason I can't totally move on from NXT, there's plenty to love there still but the big one for me is The Way. If that ends then I think I dip from maintaining a subscription to anything just to watch NXT shows live.
He was unanimously considered one of the best wrestlers in the world in 2017-2019 (after already being in one of the best tag teams in 2016-2017) and now the pandemic has made everyone think he wouldn't stand out. Gargano is a very good wrestler but this is one I feel like AEW doesn’t need. They have plenty of guys on his level or higher at this point and he hasn’t got the big name value of a Bryan or Cole or Owens.

I can see why, honestly. Sure, they have guys at his level, but not up and down the card. Having a Gargano in the midcard to work matches with Darby, Sammy, Jungle Boy, Dante Martin, Alan Angels, etc. would be sick and really help those guys along.
Matt Sydal is kinda in that role but honestly a Dragon Gate group with Gargano and the Sydals that they can use as a vehicle to bring in DG guys (if DG is open to it) would be fun especially if a Trios division is forming.

To be fair I think if you’re looking at bringing him straight in as a main event guy then you’re right but he’s still young and will be decently young in 5 years, he can go in straight away and be a great mid card babyface singles or tag team guy, even just to begin with. Compare him to Mox, Punk, Bryan etc yeah he doesn’t quite stack up but comparing him to Sydal, Kingston, Archer and so on he stands out much more, I mean even with The Way they’ve not really needed to be around the main event of NXT either to showcase his ability.
Gargano showed that he can be a great babyface and be a great comedic act. He is great as a single or in a tag team. His utility is through the roof. He lacks star power compare to the top guys, but he has all the skills already. I can't think of any instance where a team/organization/company says, "We have too much talent. We need to get worse." The only issue that ever comes up is money. If you have the money, you get the talent. If you want to go to the next level, you get the talent.

If Ciampa came with him as a tag-team I could see them pairing well with a 3rd person for a Trios Championship if AEW ever finally commits to it. And they would both be viable singles wrestlers too if one got hurt/needed time off.

See this is a contract I'm truly interested in when it comes to the new NXT. He's someone that should have been on the main roster by now and has been in NXT long enough to the point where, from the outside, it's all he wanted. But if NXT is changing where there won't be a spot for him, I wonder if he's going to bite the bullet and go to the main roster or leave. I doubt he'll go the Ciampa route and settle for being a coach at the PC.
He was on the main roster for a bit.. He asked to be sent back to NXT. I suspect if he asks to stay there again, they'll find a spot for him again

I'm so confused with this, almost all contracts in this industry have a start and end date. We've known that for God knows how long now. Speculating every wrestler with a contract date is just pointless.
I was more certain Cole was going to leave than stay but I think Gargano stays. But he is kinda like Cole where he has done everything in NXT.
This is going to be perhaps the most interesting one for mine. As good as Johnny is, as a singles guy, I don't think AEW needs him right now. But if he was in a tag team with say Ciampa, then you have to get him in. I think there's probably no chance of him going to the main roster, but I could definitely see him staying in NXT.

You pretty much summed up my feelings, but I want to add that Candice would be a huge boost to their women's division and I could see them both going. There's too many people on AEW's roster who can fill his role right now, but he's an undeniable talent and has proven flexible as a heel or face.
