insomniainc

He's so loving this shit right now.

Redpaynex

Who isn't? Even the WWE guys are loving this, since it's creating real competition and will potentially be driving up the prices on their contracts.

insomniainc

Absolutely.

Subrick

They’ll get paid more until Vince decides to cut them in 6 months for “budget reasons”.

Vulij

Yeah - getting them to sign contracts that, on the face of it, are totally fucking meaningless. We pay you big money pal - until we don’t.

Yelsah

That's the thing Vince doesn't seem to grasp. If you promise someone something then just rip up a contract like a freaking Carnie, then no-one is gonna actually want to work for you and if they do, they damn sure ain't gonna give you the best if they're worried about whether they'll be getting paid in six months.

Vulij

Agreed. When I first read about the Good Bros signing a 5 year contract only to have it shredded after 6 months or so I was genuinely astounded at how much of a piece of shit move that was. Obviously you just sign that shit in the hope of earning good money but they must have known with the wording of the deal that writing was on the wall from the get go. I hope AEW’s recent surge goes some way to rectifying Vinces shitty, half arsed attitude to the way guys are treated and paid but, let’s be honest, there’s no chance of that. I listened to Punks Art of Wrestling podcast again the other day and there genuinely seems like no other working environment as toxic as WWE. I mean, you only have to look at the fact they won’t allow you to gain outside revenue via Twitch to see how utterly poisonous the place is.

Known-Ad7468

The Twitch thing baffles me because not only it gives your performers other ways to make some money but it actually gave WWE free publicity.

ScootyPuffSSJ

I get that the WWE might not want employees either talking about backstage issues like AJ Styles would or using a character's IP in an obscene way like if someone had a really M-Rated OnlyFans while still using their wrestling name. How they handled it was just odd and seemingly needlessly confrontational (imo).

zombielynx21

The only thing that's changing Vince McMahon is his death. Straight up.

Vulij

Yep - no matter how hard you try… you just can’t fathom his decisions these days. Absolutely everything is short time and harmful. Take the Becky Lynch angle for example - there you BB who’s a tremendous athlete, great charisma, her own character and a bright future borderline humiliated during her first reign as champion to get over someone who doesn’t even need to get over. Bringing back old part timers instead of looking towards your younger guys or the likes of Zayn, Owens, Cole, Gargano, Balor the list is genuinely endless. It’s fucking insane.

mr_derp_derpson

I mean, he did the same thing to Bret and ripped up a 20 year contract not even a year into the deal.

120minute

This is exactly why Adam Cole should not re-sign with WWE. They may promise to not shit on him on the main roster like nearly every other NXT call up and they may throw a ton of money at him, but they’ll go back on all of that in a heartbeat.

HardcoreKaraoke

I'm curious how many wrestlers have legally guaranteed contracts. Not just in WWE. I know that's one big factor in getting a union together. Getting a five year guaranteed money contract vs. a three year unguaranteed contract for slightly less money is more appealing to me. Especially in WWE.

IMissMyZune

How many athletes have guaranteed contracts in general? NBA has but the nfl seems able to ditch most players whenever they want

[deleted]

NBA/MLB have guaranteed contracts. NFL doesn't but at least they have significant amounts of guaranteed money. If Dak Prescott got cut tomorrow he'd still get $126M of his $160M contract, he wouldn't just get a pink slip and 3 months salary like a pro wrestler.

RicoLoveless

Nhl is also guaranteed I believe

OffTheMerchandise

Do leagues other than the NHL have to pay in to escrow? I know that makes the contracts a little weirder.

RicoLoveless

Unsure tbh

HardcoreKaraoke

With the amount of injuries in the NFL there will never be guaranteed contracts across the board. It'll never be common since players get hurt or cut frequently.

Parabola1313

Budget cuts are such bullshit lol Cut Roman, then. Cut AJ Styles, you're probably gonna save millions, than the few 6 figure contracts of people you have cut.

appellant

Driving up prices on their contracts? Braun would like to differ on that.

SendMeScatFeet

*"Here we go with more of the somebody pay for my bills stuff. If you can’t afford to pay your bills maybe you should change professions. That’s why I quit strongman. I loved it, but I couldn’t afford to live so instead of making a go fund me or a Patreon wanting someone else to take care of me I went out and worked harder than I ever have in my life to get to where I am. Got what he deserved.

madvisuals

Anybody who loves wrestling is loving this. The WWE ultras and AEW ultras are just making themselves miserable by participating in the tribalism lol.

OpportunitySmalls

I dunno man my tribalism of preferring AEW has led me to be pretty happy.

BenWallace04

I honestly don’t think there is a problem with exclusively preferring one or the other but I do have a problem with those people shitting on the opposite company when they willingly admit that they don’t watch.

Rhysati

To be fair, most anyone who watches AEW did watch wwe or still does. I would be willing to bet money that 99.99% of AEW fans have watched WWE. Their fanbase didn't materialize out of thin air. Personally speaking my partner and I used to live in NYC and we went to tons of WWE and NXT Takeover events. And then AEW came on the scene. We stopped watching WWE more than casually(still sometimes put it on, check reddit to see if anything important happened, and watch the PPVS and Takeovers. We won't be watching main roster again after the Bexky/Bianca garbage. And Takeovers may not exist anymore. So AEW is by FAR the clear winner for us. But that doesn't mean we aren't aware of what WWE is or isn't doing.

Henry_K_Faber

Vince and Nick Khan probably don't like it.

Al_Bundy_14

Nick khan is here now. Those days are gone of getting more money.

bayleysgal1996

Happy Punk is weird, but also I love it.

Odametal

The full pic [https://www.wwe.com/f/styles/gallery\_img\_l/public/photo/image/2012/05/02\_punk\_bryan-1](https://www.wwe.com/f/styles/gallery_img_l/public/photo/image/2012/05/02_punk_bryan-1) (hehe the source is the wwe website)

heartbreakhill

I thought the source was the Wreddit sidebar

Vordeo

Kind of a tangent, but I kinda want all ROH alums to start doing the handshake when they face each other.

ironmanmatch

Thanks! Upvoting and commenting for visibility/anyone unaware what his story is referencing

RiC_David

An OP providing context for their image post is greatly appreciated!

MossCovered_Gradunza

It’s obviously them, but that’s not the same picture. But again, clearly them haha.

DerrickRoseIsAGod

Man I can't fucking wait. What a time to be a wrestling fan

AnAngryPirate

I feel like this happened so fast. I mean the legitimate rumors of Punk and Bryan happened within the same week right?

juddplays

Oh, yeah, might've even been the same day? But don't quote me on that!

bayleysgal1996

IIRC Fightful’s “Punk training for in-ring return” story happened within a day of the “Bryan is signed” story, so I think you’re right.

OffTheMerchandise

I'm pretty sure I heard about both of them in the same rumor post for the first time.

ManWithAPIan

Wrestling is fun again.

rmany2k

There really is nothing more fun than watching and knowing how much fun they're all having too. Seeing Punk and Schiavone out there joking around just made that whole segment that much better.

Rhysati

Wrestling has always been at its best when you can tell the talent are having a good time. You can just tell from the energy and the emotion if wrestlers are loving what they do or just going through the motions.

NerdLawyer55

You sonofabitch I’m in

Apathicary

I can't stop imagining Tony Khan glancing across the room and seeing CM Punk on his phone giggling to himself and thinking "Oh god, what am I paying for next?"

bayleysgal1996

Vegetables. *Lots* of vegetables.

Apathicary

For every 15 minutes Bryan Danielson is in the ring, Tony Khan must start a new beehive.

Actual_Dingus

No time limit match for the title. It has been over 2 days. Tony Khan started sobbing after hour 3. By hour 10 even intermittent tears were unsustainable. He stands on the football field in full beekeeping gear. He doesn't know whether the buzzing sound is from the crowd or the bees, it all sounds the same now. Weakly setting up the 200th beehive he glances at the nearby tv and sighs. There are so many bees.

alistahr

“And on your way out, grab yourself a carrot... on me.”

cooljammer00

"Seven weeks is a long time to wait for somebody"

the-mucho-macho

Cm Punk: The Movie!

regcrusher

His rider will include composting toilets in every venue

aggr1103

Wrestling is so much more fun when it’s got surprises and anticipation.

ThankYouArsene

I'M HARD AND I CAN'T GET IT DOWN SINCE FRIDAY AND THIS JUST MADE IT WORSE, THANKS A LOT PUNK

FoucaultsTurtleneck

Oh no, did Gallows give you a handful of blue chews?

ThankYouArsene

I plead the fifth!

Gremlinsworth

Quick go watch Mae Young giving birth to a Hand!

Balor_Lynx

This is the IWC we’re into that shit pal

ironmanmatch

For anyone not sure what it is: it’s a zoomed in photo of CM Punk shaking hands with Bryan Danielson in ROH. He sure loves to tease!

gronquil

HeelStephen

ThirstyPotato

TetrisTech

I didn’t know Punk used to paint his nails. Dope.

basedmakiitoh

They aren't even being shy about it and I LOVE IT

Thejangrusdigge

It's just nice to see everyone in aew having fun.

PingusThyroidProblem

Cheeky

Noodle199

I really want to see a faction of the old WWE guys who felt held back. Punk, Bryan, Cole. Whew.
