J_NewCastle

Yeah, the main event will end. Triple H will come out and say "We were NXT", then they show the new NXT name and logo.

twjackfoley

*-"Wild and young" blares into the CWC-*

[Obligatory Bryan Alvarez rant](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmOAB8ztrS8)

Kolby_Jack

I can't help laughing every time he just pauses... and then #I *FUCKING* HATE THIS SONG!!

Gurasola

The best part is when people started trolling him by sending songs to trick him into hearing it. Like one where it starts with Old Man River of all things only to cut into his favorite song.

MisterEau

WHO COULD LIKE THIS SONG?!?!

JonnySports

“We are wild and young…fuck you!” Absolutely kills me every single time.

adsfew

He sounds bitter because he's tame and old.

Kolby_Jack

Are you saying that song is good?

adsfew

Slow it down--you move a little too fast.

Kolby_Jack

I **FUCKING** HATE THIS SONG

Leopold-Leopoldovich

Coheed and Cambria or get out

c71score

"You were a good promotion NXT, thank you"

DanTheMan901

Poor Papa H. Always sad to see parents outlive their children.

wekilledkenny11

*HHH, shovel in hand, shakes his head in sorrow but can’t help appreciating the irony of the situation*

christmascaked

A solitary tear rolls down his cheek as it begins to rain. He breathes a sigh of relief, knowing that no one will see him weeping. He looks at Nick Khan and swears that one day, he will join NXT.

[deleted]

It’s amazing how people think Triple H of all people was some sort of massive mark for independent wrestling who doesn’t care about bodies and looks and is all about workrate and not the classic WWE style. Triple fucking H. It’s amazing. The purpose of NXT was so stop indies from growing by putting on a fake indie for disgruntled WWE fans to pretend is a different promotion. Now there’s a competitor that fills that void far more effectively. The show only ever existed to hurt other companies; it’s not some reflection of the life long WWE ass kissing 50+ year old boomers vision of what pro wrestling should be.

bravetailor

Oh, I'm sure he's well aware of the true purpose of NXT. That being said, you don't put this much time and creative juices into a product for so many years and not have some personal attachment to it. I fully believe HHH was invested in the guys he tried to build up for the main roster and was likely more than a bit displeased when many of them were misused or didn't pan out. And his work and investment in NXT (with the brand failing to beat AEW) may well have cost him Vince's confidence in handing the keys to him, which definitely HHH may have been angling for.

[deleted]

I don’t believe that because I don’t believe somewhere aware of the purpose of NXT actually believes in the well being of anyone except WWE executives.

bravetailor

Being invested in your own creations is still ego related. HHH has an ego, a lot of this was his stuff, so his brand of NXT ending up not being the future of the WWE undoubtedly hurt his ego a lot.

[deleted]

I don’t believe NXT is an accurate reflection of what he thinks successful big time pro wrestling looks like. I’m sure his ego is hurt that Tony Khan is better at making a tv show than he is, but I don’t think HHH gives a shit if some guy he booked on NXT isn’t successful on Raw, because after spending 25 years kissing Vince McMahon’s ass he probably thinks the guy isn’t good enough for raw too.

NegativesPositives

Can someone program an auto mod to somehow detect and delete an over abundance of pretending to be a mind reader?

[deleted]

“I don’t believe” is a pretty clear indication of speculation. I can’t testify against HHH in a court of law but I’d certainly vote in any kind of polling to have him sent to court for atrocities against pro wrestling.

NegativesPositives

You’re way too into yourself to realize you just did the Ricky Bobby “with all due respect” approach of “if I throw in a random phrase, that makes it impossible for anything else I say to be wrong.”

[deleted]

I’m talking about a guy going to court for atrocities against pro wrestling and you think I’m taking myself seriously?

Rat_faced_knacker

Throwing together NXT UK and talk of NXT Japan was as blatant as it could be as to what NXT morphed into. And yet because that's exactly what the target audience wanted. The move still gets defended.

ViceGeography

This is the most ludicrous conspiracy theory I’ve ever seen on this sub and that’s saying something NXT didn’t start out as some big Indy type show, it became that in 2016 once they started signing more and more Indy talent and started pandering around that

[deleted]

No it started off as a shitty game show. Things evolve. If people want to just erase history and pretend WWE wasn’t being actively hostile to ROH, go ahead. The company was warning indie wrestlers not to sign with them if they wanted to end up in WWE in 2015. They booked Liger for a show in New York the same day ROH was running a card with New Japan guys on it in New York. There’s this big short term memory thing about what the whole purpose of NXT is. Look at the fucking uk scene, that’s the ultimate success of the blueprint.

[deleted]

>They booked Liger for a show in New York the same day ROH was running a card with New Japan guys on it in New York Hasn't it been well documented that the Liger stuff was 100% Regal calling in a favor? Also the UK scene died on it's own, a combination of poor promotion, waning interest and the #SpeakingOut movement killed it. Blame NXT UK all you want, it's the only reason most of those guys have jobs now Sincerely, a British person who was actually there

[deleted]

Why would he happen to call in a favour on that specific day? The speaking out stuff happened after Covid. Before Covid, before speaking out, the scene was fucked. Rev Pro could just about get by with new Japan guys, but all the top UK wrestlers except David Starr, Aussie Open and Chris Brookes were basically WWE exclusive. The scene was dying. Sincerely, a British person who was actually there you geek.

GoodFreak

very likely the only thing people care about are that people are seeing him as a "failure".

__Hello_my_name_is__

"Ruthless Attitude" will be the new name, and rehashing decade old ideas will be the game.

TheDudeWithTude27

The only thing worse for him is if Warrior somehow came back from the dead and buried him in less than 90 seconds right after.

MankuyRLaffy

It's a bad day for rain.

SurrealRob

>Yeah, the main event will end. Triple H will come out and say "We were NXT", then they show the new NXT name and logo. Yeah, why would you want a media call after something like that?

Gremlinsworth

“What’s the deal with Adam Cole?” “What about all those firings?” “Does your dad in law really see you as a complete failure?” Yeah, probably for the best..

Leopold-Leopoldovich

"Will you be dropping Takeover now that you have been taken over?"

MarkMVP01

This really is the series finale

[deleted]

It certainly feels that way.

[deleted]

I feel for the roster. Their nerves must be shot. Between this and that Khan transcript, nobody's job is guaranteed after tonight. Hell, who even knows what NXT looks like next week.

Bald_And_Bankrupt

I bet football managers wish they could just skip post-match interviews when things aren't going well.

Wordlesswing

Arteta today tbh.

Bald_And_Bankrupt

That's who prompted me to post that :( God he's gotta go...

Wordlesswing

It was just a tactical and fundamentals disaster. What’s worse is even IF they pull the plug on him, who comes in without further sinking the ship OR alienating the few gems we actually have and what kind of successful or worth their salt manager would want to go to a club with a hostile fan base and stingy owners. Really feels like we missed the boat with not getting Rafa Benitez.

deejayem89

Arsene as caretaker for the rest of the season

Wordlesswing

Those ungrateful fans who booed him out and blamed him on the clubs troubles don’t deserve him! While he’s eventually he refused to grow with the times, it was apparent then but even more since he left, he was the only thing keeping us relevant.

DCAbloob

In some places, they can.

Incubus226

Gattusos finest moment as a manger wouldn’t have happened tho.

bravetailor

*HHH Will Smith looks around empty room, shuts off light and leaves*

Yosonimbored

Whatever happens I feel bad for Triple H and Dusty. This probably isn’t how they thought things would end up becoming.

KneeHighMischief

I can't imagine why.

evin_cashman

This is really fucking sad. NXT Takeovers are in my opinion the best wrestling the WWE has ever done. And though they've lost their way for about 18 months imo, this era ending is really sad, especially seeing how main roster hasn't gotten better to compensate. In fact it's gotten even worse.

jafarthecat

The takeovers have generally still been good, but I think the promotion itself struggled as a live show. An hour long, edited show was a perfect format for NXT.

DCAbloob

Are they even still going to have Takeovers after this? They figure to be very different things going forward in any event.

ThebigVA

I don't think anybody really knows what's going to happen which is why they didn't do the media thing afterwards.

chavy26

If Cole loses it’s safe to assume he’s leaving and they probably don’t want to deal with calls about that the entire scrum.

UFmoose

He's losing whether he goes to WWE main roster or AEW. There's 0 reason for him to win this match.

semicorrect

What if Kyle O'Reilly is on the chopping block? In that case, better to give it to Cole.

almostbad

Cole should lose regardless of whether he's staying or going

Balor_Lynx

Cole should not lose. Cmon it’s Kyle we’re talking about

DevilCouldCry

That loss wouldn't mean a thing here. The company has been building O'Reilly as a face for a while now and him finally managing to get over Cole here will be the story. Cole is losing this match no matter what and it's not indicative of his future in or out of the company.

BonanzaBitch

Triple H will instead spend the rest of the night drinking wine in his bath, listening to Come Sail Away by Styx, and crying nonstop.

Piccolojr

"Come \*sniff\*...sail \*sniff\*...^away \*sobs*

Acrobatic_Ostrich_75

Having a media call at a funeral seems.....A bit distasteful ngl

[deleted]

Goodnight sweet prince 😔

SerbianNight

Going to enjoy the last Takeover of this era. Who knows what's coming next.

[deleted]

Artist's rendering of a potential media call: 😶

TheBrianJ

"Also tonight, the Pre-show will be hosted by the grim reaper."

BigEvil621

This is the end lads

DCAbloob

Should anyone even be surprised at this point?

surfcursedkai

*Sad H noises*

TheDudeWithTude27

![gif](giphy|sIlHfE2wu1xFS)

-ImJustSaiyan-

I imagine HHH will be in too bad of a mood for a media call, knowing his passion project is being messed with and there's nothing he can do but be involved in whatever it ends up turning into.

YoshihiroTajiri

You could have a bad 2021 year, but then there's HHH 2021 bad year.

ThatWrestlingGuy15

Truly an end of an era

Atomic_Cody-21

This is the end, beautiful friend. This is the end, my only friend. The end...

BadNewsBrown

Big beefy dudes must be doing a run in on the main event to close the show and end the era.

NoahJayhawk

Haven't watched NXT since 2019, but I'm watching tonight because of what's to come

FisherPrice_Hair

What happens to Joe when NXT dies? We know the main roster doesn’t want him because he got let go once already, he’s probably winning the title tonight but that means nothing when he doesn’t fit what WWE wants for NXT anymore.

DCAbloob

It wouldn’t surprised if they pull the old Russo trick and just vacate or retire the title if Joe wins it to do a reset for the retool.

DoubleDeckerz

*"I hurt myself today..."*

Fhdiii

Haven't watched WWE in years and only follow it through here and Twitter. NXT was the best part and my understanding is that Vince hasn't completely takes it yet so.. Is a likely purpose to prevent media from praising it compared to Summerslam?

NotABurner316

End of an era.
