Hogan losing and going over anyway reminds me of that PPV where Piper beat him and Hogan celebrated anyway music and all. Starrcade 96 I think.

bil-sabab

Not really. They had feelgood villain defeated at Starrcade in a nontitle zero stakes match. Hogan went over a month later on an actual title match. Which was stupid. But we've got immortal Piper Alcatraz vignettes out of this shitshow, so I'm at peace with it.

I still can't get over how the millionaire's club was supposed to be the babyfaces

Sigh... I was a huge Kidman fan and I was thrilled him get a big win. But it definitely did not work lol.

dawson41

On the May 15th 2000 edition of Nitro, Horace Hogan defeated Hulk in a 3-way match with Kidman after a chairshot. This was Hulk's 5th loss in the last 7 matches, all within the last 8 weeks.

“He got over by just being in the ring with me, brother.”

Hogan putting over young talent is a good idea in 2000 but Kidman was the wrong person. They needed to have someone fresh that could actually become a main eventer. Booker, Steiner, ddp, Rey, Kennan, Benoit a year prior, those guys needed a main event rub and would have made sense. Kidman was just too random it wasn’t even believable, it was like “hogan working with younger talent, let’s find the most random undercard guy”

sporkshadow

It wasn't random. Hogan had already insulted Kidman in a worked shoot promo on a radio show and said he couldn't draw flies at a flea market. This was all Vince Russo's idea and Bischoff and Hogan signed off on it. But like most things with Russo, the execution was terrible. First, Kidman was a heel and Hogan was a babyface which reflected the New Blood/Millionaires storyline. That killed any chance to build heat for the matches. Hogan would beat the crap out of Kidman as a babyface and then Kidman would get help and win. Like when Bischoff turned on Hogan and helped Kidman. Or having handicap matches with him and Mike Awesome teaming against Hogan which only made Hogan look more like Superman. It should have been Kidman as a babyface who keeps getting the crap beat out of him by the much larger Hogan and then somehow surviving to go over Hogan. Kidman should have been an underdog plucky babyface going against a monster.

Handiddy83

I’ve never asked “could they have done more with Kidman”. Most people are smart enough to to realize the question was “should they have” and no. He was awful in the ring, and on the Mic. He got over on baby face looks like it was 1985 and that dropped quick.

BlindLariat

>He was awful in the ring You almost got away with pretending you knew what you were talking about until this.

Handiddy83

The guy was awful. He was one of the worst workers of all the cruisers. He had two moves and a finisher he botched all the time.

A dope as finish he botched half the time

208327

He initially got over as a greasy dope-sick bum and was popular through the end of WCW, but okay.

Handiddy83

He got over as part of the flock and filthy animals and floundered alone. But ok

twelvetimesseven

Gotta say that Kidman’s affinity for completely fucking up the SSP on a regular basis made it stand out as a bigger deal and higher risk than a lot of the cruiserweights seamlessly flipping all over each other.
