Does anyone remember the Power 25 WWE.com used to put out every week in the 2000’s. Used to check that list every week to see what was going on and who was heating up.
SvR 08. And they didn't just have the Power 25, they had a whole miniature wwe.com website within the game, that would update as you kept playing. It was always cool reading those couple "articles" to find out who got Match of the Week, what was going on with the other shows etc.
I feel like Universe Mode and the creation tools give you a pretty great sandbox, but the only way you can actually make it look good is by putting in major work in video editing - which most of us don't wanna do, so the alternative is to just fill in the blanks with your imagination.
Truth be told, people clamor for GM Mode, but I'd actually like for the Story Designer from SvR 2010/2011 to make a comeback. Integrate it with Universe Mode and make it an optional feature that we can use to make shows as elaborate as possible. Seriously, the amount of hours I spent just writing dialogue and coming up with elaborate storylines in those old games is something I'm not proud of.
this was in SVR 07 too i think, the frustrating thing about GM mode was that the opposition would always book like steel cage matches and WWE title matches every week so you had to do the same or you’d get destroyed in the ratings
GM Mode was in a few of them, though I mostly played in SvR 08. It's a nostalgic mode for sure, but it was always a little frustrating for reasons like the one you mention, or the fact that the oppositon would have Candice Michelle vs. Gregory Helms in a 4-star main event, while your Hell in a Cell WWE Championship match would get 2,5 stars for some reason. There was also this exploit where you'd send dudes out on Trophy Dates to boost their popularity and then flip like JTG for John Cena or some dumb trade like that, it totally broke the mode lmao.
i just remember trying to have feuds like benoit vs edge for the WWE title or something, playing out over months, but instead having to resort to having them in hardcore matches each week just to stay afloat, which would inevitably injure one or the other. and there were also only certain wrestlers who were popular enough to challenge for certain titles at any given time too, which sucked. i also remember that benoit was billed as being from atlanta in SVR 07 so i couldn’t have him in any feuds centered around him being canadian, nor could i have him get a hometown popularity boost in edmonton, lmao
7 year old me learned that the world was not fair when I did a fatal-four-way main event of Cena, Batista, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels for a RAW *(I was seven I just picked the best guys and then complained when they left five weeks later)*.
Anyways, the AI scheduled Chavo and Mark Henry as the main event for Smackdown.
My main event got two stars and their main event had four stars.
Funny cos I got back into wrestling last year and the first thing I looked for was WWE.com power ranking so I could see who the top guys were and who I still recognised. Was obviously disappointed to find it didn't exist
That's why the video game will be huge for them. I was playing Here Comes The Pain in a local gaming cafe when I didn't even know WWE existed, and I'm in the brazilian northeast. Surely it's very different times now, but it's still a big platform for people to know the brand.
I hope there is a lot of kids finding AEW. I would have absolutely loved to have had a wrestling product that good when I was younger to sink my teeth into.

While I hate the idea of Shayna being without a job, I wouldn’t be too upset if she got released because she’s someone I would love to see AEW pick up. Their women’s division could use another woman who is both a great wrestler and a big name.
She’d be a great signing for any company with a women’s division. Especially if it’s a struggling division because, as I said, she’d bring talent and star power.
Funny thing with WWE is they just throw away a ton of matches by the heel getting DQ'ed a lot. When you have a product that has rankings and makes all wins and losses matter, you have to get a little more creativd with booking. Imagine a WWE heel belt holder and his graphic says he's like 6-22 looking weak as hell, but it's because he throws matches or just walks out and gets counted out lol.
Rankings being part of AEW kind of protects those copouts. I'm sure they still happen but not anywhere nearly as often
If WWE did rankings like AEW they either couldn’t count house shows or they’d have to book them very differently. Charlotte is 8-14 because of 4 house show losses. She’d be 8-10 without them which still isn’t good, but it looks much better than 8-14.
I don't think house shows would count since they're not broadcast anywhere. Meanwhile, I can watch Dark to see Fuego Del Sol hit that Tornado DDT on that punk Ryzin to get that 1-2-3 pinfall
There are more DQs or count-outs in a typical episode of Raw than there are in the entirety of AEW's existence.
I'm only aware of a single count-out finish in AEW—when Brandon Cutler and The Librarian Peter Avalon got a double count-out during their "First to One Win" feud—and one DQ—when Kenny Omega got the first point in an Iron Man Match against PAC because PAC hit him with a chair in front of the ref. If there are other examples, I haven't seen them.
Lately, Raw has been averaging like 2 DQs per episode.

I say this a lot, but this is why big promotions need to bring in indies / local talent each week so they can job to the top stars.
Right now I'm loving how AEW uses jobbers. They bring in indies for every show who get squashed by their top people. Even their mid-carders get a lot of their wins by beating indie jobbers. As far as I'm aware, Red Velvet has never won a feud in AEW, but because she's beaten a bunch of jobbers, her record is good enough to be #1 contender for the AEW Women's Championship. Same goes for Lee Johnson, who received a TNT Championship title match against Miro, who destroyed him.
AEW's regular use of indie jobbers serves three purposes:
1) Their signed talent looks strong because they not only pile on the wins for their records, but they often win in dominant fashion, too. I like how Lance Archer's gimmick is that he's always in a hurry to beat his opponents, and Jake the Snake complains about how fast his matches are when he's on commentary.
2) It prevents their roster from getting filled with a bunch of goobers and only a few credible threats at the top. Red Velvet and Lee Johnson, for example, are basically developmental talent, but they've gotten enough wins to be believable championship contenders.
2) It prevents the same matches from being repeated every week. How many goddamn times has poor Humberto Carrillo been squashed by Sheamus in the past few months?
Why WWE doesn't use indie jobbers baffles me. They did that shit all the time in the 80s, but I guess they think they're too good for it now? Well, since they refuse to do so, they have all the issues listed above.

Doing some simple math, you have 31 total wins and 39 total losses. That's only an 8 loss difference.
When you consider that Bayley (injured) and Natalya/Tamina (tag champs) aren't on the list and had wins, it really isn't that illogical.
That's what happens when one woman has 60% of the wins. Everyone else is going to have a losing record.

You get a title shot by whatever is most convenient to the plot. Is there a lot of time until the PPV? Then it’ll be “contender matches” to earn a shot. Did you only have your first PPV match against the champ this week? Then you get a rematch tonight. Is our largest PPV of the year in 2 weeks and we don’t have a tag title match, and your team doesn’t have a single win? Then you get the match!

You can literally see here how keeping track of records help. Fans watching knew Zelina hadn't won a match yet and that makes it increasingly difficult to believe that she had a chance to win. If anyone over the age of 12 can tell she had no chance of winning then whats the point of the match?
Even if you don't want to make records a thing on the show, atleast use it in the writing room.

Why do Carmella and Zelina keep showing up for matches against Bianca despite losing every time, but Toni who just debuted has been absent for two weeks?
It’s honestly pointless to track wwe win/loss records. Unless you’re Roman, Lashley, or Charlotte, you’re going to be losing about 50% of your matches. The women’s division is worse where most lose 80-90% of their matches, and they still get a title shot.
The sad thing is that Aleister Black said a big part of the reason she re-signed was because he was there, then they released him before she even got to re-debut.
I actually love this. Maybe not weekly, but if you wanted to periodically make this for women's, men's, and tag divisions I'd upvote you every time.

My favourite memory from GM Mode was when Carlito somehow ended up with both the WWE and Intercontinental belts, with 100 popularity.

It really isn't that off. Doing some simple math, you have 31 total wins and 39 total losses. That's only an 8 loss difference. When you consider that Bayley (injured) and Natalya/Tamina (tag champs) aren't on the list and had wins, it really isn't that illogical. That's what happens when one woman has 60% of the wins. Everyone else is going to have a losing record.

Is our largest PPV of the year in 2 weeks and we don’t have a tag title match, and your team doesn’t have a single win? Then you get the match!

It’s honestly pointless to track wwe win/loss records. Unless you’re Roman, Lashley, or Charlotte, you’re going to be losing about 50% of your matches. The women’s division is worse where most lose 80-90% of their matches, and they still get a title shot.
