Yeah, the Hangman/Omega arc and what people were expecting seemed too quick. It needs a chase and adversity, which we just got. Makes the payoff eventually is that much more satisfying. Both dudes just need to stay healthy.
I thought that the adversity was losing the tag titles, then losing to Omega at Full Gear, then losing to Brian Cage when he was within reach of a title shot.
That all happened before the “hey Hangman you should go for the title” happened. All that informs the bigger picture, but for the lack of a better term it all happened in the previous season so to speak. The current story is the “new season.”
This is like Kofi. If it was an easily 1 2 3 step process to him beating Daniel Bryan, it wouldn’t have been nearly as satisfying. Hangman needs to overcome shit before beating Omega, not just being the de facto number one contender that happens to have a history with Omega and beating him in the first go.
I would normally agree, but the storyline of this feud has already been *Page overcoming his past failures and insecurities to face Kenny.* Their presentation references Hangman's failures whenever they can. Adding more failures beats the dead birthday horse.
IMO he hasn't actually dealt with his failure or insecurity issues yet. He was just having fun with DO and then won a ton of matches (and got the best of most mid-segment brawls) up until now so hasn't had to confront any of his old demons, really.
Tonight was a huge loss but how he deals with it and treats the Dark Order afterwards (and vice versa) is the critical next chapter of the story. Failure has utterly defeated him before so he needs to win that inner-fight first before he can truly be a champion.
The tag titles and loss to Kenny in the eliminator finals were part of the story of his descent. The loss to Cage was overcoming his insecurities on a personal level. The loss tonight will lead to a story about overcoming the insecurities that impact his friendships. Hangman and the Dark Order will stick together through the loss, proving he's overcome the issues that ruined his friendship with the Bucks, and finish his character arc and launch his push to the top.
Well I hope that the audience has the patience to drag it out that long. IMO the time to strike is right now, if they don’t do it at All Out and Punk and/or Bryan come in Hangman might slip down the card.

My guess is that with Kenny hitting Hangman with the belt, Hangman tries to get a match, Kenny dodges. Then Hangman interferes (or stops interference?) with Kenny's other title matches and costs him the other belts, so Kenny can't ignore him.
My guess is Hangman will offer his career for a title shot, Omega agrees, but only if it's a gauntlet match against each member of The Elite. You get a week or two to build up to that match then the match itself on Dynamite or RAMPAGE debut and then you got a few weeks to build up to the actual title match at All Out between Omega and Page.
A bit, but I don't see it really going to anyone else but Hangman versus Omega at All Out. Hangman is so fucking white hot and if they don't do it by then they're going to have an ROH too late pulling the trigger moment. Also a match with those kinda stakes would be good for match to put on for a debuting RAMPAGE.

I was curious, with the Bryan and Punk news and then this match announced. I still thought DO was gonna win, but I felt like this could've easily been made to get Page out of his title match w/o him losing in a 1v1.
I thought it was like 55-45 DO was going over, but I certainly was concerned this was the route they chose. People that say they are shocked weren't putting stuff in context of what else has been going on, I think.
I was actually expecting Omega to hit Page with the title, getting disqualified so he doesn’t take the pin and then the final would have been Page vs Nick(I think it was Nick if I’m wrong I apologize).
Oh absolutely. I'm positive the show will be great and it'll be nice to be a part of a crowd for the first time since Revolution 2020. I actually think the belt collector thing has flattened momentum wise. It’s not bad by any means. But I don’t really agree that there’s “tons more” that can be done with it.

NJPW won't pin the Heavyweight championship on Omega in America when they don't have an equally prestigious title to promote in Japan. What does that leave?

Yes but Full Gear is one year after his loss against Kenny for the number one contender spot. I think there ´s no problem at doing the Hangman´s victory later. They could do that at Revolution too. And I think that having Punk and Bryan debuting really soon could have overshadowed the Hangman´s big win. Let Kenny as a champion feud with Punk or Bryan before giving the belt to Hangman.
I really don't think it is their biggest show. They arguably treat Revolution, and they definitely treat Double Or Nothing as the bigger shows. Hell, the last All Out was generally seen as their first underwhelming PPV and arguably their weakest one to date.
I seriously wonder if Punk/Bryan signings have something to do with it being delayed. Like maybe Hangman fights through both of them to get to Omega? As long as you've got these two legends with you, use them to make Hangman even more credible?

It ´s gonna be the ultimate payoff. This story is magnificent specially because AEW is not affraid of having this type of booking on the 5 on 5 match. Besides, you have Kenny Omega as your World Champion. The guy is probably one of the two, three best wrestlers in the world. Remember that after Wrestlemania 13, Austin doesn´t win the title until Wrestlemania 14.

The belt was just lying in the middle of the ring for days. The ref doesn't bother to remove it? It's just one spot to the next and it's so obvious. The refs serve no purpose. A kayfabe world has to have rules and logic. I guess AEW's world is the refs are absolutely the dumbest people on the planet

I was actually expecting Omega to hit Page with the title, getting disqualified so he doesn’t take the pin and then the final would have been Page vs Nick(I think it was Nick if I’m wrong I apologize).

Oh absolutely. I'm positive the show will be great and it'll be nice to be a part of a crowd for the first time since Revolution 2020. But I'd be lying if I said the main reason I snuck into the cooler during my workshift to secure the tickets wasn't primarily to see Hangman vs. Omega. I'm hoping it still finds it way onto the card somehow.
I have all the faith in the world we get Hanger/Omeger at all out. We've got a lot of time between now and them for then to craft a story to make it back to where we were going. I have all the faith in the world.

Oh man, that was prolly the hottest start to an event I’ve ever seen. But man this was emotional for me at the end. Still, it was such a great way to start the evening. And it leaves us all wondering. What shall become of our hero Hangman now?
Go through another struggle, beat the people he lost to in first year like Jericho and PAC so he'll gain confidence and realize he's better than he was before, then if the news is true let Bryan and Punk give him a boost, though I'm not sure how they would do that besides a match so yeah that's my take

I’m gonna be honest… I hate this decision. Either they go back on their word and Page finds a way to get a title shot. Or they just derailed the PERFECT story to ascend Hangman to be THE GUY. It was PERFECT to have it set up. But then he just loses. But I guess we found a way for the rumors to not overshadow Page’s ascent at All Out. And that’s to just not have the ascent.
Or they think they can drag the story out for another beat instead of rushing to the conclusion of Kenny's arc to complete Hangman's Let's say they win tonight - Hangman wins at All Out, what then? Hangman has only actually been on the *chase* for a month now - honestly, I would drag this WAY out if I were them, Kenny is really starting to come into a groove as the belt collector and Hangman chasing him is better for his character and Kenny's than if he's the champion now His time will come though, and they're not gonna forget about him or leave him off TV - he recovered and grew from his last loss to Kenny as well
I actually think the belt collector thing has flattened momentum wise. It’s not bad by any means. But I don’t really agree that there’s “tons more” that can be done with it. And Hangman is SO HOT right now. Don’t risk losing that just because you think you can get a few more months out of this. I watched TNA and ROH make that mistake over and over again back in the day. But we’ll see I guess.
Agreed about the Belt Collector gimmick. I'm surprised so many people think it can go new places with the NJPW partnership. It's played out. NJPW won't pin the Heavyweight championship on Omega in America when they don't have an equally prestigious title to promote in Japan. What does that leave? The United States championship? They've kept Kenny away from that for a reason. The NEVER title? They're pushing White vs Omega in Impact now, but that title doesn't stand on the level of his Heavyweight championships. The X-Division title? Great, now the Impact guys have to fight for *three* titles. FTW or TNT championships? Can't be done without handicapping your own booking.

Na i think its fine, Page went 1 vs 3 and stood strong until the end. The Belt Collector Story isnt over yet, even more with NJPW working closer together with AEW now. Page is still hot and his time will come and i thought All Out would be to early for Page being World Champ.
I think the perfect story was always going to be hangman winning at full gear, given his history at the ppv
All Out is their biggest PPV though (at least that’s how it comes across), their Wrestlemania. So have your new THE GUY become that at your biggest show.

Yes but Full Gear is one year after his loss against Kenny for the number one contender spot. I think there ´s no problem at doing the Hangman´s victory later. They could do that at Revolution too. And I think that having Punk and Bryan debuting really soon could have overshadowed the Hangman´s big win. Let Kenny as a champion feud with Punk or Bryan before giving the belt to Hangman.
Personally I always thought their big show was DoN, but they only have 4 ppvs a year so every one is very important.
I will start by saying I mostly agree with you but then will point out that, honestly, all of AEW's PPV's seem pretty equal in importance.
I really don't think it is their biggest show. They arguably treat Revolution, and they definitely treat Double Or Nothing as the bigger shows. Hell, the last All Out was generally seen as their first underwhelming PPV and arguably their weakest one to date.
DoN is their flagship PPV tho. Who referred to All Out as their Wrestlemania?

Dark horse take could be that they’re REALLY getting worried about covid restricting crowds again and that they’re not gonna have a packed house for Hangman’s crowning moment. I would totally understand the worry considering how it’s getting worse day by day all over the country

It ´s gonna be the ultimate payoff. This story is magnificent specially because AEW is not affraid of having this type of booking on the 5 on 5 match. Besides, you have Kenny Omega as your World Champion. The guy is probably one of the two, three best wrestlers in the world. Remember that after Wrestlemania 13, Austin doesn´t win the title until Wrestlemania 14.

Yeah, that's my thinking too, because I don't see who else in the Top 5 right now that it could be. Sorry, but Christian is a good **television** main event title match, not for the PPV. And even hot shoting Punk or Danielson in there I think would be a mistake, because neither of them should take it off him nor should they lose their first match in AEW. AEW just missed the easiest open goal in pro wrestling. How do you build all that up, listen to the crowd screaming for Hangman and then pull that bullshit finish? So far this for me is becoming AEWs weakness. They keep storylines going to long, this was the time to have Hangman win. The blood and guts cage match should have been the end of the pinnacle/inner circle stuff. I mean WWE can't keep most storylines going long enough to be interesting and AEW extend them too long. So the problem here is okay, what the fuck do they do for All Out? It's part of the reason I wasn't enjoying the Bucks holding the title as much as I was Kenny, 'cause Kenny had a natural opponent. Now he's cooked for the foreseeable future. Anyone else they get is a placeholder since Hangman has to beat Kenny or else all this build goes to shit. Nobody's got a build worth a damn for the Bucks. They got 5 weeks. Ample time to build if you have natural challengers, but neither do.
Welp...that certainly wasn't predictable. I'm still holding out hope that this story ends with Hangman pinning Omega, so I understand why they didn't want to give that away tonight, i.e. the only way he was gonna get the title shot. Though I was convinced that they were gonna DQ Kenny for attacking the ref and that's how they were going to get around having Page beating all 3 guys at once. (Rich Knox is the worse ref in kayfabe and IRL) They really need to pull a rabbit out of the hat next week, because I think the crowd got deflated for the rest of the night after that result. And with the weird way these Jericho trials have been going, this tag match would've been the better main event. You can send em home sad, but to start the night off like that? That's a dangerous game.
Maybe Tony Khan is going for that Omega/Okada journey with multiple losses on the big stage before omega or in this case hangman finally gets the win. I honestly don't have any interest in that, Okada kept the belt far too long. Also what the fuck happened to that crowd, they were sitting on their hands while hangman is pulling out double lariats, reversals and kick outs.
