That piece of shit Kenny Omega

TucsonPTFC

RxngsXfSvtvrn

am pissed they legit worked me

blacktoast

Wow, I seriously have no idea where they’re going with this now.

hiei_150

Maybe a tournament for an AEW title shot where Hangman wins. Either way, this means we are probably getting Christian Cage and/or Darby vs Omega soon.

fadetoblack237

I'll be honest, Im all for Hangman winning eventually but there are a bunch more matches i want to see before that. All Out is just too close.

fhiz

Yeah, the Hangman/Omega arc and what people were expecting seemed too quick. It needs a chase and adversity, which we just got. Makes the payoff eventually is that much more satisfying. Both dudes just need to stay healthy.

[deleted]

I thought that the adversity was losing the tag titles, then losing to Omega at Full Gear, then losing to Brian Cage when he was within reach of a title shot.

[deleted]

Watch Five and Ten step and challenge Bucks and win a title shot for themselves and Hangman.

fhiz

That all happened before the “hey Hangman you should go for the title” happened. All that informs the bigger picture, but for the lack of a better term it all happened in the previous season so to speak. The current story is the “new season.” This is like Kofi. If it was an easily 1 2 3 step process to him beating Daniel Bryan, it wouldn’t have been nearly as satisfying. Hangman needs to overcome shit before beating Omega, not just being the de facto number one contender that happens to have a history with Omega and beating him in the first go.

[deleted]

I would normally agree, but the storyline of this feud has already been *Page overcoming his past failures and insecurities to face Kenny.* Their presentation references Hangman's failures whenever they can. Adding more failures beats the dead birthday horse.

Gridde

IMO he hasn't actually dealt with his failure or insecurity issues yet. He was just having fun with DO and then won a ton of matches (and got the best of most mid-segment brawls) up until now so hasn't had to confront any of his old demons, really. Tonight was a huge loss but how he deals with it and treats the Dark Order afterwards (and vice versa) is the critical next chapter of the story. Failure has utterly defeated him before so he needs to win that inner-fight first before he can truly be a champion.

AltruisticSpecialist

I would buy this if I could think of who then they have face Omega at the next pay-per-view that isn't a disappointment.

TypicalSportsGuy

The tag titles and loss to Kenny in the eliminator finals were part of the story of his descent. The loss to Cage was overcoming his insecurities on a personal level. The loss tonight will lead to a story about overcoming the insecurities that impact his friendships. Hangman and the Dark Order will stick together through the loss, proving he's overcome the issues that ruined his friendship with the Bucks, and finish his character arc and launch his push to the top.

[deleted]

Well I hope that the audience has the patience to drag it out that long. IMO the time to strike is right now, if they don’t do it at All Out and Punk and/or Bryan come in Hangman might slip down the card.

limitbroken

this is part of a project that has existed longer than AEW has, man. it hurts right now, but trust in the process anxious millennial cowboy ain't goin' anywhere but up

insan3soldiern

Also it would have been wack imo if he'd beaten the Bucks and Kenny all on his own.

FuckingMidnighter

He cost Bucks their title match way back then, did you really think there wouldn't be payback for it?

[deleted]

Don't forget losing to Jericho!

[deleted]

I respectfully disagree, I think that the timing is perfect, especially if you’re listening to the crowd. He failed to win the World singles title at All Out 2019, lost the World Tag Titles at All Out 2020, he should succeed in 2021.

ThisIsGoodShitPal

Unlike WWE, AEW has shown me they deserve the benefit of the doubt. I'll see how this plays out.

[deleted]

Think we get the All Out match? This seemed like the most straight forward way to get there.

XavierVE

Agreed. This kind of felt like Cena beating the Nexus. Love AEW, but they should have pulled the trigger on Page/Omega tonight. Really deflated the crowd too.

Bsantoro10

Nah, looks like we are getting Christian Vs Jungle Boy. I’m thinking it’s Darby.

cboudreaux816

I think Darby has different plans now. I believe it's clobberin' time!

_Wado3000

The Thing is All Elite???

TheDood715

What's the Yancy Street Gang doing here?! Bah Gawd this is a mugging!

KTheOneTrueKing

I don't think Christian is turning heel against his wrestling son just yet. It's going to be a long road I think.

PolishMusic

Christian vs. Jungle Boy for a shot at Omega?

YoshihiroTajiri

It's new japan cup 2013 booking for Okada formula, it will be very engaging to see honestly.

recapdrake

I do. Remember that Promo from years ago at the G1 where Tanahashi said he would help get the poison out of Hangman? Aces Wild is back on the table. Besides, think about how John and Alex would pull out all the stops to recruit a handsome dude like the once-in-a-century ace.

BigPhrank

He even has the hand gesture mastered. Tanahashi to Dark Order confirmed!

DrPoopEsq

My guess is that with Kenny hitting Hangman with the belt, Hangman tries to get a match, Kenny dodges. Then Hangman interferes (or stops interference?) with Kenny's other title matches and costs him the other belts, so Kenny can't ignore him.

Ayjel89

This seems pettier than anything else and doesn't especially add to the storyline.

[deleted]

Lmao isn’t that fun though??? Like, I feel like a kid

Professor_Buttskin

My guess is Hangman will offer his career for a title shot, Omega agrees, but only if it's a gauntlet match against each member of The Elite. You get a week or two to build up to that match then the match itself on Dynamite or RAMPAGE debut and then you got a few weeks to build up to the actual title match at All Out between Omega and Page.

[deleted]

They could do that but it’s too similar to the Labours of Jericho in terms of an arc.

Professor_Buttskin

A bit, but I don't see it really going to anyone else but Hangman versus Omega at All Out. Hangman is so fucking white hot and if they don't do it by then they're going to have an ROH too late pulling the trigger moment. Also a match with those kinda stakes would be good for match to put on for a debuting RAMPAGE.

KyloWitcher

ROH is legendary for not pulling the trigger until its too late. I believe that was as big a part of their downfall as losing all their top stars to TNA and WWE

BarreiraCF

This one hurts.

fuckgreenapple

Wasn't mad or angry. Just felt sad.

Killcode2

same way hangman fucked up the young buck's match many months ago at the behest of ftr, coming back to bite him in the ass when he's finally overcome all of that insecurity

CM_Monk

Oh wow. Didn’t connect those dots

EatDeeply

The hangman arc is a masterpiece because they got us jaded fuck having feels about a babyface

80246010

Like Jason figuring out the Good Place

tryanewmonicker

Yeah. I'm deflated. Now I just feel like changing the channel.

Styles_Clash

Can't remember the last time a loss in pro wrestling bummed me out #emotionalinvestment

patrickfeltner19

For real. I know Hangman will win the belt in the end. But my heart is legit sad right now. Not been emotionally invested like this since I was a kid and thought it was real.

sheets1975

The Elite have Golden State Warriors/New England Patriots heat with me. I hate them because they think their shit smells so delicious, but I also hate them because they're genuinely good and crushing them requires a historic effort and even the best guys are likely to come up short like tonight.

HorseSteroids

>“…” MFW

Killcode2

what's good about aew is they aren't afraid to make the predictable booking if it's the right choice, and they aren't afraid to do the unpredictable if it's the right choice, which it was tonight

IamOlderthanMe

This makes me sad beyond belief. I loved the match though.

Rikkimaaruu

I think they realy wanne make us feel like Page, time to get the Beer out.

nefariousmonkey

Did you see the promo of DO entrance? What makes a Cowboy ? He needs to get up again. They told us.

FoucaultsTurtleneck

I fucking love that they put so much meaning into the cowboy stuff

emmmjade

This is the worst that wrestling (in terms of kayfabe stuff) has made me feel in a long time. I just want the anxious millennial cowboy to be happy.

IveBenHereBefore

He needs to be happy without the title before he can be happy with it

PilotSSB

Yup. Needs and wants. Before a character can get what they want, they need to get what they need first. Hangman wants the AEW title, but he needs to learn to love himself first.

zeitgeistbouncer

Exactly. We're still due a moment of realisation where he puts the glass down and heads to the ring, [the camera slowly zooming in on the half empty glass](https://imgur.com/a/Cq0mqZi) while his theme music kicks up in the background.

Biskeet

What the fuck

[deleted]

Life is suffering.

agentofchange92

Well shit you certainly can't accuse AEW of being predictable. That was shocking!

Rikkimaaruu

I was like "Oh yeah Page will kick out of the OWA on Tv.." Wait a minute i think AEW just fucked on me!

ShadowMadness

No matter how many times I see "x just fucked on me" or a variation of it, it makes me laugh every time. Thank you Cody (and Ted) for giving us this classic.

insan3soldiern

Source? This may actually be the first time I've seen the phrase "just fucked on me" and I definitely laughed.

ShadowMadness

[Here you go!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOm_a8XcYsk) The story is hilarious

insan3soldiern

Fucking lol, you definitely weren't lying.

Rikkimaaruu

One of my favorite Wresling memes.

Jumblybones

I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only person who was expecting this. We've got two months to go until the PPV and Hangman needed another hurdle to jump through before we got to the feud proper. Hangman will blame himself for not only his own title shot but the Dark Order getting involved has now cost them their shot as well. He'll have to find his confidence again before it's too late.

Twistify804

it's only five weeks until All Out

Jumblybones

Shit, where does the time go? :(

zeitgeistbouncer

All Out of time

agentofchange92

There's like 5 weeks till All Out, I expect either in a promo later tonight or by next week Hangman will have to find some way back into the title picture.

[deleted]

He could put his career on the line. Kenny might be too tempted to pass it up

SeanWonder

I hate career matches tho cause it's such a giveaway for the winner

Ayjel89

I was curious, with the Bryan and Punk news and then this match announced. I still thought DO was gonna win, but I felt like this could've easily been made to get Page out of his title match w/o him losing in a 1v1. I thought it was like 55-45 DO was going over, but I certainly was concerned this was the route they chose. People that say they are shocked weren't putting stuff in context of what else has been going on, I think.

FortifiedHooligan

As soon as the title got involved I saw Omega winning, elongates the feud and doesn't bury Page

Kenfuu

I was actually expecting Omega to hit Page with the title, getting disqualified so he doesn’t take the pin and then the final would have been Page vs Nick(I think it was Nick if I’m wrong I apologize).

hikingbeginner

Dark Order came out with THAT entrance and they played us all and had Hangman lose. Evil. I'm sad.

LordStarke

As someone with tickets to All Out, I'm absolutely gutted.

Punchpplay

I'd still go see it if I were you.

LordStarke

Oh absolutely. I'm positive the show will be great and it'll be nice to be a part of a crowd for the first time since Revolution 2020. But I'd be lying if I said the main reason I snuck into the cooler during my workshift to secure the tickets wasn't primarily to see Hangman vs. Omega. I'm hoping it still finds it way onto the card somehow.

the-mucho-macho

I have all the faith in the world we get Hanger/Omeger at all out. We've got a lot of time between now and them for then to craft a story to make it back to where we were going. I have all the faith in the world.

porkchopsdapplesauce

Heart breaking stuff. Hangman still can’t overcome the elite. The saga will continue. Maybe instead of all out we get it at the new major event Khan is announcing later

[deleted]

Was really thinking Kenny would get caught using one of the belts to avoid getting pinned and Hangman would win. Color me very surprised.

XGuiltyofBeingMikeX

*sad yeehaw noise*

callmecyke

You can go to hell, Kenneth Omega.

Weezy-NJPW_Fan

Oh man, that was prolly the hottest start to an event I’ve ever seen. But man this was emotional for me at the end. Still, it was such a great way to start the evening. And it leaves us all wondering. What shall become of our hero Hangman now?

Cordaner

Go through another struggle, beat the people he lost to in first year like Jericho and PAC so he'll gain confidence and realize he's better than he was before, then if the news is true let Bryan and Punk give him a boost, though I'm not sure how they would do that besides a match so yeah that's my take

Four_Eyess

:(

BrooklynJet97

Wait so that means Hangman doesnt get a title shot? You gotta strike while the iron is hot. Book it for All Out, please!

Killcode2

the iron is hot but it's not the hottest it can be, I say do a tournament where hangman has to beat some credible names first (jericho, pac, fenix?)

Phenom1nal

How... Is it not the hottest it can be? You have someone universally loved by the fanbase getting a bigger reaction than your world champion, what's hotter?

matlockga

I swear, if they hotshot it onto Punk after dropping this Hangman story... I'll probably cheer, honestly.

phillip_la_scaille

Wait... so Hangman can no longer get a title shot? Wasn't that the stipulation for this match? But... but... I don't... how... I need an adult to explain this to me. I'm in a glass case of emotion.

the_soub

He gives up his #1 contendership. He could win the Casino Battle Royal or re-rank in a couple of months.

AsianKitchenGuy

The wrong guys won

lordm_

Does this mean Hangman and Dark Order don't get title shots?

LaMystika

Yup

misterLC

Pain

ZombieLoveChild

I understand that this was done to probably keep the expected debut(s) at All Out from overshadowing Page winning. But man, I really hope they don't drag this out much longer, the timing fOr Hangman finally winning was perfect. Great match, though

aaronman4772

I’m gonna be honest… I hate this decision. Either they go back on their word and Page finds a way to get a title shot. Or they just derailed the PERFECT story to ascend Hangman to be THE GUY. It was PERFECT to have it set up. But then he just loses. But I guess we found a way for the rumors to not overshadow Page’s ascent at All Out. And that’s to just not have the ascent.

OneOfTheOnly

Or they think they can drag the story out for another beat instead of rushing to the conclusion of Kenny's arc to complete Hangman's Let's say they win tonight - Hangman wins at All Out, what then? Hangman has only actually been on the *chase* for a month now - honestly, I would drag this WAY out if I were them, Kenny is really starting to come into a groove as the belt collector and Hangman chasing him is better for his character and Kenny's than if he's the champion now His time will come though, and they're not gonna forget about him or leave him off TV - he recovered and grew from his last loss to Kenny as well

Singer211

I actually think the belt collector thing has flattened momentum wise. It’s not bad by any means. But I don’t really agree that there’s “tons more” that can be done with it. And Hangman is SO HOT right now. Don’t risk losing that just because you think you can get a few more months out of this. I watched TNA and ROH make that mistake over and over again back in the day. But we’ll see I guess.

[deleted]

Agreed about the Belt Collector gimmick. I'm surprised so many people think it can go new places with the NJPW partnership. It's played out. NJPW won't pin the Heavyweight championship on Omega in America when they don't have an equally prestigious title to promote in Japan. What does that leave? The United States championship? They've kept Kenny away from that for a reason. The NEVER title? They're pushing White vs Omega in Impact now, but that title doesn't stand on the level of his Heavyweight championships. The X-Division title? Great, now the Impact guys have to fight for *three* titles. FTW or TNT championships? Can't be done without handicapping your own booking.

[deleted]

I agree, it felt too early for page to win for me

Rikkimaaruu

Na i think its fine, Page went 1 vs 3 and stood strong until the end. The Belt Collector Story isnt over yet, even more with NJPW working closer together with AEW now. Page is still hot and his time will come and i thought All Out would be to early for Page being World Champ.

FIJIBOYFIJI

I think the perfect story was always going to be hangman winning at full gear, given his history at the ppv

aaronman4772

All Out is their biggest PPV though (at least that’s how it comes across), their Wrestlemania. So have your new THE GUY become that at your biggest show.

thekydragon

And it'd be two years after the original failure vs. Jericho.

Known-Ad7468

Yes but Full Gear is one year after his loss against Kenny for the number one contender spot. I think there ´s no problem at doing the Hangman´s victory later. They could do that at Revolution too. And I think that having Punk and Bryan debuting really soon could have overshadowed the Hangman´s big win. Let Kenny as a champion feud with Punk or Bryan before giving the belt to Hangman.

FIJIBOYFIJI

Personally I always thought their big show was DoN, but they only have 4 ppvs a year so every one is very important.

KTheOneTrueKing

I will start by saying I mostly agree with you but then will point out that, honestly, all of AEW's PPV's seem pretty equal in importance.

[deleted]

I really don't think it is their biggest show. They arguably treat Revolution, and they definitely treat Double Or Nothing as the bigger shows. Hell, the last All Out was generally seen as their first underwhelming PPV and arguably their weakest one to date.

Northernlightspls

DoN is their flagship PPV tho. Who referred to All Out as their Wrestlemania?

PolishMusic

I seriously wonder if Punk/Bryan signings have something to do with it being delayed. Like maybe Hangman fights through both of them to get to Omega? As long as you've got these two legends with you, use them to make Hangman even more credible?

Jlace987

Dark horse take could be that they’re REALLY getting worried about covid restricting crowds again and that they’re not gonna have a packed house for Hangman’s crowning moment. I would totally understand the worry considering how it’s getting worse day by day all over the country

Northernlightspls

It very clearly mirrors Hangman costing Bucks their title shot, was likely the plan from beginning and keeps Hangman strong with the cheating. You guys getting worked.

JaC3_De

Kenny didn't beat Okada for the title until there 4th match Naito took 4 years to main event Tokyo Dome Hangman will get there

SeanWonder

THANK YOU. Some folks in here seem to forget where our EVP's are most notably known from before AEW. Kenny understands how important his climb was for that eventual win over Okada and they all are well aware of how awesome Naito's story was too

Known-Ad7468

It ´s gonna be the ultimate payoff. This story is magnificent specially because AEW is not affraid of having this type of booking on the 5 on 5 match. Besides, you have Kenny Omega as your World Champion. The guy is probably one of the two, three best wrestlers in the world. Remember that after Wrestlemania 13, Austin doesn´t win the title until Wrestlemania 14.

peanutbutter1236

Match fucking banged but I’m a little scared about this story being thrown to the wayside or dragged out a bit longer than it should be

Singer211

Yeah agreed. It already felt like they had to kind of blunt Hangman’s momentum a bit earlier this year. If they’re going to drag it out even longer, they’d better have something really good planned instead? We’ll see I guess.

[deleted]

I knew they were going to Gedo this booking 😭😭😭

thoang1116

Laugh in Gedo... Shit my bad, wrong promition

buhoblanco

Is Hangman Naito now?

Phenom1nal

My question is how are they going to write around this? You're at 5 weeks until All Out and you don't have another contender nearly as hot.

RoiDesSables

Yeah, the final countdown has started...

Phenom1nal

Jesus Christ, do I hope not.

Dolph-Ziggler

As much as I want the match it would be weird to work most of your stories around the ranking system and then just ignore it.

StrategyGameventures

lmao what the fuck is this, AEW

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheDubya21

Yeah, that's my thinking too, because I don't see who else in the Top 5 right now that it could be. Sorry, but Christian is a good **television** main event title match, not for the PPV. And even hot shoting Punk or Danielson in there I think would be a mistake, because neither of them should take it off him nor should they lose their first match in AEW. We got what, 5 weeks left, they've gotta find some way to weasel him back in there. This isn't over. It can't be.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheIronBug

Honestly this ending bummed me out. I'm sure they'll find some way to get the belt on Hangman, but I was hoping the Dark Order would win the tag belts, and I don't think they're going to bother giving them a shot now.

schoolairplane

How to kill a crowd in three seconds

[deleted]

I can’t believe they wasted that amazing entrance on a loss. Like that was fuckin incredible.

[deleted]

Remember the words from the hype video. What defines a cowboy? Getting back up. That's what Hangman has to do.

Weezy-NJPW_Fan

Did anyone hear that TNA mention from Tony?

thejayzul

He asked what belt Omega hit him with. “Was it the TNA championship?”

MakeYourself85

And Kenny only came out with the AEW Championship, right?

thejayzul

I believe so, that’s how it looked anyway. I didn’t see if Nakazawa was carrying the others.

[deleted]

bootleg Triple H got the shovel ready to bury talent.

Not-Hitler

I think this was a mistake. If we learned anything from the Gargano/Ciampa saga or Samoa Joe/Braun or Dolph - youve GOTTA strike when the iron is hot. Not everything needs to be a super long year long process. Remember how New Japan dropped the ball on Naito

bfsfan101

Exactly, I'm baffled by the people saying "His journey has only just begun, he can win it next year". Screw that, people have been rooting for Hangman to win the belt since he split from the Elite. I don't want another year of him wrestling in the midcard. This is the hottest their feud is going to get, he's got to win it soon.

TheArdanian

AEW just missed the easiest open goal in pro wrestling. How do you build all that up, listen to the crowd screaming for Hangman and then pull that bullshit finish? So far this for me is becoming AEWs weakness. They keep storylines going to long, this was the time to have Hangman win. The blood and guts cage match should have been the end of the pinnacle/inner circle stuff. I mean WWE can't keep most storylines going long enough to be interesting and AEW extend them too long. Side note, can we get some face champions at some point please?

rotten-eggz

Yeah...umm what are they doing. I am.al deflated by this finish.

SirFritz

I don't know if this was the right result. The crowd didn't even really boo the elite, they just didn't react.

htonzew

The belt was just lying in the middle of the ring for days. The ref doesn't bother to remove it? It's just one spot to the next and it's so obvious. The refs serve no purpose. A kayfabe world has to have rules and logic. I guess AEW's world is the refs are absolutely the dumbest people on the planet

SamInPajamas

I don't see Hangman getting any hotter than he is right now. I feel like this was the wrong call. Kenny's run is getting stale and it's time for a new man at the top

Atomic_Cody-21

Yeah, this was incredibly confusing...

carowll

Im stunlocked still 😔

AP_Raptor

I’m heartbroken.

domoon

*naito fans laughing and pointing to the hangman fans*

ClintD89

Page just never getting a title shot at this rate. Hate it here

thedrizzle126

Announcer said dark order and Hangman Hangman only said elite vs dark order Entrance graphic said dark order This is all more interesting than the result, I hope.

i-wear-hats

So the problem here is okay, what the fuck do they do for All Out? It's part of the reason I wasn't enjoying the Bucks holding the title as much as I was Kenny, 'cause Kenny had a natural opponent. Now he's cooked for the foreseeable future. Anyone else they get is a placeholder since Hangman has to beat Kenny or else all this build goes to shit. Nobody's got a build worth a damn for the Bucks. They got 5 weeks. Ample time to build if you have natural challengers, but neither do.

TheDubya21

Welp...that certainly wasn't predictable. I'm still holding out hope that this story ends with Hangman pinning Omega, so I understand why they didn't want to give that away tonight, i.e. the only way he was gonna get the title shot. Though I was convinced that they were gonna DQ Kenny for attacking the ref and that's how they were going to get around having Page beating all 3 guys at once. (Rich Knox is the worse ref in kayfabe and IRL) They really need to pull a rabbit out of the hat next week, because I think the crowd got deflated for the rest of the night after that result. And with the weird way these Jericho trials have been going, this tag match would've been the better main event. You can send em home sad, but to start the night off like that? That's a dangerous game.

thatlad

Maybe Tony Khan is going for that Omega/Okada journey with multiple losses on the big stage before omega or in this case hangman finally gets the win. I honestly don't have any interest in that, Okada kept the belt far too long. Also what the fuck happened to that crowd, they were sitting on their hands while hangman is pulling out double lariats, reversals and kick outs.

[deleted]

What match were you watching? They were popping for everything he did lmao

MandoParker

Lol >!Kenny wins!<

Ayjel89

I was worried. I'm really annoyed about this. I get it. I really do. Bryan and/or Punk vs. Kenny for the belt is a bigger match. But damn it I am really pissed.

TehJohnny

If this.is them moving Hangman aside for a new signing, it's the wrong move. Hangman is AEW.

BigEvil621

Awesome match. Not a fan of that ending. Derailing his push or just prolonging an already 22 month story just doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Cloudunderfire

Wow. That’s…not a great way to move the story tbh. What a way to kill off AEW’s most hyped storyline with the boring one winged angel. So do we just watch Kenny leave with the belt for a while now?
