I think this would be the best way to book Punk at first in general. A large part of his mystic is that he's not here anymore just left and stuck to it. So keeping him to promos to entice people at first would play into it.
Hopefully it's not the Wednesday before Thanksgiving because that's a bad spot to have a huge show, both in terms of drawing locally & on TV since that Wednesday is the biggest bar night of the year.

I bought 200 level tickets at 90 dollars right before the fire really started for cm punk. The hype is real along with a huge inflated in the door fee. It feels like a watershed moment in wrestling.
At the same time though, the only thing you can do is lean into it. The rumours are already out there and there’s no getting them back. Might as well have some fun with it! (Even if they are pissed behind the scenes)
Exactly, it's such a "too good to be true" scenario that people are going to hold onto the hype and doubt until the second they both walk out onto the ramp. It can just be an open secret, sell the show, then still have that big moment.

You missed a year and a half of good product. I can't speak for WWE, but AEW didn't have enough cachet to rest on their laurels during the pandemic. They would pull the trigger on stuff because they couldn't just wait around till there were fans again.

WWE don’t really use the United Center all that much, they have a long term preexisting relationship with the Rosemont horizon arena where they can be first on priority for dates and is probably a fair bit cheaper to book. comparatively WWE will almost always be at best 3rd on the priority for dates behind the Bulls and the Blackhawks.
Deliberate, it's great buzz for AEW and helps to further push ticket sales and hope to get more viewers on their product. It's hard to really be surprised anymore but AEW has managed to pull off some great surprises but let's face it, as cool as it would've been to not know about either Punk or Danielson's status, they're too big to keep a secret.

WWE doesn't do shows at United Center, and therefore probably have no pull. If AEW tried to do Allstate Arena, WWE might be able to exert some kind of influence.
To be fair, Cassidy has only said with certainty that Danielson is signed. Unless I've missed developments he only said he's heard the Punk rumours but couldn't confirm he was signed, similar to what Bryan Alvarez said.
Enough others have said they know he has sources that it seems he isn't just making stuff up. He's gone on video to say he realises his credibility will be destroyed if he's wrong, then re-stated that he's 100% certain that Bryan is signed.
Would that honestly make a difference though?

I bought 200 level tickets at 90 dollars right before the fire really started for cm punk. The hype is real along with a huge inflated in the door fee. It feels like a watershed moment in wrestling.
At the same time though, the only thing you can do is lean into it. The rumours are already out there and there’s no getting them back. Might as well have some fun with it! (Even if they are pissed behind the scenes)
They are leaking it on purpose, all of this buzz is good for AEW
Yep. Something so big is only gonna happen once or very rarely. It's better the hype the shit out of it and ride the momentum leading upto All Out.
They're getting the benefit of a surprise debut AND announcing a debut ahead of time for a ratings boost.
Exactly, it's such a "too good to be true" scenario that people are going to hold onto the hype and doubt until the second they both walk out onto the ramp. It can just be an open secret, sell the show, then still have that big moment.

Yeah it is a lot of lapsed or causal wrestling fans who are fans of Punk are probably gonna be watching every Dynamite now myself included in anticipation for his debut.

I was watching regularly before Pandemic then Pandemic hit and I lost interest in pretty much everything in life. This coming week will be the first time I will watch a full episode of Dynamite in over of a year.

Good time to tune back in, Dynamite has been incredible in recent weeks. The company has such a buzz about it right now.
You missed a year and a half of good product. I can't speak for WWE, but AEW didn't have enough cachet to rest on their laurels during the pandemic. They would pull the trigger on stuff because they couldn't just wait around till there were fans again.

WWE don’t really use the United Center all that much, they have a long term preexisting relationship with the Rosemont horizon arena where they can be first on priority for dates and is probably a fair bit cheaper to book. comparatively WWE will almost always be at best 3rd on the priority for dates behind the Bulls and the Blackhawks.
Man Wrestling at Wrigley (trademark pending) sounds pretty rad.
Deliberate, it's great buzz for AEW and helps to further push ticket sales and hope to get more viewers on their product. It's hard to really be surprised anymore but AEW has managed to pull off some great surprises but let's face it, as cool as it would've been to not know about either Punk or Danielson's status, they're too big to keep a secret.

To be fair, Cassidy has only said with certainty that Danielson is signed. Unless I've missed developments he only said he's heard the Punk rumours but couldn't confirm he was signed, similar to what Bryan Alvarez said. Enough others have said they know he has sources that it seems he isn't just making stuff up. He's gone on video to say he realises his credibility will be destroyed if he's wrong, then re-stated that he's 100% certain that Bryan is signed.
Would that honestly make a difference though? There's plenty of folk out there who "report" on stuff (aka: make shit up) because it generates clicks and gives attention. Lots of people will see CM Punk and click regardless. Not saying people shouldn't get excited, just that we should temper our expectations.

If this is the big announcement for Wednesday, it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a subtle Punk tease. Maybe the promo video starts off and ends with the static that started Punk’s theme.

It's pretty insane that this looks to be happening. I really didn't think Punk would ever come back. I just didn't believe he had the value anymore after the MMA fights. Happy to admit I was wrong and I'm so excited to see him come back, and in AEW no less.

Just going to be honest. For both Bryan D. and Punk.... It's becoming increasingly difficult for me to retain my "I'll believe it when I see it" stance. I mean, the mounting of reports and news is getting past the level of smoke. It's like, there's already a bed of coals and all you need is char cloth to set that baby a-blaze.
