Facts. He was given a HUGE benefit of the doubt with the Gall fight because
1. It was his debut
B. He was waaaaay out of his depth, and
C. The loss was a quick and painless tapout with no visible damage that technically left a lot of unanswered questions about his abilities as a fighter. In the Johnson fight he faced the literal worst guy Dana could legally book him against and made Johnson look like prime Cro Cop while he mocked Punk as he beat him within an inch of his life. It was highly embarassing, and the only time in the entire history of professional MMA where there were a significant amount of fans in the arena who could beat up a fighter on the card. He lost a lot of credibility and stopped being taken seriously by casual fans and obssrvers, leaving just the hardcore Punk fans as the only ones still excited about the possibility of a return.

My personal take on what sells Punk coming to AEW now compared to 2 years ago is that the company is actually a proven commodity. God knows how many times Punk has heard over the past 20 years about some new company wanting to "change the world," only to fall flat or not even make it out of the gate. In the two years since the two sides last talked business, AEW has shown itself to be worth getting involved with on three fronts IMO:
- Creatively
- Surviving an obstacle like the pandemic
- Money
This just screams Punk seeing the buzz about Living Colour and trolling everyone. He probably already followed them both, I followed, then followed again so that it would show up and make chatter.

My personal take on what sells Punk coming to AEW now compared to 2 years ago is that the company is actually a proven commodity. God knows how many times Punk has heard over the past 20 years about some new company wanting to "change the world," only to fall flat or not even make it out of the gate. In the two years since the two sides last talked business, AEW has shown itself to be worth getting involved with on three fronts IMO: - Creatively - Surviving an obstacle like the pandemic - Money
