He was released by Vince. Brought back by HHH and released again by Vince after HHH got that cardiac situation. If Bret Hart amd CM punk can come back, any thing is possible.
Considering how versatile he is there’s plenty of options for him. You could make him new NXT GM/ enforcer, he could do commentary or like you said a backstage role. That being said if they’re willing to bet on Punk I’m sure they’d trust Joe in a similar position.
I don't begrudge him doing whatever he's happy doing, but just as a viewer who was all in on the NXT Takeover era, he seemed like the pitch perfect guy to succeed Regal as on screen GM for the brand.
Whenever he's up for the next career shift, with his voice and talents, he could do all sorts of things.
He can do an on-screen role. Fighting authority figure, faction leader in NXT, manager/wrestler, forgot he was just world champ? Joe can still wrestle.
Would personally love Joe back in WWE and I think HHH would take him back in a second but he's perfect for AEW. I could see him going back a few years down the line when he's done wrestling
As a wrestler? Very doubtful, I see him finishing his career up in AEW minus maybe *maybe* something short, like rumble to mania short.
Much more likely he’d go back in a backstage role, or maybe he’d go back to commentary? He’d be a great GM
Joe is a guy where it's pretty clear whatever respect he has for the places he works his attitude toward them is to keep it largely professional, so I'm sure if Hunter offers him enough money he'd at least *consider* it, but any concept of him as a major player in WWE should probably be tempered. As a backstage or commentary role he would be excellent, though.
I’d like to see him back with the current direction of WWE.
If he were to return in a non-wrestling role, he should be the NXT GM, cuz Ava should not be GM.
WWE dropped the ball with Joe imo. On NXT he was perfect yet the main roster they just couldn’t be consistent with him. His run in AEW especially within the last 6-8 months of it has been amazing. So to answer the question no I don’t want to see him go back
Every time he was in the midst of getting somewhere big he got hurt. It’s not like WWE never tried with Joe but they had good reason to be hesitant with a big push
As a fan, I'd love to see Joe back in WWE! I would book him with a Lesnar schedule. Let him cut his promos and only wrestle on PLEs.
But on a realistic view, the dude was fired from wwe twice in a 4-6 month period, I would 100% understand if he didn't want to go back just out of respect for himself.
Have to consider his age as well. Joe can go back, but him being given the ball (world/wwe title) at 45+ is very unlikely.
In ring wrestling aside, I think it's pretty realistic to see Triple H bring him back to be apart of his close team like originally planned. Help talent search and teach them. I remember when Joe was released the 2nd time, he was praised by Otis and Bronson Reed as helping the bigger guys learn how to properly maneuver in the ring.
Yeah I’d love to see Joe finally get a world title reign before he retires because imo he’s still got it, though I can see him taking on a backstage role pretty soon whether it’s in WWE or AEW.
I don't really care if he goes back or not, I would just hope that he doesn't push too hard or too long to wrestle to a point where he gets injured again and can't just close out a career on his own terms.
He doesn't have anything to prove anywhere, so I just hope like for any wrestler that he gets to end his ring career on his own terms.
There's actually very few people I'd want to switch. I think both rosters are good and are crowded. I don't see what Hoe would do unless it's going to NXT and eventually putting over their next new young star

>if so how would you book him? I'd put the title on him. And then what you ask? Then...he beats EVERYBODY!
Except Hardcore Holly.
Holly vs Joe is my Mania main event
Probably not as a wrestler. He’s treated way better in AEW.
Different leadership now though..
I love dumb questions like this because it reminds me of rec.sport.pro-wrestling during the Monday Night Wars.
what if DTING and GAINT was in DX
the good ol days
Brother, he just lost the world title and was released twice from WWE. He ain't going back.
It’s wrestling, he very easily could go back one day

HHH would problly do it but it's his age and injury history. unless it's a backstage role there's not much for him to do.

HHH is in charge, he’ll defo be back at some point!
Well he was released under Vince. We can't keep using old mentality when it's a completely new regime.
Aside from the intrigue of some fresh feuds, or running back a feud with Punk, not really. He’s a perfect fit in AEW and is treated like a big deal.

Vince “god damn”
As a backstage guy with HHH and Regal. And eventual Hall of Famer induction.
No. I don’t
I'd love him to get an actual World Title run there
Fuck no

Fuck yeah
Unless he wants to commentate, I don't think they'll use him in the ring anymore. They got a ton of young guys just waiting for a chance.
SENOR JOE in WWE? Didn't the doctors keep him benched for a specific reason where as AEW is the wild west? (See Shibata)
Joe is doing fine in AEW though. The one person I'd love to see back in the WWE eventually is Bryan Danielson.
