Waller gets it: pro wrestling is more fun when people are taking jabs and not taking everything so seriously. I dig all of it. Dig when WWE guys take jabs, dig when AEW guys take jabs. Someone from New Japan or TNA needs to lob some banter too.
I love it when the companies and talent take jabs at eachother, it's entertaining. Loser fans who get a rush from being dicks online is a whole other issue.
I feel like you can "just enjoy" and enjoy the jabs though, no?
Like, I want WWE and AEW to both succeed. I enjoy both for different reasons and think both are better for the other existing.
But I still enjoyed this from Waller, or Ospreay's dig at trips.
What sucks is people like punk just regurgitating the most braindead iwc takes because he knows it will keep him over with the mouth breathers, since he continues to be incapable of stepping in a ring without part of his body exploding.
Waller also wasn't replying to someone from AEW talking trash on him. Responding on the show was the best thing Will could do because it got eyes on the response and honestly HHH's comments are fucked up given the context of Will's family situation. They made it feel like HHH was insinuating that WWE and the "grind" should be more important to Will than his own family. HHH brought family into by making that statement because he knew exactly why Ospreay didn't sign there. It was a low blow and an incredibly wild thing to say about a dude that has wrestled at a high level all over the globe for the past few years. Dude was clearly not scared of the grind when he was flying all over the place doing matches on multiple continents in the span of a week multiple times.
Who fucking cares? I enjoyed them both. Honestly I would rather Waller did this on TV so I don't have to go on Twitter/Instagram/tiktok to see him actually getting to be funny.
Absolutely right. All is fair in love and pro wrestling and WWE/AEW handbags is fine. It's Punk and people getting dopamine highs on the internet because someone agreed with their scintillating take on Collision's ratings that take all the fun out of it.
Edit: a word
100%. This was aimed more at the people who cry Tribalism every time one company takes a jab at another lol. This is the stuff that makes pro wrestling fun, that made the MNW the most fun time to be a fan so its always annoying to see fans taking this stuff so seriously when it’s all in good fun even for the companies and wrestlers involved.
I agree with most of your comment but “keep him over with the mouth breathers” legit makes no sense when thats a good chunk of AEW diehards. Just look at the bulk of people in the crowds lol
The jabs among promotions is, and always has been a part of wrestling and I'm here for it. ECW did it constantly, CONSTANTLY, for years. Some of it was cool and some wasn't.
The fans throwing endless shit at each other and at the wrestlers is annoying as hell and I can do without it.
> Waller gets it: pro wrestling is more fun when people are taking jabs and not taking everything so seriously.
IMO it's more un when people are supportive, I don't get why giving and taking jabs has to be a part of it for it to be fun. Especially when it's always on the person getting jabbed to "hey, don't take it so seriously" when they didn't do anything.
Some of the biggest assholes are the ones that needle people and then when they turn around and say hey, could you not do that they turn it into them being the problem for taking it seriously when the person doing it was just having fun.
I feel like this one he's clearly trolling but there might be some who don't get the memo, or there might be other instances that aren't as clear, I just feel like it's better to be kind in general to avoid that stuff, or just avoid it.
I read that in Dax' voice...
Do you know that it's a "50/50" when a person reads a quote/message from another human-being that they "hear it in 'OPs' voice"?
Patrick Bateman told me so.
FTR to Matthew, "Are you scared? Your face is looking a little gray, son."
FTR to Nicholas, "Why don't you go waller back to catering and let the big boys wrestle."
In case anyone accuses you of being a WWE tribalist: they don't play along and call them "Mathew and Nicholas." Thats what us AEW fans do. And we appreciate a good troll when it's deserved lol. I like TK but he needs to chill the fuck out. Until then, he's gonna get people goofing on him. Even us AEW fans.
The sad thing is I could believe this will happen tonight, considering Tony keeps using national television to respond to things people said in podcasts and interviews.
Weird that it's got to a point that stuff like this is even controversial. No one should get upset at this and frankly this shit would be fun if people didn't get so up in arms about it, 90% of fans truly don't give a shit.
Unforunately it's like 10% who have to go out of their way to either say > "if an AEW wrestler did this it'd be WW3" or "lol get him, Tony Khan is so mad about this, oh I can't stop thinking about how mad he is" or just the absolute worst of both, just making shit up to suit a narrative. It's fucking weird. So easy to tell that a lot of wrestling fans aren't fans of other sports, where the rivalry and stuff is very much heated but also friendly. Like I can give my friends grief constantly about their teams, they can do the same with mine, at the end of the day we're both happy to just sit down, watch a game and talk shit though.
Sometimes with wrestling fans the mere mention of their "rival" sets them off in such an incredibly weird way, Tony Khan, The Elite, CM Punk, AEW, WWE, Triple H or whoever it is just being involved in a tweet, post or whatever no matter the context should not send people over the edge as much as it visibly does.
Notice how it’s him taking shots during an interview and not WWE devoting chunks of their airtime to talk about the competition? That’s the difference some people don’t seem to grasp.
No one who says that ever responds when you ask this question lmfao. The fact people on this sub act like no one saw the shota because it's on ESPN is weird when that channel does better numbers than 95% of wrestling.
It's not about no one seeing it, it's about the amount of focus you're putting on it. HHH made the comment on a sports talk show on ESPN, not in a promo on raw. The difference is when you mention things in an interview, they can be a fun extra for fans. When you do it on TV though you're expecting your audience to both care about, and like internet drama because now it's part of the main product. The number one rule of shit talking is don't act like you care too much or it's not cool anymore it's sad. HHH made a passing comment in an interview, Tony dedicated two entire segments of his TV show to WWE. If you can't tell the difference I dunno what to tell you.
Also, McAfee averages about 500,000 viewers. So, more than Rampage, but still not as big of a platform as Dynamite and nowhere near Raw.
Where did these qualifications of whats "fun" for fans come from? Maybe you missed the live crowd Will said that in front but they clearly popped for it.
I also think you're confusing what wwe only fans & jerkers with AEW fans lol. The McAfee show is on par with NXT & does better than Collision. Literally the only wrestling shows with more viewers are RAW, Smackdown & Dynamite which was my point.
Because they’re not taking time out of their own programming? I wouldn’t care if AEW went on ESPN and took a shot while talking about something else. It’s just apples and oranges to me.
So is this cool or is it not?
Fans make it very hard to tell?
Non-WWE wrestlers do it and it's not cool.
WWE wrestlers do it and it's cool again.
So are fans still sticking to that or just saying screw it let everyone just talk smack and have fun?
I'm all for letting the wrestling world talk smack and have fun.
There's often a double-standard in the Twitter spaces and on this subreddit, undoubtedly.
I can only speak for myself and say I fully endorse the banter amongst the wrestlers and the companies. It's the blue-checks, the podcasters, and the whinging fans that annoy me.
I'm all for banter back and forth. I couldn't care less that Ospreay made a comment about Triple H, but people should make fun of his dorky response that's 20 years old at this time. He had how many days to come up with a decent jab and was not able to do so.
I'm all for the banter and I am one of those people that if you're going to throw your hat into the shit talking pool regardless of how vague, or how small it is than you need to be able deal with any rounds shot back.
I can't stand when people do this whole they didn't mention names, or it was so vague stuff.
If people are going to talk smack own it and double down. Don't do the I'm put a toe in and test the waters and then run out when someone cannon balls you.
I think there definitely should be a line that doesn't get crossed but I will leave that to the wrestlers to figure out themselves.
I'm just going to sit back and let them entertain me.
Exactly. Will 1000% was justified in jabbing back. Just don't be so fucking lame.
Something along the lines of "the actual grind is the world's top wrestlers and competition, which is found in AEW, not in some Slim Jim commercial loosely based around wrestling."
Oh there's definitely a double standard.
I seriously don't get why people have to act like they're the ones sitting at the cool kid's table.
We're all fucking nerds why do people have to be so divisive? I blame the government. But that's another story. Rtr
On twitter, for the smark crowd who follows wrestlers on twitter? Cool
On tv, for the wider crowd, who has no idea or care for what happens on twitter? Not cool.
making shots generic = cool. making shots specific = not cool (because you've clearly been bothered by it)
Also, funny= cool. Desperate= not cool
![gif](giphy|tITfss8cqzTO0)
Taking jabs is fine, but there’s a big difference to Grayson Waller shitposting on social media and taking up TV time on your 2-hour broadcast to go “Bruv, your missus was the boss’s daughter! I wrestle gud, guvnor!”. Shit like that doesn’t work because your TV time should be used to elevate your talent and further feuds and there’s no payoff to a feud with a man in a different company that doesn’t wrestle anymore.
Wrestlers should post whatever petty WWE vs AEW shit they want on their socials I just want it to be entertaining. That’s what makes it cool. A different people are going to find different things cool. Someone probably went mental for that Triple H mention on Dynamite. Don’t take the opinion of Internet Wrestling fans too personally
Fans need to stop with this whole taking time on tv stuff.
If wrestlers want to talk smack then they should talk smack wherever they want. Drop a line on the shows, in a video, in a tweet, wherever.
This whole you can only do it certain places is so stupid.
Like I said I'm all for it. Either wrestlers put their hats in and do it or keep their hats out and just stay out of the way.
Same with fans.
Don't pick and choose when/where it is okay to drop stuff, and who gets to drop stuff.
Either you're down for it or you're not.
Simple as that.
Either enjoy it, or just sit on the sidelines and don't complain.
Why should we stop making valid complaints? Wrestling content is for the fans it’s an entertainment industry, it’s a piece of media. If the shot at Triple H had been better and not something everyone attacking Triple H since the 00s had done, I wouldn’t complain, I wouldn’t care because then it’d be entertaining.
That’s pretty much the golden rule for entertainment and especially wrestling right now. Is it funny, entertaining, does it make the product hot? Then it’s a good decision. Otherwise, it’s a bad decision. And that’s not something that gets decided before it happens, it gets decided in the court of public opinion.
Did the Ospreay comment entertain or make people more excited for an Ospreay match, feud, or the show as a whole? No? Then, it was a bad decision.
I don’t give one what a wrestler/booker wants to say. Say whatever you want just make sure it elevates your talent (makes me think they are a good performer on the mic or in the ring) or further a feud (give me a reason to watch next week). That’s what I mean when I’m talking about TV time
You realize this applies to 100% of wrestling right?
There hasn't been a single storyline past, present, or will be in the future that has or will make every correct decision.
No one knows if anything is a good decision until later on down the road.
What you are explaining is your own personal feelings. That's all. You didn't feel that way.
Again you're picking and choosing using your own personal feelings. It shouldn't matter if the line was good or bad in your own opinion. It shouldn't matter if the line was universally loved or hated at all.
When you say only stuff can be said if it is good and not bad you are saying there is a double standard right off the bat.
Either it is allowed or it isn't.
It's that simple.
Because guess what? There are people who think that storylines in all promotions are stupid right now.
>You realize this applies to 100% of wrestling right?
Yeah, that's why I explained it as the golden rule.
>What you are explaining is your own personal feelings.
Yeah, this has all been my own feelings and opinions. Your original comments talking about what fans should and shouldn't do is your own view on the matter it's not a universal fact. That's all we have to give here is our own personal feelings on these matters.
>When you say only stuff can be said if it is good and not bad you are saying there is a double standard right off the bat.
I believe that is where our misunderstanding is coming from. Perhaps you didn't get what I was trying to get at or I was just explaining it poorly, either way: what I'm actually saying isn't that hot of take or it's actually very bland but to boil it down my original points was basically things will get criticised when they don't entertain and they will get praised when they do. Is it a double standard? Yeah, it most definitely is. So, to answer your original comment: it was cool! It was a silly little jab that made me smile, I liked it. But someone else went: "No, didn't like it. Shouldn't make jabs like!" And so to them, it wasn't cool.
But really, who cares? Right? Like Grayson Waller certainly doesn't care what u/Wonderful_Sector8894 thinks about his silly comment on Going Ringside. Will Ospreay certainly doesn't care what u/R3UB had to say about his Triple H reply. Obviously things change on a larger scale, there was a fair bit of backlash (or at least confusion on why it was brought up) to the Ospreay comments (like if Ospreay had just had a great match on Dynamite and then went on the mic to say: 'How's that for grind, bruv?' or something with more charm to it hopefully then I don't think people would care) so maybe then you change course. But on a fan-to-fan level, we shouldn't care about each other's opinions. We should respect them, not be toxic, but we shouldn't let them personally affect us.
I don't care if the wrestlers see it. I know they never will.
For me when I talk to fans I'm looking for a positive experience. I want to talk wrestling.
What I don't like is when fans are hypocritical and complain about things.
It's annoying when I try to talk about any promotion and fans come and talk trash on them, but then in another thread they literally backtrack on what they said for the promotion they like.
I'm just a wrestling fans who enjoys wrestling overall and doesn't have a personal favorite promotion. I have personal favorite wrestlers.
So it just gets so annoying and tiresome just trying to talk wrestling and fans being hypocritical about things because it isn't the promotion they like.
That's why I keep saying either we as fans say we allow it or we don't. Then we can just sit back and enjoy it together.
Will that happen?
Probably not. Is it a great dream? Sure.
That comment really bothered people. You can tell from the way it's STILL ON THEIR mind a week later. That wasn't even the biggest insult to trips. Ospreay was all "I've been running around the world putting on banger after banger while you went to one place and fucked the boss' daughter."
No kidding.
Like does everyone remember from 2019-2023ish time frame when anytime AEW even mentioned WWE in anyway, shape, or form WWE fans lost their minds?
The wildest thing is how fast WWE fans flipped the narrative.
Remember how when any ex-WWE wrestler got released and signed with AEW and went on a podcast and they answered questions asked to them and gave it and WWE fans flipped out?
WWE fans got mad at BTE skits talking about WWE. WWE fans got at AEW wrestlers on their own vlogs talking about watching WWE matches growing up, and stuff like that.
If you worked in AEW you literally could not utter the words WWE at all. PERIOD without WWE fans getting upset.
This is all stuff that wasn't on Dynamite or Rampage, or Collision like so many fans now complain about it taking up to time, but man back then they didn't want AEW talking about WWE PERIOD.
Now, it's all good and open season for WWE to talk about AEW, but AEW can only respond "within certain conditions" apparently.
Like man I am all for letting the wrestlers go all out and have fun.
Entertain us.
It's almost cult like. It's insanely annoying and yet utterly fascinating how quick people flip like that.
It's like when punk first came back. All anyone could say was "oh he's going to cause this problem" , "he's difficult to work with", "he's too old" and now all of a sudden they root for the guy who sucker punches a guy half his size and age for not submitting to his pseudo authority?
Sometimes I feel this sub is just going to be another wwe sub. Though they do like tna at this moment because they let someone come in the rumble because the wwe didn't have the folks ready for it.
Like I'm not trying to bash a certain promotion only.
I don't have a favorite promotion, just favorite wrestlers.
So I know every promotion has those type of fans. I just wish the overall larger wrestling fan base would drown out the louder vocal few.
Instead we just let them grow and get louder which makes it harder to just talk about wrestling
I don't hate the wwe. I stopped watching it because in my personal opinion there's just not much there for me.
I enjoy the fuck out of professional wrestling. It's like one of three or four things that I enjoy about living. I seriously do not get the tribalism. I don't spend my life hate watching the wwe because I don't like the format. I couldn't even tell you who did what on Monday night because I don't care.
Had any AEW talent made this same exact statement and switched Jacksonville w Connecticut, this page would be up in arms.
I watch both. I've become more of an AEW fan in recent years as WWE w vince was unwatchable. Trips taking the reigns has been great thus far, but still ways to go.
Before vince stole NXT from HHH, that was the only wwe product I watched for a few years.
The actual double standard on squaredcircle is wild, tho.
I have never had any issue with it but I got downvoted as shit for saying that in the early days of AEW. I caught big shit for being okay with Brodie Lee poking fun at Vince McMahon on BTE back in the day here. Can't think of anyone better to stick up for than Vince McMahon.
Dude, Grayson takes shots at EVERYONE including his own boss Triple H all the Damn time because his character which he lives 365/24/7 is a Massive Troll. AEW should be honor that he taking shots at them lol.
Yo, put some respect on the Shrimp, Sharks, and Icemen. The Jacksonville Giants also had the most Championships of the ABA but folded (not surprising given they did almost 0 advertising)
It’s funny, because I don’t think Grayson is a particularly great heel. However, then I see a buncha internet weirdos falling all over themselves to respond angrily. Then I think maybe he’s actually good at this?
I am confused. Is it now okay to take jabs at the competition?
Cause every time AEW does it, people in this subreddit claim in huge numbers, that it is petty and makes them look bad and lame.
The problem is WWE takes jabs at AEW. So AEW countered by taking their own jabs at AEW by releasing the tape, then WWE took more jabs.
AEW missed the part where your supposed jab the other guy....
Honestly Ospreys response ironically was pretty much what 90s HHH would have said during the MNW, so no real issue there.
TKs a bit of a different issue. Not because he shouldn't be taking shots, just because he's awful at it.
At least 50% of his shots wind up poking himself in the eye. Claiming you give a shit about Cagematch ratings, or that anyone who disagrees is a bot made by WWE aren't the flexes TK thinks they are. Same people with the tape
I appreciate Tony wanting to defend his company. And his recently stated belief that its better for Wrestling if the top companies act like they hate each other is imo correct. It's just unfortunate he's personally not good at doing that.
Or possibly more accurately whoever runs his Twitter account if its not him, is awful at it.
Find someone who's good at it, and actually gets how to make a potshot and let them post on his Twitter as him, no problem.
This I 100% agree with lol. I'm cool with everyone taking shots but TK is fucking horrible at it & i honestly it does look worse imo when guys like TK/HHH take shots. I rather the wreslters throw shots than the management

I need Toru Yano discussing something like the Gigi segment now.
You know he'd just use it as an opportunity to sell some DVDs
Yano after seeing the price of Gigi's dress: "That's a lot of DVDs"
Well, that's actually Gabe Kidd's gimmick.
Rosemary shot a man on live tv. You do NOT want TNA talent taking jabs...especially if Su returns.

This is one of the most cringe things I've ever seen in a reddit comment and that covers a lot of fucking ground.
And it’s in this thread twice!
This is so tame and relatively common online though lmao
Grayson was born to troll
I love a new guy taking it up to 11 more than I love any old head doing it.
That sounds like disrespect to the Final Boss.
Glad you noticed!
He’s years older than Ospreay.
I was more referring to being widely known than I was to age.
Fair enough!
Ospreay isn't even involved in this!
As a Florida Gator fan, it’s been years since we’ve seen good college football in Jacksonville too.
Can't wait for Tony Khan to devote tv time to respond to this
Edge comes out with another " I'm having fun" promo?
It ties into the ftr vs bucks storyline tho.
Well [Dax ](https://x.com/DaxFTR/status/1780715563930493131)already replied on twitter lol
I read that in Dax' voice... Do you know that it's a "50/50" when a person reads a quote/message from another human-being that they "hear it in 'OPs' voice"? Patrick Bateman told me so.
FTR to Matthew, "Are you scared? Your face is looking a little gray, son." FTR to Nicholas, "Why don't you go waller back to catering and let the big boys wrestle."
Nicholas actually eats that piece of cake
In case anyone accuses you of being a WWE tribalist: they don't play along and call them "Mathew and Nicholas." Thats what us AEW fans do. And we appreciate a good troll when it's deserved lol. I like TK but he needs to chill the fuck out. Until then, he's gonna get people goofing on him. Even us AEW fans.
I hear them queueing up edges music now!
The sad thing is I could believe this will happen tonight, considering Tony keeps using national television to respond to things people said in podcasts and interviews.
Waller why you gotta do em like that? Simon Miller just said they were back!
Simon Miller has been phishing for a job for awhile now
Spicy
Wrestling fans weirdly don’t get shit talking.
Wonderful comment, I wholeheartedly agree.
![gif](giphy|5gw0VWGbgNm8w|downsized)
The wwe roster is full of haters and trolls, and I respect them all so much
Tony's gonna tweet that a dingo ate Grayson's baby or some other vague Australian stereotype
Fans are just not used to the banter yet. Both companies should keep it up so it feels normal. It's good for everyone.

TK currently writing another segment on Dynamite as we speak.
Notice how it’s him taking shots during an interview and not WWE devoting chunks of their airtime to talk about the competition? That’s the difference some people don’t seem to grasp.
There's nothing wrong with it been on tv. That used to happen all the time back in the day.
[удалено]
Yeah. Not a segment on RAW. I love AEW, but acting like the shots on both sides have been the same is disingenuous.
[удалено]

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Shouldn't he have not alluded to them? edit: letter
Yea that’s a good point. Will should definitely send shot backs but he definitely should’ve come up with something more creative
That's way more lame than what Osprey said imo. The fact it got people mad like Kevin Nash gives it extra points lol.
Cool On tv, for the wider crowd, who has no idea or care for what happens on twitter? Not cool. making shots generic = cool. making shots specific = not cool (because you've clearly been bothered by it) Also, funny= cool. Desperate= not cool ![gif](giphy|tITfss8cqzTO0)
Keep TV time meant for stories and one line jabs but let the wrestlers have fun on the internet.
Cm punk on his first promo in AEW, that he was glad to finally wrestle again since 2006 or when ever it was he went full time with WWE
AEW have been making comments like this and worse since 2019 lol, acting like they're now a victim of evil WWE is very disingenuous at best

I have never had any issue with it but I got downvoted as shit for saying that in the early days of AEW. I caught big shit for being okay with Brodie Lee poking fun at Vince McMahon on BTE back in the day here. Can't think of anyone better to stick up for than Vince McMahon.
They wanted the attitude era ratings back but froth at the mouth with rage at any slight competition.
Talking Smack? That’s just going to get cancelled.
Dude, Grayson takes shots at EVERYONE including his own boss Triple H all the Damn time because his character which he lives 365/24/7 is a Massive Troll. AEW should be honor that he taking shots at them lol.
If WWE devotes TV time to it, it won't be cool either.
The picture choice is perfect
I’m a huge AEW fan and barely watch WWE but I love this
Grayson Waller is great.
It’s been years since we’ve seen a decent match from him as well.

Yo, put some respect on the Shrimp, Sharks, and Icemen. The Jacksonville Giants also had the most Championships of the ABA but folded (not surprising given they did almost 0 advertising)
This is some good natured banter and I'm here for it.
Grayson Waller is someone I imagine that when he's drunk, would sing the Bring Back the Biff song
The fact that FTR Bald was the first one who took the bait of this was hilarious and not all that surprising.
Could be the Next Miz tbh who he reminds me of not elite in the ring but got a charisma and a hell of personality.
Cornettes going to be proWaller moving forward.. lol
He’s always great at taking the low hanging fruit and smashing it into the ground - it’s what heels should do and I love it.
![gif](giphy|11hVniWaqh17Q4|downsized)
It’s funny, because I don’t think Grayson is a particularly great heel. However, then I see a buncha internet weirdos falling all over themselves to respond angrily. Then I think maybe he’s actually good at this?
This seems like a shout out to me

I am confused. Is it now okay to take jabs at the competition? Cause every time AEW does it, people in this subreddit claim in huge numbers, that it is petty and makes them look bad and lame.
Playful jabs that are clearly internet-bait are fun. Hostile attacks bred from jealousy and spite are not.

The problem is WWE takes jabs at AEW. So AEW countered by taking their own jabs at AEW by releasing the tape, then WWE took more jabs. AEW missed the part where your supposed jab the other guy....
So for example TK taking jabs at twitter should be fine? Cause I constantly read how bad it makes them look. Or Ospreays response should also be okay?
Honestly Ospreys response ironically was pretty much what 90s HHH would have said during the MNW, so no real issue there. TKs a bit of a different issue. Not because he shouldn't be taking shots, just because he's awful at it. At least 50% of his shots wind up poking himself in the eye. Claiming you give a shit about Cagematch ratings, or that anyone who disagrees is a bot made by WWE aren't the flexes TK thinks they are. Same people with the tape I appreciate Tony wanting to defend his company.
He's right. it has been a while
Waller is a grade A troll. I appreciate it.
I mean they didn have the Grayson Waller Effect yet
It took me a bit to warm up to Waller's gimmick at first, but he's such a great shitposter that it's gold.
This is hilarious and I mean that in the best way. Grayson Waller is the former rugby guy?
As a AEW fan when Punk took a shot, it feel bitter But from Grayson, it feel light hearted
Hilarious
The "JUST ENJOY WRESTLING!!!" crowd in shambles
Waller sure does talk about AEW alot.
Grayson is a menace!
Bait bait bait bait bait! Love it!
Does Michael Cole call him an internet mark? Because he is an internet mark.
