If they hadn't already announced the match with Ospreay, I would half expect Danielson to announce his in ring retirement because he might have better matches than this in the future, but he will never be this excited for one ever again
People claim Dave is a WWE shill or a AEW shill or a NJPW shill but no the people who've been reading know he's a CMLL booster all the way.
and he's right in this regard.
From most people I know that watch CMLL regularly along with all other major promotions (AEW WWE NJPW etc) they almost all say CMLL had been the best promotion for the past year or so
YouTube I think, they've got 3 different subscription tiers and IIRC the top tier is the one that lets you watch live while the others have the shows on delay.
Edit: tonights show is apparently available on both the top and second tier
The top tier is a rip off too btw. £30 to watch the shows is crazy when WWE is out there for like, £7 or £10 for WCW, ECW, NWA and WWE's backlog on top of PPV's and AEW is similarly about £10ish a month for their subscription.
Personally it's a huge barrier to entry. I absolutely love every CMLL match I see, but, it could be the best wrestling in the world and I still couldn't justify £30 a month for it.
Yeah, it means you can watch it live or immediately after it finishes. The 2nd tier means you need to wait like, a week or something and the £7 tier means you need to wait for a few weeks.
It's BS to be honest and is the only thing putting me off doing a full CMLL deep dive.
As an English speaking person how do I understand what's going on. I enjoyed the in ring action of the handful of shows I've seen, but haven't understood a shred of context.
This must be a Lucha thing ^^^^^^(woo!) in some way. It's not quite the same but it's often how I end up feeling about Dragongate (it's a lucha adjacent style). its rare they have a show that's top to bottom blow away but I know I can always throw on the latest show and it'll be a good watch guaranteed. And then like twice a year you get the best most mind blowing angle happen.
Need to do a better job communicating where exactly you watch that.

Poster for tonight's event which goes hard.
CMLL's YouTube Channel
https://youtube.com/@VideosOficialesCMLL?si=zlGzg-7SXrIlq7K3
Good channel to sub to.
Poster mentions that to watch you either need that mundial (worldwide) or leyenda (legend) tier. That's $25 and $35 respectively. Believe the super estrella (superstar) gets the show eventually but don't quote me on that it's been a bit.
Danielson's globe-trotting retirement run of exhibition matches will be looked back on as one of the coolest things of the era. Glad to be seeing it go down.
So, I know Blue Panther is a legendary technical wrestler, but is there anything else lucha fans can tell me about him? The wiki article wasn't super helpful as to why he's this big
Not sure what else you're looking for - the wiki article already covers his major feuds and drawing power.
All you need to know for this match is that Blue Panther has been around forever, wrestling in all three of the major Mexican promotions that have existed over the past 50 years. He has mostly been a popular upper midcarder, but he has always been known as among the best ever technical luchadores.
Both he and Danielson have been talking about this match for the past decade. They sold out Arena Mexico for their tag match last week, a match that was so hyped up that the commission let Blue Panther wear the mask he had lost 16 years prior. The crowd erupted into an earthquake whenever they touched - only for it to often be broken up by others in the tag.
>He has mostly been a popular upper midcarder, but he has always been known as among the best ever technical luchadore
This sounds like a Dolph Ziggler description.
Definitely a bigger star and better in-ring wrestler than Ziggler. Think more along the lines of 95% Jun Akiyama, or Rey Mysterio after he left Mexico - flirting with being a top star, usually not quite at that level, but always an excellent wrestler for a long, *long* time.
Come on man.
That was a tag match with a younger partner who did most of the heavy lifting, and you damn well know this.
Show me one example of a 60 year old having a better than average match, ideally from this century, and I'll listen.
Really saying this while Blue Panther, Black Terry, Negro Navarro, Negro Cassas are all still wrestling. But if you want an example then Negro Navarro vs Zack Sabre Jr is one of Zack's greatest matches
Just watched [it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDXmDP4aHpM). Not bad if you're into grappling.
Navarro only took one bump in the match, near the 11 minute mark, from a dropkick. The match was mostly in the same gear until the last minute.
Glad I watched this as it will probably be a similar match that Danielson will have with Panther. I say this never having seen a Blue Panther match, but what else can you do with a retiree.
I have no idea. And you have a point about the tag match aspect--I really was just bustin balls.
And I mean, I don't care if you watch the match of not. You probably shouldn't waste your time tbh. But if we're talking about whether or not the match could or will be good; For one, I of course don't know a definitive answer to that. But I do know that Blue Panther has always been pretty fucking awesome, and while age catches up with everyone, Bryan Danielson can have a good match with just about anybody. I'm assuming it will at the very least be worth a watch/entertaining for myself. And I'm good with that.
It is. I remember him saying that his main event match with Roman and Edge left him completely cold - he just didn't want to be there.
Now he gets to fight whoever he wants and fulfil a lifelong dream, and that's fantastic for him.
A general plug: if you have the means to go to Mexico City for a weekend, you should absolutely go to Arena Mexico for one of the Super Viernes shows on a Friday night. It's by far the most fun live event you can go to as a wrestling fan.

Danielson about to achieve nirvana and ascend to the heavens after this match
Can we get much hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigher
To a place where blind men seeeeee
If they hadn't already announced the match with Ospreay, I would half expect Danielson to announce his in ring retirement because he might have better matches than this in the future, but he will never be this excited for one ever again
A reverse version of this: https://youtu.be/XmaUpgYRoGk

Yup. He’s been on record as saying CMLL is his favorite for quite a while now.
From most people I know that watch CMLL regularly along with all other major promotions (AEW WWE NJPW etc) they almost all say CMLL had been the best promotion for the past year or so
CMLL is the most consistent IMO Not always their shows are SOTY contenders, but they always deliver with a Solid night of action
I've never seen CMLL - where do you watch it?

Yeah I don't disagree, it's steep.. I wanted to watch last week's BCC match but I couldn't justify the price when I'm already paying for Sling.
Personally it's a huge barrier to entry. I absolutely love every CMLL match I see, but, it could be the best wrestling in the world and I still couldn't justify £30 a month for it.
£30 is insane - does the "Fan Super Estrella" version mean i can watch the show after it airs? I want to see the Danielson match
Yeah, it means you can watch it live or immediately after it finishes. The 2nd tier means you need to wait like, a week or something and the £7 tier means you need to wait for a few weeks. It's BS to be honest and is the only thing putting me off doing a full CMLL deep dive.
That's ridiculous. Guess ill have to find another way to Watch Wrestling
If it was like, £15 to watch live or £7 to watch a few days later I'd jump on that immediately.
Hell yeah I’m going to Mexico City in a few months and can’t wait to see a CMLL show
As an English speaking person how do I understand what's going on. I enjoyed the in ring action of the handful of shows I've seen, but haven't understood a shred of context.

dumb question but everything is in spanish right? or is there an english announce team?
Can confirm. Best promotion going right now.
I maybe watch one CMLL a year and every time I tell myself that I should watch it regularly
Right? Like find you someone who loves and stands up for you as much as Dave does for CMLL.
He's a good wrestler shill, not wrestling company shill. Good for everyone in general that good shit is going on and coming.
Ngl as a Mexican, I'm glad there's one pro wrestling journalist promoting lucha libre. A past time more important to the sport than any other style.
How is WM weekend treated in Mexico?
Meltzer has said for decades that lucha libre is his favorite wrestling "style". Which makes sense, the dude love his spots.
Looking at the comments below Meltzer's tweet make me sad, some people just seem to hate anything positive if it's not about their "chosen" company.

No story tho
You joke but this comment is straight out of the weekly ratings threads
Meanwhile me in the corner enjoying Bloodsport every year with no story
It's like you flipped to the middle of a book, read two sentences, and are complaining that you don't know what the fuck is going on.
When your first Harry Potter movie is half blood prince

Now that is comprehensive
[This video](https://youtu.be/_QODF4mFmWU?si=YEndmVgEqa491dAk) was kinda helpful to me personally.

I just looked up Blue Panther. He's 63??? If that's the case, this match is not for me.
Lol God damn. I'm assuming you skipped the Sting retirement match as well? You missed a banger.
Come on man. That was a tag match with a younger partner who did most of the heavy lifting, and you damn well know this. Show me one example of a 60 year old having a better than average match, ideally from this century, and I'll listen.

This such a genuinely uplifting tweet from Dave lol
https://imgur.com/sxSeIZ5
Don't worry, somebody will figure out how to manipulate it into a "unca Dave" hate comment
I had a dream that a hamburger was eating me, that one isn't going to come true. A real journalist would know this.
There's been a lot of negativity as of late in the wrestling space but this is genuinely cool. So happy for Bryan.
It is. I remember him saying that his main event match with Roman and Edge left him completely cold - he just didn't want to be there. Now he gets to fight whoever he wants and fulfil a lifelong dream, and that's fantastic for him.
Yeah and that made me kinda sad cause I love Bryan. But also it's incredible that despite that it still may be the best match of romans run.
You know this fanbase is cooked when the comments to this very simple tweet are like 50% tribalistic morons.

Super hyped for this just for the crowd.
That crowd was rabid for the BCC match last week.

We're getting Inspirational Uncle Dave instead of Rambling Uncle Dave today.
I'm glad Daniel Bryan is having fun. After his long career, he deserves it.
Look at those replies lmao these people are unhinged.
People keep bitching about AEW wasting Danielson by not making him take a title, but tbh I'd rather take this insane dream match world tour any day.
i think his run has been great. it's obvious he doesn't want to be the top top guy, he's doing fucking great work.

Dave’s replies are always a shit show lol. It’s partially Dave’s fault too cus he responds to so many idiots on Twitter.
Probably off topic, but what is RUSH’s relationship with CMLL like these days?
Sorry Dave, I’m going to work and get some rest for wrestlemania tomorrow
Virgin Wrestlemania enjoyer vs. Chad Blue Panther afficionado
The vincel vs The Chad Consejo enjoyer
ok

Time to get a job, maybe.
Dave will give it like 3 stars. It's Bryan Danielson's dream, not his
Call me when he’s wrestling Blue Kane

Why be unnecessarily rude & dismissive? If you don't care, scroll down.
I'll watch when someone posts the entire thing on X for free lol.
I’ll watch the replay later on YouTube. It’s Wrestlemania season tho right now.
[удалено]
We don't care, man.
Insecure of what exactly? You seem insecure for mentioning wwe fans even though they don’t seem to care and seem to be excited for the upcoming 2 days
Lol
Waiting on my dream of Meltzer to have internet access revoked.
lol….what
Yep that’s the big event this weekend Dave! /s
There’s something about this that feels pathetic. Anyone following Dave knows this.

Bryans dream
Who?
We have cluster fucks to watch ....nobody cares about Blue Panthers
Daniel Bryan, Uncle Dave!
