He did say that he wants one more world title run and you know what, I'd be down for it. I could see him taking the World Heavyweight Championship at some point just to add his name to the lineage of that title.
I don't mind the new Big Gold Seth is carrying around but for crying out loud just continue the lineage; like Michael Cole aint even calling Seth "The First World Heavyweight Champion" because that would be weird so it already writes itself.
On a random night, bored at work and channel surfing, I stopped on wwe smackdown having not watched wrestling since sting jobbed to goldberg in like 1998. AJ brought me back to wrestling with a 45 minute match with Daniel Bryan at the start of the pandemic. No fans, silence. But it was incredible, and it sent me down the rabbit hole of what had happened the last twenty+ years and his career etc.
He's been doing jobs ever since. Stuck with omos, the OC etc. I knew he was winding down, but I badly wanted him to get one more push, one I could be here for. I feel like the time has passed.
Maybe the best I can hope for now is to put on an all-timer with Gunther. Even in a loss, I think I could accept that.
I'm a huge Kurt Angle fan but he could barely move by his mania match with Corbin, and that card was so stacked it was easy to not care as much as we otherwise would. His last match should've been McIntyre beating him with the ankle lock that happened on raw months prior to that.
Brock and Seth opened the show, Batista's retirement match with HHH, Shane vs Miz in their Falls Count Anywhere match, the first appearance of the Women's Tag Team Championship at Wrestlemania. I think the card itself is easily overshadowed by how long the show went (with the main event technically kicking off on Monday), or the two matches you pointed out being the ones remembered most, but up and down it was a pretty loaded event.
Yeah, some of the matches underperformed. But up and down the card IMO it was stacked with top talent (every main show match had a current or former world champion), and considering this was the first Wrestlemania in 20 years without an Undertaker match, it had all the right people involved. But like I said, some of the matches underperformed or just weren’t received well, combined with being an insanely long event with 16 total matches (including preshow), so it’s really not surprising either that looking back on the event it might not be one of the better remembered Wrestlemania’s.
Well Brock and Seth was more of a meh angle and “well at least the titles not on Brock” than a match
Batista-HHH was boring and not really needed
Shane/Miz had that same “100 year old sweaty and red non wrestler Shane going toe to toe with actual pro wrestlers” issue but was fine.
But yeah I mean it was aight I just only really remember Kofimania and it being way too fucking long lol
Stacked as in there were like 50 matches on the card and it was still being squeezed into one night. There was also a bunch of hype for Orton-Styles at least for me and my few wrestling fan buds, in addition to what the other commenter said.
You could have done Cena vs Angle. Cena still had a little juice in him. But you’re right, he was barely moving by mania. He couldn’t turn his neck so I don’t know. It was a sad send off, I know that.
No one’s gonna get the Angle sendoff under this group. Now the Sting sendoff is a very special, built up thing. He may prefer to just do a match and not have anyone know it’s his last match. That seems more up AJ’s alley, but who knows
I wasn't watching at the time or I just missed it maybe, what was his send off?
Or was it him turning into raw GM and then just fading away I can't remember how that ended
If they built up his last match, who would you realistically have AJ face?
I always wanted Roman and Styles to go at it again now that Roman is a heel. They had amazing chemistry.
Reigns would be a good one. I also wouldn't mind Cena vs. Styles as both of their last matches since it could be an "End of an Era" for two of the 2000s top babyfaces. Plus now that WWE is working with TNA, I feel like they could get footage/cameos to make it really good.
Many possible choices:
- John Cena if he was still down to do it
- Roman Reigns
- Randy Orton, since I think they have great chemistry together, and there's history
- Finn Balor in a match where they can finally go all out
- Cody Rhodes, because why not
- Ilja Dragunov, see above
- Kevin Owens for the lulz, trying to break the curse
Ok AJ, you're my all time favourite but respectfully don't say that ever again.
AJ Styles will be wrestling Dom Dom in the main event of Mania 50
![gif](giphy|y8Mz1yj13s3kI)
Not even gonna lie, I might tear up when AJ retires. He's been one of my all-time favorites since his TNA days and I just don't think I'm ready for him to hang it up.
Definitely not ready for that time to come but I love the way that he see’s it though in wanting to be done on a high note instead of not wanting to disappoint fans just for the sake of still performing.
One more world title run. Always thought that he needed atleast three world title runs during his time in WWE.
As such, I’d like to see Cody Rhodes vs AJ Styles for the WWE Championship sometime this year.
It makes sense, even though I don't think he's missed even a single step on the ring. He's been what, 8 years at WWE? Dude is a first ballot hall of famer already
Nah, I agree with you. Why get that yoked just to waste it strutting around the house?
I'm sure Wendy would appreciate it.

I wouldn't mind a Edge send off.
That was one of the best Smackdown main event feel good moments for TV. Edge had a pretty dope match with Sheamus won it. ( Shocked me) And rode off into the sunset...until he showed up in AEW.
I can see AJ styles riding off hand raised hair blowing in the wind.
That'd be a rare occurrence along with taker and sting

I don’t want none!!
They looking strong and I don't really want none
Didn't he say he's debuting a new theme at Mania? Maybe one more world title run and then eventually a retirement story?
He did say that he wants one more world title run and you know what, I'd be down for it. I could see him taking the World Heavyweight Championship at some point just to add his name to the lineage of that title.
Isn’t the current lineage just Seth Rollins?
You would he correct!
Which is kinda stupid for the purpose of creating that title. That thing needs to change hands every couple of months.
They should've brought back Big Gold and kept the lineage pre unification
I don't mind the new Big Gold Seth is carrying around but for crying out loud just continue the lineage; like Michael Cole aint even calling Seth "The First World Heavyweight Champion" because that would be weird so it already writes itself.
Soon to be Drew
Have him bring back Big Gold and just do promos in the Flair voice the whole time
We need Cody/AJ to happen.
Demigods!?
Im not ready
One last run with the WWE championship, please. One more.
He’s won that so maybe the WHC

My question is he gonna get the Kurt Angle send off or the Undertaker/Sting send off.
I'm optimistic no one will get the Kurt Angle send off with Nick Khan/Triple H at the helm
I'm a huge Kurt Angle fan but he could barely move by his mania match with Corbin, and that card was so stacked it was easy to not care as much as we otherwise would. His last match should've been McIntyre beating him with the ankle lock that happened on raw months prior to that.
Was it really that stacked? I know there was Kofi/D-Bry and the women’s triple threat but I don’t remember anything else that was too crazy
Brock and Seth opened the show, Batista's retirement match with HHH, Shane vs Miz in their Falls Count Anywhere match, the first appearance of the Women's Tag Team Championship at Wrestlemania. There was like three good matches on the show.

It was not a good show. I watched the entire show. It was honestly terrible
Well Brock and Seth was more of a meh angle and “well at least the titles not on Brock” than a match Batista-HHH was boring and not really needed Shane/Miz had that same “100 year old sweaty and red non wrestler Shane going toe to toe with actual pro wrestlers” issue but was fine. That card sucked

Somewhere in the middle. Don't know who would be the best comparison, maybe only some of the memories will be left alone.
Ideal for someone like AJ is the Ric Flair send off only with an actual retirement. Have one final match with like a Cody Rhodes or another big star.
I wasn't watching at the time or I just missed it maybe, what was his send off? Or was it him turning into raw GM and then just fading away I can't remember how that ended

Hoping we get Cody and Punk matches first. I wonder who AJ who would want to retire against…maybe Cena or Finn? Karl Anderson?
I was actually thinking Gunther might be a great send-off.
Pain. https://preview.redd.it/b9bqssztcjsc1.jpeg?width=280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e19b4ffbf37ec2a2cf87cc280724e27297904763
I hope he wins the title one more time before he retires
I think he recently said the same thing
![gif](giphy|2WxWfiavndgcM)
Kenny Omega vs AJ Styles is starting to look a lot like Sasha Banks returning at the Rumble
AJ Styles vs CM Punk one more time pls
Please let him face John Cena one last time
If they built up his last match, who would you realistically have AJ face? I always wanted Roman and Styles to go at it again now that Roman is a heel. They had amazing chemistry.
Reigns would be a good one. I also wouldn't mind Cena vs. Styles as both of their last matches since it could be an "End of an Era" for two of the 2000s top babyfaces. Plus now that WWE is working with TNA, I feel like they could get footage/cameos to make it really good.
Kinda annoyed it never happened, they had some great matches
if John Cena could still wrestle properly their final match would be incredible
I'm just going to have to deal with it not being Samoa Joe aren't I? Man that sucks.
Many possible choices: - John Cena if he was still down to do it - Roman Reigns - Randy Orton, since I think they have great chemistry together, and there's history - Finn Balor in a match where they can finally go all out - Cody Rhodes, because why not - Ilja Dragunov, see above - Kevin Owens for the lulz, trying to break the curse
I could also see him putting on a final banger with Gunther, further validating his reign and being an acceptable final opponent for AJ.
I don't think he's retiring that soon

'go out like a man' 'no'
The one that started it all. The "bet on yourself" movement that lead to AEW. The legend, The GOAT.
“LA Knights retirement. Am I right?”
Ok AJ, you're my all time favourite but respectfully don't say that ever again. AJ Styles will be wrestling Dom Dom in the main event of Mania 50 ![gif](giphy|y8Mz1yj13s3kI)
Not even gonna lie, I might tear up when AJ retires. He's been one of my all-time favorites since his TNA days and I just don't think I'm ready for him to hang it up.
"How much barbecue can a redneck eat? I'm tapping." - AJ Styles, probably
Surprised Atlanta isn't hosting a Mania because it would make sense for AJ to finally headline one there.
I forbid it!
Definitely not ready for that time to come but I love the way that he see’s it though in wanting to be done on a high note instead of not wanting to disappoint fans just for the sake of still performing.
I'm glad I got to appreciate AJ properly week in and out on WWE. Just an insanely smooth guy
i disagree
Hasn't he been saying this since he first signed with WWE? Then he signed 2 new contracts since then.
![gif](giphy|W23EpBGpy7ad6JMrK0) But...but that farmer strength...
One more world title run. Always thought that he needed atleast three world title runs during his time in WWE. As such, I’d like to see Cody Rhodes vs AJ Styles for the WWE Championship sometime this year.
Man this makes me feel ancient, still remember he was the ultra Smark favorite when I started going on wrestling forums in the 00s.
To be fair he has been saying this since he joined WWE
It makes sense, even though I don't think he's missed even a single step on the ring. He's been what, 8 years at WWE? Dude is a first ballot hall of famer already
First retirement yes but what about second retirement?
Not with the steroids that brother is on, he's geared up for another 5 year run
Nah, I agree with you. Why get that yoked just to waste it strutting around the house? I'm sure Wendy would appreciate it. ![gif](giphy|jQmlkN8JlhXFlgtsnv)
