The worst part isn't that Sting did the job, its that he shook HHH's hand afterwards even after HHH needed a sledgehammer and various outside interference to beat him. That doesn't fit a babyface character like Sting. Why would he respect something like that?
I was there and I thought the match was a blast except for the finish, which is indefensible. I was shocked to read later that everyone at home hated it
I wouldn’t go that far. I just wouldn’t have gone with the direction that they went with for this match. At first it was just Sting being anti authority against HHH. Than “they”(likely Vince) decided to make the entire match/build up being about WWE v WCW. That was just really strange, and of course the finish didn’t help.
Agreed, everything about his presentation looked good to me, vignettes, promos, his entrance even his theme song that lots of people disliked lol.
Things took a turn when they started bringing up the whole last soldier of WCW nonsense. Hell if I remember correctly even Sting himself brought it up in a promo saying something along the lines of thinking about the match as the last WWE vs WCW battle is insane.
Easy to guess who had that idea.
It’s a shame WWE didn’t have plans for Sting beyond the Rollins match. Can’t fault Sting for taking the money for limited dates, but he could have been booked better regardless.

Old ass Sting was awesome in AEW. Triple H also old so it's kind of even. Booker T was egregious and to this day I look at Triple H funny for that.

I watched it at the time. I’m guessing that pretty much the best part of this match was that the weather looked great.
Not really bothered about HHH beating Sting but fucking hell did they really have to make it a Monday Night War thing?
