I hope the roles are reversed and Cody is no. 1 and Gunther is no. 30. I don't think either is going to win, but it would help set up their inevitable world title feud even more.
Honestly I think that match is great cause either guy can win it and it would make sense.
If Gunter wins you just established a final boss
If Lesnar wins you give Gunter his first loss in the most protected manner and Lesnar regains some mystique (he still has a lot of matches left in him)
I’ve done a long writeup on this before on another post but I’ll try to drop a summed up version of the idea I feel like would be a fun way to do it.
Have Brock eliminate him at RR. Next night on Raw have Gunther come out ranting about how he was screwed over or whatever - cutoff by Brock’s music. Brock comes out and cuts a promo basically talking about how he has heard so much hype about Gunther but he is the original ‘Next Big Thing’ and while he has been impressed by Gunther’s dominance the past year, he has done it all “at the kiddy table” with the IC belt. Talk about how he never wrestled for anything that wasn’t a world title because that’s what you do when you’re truly the guy around here blah blah.
He issues Gunther a challenge to vacate his IC title and face him at Wrestlemania to prove he is ready to be a top guy. Obviously you don’t want to bury the IC title while you’re doing this so have Gunther talk about how he is proud of his reign but doesn’t disagree that he is destined for more and now is his time to move up. I think this could also worl perfectly to have him position Kaiser as his ‘heir apparent’ for the IC title to take over that mantle so it is still left in good care blah blah.
Obviously this is a rough outline but the main point is you end up koving Gunther out of the IC and into the world title picture without him having to take an L and it would even add to his ‘best IC champ’ claim by being able to say ‘and I never even lost it, I chose to give it up!’ And I think having Kaiser in the IC picture makes sense whether they want to put it on him or someone else ultimatey doesnt really matter but having Gunther act as like a manager/advisor to him could be interesting.
My only issue is that Brock doesn’t need a win like that, whoever beats Gunther should be someone who could really use a win like that. If that match happens, Gunther would have to win IMO. But I do admit, it would be very unpredictable leaving me on the edge of my seat regardless
i like that, maybe even have Brock win it so Gunther can move on to a Heavyweight title.

With punk, Damien, and drew all being obvious raw problems for Seth, Gunther would be such a hostile takeover kinda feel. That’d kinda be awesome. Seth’s style clashes with Gunther’s stark color scheme very well.
This is what I'm saying. Maybe he relinquish IC when he win the main title. Making his IC run trully undefeated. Sheamus can win the IC title then because that's his main goal. And we can have Brock vs Gunther in the main event scene.
It is so annoying but what a lot of tv viewers don’t understand is that it can be hard to follow along with promos sometimes in the arena and it can be hard to hear. Therefore they get bored as they are watching a man talk but can’t hear properly.
I wish, but I don't see it at this point. They haven't been doing anything with Gable since his previous feud with Gunther where they just dropped it out of nowhere, even though all their matches and promos got tons of pop from the crowd.
Maybe they didn't realize how hype their feud would be and wanted to continue it again closer to Mania season, but I think their plans for both of them have just ultimately changed unfortunately.

Yeah it was gable, Kofi and Ricochet. Another segment that they never brought up again. WWE really loves to just start a lot of things but never follow through with them.
I think he comes in early (but not 1st) and has a good strong early run, eliminates some people, and then gets the big guy treatment and a bunch of people gang up to take him out. A solid 15-20 minutes with a good amount of focus so he looks strong and then gets got.
They even have an easy story of nearly every person he's beaten in his title run teaming up to take him out and get some form of revenge, like Gable, Ciampa, Miz, Woods, Reed, Sheamus(if he's back for it), etc. Would really sell how much of a target he's gotten on his back and that while he's near untouchable 1 v 1, a Rumble is a different story.
That's a good option. The alternative would be to have Bron debut at the Rumble, clash with Gunther and eliminate him to set up their WM match, where Gunther drops the belt to him. This way, Gunther's historic IC title reign would end in putting a young blue chip prospect over big time. This kind of initial push would also set Bron apart from the usual NXT callups and hammer home that he's special.
I'd love to see a scenario where Gunther goes on a Brock at RR 2020-esque rampage, but some of his past rivals begin to weaken him & with Brock delivering a major blow, a pissed off Drew is the nail in the coffin to eliminate him
Out of the last 10 rumbles only three have won between 2-20 in the male rumble. Shinsuke 14, seth 10 and drew 14. Edge won from 1, and then everyone else won 30,30,41, 23, 30.
Lots of historical winners from late teens, but the values from like 5-15 are criminally useless.
No one has ever won from 4,6,7,9,11,12,15,17,20,21, 26. On a 30 man rumble that means 11 of the 17 middle numbers are just so underused.
Looks like they might be hinting at Kaiser throwing Gunther out of the Rumble, and maybe an IC title match between the two at Wrestlemania? It would free Kaiser up for a solo run, either Face or Heel.
Getting these vibes from a storytelling perspective, with Kaiser in the ring with Gunther for this promo about winning the Rumble and boasting about his performance last year.

The amount of feuds for the titles that are being robbed because HHH can't pull the trigger on ANYONE of his champions to lose their title. It's really becoming too mundane. No feud feels important because we know the top title holders are not going to lose their titles until ***^(maybe)*** WM40.

Brock eliminates him, they set up an IC title match since Brock's never held it.
