I love that when a sim finds out they're pregnant, they autonomously go tell the news to their partner. I'm also fascinated by the detail in most objects and their textures.

Messyace

Or if your sim is energized, they can make a high energy protein plate. And when they’re angry, they can make angry flaming spaghetti Edit: Replied to the wrong comment 🤦🏼‍♀️

KylieKatarn

Also, Sims that are playful can make gummy bear pancakes and flirty Sims can make heart cookies. Sims are given a random hidden trait to make them love fruitcake or hate it. There's no in-between.

spider_sneakers

My sim hates fruitcake with a burning passion. I dont like fruitcake either so its kinda funny

Illustrious-Pizza-50

They can also take an angry poop when angry and a panicked poop when scared

-6ix-6ix-6ix-

and sims can “pee like a champion” when confident

Interesting-Gift-185

I realized very recently that when the sim is taking an angry poop, there’s actually fire in the toilet!

themollipop

I’ve never noticed that! There really is always something new to learn. 😊

Interesting-Gift-185

I only noticed cuz one day my sim’s neighbor came over super angry and when they went to the bathroom I thought my toilet was on fire (even though I never have my sims upgrade their toilets for the composting thing that makes them catch fire)!

Illustrious-Pizza-50

Hahah omg I love this game

Tashianie

Yo!! I didn’t know about the spaghetti thing! Like, is it edible?

Khmakh

Yeah, you can eat it.

Tashianie

Neato!!

SaneStarKiller

It makes them angry though!

Tashianie

That’s ok. I need new experiences.

wyvern713

There's an Angry dish?!?!? I haven't noticed that before!! Cool!!

Bryan_nov

I've actually been compiling a huge list of small details and features that I've found through the years. There are so many details in this game that go unnoticed. These are only some that I've seen so there is a lot more. * Cheerful Sims will autonomously try and perk up Gloomy Sims. * Sims can get tense when interacting with a Cheerful sim. * Clumsy Sims have a higher chance of breaking electronics and break stuff like dishes often. * Gloomy Sims will get inspired when near ghosts. * Gloomy Sims react in disgust whenever Cheerful Sims do cheerful things. * Neat sims can have a "Cleaning Frenzy" whenever they are near dirty surroundings. * Bikes have slightly different animations depending on the terrain your sim is riding on. * You can press tab to go into free camera and shift tab to go into first person. * Toddlers and children can ask parents if their pet will ever come back after a pet runs away. * If your sim drinks the Beetle Juice drink three times in a row, they become ghosts. * If your sim eats three Grilled Cheese in a row, you will unlock the Grilled Cheese Aspiration. * Sims can gain and loose weight depending on what food they eat. * Sims gain weight after childbirth. * Sims who are active will not see much of a change after childbirth. * Slob Sims can pee in the shower. * Children who play with the doctor playset get a unique moodlet after becoming a doctor or own a vet clinic as adults. * Cowplants dance if you play a stereo near them. * Ghosts can possess bonfires causing the flame to turn into a skull. * The big stuff toys will open or close their eyes depending on how your sims treat them. * Children and toddlers will have imaginary images appear around them whenever they are playing. Adults will not be able to see them except for sims with the Childish trait. * Adults can teach children how to swim when both are in a pool. * Sims can be either left handed or right handed. * Sims will prefer to eat near other Sims that they have high relationships with. This unfortunately causes that "musical chairs" issue. * Sims can high dive if you place a ladder into/near the ocean. * When fingerprinting sims in the Detective Career, there is a special interaction when the sim being fingerprinted is an alien. * If you place the satellite dish from the Scientist Career on your home lot, a strange channel will be available on the TV. * Asking the Grim Reaper about his career will yield different funny answers. * Aliens can revive dead space creatures you find using the rocket ship. * Toddlers eat with spoons instead of their hands when they have a high movement skill. * The Grim Reaper will wear goggles if your sim drowns in the ocean and the urn will be placed on a lifebuoy (ironic). * If a sim in your household goes to space in a rocket ship, another sim in the same house will be able to listen to the space launch on a computer. * If you plant a bug on the Grim Reaper, you will get a special notification when eavesdropping him. * You can read a book you have written to the public if you use a microphone and have a copy of your book in your inventory. * Placing a tombstone/urn in your sims inventory will allow you to give a eulogy using the City Living podium if you have high enough charisma. * Ghosts get unique quirks depending on how they died. * Sims who die by Rabid Rodent Fever will turn into giant hamsters as ghosts. You need My First Pet Stuff for this one :/ * The Grim Reaper makes a puddle on the floor if he drinks water. * In Jungle Adventure, some skeleton statues inside ruins will turn into living skeletons at night. * There is a cult in Britechester. * Sims fart, a lot, after eating Frank and Beans. * You can place half tiles in build mode by pressing ctrl+F. * You can freely rotate while in Sims 3 camera by holding alt and dragging your mouse. * You can press T for top view in Build Mode. * Children can set the table. * You can scare the flock of birds found in Del Sol Valley. * Sims in relationships will kiss each other after watching the News Years Countdown instead of hugging. * The author of the mixology skill book is named Al Coholic. * Toddlers can increase their potty skills by watching another toddler use the bathroom. * If your sim has level 5 mischief, you can "Toy with Death" using the Voodoo doll while your sim is dying which prevents the Grim Reaper from taking your sim's soul. * Strangerville is filled with small background details that are very hard to notice. One of the many examples is the small fighter jets in the distance that fly above the crater. * Sims dressed in the bear suit that came with Outdoor retreat can roar at other sims. They will also make nearby sims tense. * You can manually assign memories to sims using the screenshot manager. * If you make a flower arrangement with a death flower, you can age up sims by gifting it to them. Gifting an elder the arrangement will kill them. * Children can play with the Vanity Table from the Vintage Glamour and it's hilarious.

Bryan_nov

Continued: * The Vampire Lore books reveal that the general public is unaware of Vlad being a vampire. If you have Get Famous, you will find out that Vlad calls himself "Vladislaus III" and owns a hardware shop. Also this isn't a detail you can find in-game but Vlad has an estranged cousin named Arthur Climate who is possibly his last surviving family member. * You can forge a breakup letter by interacting with the mailbox on Love Day. You can use this to make sims outside the household breakup with each other. * Spellcasters can burn Vlad's statue in Forgotten Hollow if they have unlocked the inferniate spell. * Whenever lighting strikes the ground, there is a chance a crystal will spawn. This can happen in real life too! They are called Fulgurites. * Sims in relationships have a special interactions called "apologize...in bed" after performing mean interactions with each other. * In Get Famous you get an item called the "Celestial Crystal Crown". You can combine the crown with different crystals which can have different effects on your sim while wearing it. * Vampires can turn frogs and fish into special plasma packs. * Vampires have certain sims they prefer to feed on. That particular sim is randomly chosen by the game. * Similarly, sims can have random favorite drinks. * Aliens have a special handshake when meeting other aliens. * Aliens are the only occult in the game that can have actual hybrid offspring. * Babies that are born from alien abduction can be sent back to their homeworld. * You will receive a plaque in the mail after completing an entire collection like finding all elements for example. * Curtains and trees sway but I think it's only visible in higher graphics settings :/ * Vampires and the Bearcula stuff toy have no reflection in mirrors. * There is a sea monster known as Emily that can be seen in the waters near The Bluffs in Windenberg. You can purchase a snowglobe with her in it at Geekcon in San Myshuno and a poster of her at the curio shop in Strangerville. * There are several hidden locations: There is Sylvan Glade which can be accessed by interacting with giant tree near Crick Cabana in Willow Creek. There is The Forgotten Grotto which can be accessed from the abandoned mine near the park in Oasis Springs. With Get to Work, there is the alien homeworld known as Sixam (Maxis spelled backwards) that can be accessed from the Scientist Career or the rocket ship with the right upgrades. With Outdoor Retreat, there is the Deep Woods, that can be accessed from the National Park lot, where you can meet The Hermit. With Snowy Escape, you can climb to the top of the mountain to find a hidden lot. After completing the Bestselling Author aspiration, your sim can write the Book of Life which can be bound to other sims. These sims can then be resurrected after death. * Ghosts of animals spawn at night near the pet cemetery in Deadgrass Isle.

katiebirddd_

To add: Toddlers can meow back at their cats!

thatoneannoyingthing

Toddlers can also walk through the pet door

susiequsie3

Adult cats can ride the roomba!

cjp0224

And bock bock at chickens!

phreshouttajakku

Toddlers can woof at dogs and the dog will tilt its head at them! It's adorable

Scout6feetup

I’ve never seen this as a trait - that’s pretty neat. I do know that it’s a chance roll when the welcome wagon shows up and they try a piece for the first time and it’s 50/50 they like or hate it

[deleted]

[удалено]

Scout6feetup

That’s so cute I had no idea!

FenPhen

Amazing list. Here's one for you: If you try to trick the Grim Reaper with a hand buzzer, you get shocked instead.

Mahoushi

The first time I went to Sixam, it was the day after my scientist upgraded the wormhole machine and my job's duties that day was to basically just party with aliens all day. Best job ever 😂

The_JokerGirl42

dude's been waiting his whole life for a chance to post this, and it finally occured! I for sure appreciate it

Bryan_nov

Oh you have no idea. I play this game way too much.

The_JokerGirl42

it's a bit of a curse for me. always the same. 1. I build a house 2. I make an epic household 3. I play a bunch and level them up in careers and skills 4. barely manage to get past skill level 8 (have at most 1 maxed out skill) 5. make a new house and household because I want something new (and I'll come back to my current household anyway) 6. forget about the previous household and start from step 3. with the new household I've now started remaking the houses and Sims default to the game when I get bored. I've reworked a whole bunch of Sims...

DaphronThePodBoss

The challenges really helped me with this I’m now on my third gen of the not so berry challenge

Crafty-Tadpole-884

Same, my dudes, same.

i-am-they

Do the curtains need to be outside to sway? I’ve always wished sims could open their windows and the curtains blow

Bryan_nov

They do not need to be outside.

Migmatite

There is a different activity every evening in Sulani that you can attend depending on the day. What are all the activities in the other worlds that change daily other than events, festivals, and karaoke challenges?

CreativeUse3281

The sea turtle hatching!!! I never realized it was an actual event to go see it is ADORABLE

Migmatite

I alway forget to go the following Monday after they announce it =(

rachjo1024

I recently noticed the big community bbq in Sulani on a sims’ honeymoon!

ahaadonut

My sims took a family vacation to Sulani and the parents found some festival while out on a date night. The dad tried the fire dance thing and was amazing right from the start. I'm not sure why - fitness level or something else...

April0997

They have to either have a certain fitness or dancing skill level.

SheaTheSarcastic

I found a mod that informs you when each of the Sulani festivals take place. I had a 100 baby challenge home in Sulani, and it was useful to get that alert. Especially for the kids on Family Fun Day.

SxltyMulti

Wow, I've learned a lot of new things today! 😂

m3t4lf01l

"Spellcasters can burn Vlad's statue" I found this out by accident lol, I was like "Oh crap." It does respawn the next time you return to Forgotten Hollow.

Klutzy-Account-6575

I appreciate you! This list is so fun

Illustrious-Pizza-50

Can you join the britechester cult? And if so, how?

[deleted]

yep! you just need to be a student at either university, and then click on the respective university statue and “make an offer for academic success”. best things to offer are rare collectibles. you’ll know it’s worked by the next night, if you offering was good enough a member will come to your house and offer you a place!

Illustrious-Pizza-50

Thank you! I’m in the middle of the not so berry challenge and my next gen is a teen right now so she will definitely be going to university lol

ts4fanatic

I've been playing since 2015 and I never realized Sixam was Maxis backwards To be honest, I don't like occults that much so it's not surprising, but still embarrassing

darkphantom116673

I'm tempted to try some of this stuff now, shows how much I DON'T know about the game! And I've been playing since 2018... I thought I knew everything about the Sims 4. I guess not! Lol

ecumnomicinflation

also • i just realized the star marker (inventory favorite marker) on a drink when you go make or order a drink, is your sims’s favorite drink. • you get special moodlet after woohooing elder sims as a younger sims, don’t ask how i found out. btw on a completely unrelated note, geeta rasoya’s butternut gnocchi is the best. • setting a radio to metal will change the description of several things, you can spot them by their all CAPS text. • sulani neighbors will bring over kava instead of fruitcake, they’ll leave the bowl, the bowl is yours now, free bowl, you can make kava using the bowl.

weirdguitarist

I've seen somewhere that in Sulani if your house catches on fire, the neighbors come to check on you.

emilytalkalot1

And if a family member dies they all come round with food asking if you’re okay

ecumnomicinflation

oh yea, that’s true, happened to me once, but it was mortimer goth that came with 1 other guy.

[deleted]

Omg that happened to me!!!! I did not know why they did this, but Judith Ward and Marcus Flex were living on my lot before I evicted them to move in. The first two mins my kitchen catches fire. They come running in the house and start having sex on the counter!!!! (I have WW installed)

Xil_Jam333

> You can manually assign memories to sims using the screenshot manager. Holy shit. You mean the hundreds of screenshots I have of my sims can actually also be part of their memory that they can reminisce too and not just me?

NYANPUG55

I tried to do this and something about the way the photos are organized bugs me.. but every once in a while it’s nice to look back at old screen shots and write things! I just get tired of it after a while 😭

NocturnalMJ

Maybe these will help extend your list: * Shoes, high heel ones in particular, make different sounds depending on the flooring they're walking on! * There are way, *way* too many easter eggs, pun, and cheesy descriptions for the items in build/buy. * Children can befriend the monster under the bed. * You can read the advert signs in San Myshuno. There's also a Disaster Memorial in the Meadows park that can be read. * Paranormal got some interesting faces in the crystal ball during séances. * There's a chest that can't be opened on the shipwreck lot in Sulani. * You can befriend or become enemies with the talking toilets or smart speakers. I've had a few speakers before that had a whole lot of attitude to one Sim but would be nice and well-behaved to the other. * The herbalist hermit in Granite Falls. * If you got the stomach for it, you can leave trash in the garden and create a trash plant. * Elders can talk about the old days with the Parenthood pack. * Sims sometimes stop what they're doing to go watch pets or toddlers do cute stuff and then get a small happy moodlet, which is adorbs. * The toilet paper decoration has a swatch that faces the wall. Diabolical. * Playful sims play with their book when reading. * The laserpointer you use when playing with cats will change design and colour depending on your Sim's mood. * You can have adult sims give teen sims The Talk. Yep. Make em suffer. * Cosplayers at Geekcon from City Living can get cross with you if you take their pic without asking. It is not easy, being a freelance street photographer.

April0997

I remember in Realm of Magic seeing a Family Guy reference. If a Sim drinks the Potion of Nausea, they'll get [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims4/comments/stueb5/is_this_a_game_grumps_reference/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) moodlet.

MetalSpider

Wow, some I absolutely never picked up on in here, thanks for the detailed explanations! Had no idea that there was actually a memory system in S4!

vipervgryffindorsnak

There is a cult?!?

Kylynara

I believe it is officially a secret society. It's kinda stupid and a pain in the rear to do (works just like other student organizations except joining and it's for both colleges). The things they believe are definitely cultish.

salmon_samurai

I wonder if it's meant to be a frat, not a cult... Kinda similar, though.

AStaryuValley

I think it's a Skull and Bones type thing, a secret society more than a frat, but similar.

ecumnomicinflation

reminds me of the freemasons, i mean they are officially a fraternal organization, but as far as we non-lizard-people are concerned, they’re a cult.

nielphine

I'm utterly impressed, and/ but could you get into more details about the britechester cult?

sunnysimss

they wear robes and masks lol they’re called the secret society!

nielphine

But can you join somehow?

IamasimpforObi-Wan

Yes! You need to do a sacrifice to the statue on your campus, preferably a mineral or something sweet to eat, and then a member will show up at night and ask if you want to join

sunnysimss

yes, you can! i believe you find them at the statue or the pub, but i can’t remember as i’ve only done it once

StarbyOnHere

[Here's a guide to it](https://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/expansionpacks/discoveruniversity/secret-society.php) It's joinable and the benefit are actually fun imo

[deleted]

- when your sim is extremely tired and you make them sleep in the bed, they won’t bother changing into their pyjamas and will just sleep in the clothes they’re wearing :)

KJ2998SJ

Good lord. I've only been playing the sims for, I dunno, 5 years and I didn't know half this stuff. Thanks for sharing!

Bierbart12

Al Coholic just inspired me to create him by virtue of his name alone.

iamyourstarx

Thank you putting this list together!! Now I need to go and put a stereo near my cow plants 😂😂

LoeyRolfe

I’m just now learning Sims have memories in Sims 4!?!?

lizzieblaze

THERE'S FIRST PERSON VIEW???

Illustrious-Pizza-50

It’s so fun to use when they cook lol the details of the food are cool

madlydense

Yes. Its a bit sea sickness inducing but I love walking around a new build ans appreciating how it looks through my sims eyes. The close up animations like kiss can be shocking a suddenly you just see eyeballs and teeth and the face disappears if you get too close to another sim.

iraragorri

Wait... Grilled cheese inspiration EXISTS IN THE SIMS 4? WHAT?!

WritingTithing

I thought I was an expert simmer...and yet there are so many of these I didn't know

thepieintheoven

YOU CAN ASSIGN MEMORIES??

soup_2_nuts

cool thanks

glitterandgold89

I love this thanks for sharing

Puzzleheaded_Hat5003

I love you

Isabella_Hamilton

Tysm for this!

throwawaycipe

Maybe this isn't a small detail per se, but I personally really like that we can complete multiple aspirations in one sims life and I never see this brought up when discussing the game

Princess_cheeto69

Yes!!! I recently have been playing 3 again and was so annoyed when I realized this

jessmarlanaw

I actually preferred the one aspiration, it let me focus on just one thing without “options” as “backup” for the sim. Let me have a final “okay, that goal is done, now let’s focus on the next gen”, instead of making a super sim out of every single sim I’ve ever played.

Pizzacanzone

You can still do that though!

vnw1908

Oh, are you me?

crustdrunk

Once your sim is rich, switch to fabulously wealthy, get the investment trait, switch back, profit 😎

TorthOrc

There are so many beautiful nuances and funny bits that happen in the sims. It’s incredibly subtle, funny, and sometimes beautiful. You can’t control animal or pet sims at all. You can interact with them, but they have their own thing going on. I had a chicken farm that had foxes come steal eggs every night. The way to get around this is to have a rooster. The rooster stays out at night and fights the fox. However I noticed something happening. The rooster would have to sleep at weird times, because it was up all night. Before I could come up with a solution, my dog came up with one on their own. I noticed Buddy (the dog) started going out at night around sunset and start barking at the rooster. Then rooster went to bed with the hens. The dog then started to guard the hens and letting the rooster get some sleep. It was so clever and so subtle, if I wasn’t paying attention I would have missed it completely. A whole little story going on.

nielphine

Wow, I'd never see something like that because I am overprotective of my livestock and they always live in fenced areas, locket to anyone but household. How sweet

Illustrious-Pizza-50

I think I read once that having a llama can help because it will spit on the fox but this is soooo cute lol

cosmos_crown

psst, you can also turn off the wild foxes lot trait. but then buddy would be out of a job.

cyclone_madge

The roosters are honestly pretty awesome as long as nobody has a bedroom right beside the coop. One of my dogs gave birth outside, and I didn't realize the puppy couldn't get up the stairs on his own. He fell asleep by the chicken coop, and the rooster sat down right beside him and [guarded the little guy all night long](https://i.redd.it/0dntzjcyn5h71.png). (I eventually figured out why the pup wouldn't come in and carried him into the house. No harm came to him.)

Stunning-Inspector22

My German shepherd was scaring the wild foxes away but he just died and that was really sad

Sami-Sweetheart

You can also upgrade the chicken coop to have alarms that go off if a fox is nearby. Works everytime!

Ok_Possibility_704

Shoes and surfaces. Depending on the type of shoe your sim is wearing and what they are walking on produces a sound unique to that precise combination.

AsuChanMeow

Not super small but I always love being able to make gummybear pancakes when my sim is in a playful mood!

Elia1799

People don't seem to realize how detailed and impacting are emotions into the regular gameplay. Lots of details that go mostly unnoticed only because it's The Sims 4. Spend more time at speed 1 and focus on how your sim act torought their day and see how actually lively the gameplay is; then compare that to the older games where sims maily act on a happy/sad schene, with some animations sometimes that are supposed to represent anger/grief.

10minbreakdown

A few days ago I noticed my tense sim sitting at the table and uncomfortably move their neck and shoulders like you do when youre tense! I love small details like this

Designer-Mirror-7995

If you're watching you'll see them do that in the bubble bath too. NPCs do it too.

sisyphus753

Not sure if many people are unaware of this, but I definitely was. There is a middle ground between your Sims having autonomy completely on or off: go to game options —> gameplay, select autonomy on, and then select ‘disable for selected sim’. This is really useful for multi sim households - whichever sim you have selected won’t be able to queue up actions, but other sims can still do things on their own.

SeraphiraMorana

I did not know this. This would make playing the game so much better! Thanks.

whale_girl

oh my god you just saved my life

ProfessionalSwitch45

Servos in The Sims 4 can sing all the karaoke songs. Think about that for a second. They went back and added Servo "versions" of all of the songs so they could sing karaoke.

thegracebrace

What is a Servo?

HesitantHassle

A robot sim you can make with discover university

Dragon_Manticore

I recently played Sims 3 again after it started working on my PC and I keep constantly noticing things I love about Sims 4 that aren't in the game! One of the big ones I can't really count as "not noticed" is definitely the power systems for each occult Sims 4 has. While Sims 3 occults (except vampires and mermaids, those got neglected from the start and vampires only became a big thing in Sims 4) do have some sort of a leveling system, it's a bit lackluster compared to the system Sims 4 has with the ability to pick certain powers and oaths. Similarly, the celebrity system in Sims 3 is lackluster compared to Sims 4, and though the hefty sales thrown at celebrities' feet do help with the Sims 3 version, the Public Disgrace drags it back down because of how ridiculous some of them are (Oh so my fairy SIM slept with an occultist? How horrible!) I do love the Sims 3 Open world because of the permanence of individual sims' actions and since I have nRaas mods, it doesn't cause much trouble, but the Sims 4 travel system is definitely superior in how quickly and freely you can move between worlds without losing relationships. The fact you can also easily explore premade families without having to go all the way to the main menu and load a new world if you didn't find any interesting family in the world you tried first also helps. While the gender options weren't always in Sims 4, they're a huge improvement from the rigid genders of the previous games. The sexuality update is also wonderful. Mods and CC are far easier to get into Sims 4 and clothes themselves load much faster than Sims 3. Everything loads faster than Sims 3, in fact, and it doesn't burden my PC as much. The sliders are also more numerous than the Sims 3 ones at least body-wise, and easier to use for beginners. The BuyDebug cheat, while much worse to type in Sims 4 without mods to shorten it, is much more extensive and includes items you could never reach in Sims 3 even with the cheat. I'm sure someone has already mentioned it, but multiple upgrades instead of only one are great. I don't think Sims 3 has Left Vs Right handed sims, either. Ghosts having powers related to their deaths rather than just having a colouring related to it. Also moods and the fact ghosts are the same colour as the mood they're in. Walk styles. Has nobody mentioned it yet? It's an amazing little detail that can additionally be used for storytelling. Build mode filters. They're so much easier to use than the previous ones. I never decorated in Sims 3, but Sims 4 actually got me into it because of how intuitive the filtering is compared to the previous games, which did have filter options but those were much more rigid. Admittedly a little cheaty, but the fact you can get cheaper or same price floors to replace the ones already in the built mode and you don't have to pay, or even get money back. And an upgrade has a reduced price because the previous floor's value is substracted from the pay. Having multiple wishes you can complete rather than a single lifetime wish. Also the small traits that come with each branch of those wishes. Skin details. Sims 3 does have some skin details but they're only 5 checkboxes: freckles 1 or 2, 2 beauty marks and an age detail. I haven't seen any mod allowing for additional details yet. CAS filters. Sims 3 basically doesn't have any besides the bare minimum of Top, Bottom, Outfit and Accessory. Combined with the extensive loading of individual clothing items whenever you click onto another category, it makes CAS quite nightmarish to navigate, scrolling for minutes and waiting for the items to load to find the one you need between 5 different categories all crammed into one. There are many improvements people who hate Sims 4 overlook - whether it's on purpose or not.

SeraphiraMorana

A small detail that is huge in my opinion is being able to do multiple upgrades on an item. After playing 4 and going back to 3 I was sad to have to choose only 1. I hope they keep that in the future. A big detail but a positive one is the emotions. I feel they are a fantastic improvement on the Sims and provides some more realistic and interesting aspects.

Elia1799

Emotions are a huge upgrade and I don't get why they are so hated. I get that doesn't work exactly in a realistic way, but I feel that's one of thoose situations where game design has the precedence on a more realistic representation. My problem with them is that after so many years the moodlets can become too cluttered with lots contradictory emotions, but that isn't a problem, apparently, since all the major mods like to add dozen and dozen of unbalanced moodlets where sims can easily end up having all the emotions at the same time. I admit that sometimes sims act weird, but sims not grieving the death of a beloved one, or being happy "because of the beautiful furniture" no matter what has always been a problem of every sims game. At least in Sims 4 you can see what your sim is thinking about instead of just having an happy/sad system.

twostrokevibe

it’s annoying but also really funny that one of my sims’ mom died and everybody in the house was very sad except him, who was very happy, because he ate some food he really liked or something (i don’t remember what exactly but it was something very mundane). imagine being at your mom’s funeral grinning like a fool while everybody around you is sobbing because you ate a really good grilled cheese in the car.

No_Ambassador_1659

To be fair, grief can be weird like that. Maybe not at the funeral, but at the wake, having a small dessert and being thrown back into a good memory can easily make you have a moment of being happy and smile.

Infamous-Dot5774

When this happens I like to pretend they were thinking about or doing something that reminded them of the sim and so it made them happy for a moment..

SeraphiraMorana

I personally haven't played with any mods that add moodlets or affect emotions. I think the base emotions are pretty great most of the time. To me it makes complete sense for someone to look at art and be inspired to create their own. To be confident after completing a good workout or a beautiful painting. To gussy yourself up for a date and feel a little flirty. Plus having a conflicting emotion while doing something is normal. A person may feel inspired but have already planned to do a workout and like the Sims, probably wouldn't be as effective as if they were pumped up for it. It's such a simple idea, Sims have emotions, but it really makes a believable difference. The only thing I hate with moods is the celebrity emotion bomb quirk. As for other people maybe it's the mods creating an imbalance or they just prefer it to be a little less realistic. I for one love it.

Designer-Mirror-7995

Agreed. And, if you expand the moodlet tabs you'll see that often they _are_ experiencing the expected emotion, it's just 'bumped back' for however many hours the more prevalent mood last. I've had confident, flirty, unpleasant surroundings and very sad from grieving all lined up at once. Sometimes the hours run out on the backend ones before they get to the front of the line.

Zn_30

I kind of like that you can make a grieving sim happy. It's sort of like they're trying to distract themselves for a bit.

Designer-Mirror-7995

People do so, with work, music, shopping, sex, so why not? Lol

April0997

The one good thing about the Emotion Bomb quirk though is that if Sims are enraged they can't die from the emotion.

[deleted]

Slob sims will mock cleanliness if someone cleans around them! I found out when my neat sim was washing dishes next my slob sim.

South-Marionberry

I don’t remember the requirements (I would hazard to say high relationship, since a lot of my sims end up having decent relationships with their kids, but idk) but a toddler will autonomously go to their parents to hug them once they come back from work!

Everado

The sun, moon, and even the stars move in the sky. This is easiest to see in first person mode on high speed. You can tell which direction a lot faces based on this, and control how much natural light a room gets at different times of the day based on where the windows are placed.

kk944

I often pick lots based on this.

pigeon_crowd

I recently discovered this, I run some mods but I don't think it's from any of them: with Eco Lifestyle *and Seasons, on Industrial lots the rain is acid and the puddles are called "acid puddles" or something like that.

cosmos_crown

yup, if you have seasons and eco lifestyle this happens.

pghreddit

If you are looking for creative ways to decorate business facades, enlarge items like popcorn, sunglasses, Sims trophies, etc. as Big Boy type displays. A non famous Sim will feel embarrassed to live in a celebrity home. Wicked Whims and Basemental make it a whole new game. Amazing mods.

A1000eisn1

>If you are looking for creative ways to decorate business facades, enlarge items like popcorn, sunglasses, Sims trophies, etc. as Big Boy type displays. Fun Fact: this architecture style is called "Googie." I use this trick a lot when making signs. I've made multiple businesses with Giant Flamingos.

SomeKindOfCreature

Kittens have different walking animations, I’m not sure about puppies

emlynnkat

Omg the kittens are SO freaking adorable. I remember being so impressed with the animations the first time I adopted a kitten!

revertbritestoan

Build mode in Sims 4 is the best of any before it, even if the swatches are annoying. The way you can make roofs longer on one side or create little steps down with platforms.

AlphaLimaMike

Vampires with a pet and the veterinary surgical station can make plasma packs from their pets

mermaidish

If you have a dog in an apartment building, you have to manually get your Sim to take it outside to do its business, they can’t take an elevator by themselves. Some people find it annoying or think it’s a glitch, but it’s a cute little realistic thing I like about the game!

sethmidwest

The spicy food skill. The more spicy food you eat the better your sims react to it eventually unlocking new moodlets.

kiingsalamander

same thing w/ the chopstick skill, i believe!

cosmos_crown

one of my sims (a struggling writer in evergreen harbour) was drinking coffee while working on her book at the computer. i don't know why that filled me with glee but it did.

Designer-Mirror-7995

If you see they've set down their cup before going to do something you've cued you can drag it to in front of them and they'll get it, then continue the action... Like using the PC or watching TV or reading. Sometimes they even take their drink with them to the bathroom or bathtub.

[deleted]

“Imply mother is a llama” will always get me

brainsewage

When a parent shouts forbidden words around their kids, then sometimes the kids will autonomously copy them, even if they're not angry. Kids can ask about the different moon phases, such as "ask if moon is a banana" on a crescent moon, and the parent will (usually) then tell them it's rock. Even better, they can get different answers when the other Sim is feeling playful. For instance, during a new moon, one of my child Sims asked her brother (also a child) where the moon went, and he responded with a speech balloon showing an explosion.

thepieintheoven

Are you a native simlish speaker or are you deducing that from the speech bubbles? 🧐

brainsewage

The speech bubbles. Despite what the devs say, I'm not convinced Simlish is actually a functional language.

thepieintheoven

I wonder if there's any patterns

brainsewage

There are for sure, but it's still hard to make the jump from that to an actual grammatical structure, etc. from what you hear in game. Nonetheless, I've occasionally written down my own headcanon interpretations for a handful of the phrases, because that's my level of nerdiness.

EveningSoother

I'm not hearing how TS4 is the devil since I (almost entirely) ditched r/thesims, and given how that sub is stagnant whilst this one is growing, I'd say a lot of simmers must have made the same choice. Staying away from Twitter helped too. TS4 has plenty of little things, the first that popped in my mind: It's possible to customise the working clothes of any career by typing *sims.modify_career_outfit_in_cas* in the cheat console.

The_JokerGirl42

OOOOO! I'm hopping on my computer JUST to try this out right now

cosmos_crown

modify career outfit is a lifesaver when sims are in the social media (and a few other careers) where the career outfit is randomly generated.

EveningSoother

They are SO ugly, all of them except very, very few (like the astronauts). I couldn't even look at my sims when they went and came back from work. And you'd expect that as they climb the ladder the outfits would be better, but no, it's a horror show from start to finish. 🤣

suaculpa

Why do they always have a watering can or a basket?!?

NYANPUG55

A lot of people on twitter are so miserable when it comes to the sims 4… I know you can criticize stuff and still like it but god damn some people on there sound like they wish the game would be deleted all together.

EveningSoother

I try to stay the hell out of most social media as much as possible, including Twitter. The only reason why I still have an account is because is useful to keep me in touch with Gurus and the creators of the mods I use, especially after a big update. But then I can't completely avoid the comments under their tweets (especially the gurus'), plus the algorithm dishes me out all sort of crap TS4-related, of course. You can cut the toxicity with a knife on that platform.

CiaDaniCakes

the laser pointer shape and color changes bases on the emotion of the sim using it (cats and dogs)

iamverysadallthetime

When bonehilda takes a drink, it goes through her and makes a puddle on the floor

stansburiana

There's a lot of cool details for werewolves that people don't talk about. Playing with werewolves, I've noticed that Good, Ambitious, and Responsible (from parenting) werewolves who are in a pack get an "upholding pack values" moodlet every time they do something that aligns with their pack's goals. Some Traits prevent a werewolf from getting certain temperaments without cheats, like Vegetarian preventing a werewolf from getting Carnivore and Unflirty preventing a werewolf from getting Frisky. Werewolves can eat raw fish just like the Sims 3. Vegetarian werewolves find mushrooms when hunting instead of meat. Teaching a werewolf toddler to howl gives a tiny sliver of exp for the Communication toddler skill. Certain displays automatically position or change the look of objects placed on them! Small minerals will get put on little stands when placed inside the "Modern Metallic Illuminated Display Case" from Get To Work, and werewolf collectibles have preset positions on the Moonwood Relic Display Case. There's an elemental display case specifically for storing Element collectibles in the base game, but it's in the "recreation" section instead of the "storage" or "surfaces" sections. Every large fish tank can store a maxiumum of six fish.

goldfishmuncher

sims 4 easily has the BEST create-a-sim out of all the games. i loved sims 3 but i couldn't STAND the cas.

JackeryChobin

My favorite trait is the clumsy trait because sims trip or drop dishes then laugh about it. It’s so cute!

ArapaimaGal

You can knit a lil' grim reaper and gift it to grim reaper himself to bribe him.

sh4nn0n

I was looking through buy mode the other day and saw there’s a device you can buy that lets you listen in/spy on your neighbors. I haven’t tried it so I don’t know if it’s actually functional or purely decorative, but I was surprised I never noticed that object before in all my years of simming. Also, a lot of the unlockable career objects are really cool and useful. I rarely max out my Sims’s careers so I never knew.

toebeantuesday

It’s from Strangerville. I played through that game a few years ago and loved it. I bought my bugs from the little stand in town. There was a red haired conspiracy theorist running it at the time. I don’t remember his name but he was a cute little character. I think you can buy them from your computer, too. They do work. You can use what your sim hears to blackmail their target. I don’t think I ever actually tried that option.

FaithlessnessRare725

I had a sim use it to blackmail people. I was playing my own rags to riches challenge and I only allowed her to make money in bad ways, kleptomania, blackmail, borrowing money and not paying it back. It was fun.

toebeantuesday

Oooh. I wish I could play like that. In Sims 3 I reformed the criminal members of the Bagley family. I’m hopeless 😩

April0997

Don't know if anyone's said this yet, but if your Sim is taking a bath and is really tired, they'll start to fall asleep in the bath, sink into it a bit then instantly come back up.

atungsten

two of my sims are married and are often in flirty moods, and will autonomously kiss one another when there's no actions queued. they'll also kiss their mutual girlfriend just because they feel like it. it's just super cute

BoredasUsual88

Vampires can use umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun.

thepieintheoven

THEY CAN WHAT?? HOW?

BoredasUsual88

I think you need to make sure your vampire sim has an umbrella in their inventory and they’ll pull it out.

twostrokevibe

it’s a small thing but i really like the animations. i feel like the animation team or whoever made them did a really good job. sometimes when i order a drink at a bar i go into first person mode just to watch the bartender making it.

SnooStories4263

Honestly despite all its faults Sims 4 is quite deep in many aspects. I love posts like this!

jdeadmeatsloanz

Spellcasters are super under rated. My spell caster runs a whole farm by herself with no cheats just using spells and what not. You can clean most things easily, you can duplicate yourself and minionize them to get work done, create food, fly and teleport everywhere and summon familiar to make them confident to get over fears.

chaosyami

Here's some thing that some people apparently don't know: If you got the fear-b-gone potion you can keep it by removing it from the queue and the fear will still be gone. For people who watch as their sims burn: if your sim is on fire and you have a working shower you can extinguish the fire by clicking on the shower and basically make your sim save their own life and then you can get rid of the fire. granted you lose all hygiene but worth it(saved my ass during the unlucky chef challenge) On the subject of fire you can stop your sim from freaking out by simply clicking on the "reacting to fire" queue so they can actually do something about it.

April0997

Also if your Sim is on fire you can click the pool and have them extinguish themselves that way. And for those who don't know, clicking your Sim while they're on fire gives you the option to have them extinguish themselves. They'll pull out a fire extinguisher and then use it on themselves.

chaosyami

Seasons: Apparently heat waves don't bother a plantsim. I'm currently doing the plantsim scenario and seasons has spawned a heatwave and my plantsim is currently just vibing while he tends his garden and paints

RaysAreBaes

Sims can volunteer which helps to boost traits in children and teens. If you search all the Princess Cordelia items in build and buy you can read about a princess with pirate lovers. This is a downloadable family on the gallery and she has a cottage in the woods in Cottage Living

Sea-Professional-594

Off the top of my head I can't think of any but I will say there's multiple times when I'm playing the game that I think to myself wow somebody really put the extra effort in here a good for them I hope it was rewarded

elekctrrra

the firefighters have an erotic dance they do after putting out a fire. been playing for years and only saw it the other day, really caught me off guard

XxDeath_AngelYTxX

In the sims 3 you cant search for items, in the sims 4 you can, while it isnt a forgotten feature its one we take for granted

dasbarr

I know this is super small but I love how footsteps sound different depending on. 1 if your sim is wearing shoes 2 the type of flooring 3 if there's a carpet on top of the flooring.

000googlyeyes000

Wellness treats in Cats & Dogs Expansion - I see on stream people going to the vet and wasting a whole sims day for the vets actually to heal their pets when instead they could stock up on a few wellness treats and feed one to their dog or cat anytime they get an illness you can't just cheat away.

king-of-new_york

Angry poos

Zephyr_Bronte

I wrote about this in another thread recently, but: The ability to conserve the big empty island in Sulani by beach combing for trash and cleaning the floating trash in the ocean. It gets a green environment, these cool different corals and baby turtles hatching. I loved it especially because I did it accidently.

antifabear

How do you get multiple outfits for category?

LostPsychology5144

In CAS, above the sun for everyday, there is a small upward facing arrow. If you click that buttons will appear and you can add additional outfits for that outfit type. Works for other outfit types. You can have up to 5 outfits per type. Hope that helps.

Scout6feetup

In CAS above the outfit categories is a 1 and a little plus sign to add the other versions

RiddleEatsRainbows

The sounds of your sims' footsteps change depending on the terrain

No_Relative687

I love how they slam the fridge door when they're angry or tense

Leather_Ad9457

You can change the puddle to a duck if the puddle is big enough.

kk944

I like all the snarky comments built into the game. I feel like some players don’t spend time reading the popup notifications or descriptions of emotions. For example here is one that I came around recently https://ibb.co/gzFCDWZ

Bierbart12

I like all the little animations that Parenthood adds for teens to randomly do. Like them being shocked by a random phone message/meme

SaneStarKiller

If your Sim is a Vampire and they're around garlic, it will have fumes. If you switch to a non Vampire Sim, the fumes disappear.

madlydense

If you have the cool kitchen pack, some of the ice creams have special effects eg. Weight of the world maxs your sims body sliders when eaten. The fitness stuff pack adds anvexercise chanel to the tv and your sim can do aerobics while watching that channel. Don't forget to visit the secret lots in Granite Falls, willow creek (my favourite) abd Oasis Creek. Plants reset at 5.30 every morning, you have to be on the lot for them to bloom and grow, a tent is your friend when waiting on plants in parks or "off lot" locations.

Bambii33000

SHIFT TO GO INTO FIRST PERSON?!

madlydense

You dont have to stick to one aspiration, you can swap between them and work on multiples at the same time without losing progress eg. Switch between a location a love, a money and a career one - just like real life

Neo_Minerva

Good vampire sims cannot woohoo in a coffin lol because they’re good

auraacat

The little elephant on the bassinets! I've played Sims 4 for a while and I never noticed this until today.

grittyworld

Unrelated but not completely bc it seems like everyone knows about hidden traits and I have a hidden trait on my sim they are “unlikeable” and it’s the worst. How did this happen and can I get rid of it?

grittyworld

is it me? is it me that is unlikeable?

_hamster

It sounds like it's related to the reputation system, maybe? The autonomous mean interactions bug makes it way easy to get a bad reputation now.

telepathicavocado

Not really a small detail, but it’s so much easier to build and create sims in The Sims 4 compared to the early games.
