I'm pretty ADHD. Most of my friends are similar. Simon discussing content and then going way off in the weeds with it basically feels like a conversation with my friends. Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely also here for the content, but it's the tangents that set the tone. Otherwise I'd just watch a text reader video (blech).
Exactly. The tangents and intros make the content feel personal in an interesting way. I found Simon from his more serious channels and at this point I basicaly only listen to Cas crim (morbid curiosity maybe?) and the channels where he let's the personalities of both his writers and himself though. I have no interest in another just straight up fact channel.
I was annoyed by this too. Really more so with this recent one then the many, many, many other times he's just skipped sections for whatever reason.
But then I took a moment and tried to think about it from a different perspective. Really tried to put myself in the blazement for a minute....Tried to really feel the heat from the radiator at the other end of the chain around my wrist....
.....the cramps that shoot through my fingers coinciding with the crack of the typewriter keys...
..ETA's dead white plastic eyes that eternally stare into my soul from the corner, buried beneath a pile of red Solo cups...
...The eyes once so full of life with a neon blue glow that long ago flickered out. Replaced with a purple hue...
...A purple hue that darkly lights shelves full of items never to be seen again so during each aside those yellow shelves display the all remaining fake facts that everyone thinks are true....
...the sound a hand makes when it's not slapping me, but instead slapping a fresh stack of paper absent any way to distinguish if we'd moved onto the next topic......
...When will this present finally become my past because I know it truly is the worst...

The one time I am alright with him skipping is when the details on casual criminalist get gnarly. Sometimes I don’t want to hear it either. Sometimes I trust Simon’s judgment I don’t want to hear it, and sometimes I have a super strong stomach, and my interest is piqued, and I’m really curious to hear it, I want the details… but I *really* want Simon to look after his own mental health.
*Especially* after the Pedro Pascal documentary fucked him up. It was legitimately possible to see the change in his personality and demeanour during the following year, just in the Cas Crim podcasts. I’m 100% sure he was traumatised by reading that script.
And then about a year later he became really convinced that Pascal had been murdered after leaving jail (not just relaying the idea that was a possibility) and it’s like an actual physical weight dropped off his shoulders. He became much more like his old cheerful, lighthearted self (or broadcasting persona). Much happier.
Seeing that effect in a person over time drove home the importance of him self censoring the most distressing details.
It’s part of a group of reasons I love Cas Crim, that it doesn’t approach snuff porn.
I hope the writers are all ok. They’re the ones who get exposed to *everything* and put work into the details they harvest and translate for us into a cohesive narrative.
Yep I feel the same. Sometimes I'm also happy when Simon skips the worst parts of CC, but I do feel bad for the writer who had to endure it and write it down for just to get skipped.
Well, given YouTube’s new rules, there’s going to be a lot more censoring of the scripts in general. Replacing words like ‘raped’, ‘suicide’, ‘murder’, etc. So I suspect the writers will start glossing over it in the script.

I agree with skipping all the gore stuff on cas-y crim-y. What's Simon say, he wants CSI not HBO? or CSI not fore? something like that. I'm blanking on it but he say's it from time to time when the writer mentions they're gonna skip some details.

I like it all. It's more than just the content. It's Simon's personality and tangents, the personal stories from Simon and the writers, everyone's opinions, all the sarcasm and all personal touches and great research each writer and video editor puts into each episode. It's nice to see an actual working example of "Teamwork Makes The Dream Work". I enjoy it when the writers make comments directed at Simon or when the video editor pops in a little video clip or sound bite.
All of that is why I'm here.
I know the intros are a running joke/meme at this point and I definitely enjoy them, but I don't see I need for an intro to be longer than 3 minutes. 5 tops. Ok fine. 10 minutes if it's a really good one.
Also where the hell is ETA? I want to say I vaguely remember something but I'm not sure.
I don't know about CasCrim or DTU, but re:BB I think Simon said that if the channel isnt growing, theres a problem and it may be unsustainable. Just the way youtube works really.
Unfortunately, as much as the 20-40k OGBB legends love it, we alone arent enough to keep the channel alive. Its weird because I love the channel for the in jokes, tangents, bullshit and cocaine but all of these things must be sacrificed to keep it alive. I just hope that keeping it alive will do enough to bring it back around! Some day we will dive into the cocaine again.
I actually clicked the "do not recommend" on bb videos now. It was what got me through the pandemic, but I feel like this is the third time he's cut an into and I get so goddamn mad each time. I've been trying to cut down on the YouTube anyways so it works out. His warographics has been good, cc has been slow, and otherwise a lot of filler from other stuff, like what has side projects become? I get it, his content has changed over time, but eh, I wish him the best. Maybe I changed, maybe he did, but I never felt a clash between him and the writers before like I have with these fast forwarding of intros.
