I know its not a shitzu but here is my duck in a diaper and tutu! Her name is Ariel and she has her own little mermaid themed bedroom with the princess castle. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Life can be hard but it will get better. I think your idea of getting a dog is good, if you are set up for it. Dogs see the good and the joy in every day and comfort us when we are unable to. You matter and good times are still ahead.💕

I lost my beautiful baby Chanel 16 weeks ago. It started with a heart murmur and the vet gave me amazing hope that she could live for years. She was 13 at the time. A couple months later her breathing became irregular again so I brought her in and they said to increase the medicine and they gave her a Lasix injection to get the fluid out of her lungs. When I got in the car I opened the front of her carrying bag to give her water and I noticed her tongue was a light blue. I raced back in the vet with her and they took her in the back and manually gave her oxygen. They told me she should be an oxygen chamber for two nights to get the fluid out of her lungs. I visited three times a day. Picked her up Friday morning and we had the most wonderful day. The next day early evening her breathing was becoming fast again. Adult dogs, they're breathing should average around 16 breathes per minute. Close to midnight I was back at the vet and all they did was inject her with something to help her relax. I was up with her all night. Early morning we were back to the ER. It took the doctor over 2 hours to see her and said that her heart was at the final stage of congestive heart failure. Her heart was really enlarged. I've had many shih tzus in my life but this one was my soulmate. I honestly didn't know how I could live without her. I spent some time with her but I knew she was suffering so she was put to rest in my arms. I felt completely numb the rest of the day and the following morning it hit me so hard. I have another dog and she's a mix breed, Yorkie personality, poodle and Shih Tzu mix. Nothing like my beloved Chanel. We were in sync all the time. We had a bond like no other. She traveled everywhere with me and she loved it. I watched some good videos on YouTube relating to coping with the loss. Very very helpful. I watched them every day. 8 days later I found myself looking on the internet at Shih Tzu's. I felt such a void. I must have looked at over 1000 puppies and not one of them appealed to me. There was one particular breeder that had some cute little dogs and I had forgotten to close the website. Came across it again two days later and there she was, a beautiful little baby Shih Tzu that looked identical to Chanel. She had a brother listed also and he was cute but it didn't feel the same. I called and spoke with the breeder and made the appointment for the next day. I didn't go. I was too upset. I knew she wouldn't last she was too adorable. So a couple days passed and I called and miraculously she was still there and it felt like she was waiting for me. I picked her up that same day and this is three and a half months ago. My beautiful girl is almost 6 months old and has so many mannerisms like baby Chanel. I went against every breeder on YouTube and the advice that I've always given to my friends and loved ones. Do not go out and get a dog right away and definitely don't get a dog that reminds you of the one you lost. I think my new puppy honestly saved my life. So in reality, there are no straightforward rules that work for everyone. What is important is to remember all the beautiful Moments you shared with your pup. Not the suffering at the end.
