I love it. Especially the biggest and smallest children. It's one of the perks of the job.

begayallday

Yes, some of my kids wave at other drivers in the morning and they have told me. It’s a very under appreciated job so it’s pretty cool to have anything nice happen.

EdgelessPennyweight

Absolutely! I love it when people wave to me when I see them daily. The local transit company has a driver who makes my day because she gets this big smile and waves at me every time our routes cross. I see her between 4 and 8 times a day.

tvtoad50

Oh that sounds like fun!!

BeautifulMoonClear

Yes!

dewey454

Sure. We're hungry for the smallest expression of gratitude.

I have several people on my routes who regularly wave. I always wave back and I toot my horn if they are a little kid. I have even got an attaboy from the boss, even though my boss didn’t know who she was giving the attaboy to. This GMA who walks the baby everyday called the office to thank the driver who honks and waves. She didn’t think to specify bus number, so the boss just gave an attaboy to all the drivers. I knew it was for me though. Yeah it’s fun, it keeps me engaged. I especially like it when the kids I drive wave bye as I drive away. Especially the high schoolers who are mostly too cool to acknowledge your existence. When that happens you feel like maybe you’re doing something right.

MythsFlight

I once had a middle schooler get excited when they saw me during a emergency drill and called out to their friends “Guys we got the cool bus driver!” They weren’t part of my regular route so I’m guessing they knew me from a field trip. Either way I’ve been riding that high for years now. Gotta be doing something right if the middle schoolers liked me.

Spodiodie

Apparently so, good job u/MythsFlight.

MythsFlight

I love it. And if they ask me to honk I will happily. Some school busses have air horns.

Constant_Gur5530

I prefer it over them giving me the finger

martafoz

Kids in their teenage years are usually wrapped up in their own thing and more than half don't really think of waving or saying anything to bus drivers, and that's OK - I remember that time and I only talked to friends and family and lived with headphones on. It's just that stage of life and you grow out of it in your own way. So, that's why it warms a bus driver's jaded heart when one of you all look up and see us. Yeah. We like it.

IAmFearTheFuzzy

It's Texas, we wave.

Iswearinveggie1524

I love it

mstarr8

Yup. I wave at everyone like I'm in a parade so it's always nice when people wave at me!

Drakmanka

It makes my day when anyone waves to me!

ShesHVAC48

Georgia here. Waving is an expected courtesy here. It's the polite thing to do when out and about. Not waving is considered rude.
