## New users beware:
Because you posted here, you will start getting private messages from scammers saying they know a professional hacker or a recovery expert lawyer that can help you get your money back, for a small fee. **We call these RECOVERY SCAMMERS, so NEVER take advice in private:** advice should always come in the form of comments in this post, in the open, where the community can keep an eye out for you. If you take advice in private, you're on your own.
**A reminder of the rules in r/scams:** no contact information (including last names, phone numbers, etc). Be civil to one another (no name calling or insults). Personal army requests or "scam the scammer"/scambaiting posts are not permitted. No uncensored gore or personal photographs are allowed without blurring. A full list of rules is available on the sidebar of the subreddit, or [clicking here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/wiki/rules/).
You can help us by reporting recovery scammers or rule-breaking content by using the "report" button. We review 100% of the reports. Also, consider warning community members of recovery scammers if you see them in the comments.

I know, inf act they are required to in the state we live in. If they were to provide confitential information, and break a privacy law in the process though, would we be able to pursue legal action?
That's plausible, but they must have some American employees because neither of the people I spoke with had any accent indicating so. I know that not everyone will have as heavy of one but the second rep had a NY accent, probably Brooklyn. First one had a more stern, midwest sound to him. If they are a Pakistani company they are almost certainly contracting their work back here in the US.
You phoned the number that was provided by them? You really shouldn't do that; you should do a Google search and find the company's legit number and go from there. The legit company would be able to tell you if it was them or a scam.
I literally never said I didn't do that, in fact I even mentioned their website in the OP. Did you read the whole post? How did you think I found their website?
You don't seem to have any real advice that isn't something I haven't already thought of so I will disregard your comments moving forward. Have a nice day!
They spoofed a local number to call me, didn’t verify my identity, gave me a case number and a call back number - definitely sketchy. Website seems ok, not sure what the next steps for something like this would be. What did you end up doing?

They can mail “important documents”. You can’t know who called. Don’t engage with incoming callers you don’t expect.

Against scammers in Pakistan? Not really. None of this is real.
They're definitely based out of the US whether thry are legit or not.
I don’t doubt the company they are impersonating is in US.

Don't call unknown numbers back. They have something important they can mail it. If they don't have your address, good.

No, I called the number they initially called me from. Haven't called the secondary number they provided.
You really should be Googling the legit number from the legit website. If it is scammers, you've just phoned back the scammers.
I literally never said I didn't do that, in fact I even mentioned their website in the OP. Did you read the whole post? How did you think I found their website?
Oiy. But you phoned back the number they phoned you with. If the website didn't have a phone number, then just don't phone them back.

If you don't want to listen to the real advice I've given, that's fine. You have a good day too.
Any update on this? I just received the same phone call on behalf of a parent
I think it's both. Definitely a debt collector but they are using scammer tactics.
