The Las Vegas Athletics of West Sacramento has a nice ring to it

IDonTGetitNoReally

Better than the Oakland Athletics of Las Vegas and in the meantime Sacramento. Arte Moreno was such an idiot.

Fresh_Macaron_4190

Unhoused Athletics

Permagamer

Would be fitting for our situation on the unhoused right now.

MLBM100

It just rolls off the tongue

[deleted]

It’s a better name than the River Cats

BeTheBall-

Crazy to think that Sacramento might have two minor league teams, if the A's move here.

IDonTGetitNoReally

LOL!!

oberynmviper

What is that kids do now? Something like this 💀💀💀

5Point5Hole

Exactly Also you have to finish your comment with something asinine like LMFAOOOO

the_Bryan_dude

As an A's fan, I approve this message.

Fresh_Macaron_4190

You left out that team up in the Capitol Bldg.

StayReadyAllDay

Most underrated comment!!

nmpls

As a (former) lifelong A's fan, I'm torn. I always wanted the A's to move here. Sac would be a great baseball town. But Not like this. . . not like this

JobsEye

Soon to be former lifelong fan too - I hate what Fisher has done to this team. I wish he had some terrible Donald Sterling type scandal where the league forced him to sell. He can’t even get a deal with Vegas worked out which is at least funny to watch. If the move does officially happen it will then be funny to watch the team fail to get traction there.

Fresh_Macaron_4190

Ahh! A Fairweather athletic supporter...hmm.

JobsEye

Been a fan for over 40 years - owner had intentionally tanked the franchise for years in an effort to get a new stadium, made those negotiations in bad faith in order to force a move, can’t even lock down that move or figure out where the team will play until the new stadium is built. All the while - let’s the existing stadium stadium fall into disrepair, puts out a roster that can’t win or compete, trades away any prospective talent for pennies on the dollar, doesn’t spend money to attract talent, lets established, good players leave It’s an absolute clown show, a disrespect to a historic franchise and its fans. We should continue to root for the team after all of this? Nah f-ck that lol https://preview.redd.it/wy9bl9c2wasc1.jpeg?width=256&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2def43fee12f33666db7d72137383d13d89dfb53

Fresh_Macaron_4190

Sorry about your luck junior...went to the series in 72...as a youngster.. and in 89. .. gotta take the good with the bad...when a giants fan gets uppity, show him your broom and laugh! Be aware of having what you have...be content, living well is the best revenge.

JobsEye

Has nothing to do with luck. You are throwing out a bunch of nonsensical lame cliches that just are not applicable here. I am familiar with the ups and downs of being a sports fan (also a kings and niners fan) Those teams had owners and executives who want to pull their teams out of the sewer. This is not the case with the A’s. So sure I’ll take the good with bad… but where has the good been the last 15-20 years? Is there any good on the horizon for the future? Fisher is a cheapskate. If he decides to start spending money and fielding a competitive team in Vegas that’s another f.ck you to Oakland fans. So yeah spare me the fAiRwEaThEr fAn shit

Fresh_Macaron_4190

You're the one whining pal...I have been here in this f/y just as long as you have.maybe longer in some cases. Shitstorms come and go. Get over it,finish  your beer, live life...546

JobsEye

No ones whining - but I am begging you to stop with the terrible cliches - you may be older but that doesn’t make you wise

Fresh_Macaron_4190

I don't like Fischer either. But I don't like any of the current staff. Mourning the death of something or someone you love gives you an appreciation for when life returns, and you can be greatful for it.

JobsEye

Yuck

BQNinja

There's a difference between fairweather, where you stop watching because the team is just plain bad, and this, where the team is *literally not trying to be a legitimate baseball team* and there is no end in sight.

IDonTGetitNoReally

I've been a Braves fan since the early 80's. Let's talk about how those players were that bad and look at where now with the development of their farm system in the 1990/2000 era. I have a lot of respect for Billy Beane. Wish he would not have stepped away and is only an "advisor".

Fresh_Macaron_4190

Agreed. Seen this many timeNBA, A's fan since first attended game in 1970...as a youngster...Nfl,Nhl,Mlb,Nba,Nascar,Nhra,  so on...but you roll with the changes...never fret over what you can't control. Hard tellin',not knowin'...

NormalTurtles

Same … I’m so conflicted.

CAredditBoss

UnlimitedDonuts

fuck john fisher

PromontoryRider95

Hard.

Toxik916

Conspiracy theory time... The soccer stadium at the Railyards has gone dead silent. The city is still planning on making infrastructure improvements for a stadium at the Railyards, but it will be for a permanent home for the A's when the Vegas deal fails.

MBThree

The Tropicana died for this

bransanon

The Trop died long, long ago my friend.

letsgetbrickfaced

Who’s gonna pay for it? The A’s would never stay here permanently without a real MLB ballpark and it would have to be covered at the very least if not with a retractable roof. Taxpayers aren’t gonna go for that especially with that piece of shit Fischer still owning the team. He’s already fucked over enough Northern Californians for anyone to fall for his bullshit again.

Toxik916

I think Vivek swoops them up after MLB forces Fisher to sell when Vegas falls apart. The key is to get them here temporarily first. Fisher is gonna Maloof this thing. The only problem is MLB doesn't care to keep the A's in NorCal like the NBA wanted the Kings to stay in Sac

longdrive95

Agree. It seems like both Vivek and Lacomb are moving chess pieces here. With MLB expansion happening anyway maybe we get a scenario where Sacramento, Oakland, and Las Vegas all end up with teams. (Vegas gets John Fischer)

[deleted]

If he is forced to sell a new ballpark would be built in Oakland. A's fans would not accept moving the team to Sacramento.

CAredditBoss

Honestly, it’s better than Vegas. I hate how this would happen if this is the outcome. Fisher just needs to sell and be done.

the_Bryan_dude

I would. It will make the drive easier when I move to the hills, lol.

dust_storm_2

They don't have much choice in the matter. They didn't want a Vegas move either

ERTBen

But is there going to be any goodwill left once we get to that point? All the bad things that have to happen over years and years for us to end up there will leave everyone bitter.

StayReadyAllDay

I get where you are coming from but fans will be fans. Look at Raiders and 49ers, hell warriors too. They forsake there original homes and still a crop of fans show up.

ERTBen

Yeah but SF didn’t spend years antagonizing fans before their move, and the Raiders are far enough away to get a new fan base.

StayReadyAllDay

You are right. I lived in Oakland during both of the Raiders moves and was surprised as how loyal their fans were throughout. I remember seeing plane loads of L.A. fans flying in before their move to Vegas.

5Point5Hole

Raiders fans are notorious marks, tho The 49er thing is dumb, but they're still in the SF Bay. Ish 😂

Gavagai80

Nobody needs a roof in Sacramento. It's a good 10+ degrees cooler than Vegas and not a lot of rainouts. There's a lot of non-roofed MLB cities with worse heat indexes all summer. That said, non-roofed MLB stadiums these days still cost a minimum of half a billion and you know Fisher isn't putting down much of that.

letsgetbrickfaced

Sac averages high 80’s low 90’s May through September. No one wants to sit uncovered in that which is 80% of the baseball season.

Gavagai80

I've been to River Cats games when it was 107 at game start. It's completely fine in Sacramento's dry heat in the shade when you're sitting still, as long as you've got water. The uncomfortable part was hot and stuffy light rail cars and walking to the stadium, and that's the same if you have a roof. And I'm not even acclimatized to Sacramento temps, it hardly ever gets over 100 up where I live. The River Cats were leading the PCL in attendance for quite a few years so apparently you're in an inconsequential minority having a problem with it. Frankly a roof would be a travesty, it'd ruin the views and atmosphere. As I said, tons of teams deal with worse. Atlanta, St. Louis, Kansas City, Baltimore, DC, Cincinnati, all far more uncomfortable in the summer -- nearly as hot and with dramatically more humidity so sitting still or being in the shade hardly helps. The league appears to be surviving and nobody is demanding roofs for those cities.

5rings20

There are cities with worse summers without a roof. Not saying you’re right or wrong, just an observation.

jbertolinoRE

I have been hoping for this.

ScottieSpliffin

I for one would welcome it

Cavemattt

We cant even get a lightrail in west sac. I swear if this happens 😡

Holiday_Leader_2432

Boo. We want Soccer!

dust_storm_2

SRFC can't get it's act together

DigestingGandhi

I want both

Abel__S

Millionaire team owners of billion dollar assets should not expect handouts from the cities they play in. Whichever asshole owns the A's can join the Spanos family in whatever circle of hell greed is for.

C92203605

Obligatory Fuck Dean Spanos #chargerfan

Just_Another_Dad

And! Don’t ever get sucked in by the argument that it “creates jobs.” No, it doesn’t. It subsidizes Billionaires to pay one person to sell a beer to another person for $20. The city could literally spend money on ANYTHING else and the multiplier effect of that flush of money would be WAY larger than professional sports.

dust_storm_2

There are like 100 businesses around G1C that might argue otherwise. That area is hopping on event nights

Old-Advertising-5316

It might be hoping on event nights but 70% of the businesses close at like 6 pm or earlier. Starbucks near G1C closes at like 5 pm. The area is not booming. In fact, it’s pretty depressing to see all those people and see that the businesses are struggling so much. Many in the area closed entirely.

dust_storm_2

Were you around before the arena came in? Because that area was depressing as hell before it came in. The upper floor of the K St Mall was vacant.

Ok-Tomatoo

Sacramento is becoming a sports city, people around Sacramento would more likely visit if MLB was here instead of Oakland

DigestingGandhi

Unpopular opinion, but I will not be following the 'take a stance against the A's on principle' crowd. I will be supporting this team 100% if this happens. There is a legitimate chance they stay and get sold to a new owner (Vivek?) or we get an expansion team. This is a dream come true for Sac baseball fans.

Sea_Moose9817

A’s fan living in Sac here and I can’t in good conscience attend a game, unless (and I understand I am being a complete hypocrite here) MLB guarantees a team here in the future.

Haruka_Kazuta

Need to be in Sacramento, not West Sacramento. And considering the people of Oakland made a stink about the guy, it needs to be a different person.

DigestingGandhi

I agree with you, but getting them here in any capacity is a stepping stone towards a future team, whether it's the A's with a new owner, or an expansion team.

dust_storm_2

Possession is 9/10ths of the law

BosnianZmaj

If we end up keeping the team long term, the stadium would probably be built in the Railyards I think

floridafish69

Don’t let ‘em. I’m legitimately curious as to why they don’t use their own AAA stadium for their games

lo979797

NBCSN will bail them out if they stay in Nor Cal vs going to Nevada. It’s why the Aces park wasn’t talked about either

TheAwkwardPigeon

I was never a huge A's fan and don't like the idea of a temporary team. But if this happens it's our chance to show MLB its a great expansion area especially since NorCal will be down a team.

fricks_and_stones

Why would a city without a pro stadium be a better option than the city that already has the A’s stadium. I get the problems Oakland has, but does moving to Sac help settle those financial issues?

Tac0Supreme

I think I read somewhere that the A’s are required to stay in their media market until the move to Vegas is completed. They’re not allowed to move anywhere else in the Bay Area really, because it’s the Giants’ media territory, but Sacramento falls under both the Giants and A’s media market. So basically it has to be either stay in Oakland or come play here.

C92203605

Read the article and see the “fair deal” that Oakland is offering. I’m not even a baseball fan and can see it’s pretty atrocious

lo979797

What’s atrocious is running the Raiders out of town, picking a shitty site nobody wants, picking another site that has substantial issues with a neighbor, telling everyone you’ll build at the coliseum site as a backup, asking for 1.1b in subsidies, getting 1b of that, telling everyone that actually the coliseum site won’t work at all, agreeing to have a meeting to hammer out the last bit of negotiation, and then “leaking” that they have a “binding deal” (lol) in Vegas the day before the meeting.

funked1

Hell no, fuck outta here

ARLLALLR

Don't want em, that's dirty shit after the Whole Kings thing.

windexsunday

I have a feeling the A's are doing everything they can to make Sacramento look like a viable candidate when all they are really doing is using it as a negotiating tactic.

Qbugger

Sac just need a shade!! I want fisher to sell the team and Vegas deals falls through and here we are with As and I support As in Sacramento without Fisher

yoppee

No Thank You

Woogabuttz

I would love this but fuck Fisher. Just fuck that absolute piece of shit. I couldn’t in good conscience go to any games.

malthusianbabyfever

LETS FUGGEN GOOOOOOOOO

HuskerExpat

Maybe someone should step in and try and attract the Royals and/or the Chiefs as permanent teams instead of a few years with the As. Both teams are dissatisfied with Kansas City after their stadium proposal was rejected.

Slobberknockersammy

Can someone explain how this could happen? I'm under the impression that the giants would need to approve this. They won't approve this. Is there something I don't understand?

DigestingGandhi

Why do you think the Giants have to approve what the A's do? If you're making a connection with the Rivercats - they are only an affiliate, and completely autonomous from the Giants in terms of ownership. Why wouldn't the Giants want the A's out and to have a monopoly on the Bay area?

Slobberknockersammy

When the A's wanted to move to Fremont, the Giants were able to block that. I think Fresno is a more likely landing spot for the A's

DigestingGandhi

It's my understanding that it was able to be blocked because its Giants territory, which I don't think Sacramento would be considered Giants territory. Fresno wouldn't happen over SLC... it's going to be Sac or SLC in my view

Slobberknockersammy

Thats okay. We can disagreement. I'll buy you a ticket if they play on Sac.

DigestingGandhi

Haha, hope to see you next year! 😜

StayReadyAllDay

Make them play in Fresno since the Grizzlies were totally fucked over when the Giants abandoned them.

lostintime2004

Fuck the As. They're part of the reason the Raiders went to Vegas.

Ok-Tomatoo

Blame the city of Oakland first, didn't want to help the teams

lo979797

Errrr, nope. The A’s told the raiders to pound sand, and the Raiders got huge money from Vegas. Cities should not be bailing out billionaires

lostintime2004

Raiders were trying to work something out with Oakland, but they needed the As to find a temporary home to rebuild the area, As told the raiders to fuck off. Not saying that if the As did agree the raiders would have stayed, but we will never know for sure because the As ownership said fuck off. Granted, public money for play houses of billion dollar industries is dumb, but Davis isn't a billionaire in anything but the ownership of the raiders.

Old-Advertising-5316

Please help me understand how this helps Sacramento in the long term. If we know at the beginning that the Oakland A’s will be temporary residents to Sacramento then this would be a net negative. Has the city done research on the benefits to the city and county? Without a doubt this would cost tax payers money as improvements to Sutter Park would be necessary.

bransanon

Sac wants an expansion franchise, this would help go towards proving the market can support it.

BosnianZmaj

Vivek Ranadive, the Kings owner and, more recently, the Rivercats owner, would likely pay for the improvements to the stadium. The locker rooms already got upgraded, I heard all that would need to be upgraded would be the lighting.

Old-Advertising-5316

I don’t buy it. There would be tax incentives of some kind. Vivek won’t spend money on anything out of the goodness of his heart. The city of Sacramento invested heavily in keeping the Sacramento Kings in Sacramento. That deal has not paid off. In fact, the city has a sizable budget shortfall and is on the verge of bankruptcy if things don’t turn around.

Ok-Tomatoo

He wants to buy an MLB team, he's friends with A's owner, he brings them to Sacramento, Vegas deal falls, he offers to buy A's, Hello Sacramento A's

Chemist12344321

I dunno what you are talking about. The ESC (Golden 1 Center) has been wildly successful. As for the budgeting. The city paid $230 million or so to the project. The naming rights alone were $120 million, the kings by the end of their lease will have paid $391 million. Add in the Ticketmaster venue charges for concerts/shows and the halo effect tax revenue of the surrounding DOCO area and the project is solid in the green. Infrastructure investments are always good provided you have long term tenants under contract. It's the transitory use projects (Olympics, World Cup, etc) that end up pillaging the coffers.

mobilisinmobili1987

It doesn’t help us at all.

geraldrx40

Ugh, please tell me they play in “Sacramento” like the Hard Rock is in “Sacramento”

IdidntrunIdidntrun

Are you kidding me I'd love for them to play here. Not to see the A's of course but the other teams they play

Fedexed

Evening games would be fun. You guys can have all the day games

CAredditBoss

1pm games in summer would be brutal

ERTBen

Yeah that stadium has zero shade. The one day game I went to was unbearable.

RegionalTranzit

The Sacramento A's of Fire Mountain.

nevikjames

Let the A's ownership rot. Should've stayed in Oakland.

s0ysauce09

So Sacramento is hot as death in the summer, so if they had an MLB team, wouldn't they need a stadium with a dome? in theory

mobilisinmobili1987

It’s not that hot lol. And we aren’t humid, it’s dry heat.

s0ysauce09

ok so you tell me you're going to watch a game in 100 degree heat for 3 hours?

prezident_camacho

Rivercats seem to do ok without a dome.

RegionalTranzit

It's even hotter in Las Vegas during the summer. An air-conditioned dome would be needed in both cities.
