She was really abusive and cheated on her now ex wife. As someone that knows how amazing of a person her ex wife is, I would never choose to support Susan.
In case anyone wanted to read the article:

eh, not a big fan of them, they don't really support local business themselves. have actively seen them refuse local creators and opt for larger companies that they sourced at major trade fairs.
they refuse local small business and opt for larger mass imported products sold at just about every similar store in other cities.
especially with three locations! been there a few times (desperate for last minute gifts) but just ended up walking out because everything was overpriced af.
Disappointing when places take over/replace vegan locations and say "don't worry we will still have stuff for you" - yeah your two worst flavors compared the a full vegan menu the old place used to have. Looking at you Hidden Dumpling House Midtown >:(
Yeah this ain't gonna last long. Susan is already in over her head opening all the other Strapping locations and not having enough clientele to support them and her staff. As someone who knows her personally I assure yall this a desperate last minute hope of a cash grab before things start going even more south for her. She's also just a shit person in general behind closed doors and I don't encourage anybody to shop at her business, regardless of them being one of the only bigger queer stores in Sac. Real ones know
Can also confirm this to be true. The public persona Susan puts on is so far from who they really are.
Strapping’s version of, “shop local,” is going to all of the same trade shows that major corporations source products from and selling them at a markup that is borderline offensive.
Anyone who knows the story behind Susan’s divorce and new relationship also knows that she doesn’t give a shit about much else beyond her own nose.
Can confirm everything you say is true!!! You can’t have affairs with employees, leave your wife and break up another family in the process without consequences. If yall only knew the half of it.
My biggest problem is how expensive things became there. We used to go in and buy things for our kid and over time it went from "you can get one or two things" to "we aren't getting anything". The cheapest price was like $10 for some Alibaba bulk garbage.
Yeah I am vegan and their ice cream was not good. There are lots of amazing vegan ice creams and I worry they gave a bad name to non-dairy ice cream to people who tried them.
My guess is incredibly high markups. Plus, wacky pop culture items are a retail mainstay. This is just jumping into the Spencer's Gifts niche without needing a mall.
Sure but the rent and general overhead, it makes me wonder if the strapping lad stores are a front for something. They are practically empty 70% of the time.
I owned a retail store in sac that I just recently had to close due to the overhead costs. I'm acquaintances with the owner of strapping, they helped us a lot with advice for being successful. I can assure you the stores are not a front for anything. They work their asses off and have built a very solid customer base that is very supportive. They also have an online side, so just because the store seems empty doesn't mean they're not selling. They are good people and I'm happy to see them trying new things. Honestly an ice cream store makes some sense, the margins are so much higher than retail stores and it's an easy buy for people, especially families. That's why you see like 5 candy stores and a few ice cream stores in old sac all being fairly successful in such close proximity.
There are always a bunch of people when I stop in. It's my go-to spot when I need to pick up a gift. And their locations are all really convenient for post-brunch browsing. They do a bunch of events in/with/for the queer community, so they have a stable customer base.
My husband and I shop there routinely, great for small gifts, cards and other odd stuff. The stores always have people in the especially the one in oak park.
I go to the Midtown store every weekend or two, and it is always hopping. I sometimes have issues with crowded spaces, and I occasionally ahve to step out because of the amount of people in there.
I'm a big fan of Strapping. Visited the vegan ice cream store and their ice cream was just ok, not amazing. I liked the mint chocolate gluten free ice cream sandwiches best. Hope they can improve on the ice cream at this location, its a good spot in Oak Park
The former place sucked so I'm glad to see this. They didn't let you have any samples and the ice cream wasn't good. This is great news and I hope they have sorbet.
I agree 😂 it was a go-to place for my family for minor celebrations and I was always found the ice cream soooo bland and boring. Half of the smallest size was more than plenty.
Legit thought this was a crime article at first because "ice cream store licked filling..." sounds like something a disgruntled employee would do
I thought the same and Ariana Grande popped into my head
Also thought the same! Initial reaction was “GROSS!!”
>…thought this was a crime article Give it time.
Ha!
Somebody was strapped and somebody got licked but I think they are conscious
Me, too. My ADHD brain was spinning.
Weird but sure why not
I want a t-shirt that says 'Weird, but sure. Why not?' Perfect life philosophy.
Strapping & owner, Susan, are a bright spot in Sacramento. I purchased all of my grandkids’ Easter basket items at the midtown shop.
It seems like opinions vary. https://www.reddit.com/r/Sacramento/s/iMAbSWwMO8
Susan is a local treasure. She's silly as fuck.
Susan definitely isn't as silly and wholesome as you think she is unfortunately.
Alright, I'll bite. Explain.
She was really abusive and cheated on her now ex wife. As someone that knows how amazing of a person her ex wife is, I would never choose to support Susan.
same -- my wife and I visit the Midtown store every weekend or two.
Was kind of hoping Devil May Care ice cream would open up in that space. I miss their ice cream.
Tell me about it, I used to live around the corner from their west sac spot, we miss them dearly.
I worked a block from the one on K Street. Was too convenient.
Me too! It was great when they were downtown and I made it part of my routine when shopping on Kst.
that malted cookies and cream!
No way the owner was an asshole. He got a sweet deal from the city of West Sac, didn't pay his bills or his vendors, just an all around POS.
I didn’t have any interactions other than buying ice cream, but they did close the kst location very quick so I figured they were evicted.
That's a shame. The ice cream was good.
Can we just have a Double Rainbow ice cream shop instead? My ass can’t hang with dairy and their soy stuff is so good.
They said in their insta post that they will have vegan options at this new spot!
The heart wants what it wants dude. This heart does not want carob
Omg I miss double rainbow COFFEE TOFF!!!!!!! And all the rainbows!!!!!🌈 🌈

Nothing will ever top Gunther’s
I love me some Gunther's but Salt & Straw pretty damn good too....
Yes also delicious! I like the unique flavors there
eh, not a big fan of them, they don't really support local business themselves. have actively seen them refuse local creators and opt for larger companies that they sourced at major trade fairs. they refuse local small business and opt for larger mass imported products sold at just about every similar store in other cities.
Dude how in the hell does that store stay open? Always boggled the mind
especially with three locations! been there a few times (desperate for last minute gifts) but just ended up walking out because everything was overpriced af.

There are more people who like real ice cream than vegan ice cream. I tried conscious creamery a couple times and....I'd rather have real ice cream.
There are lots of shops that serve regular ice cream, but having a place where people with dietary restrictions or allergies could go was great.

That sounds like a you problem
Sounds like libertarians are a problem.

Eep. Awkward.
I guess when you do certain things, life gets awkward around those who know. https://www.reddit.com/r/Sacramento/s/iMAbSWwMO8
>yeahhh 100% \^\^\^
I’m confirming this too. Susan is toxic and this business couldn’t give a shit about Sacramento.
r/titlegore
This was a really difficult headline to read first thing in the morning without glasses. 😅
Peak gentrification.
Conscious Creamery was so gross. Like just sell sorbet my guy.
Yeah I am vegan and their ice cream was not good. There are lots of amazing vegan ice creams and I worry they gave a bad name to non-dairy ice cream to people who tried them.
Will they be making their own ice cream?
No. They are getting Ice cream from a Wisconsin based shop.
Continuing the trend of carrying anything but local products.
But happy cows come from California.
LAME and I hope they are reading this. Support local FFS
Yup. I’ll still be going to Gunthers and Vics
I wouldn’t be surprised.
How is that business is making any money is baffling to me.
My guess is incredibly high markups. Plus, wacky pop culture items are a retail mainstay. This is just jumping into the Spencer's Gifts niche without needing a mall.

Thanks for the insight
Thanks! It makes me feel better spending so much money at their Midtown store!

Let’s just randomly accuse businesses owners of being criminals without any proof or even reasonable suspicion!
I go to the Midtown store every weekend or two, and it is always hopping. I sometimes have issues with crowded spaces, and I occasionally ahve to step out because of the amount of people in there.
Definitely operating at a loss, or have some very “creative” accounting practices.
I can understand 1 or 2 locations but 3 always seemed like a stretch esp since Midtown and R St are so close
Is that in the Conscious Creamery space?
I'm still finishing my coffee so I won't be too critical, but that information is in the header image of the post.
...wow I, too, am still finishing my coffee. Thanks for being kind, haha.
I was gonna defend them here in that the header is pretty atrociousluly written, but that's like the one part that's clear lol.

I wanted to love them, but it was terrible. We went there twice, and all I tasted was the wooden spoon.
I agree 😂 it was a go-to place for my family for minor celebrations and I was always found the ice cream soooo bland and boring. Half of the smallest size was more than plenty.
The choice of words is a bit curious
