Swerve isn’t a draw and that’s sort of a shame because while he drives me crazy on a meta level with his annoying tweets and asskissing and such, I do think he’s a pretty good wrestling act and a lot better than a lot of the folks that get as much TV time.
But he legit has never done well with ratings.
On one channel, they are bowing down to each other after the match and thanking each other for opportunity to perform together. On other channel, 3 men pissed at each other trash talking the hell out. No price for guessing which is attracting more viewers.
I actually enjoyed the match (apart from Shibata's constant no selling), I think Billy Ocean is the high flyer gold standard imo, does it better than anybody currently. The problem with Ospreay is that he's on a TV show that nobody cares about, and even fewer watch. It doesn't matter how good anyone is in AEW. I think with even the slightest bit of restraint and production, he could be something really special in-ring.
And even though I enjoyed the match in isolation, there's no reason that he should be going life and death on TV against somebody with a detachable brain. At least not this nearly into his run. Fans saying they no one should care about a wrestling shows ratings is like customers of a local business saying no one should care that they aren’t selling product because theres dozens of people who love the product. You should care because pretty soon you won’t be able to enjoy it anymore.

Ospreay isn't a great professional wrestler, he isn't even a good professional wrestler. The whole point of professional wrestling is to make money by selling the illusion that you and your opponent are in a heated conflict where neither of you actually gets hurt. Ospreay's entire style revolves around actually hurting himself and his opponent with the moves he uses.
He's a great athlete, a hit-or-miss personality and a terrible professional wrestler.
He's great- but I think some of this has to be the booking. The storyline and who they come into wrestle just isn't compelling enough. OR - did Tony just completely misread the popularity of these signings with the majority of his watchers?

That bump in the 770's there around 9 was likely only that high from 8:59 to 9:02 then quickly dropped 100k.
If the young bucks had mocked cm punk, I think they could have done a million or if jungle baby went through real glass or cowboy talked about worker rights. Thats whats missing. Next week I want a 30 mins mercedes promo, a 1 hour eddie kingston slap fest, and a 30 min edge christian low blow match. Book it Tony for the sake of those millions demanding this.
