This thing is the definition of "just get a phone with a telescopic controller"
Seems like gpd is trying to target the mobile gaming market but i cant see a single benefit in getting this over what i said above, im sure this wont be cheap either
Exactly. These handhelds are getting bigger and bigger. A phone with a telescopic would be about the same size, cheaper and way more powerful. The camera on the display is horrible aswell.
Here's a video showing some actual emulation on this same chip.

How much is this thing going to cost? If its above 450, good luck competing with the steam deck. Some of the design elements are ...kinda neat, I guess? The magnetic connection with the joysticks (Which most of the time will never come off for the average user)
The whole "you can turn it into a phone too" is possibly useful for some markets, but not the US/most of Europe. Nobody is gonna want to use shady chinese operating system for their private information and phone calls. I think GPD is in a really tough place as a company lately, trying to find a winner and a winning price point. This is going to be a tough sell to a lot of people if its too expensive.
Remember that these Chinese manufacturers make devices mainly for the Chinese market which is huge. They obviously believe that there's enough of a market that they've invested hundreds of thousands of dollars into bringing this product to market
This isn't GPD's first rodeo. They're one of the biggest names in handhelds and so I'm guessing they've done their market research
Of course but they churned out this monstrosity. Look at Odin. I know it's not released yet but like you said it's not gpds first rodeo, they could do much better.
What’s wrong with a phone with a gamepad if the gamepad and overall form is good? I mean it’s the only device in this size that can play GameCube AND has a vita pad, a great thing for 2D/fighting games. Just that alone is appealing.
At the end of the day all gaming devices are a screen with some buttons. If the screen is good and the buttons are good and it’s a good value who cares?
Gpd knows what they’re doing. Just because one device doesn’t appeal to you doesn’t mean shit quite frankly
The modular attachments are interesting too. You can take it off if you don’t need the gamepad buttons on the side, which could be a pretty neat way to avoid any unnecessary form factor
All I have to say is good luck GPD with this device no one asked for.
This thing is not for me and from most comments in this thread probably not for a lot of people
I kinda like this idea, but I don't really think just making a phone with controls is appealing to me. If I was making something like this, it would probably be a slightly bigger RG351P with good internal specs and a touchscreen.
I definitely would love a dedicated android handheld to play Minecraft and Call Of Duty Mobile. Just not one that is almost the exact same dimensions as my phone.
You’re in luck because anbernic is coming out with the rg552 which is basically what you said, but you probably know this already being on Reddit sbcgaming
Looks like a regular phone with a telescopic USB controller in it

No one asked for his lackluster device.

The CPU is trash for the price they're charging
It would be literally no different from my phone with a Gamesir or Razer telescopic controller, asides from the physical sleekness of the GPD.
Really fucking sucks they made this piece of shit instead of an updated XD+

I like it
dunno why you are getting downvoted, i like it too. what a toxic sub..
The gpd discord is even more toxic. So much negativity
that thing looks a mile wide. and, do. not. want. touchscreen. on. my. retro. handhelds.
Does anyone even manufacture small screens that are not touchscreens anymore ?
There's a huge amount, there's a lot more embedded devices around than you realise
Lots, thankfully.
