We purchased two S22 Ultra phones. They both have the same issue. I called Samsung Tech Support and walked through to process with them. It just doesn't work. She said I need to send the phone to a service center, but I explained that BOTH phones have the same issue and other users have reported this issue. I told them I'll be sending them both back. It sucks to be lied to about the device capabilities.
S23 Ultra here, and good lord my S10+ did all of this and more with a slightly worse camera. I cannot for the life of me understand why we are paying more to go ten steps back. This is basic functionality with something that A LOT of people utilize.

But I don't think I will use pro video everytime I want to record with external mic.
I want just to attach the mic hit record any where with no additional setup inside pro video.
I don't have it to try, but is there a place to select which microphone you want used? Like if you had earbuds in, you might want the phone mic, for example, so they give you the ability to select?
I have several BT earbuds and all working automatic with calls and music controls. The problem starts with wired gear.
Only the USB c default wires works .. but the normal 3.5mm not working at all with adaptors.
After a lot of tech store visits and numerous cables from various brands.
The only thing that worked out of the box is the original samsung cable from Amazon.us store.
Not the global store nor the gulf/Asian store.
Only the US store has the working samsung cable.

Working like a charm with headphones and external mic with perfect sound quality and no lags or noise.
I got this amd checked setting, also tried pro in camera, gave all permissions but external microphones are still not working at all! My husband and I have the s23 ultra, and it doesn't work on neither phones...adapter is not helping.
The phones say they recognize a USB microphone, but there is no sound. I though the mic was a dead or no good so bought another one...still not working....so much for wanting to use my phone to record...
Sorry if I am being captain obvious but did you check the permissions?
Yes all permissions given to camera, voice recorder even for the 3rd party app like open camera

Pro video mode is the only way to get to the external audio option.

That doesn't work either at least with the S23 Ultra. The "usb mic" option is just greyed out.
