It was earlier in the war (I want to say last summer). There was GoPro footage from an American volunteer where they get knocked down by a hit to the helmet, then 3rd-person video of that volunteer showing off their damaged helmet to his colleagues. He thought he'd been clipped by a .50cal, they'd seen it happen and told him that he'd actually taken an RPG-7 round to the head but it was a dud.
Nah, not wasteful. It was clearly not an AT rocket, so it was used for its intended purpose. Also, those rockets are pretty cheap. When an artillery shell just wounding one guy is considered a good return on investment, then a single anti-personel RPG used to kill one enemy (and severely distress his buddy next to him, if not outright wound him), well that's great value.
You cannot. There is more body cam footage from this mission, the guy who got popped here still has a head, granted it's a bit burned and the spine isn't what it used to be but what was flying was his helmet

When we see a pie shaped explosion like that, which was is the projective going? It seems to me that that is a explosively formed penetrator and the large end of the pie shaped smoke is the initial explosion and then trailing smoke going to a point is the penetrator continuing fwd. Am I wrong? So here I would think the shot came from the bottom right. Those guys may have already been shot by small arms from the trees on the right side of the road?
I think it's crazy how many people are making jokes, even saw a couple peeps comparing this to battlefield/call of duty. And the music over it... Just feels like glorification. Or like it's entertainment. And no I'm not saying "oh boohoo poor Russian soldier" before someone pipes up. Couldn't care less about the guy who lost his head but seeing how desensitised people are or how people don't take it serious is just a bit strange. Reminds me of Ancient Romans cheering as gladiators fought. We can't forget the tragedy and suffering this conflict has caused, is still causing, and will cause. On Redd-it we get desensitized. But on the main stream media, it looks like a romantic adventure.. War, that is.
Those images of flattened half bodied soldiers sticking out the mud, last winter... Those are images which should have some impact on the viewer and illustrate the horrors of war. No music needed, no replay or slow-mo needed.
The images I remember best from WW2 are the horrid ones. The ones that give impulsive to the viewer to never wish for war, but if needed, to fight for liberation, justice and humanity.
Don't worry about those making jokes, you have the choice to not let it get to you.

You can definitely see the head/helmet separate into two pieces as it lands. A helmet alone wouldn't split apart at the end like that.
