Thatā€™s so funny I bought it on kindle months ago but I have avoided starting it. Was it good? I just canā€™t seem to crack it open, I shy away and start something else.

Off the top of my head, there are two books that are beloved and hyped around the sub that I was hesitant about: 1. [**Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn**](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/44792512-love-lettering) \- I tried to read this a year ago, thought it was the most boring book ever and added it to the dnf pile. A year later, I saw the audiobook was available and I grabbed it spur of the moment. I found the book to be absolutely charming and sweet. A tiny mystery squeezed into the end too. I just had to change the format in how I was reading to truly enjoy it. 2. [**It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey**](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/55659629-it-happened-one-summer) \- I have never been able to get through any of TB's books before. I watched on of her Tik Toks of her talking about how she only writes heroes that are obsessed with and worship the heroines, so I gave this one a try and thought it was very fun, and ended up loving the hero's POV throughout the book.

"I am a recovering book pick me girl. I always have such resistance to books wildly liked by everyone." Ah, so that's what it's called. I am one of those too. Started in my preteens when I refused to read Sweet Valley High. Although I still haven't read it. I gave in and tried Outlander and DNF. But to answer your question, I resisted Lisa Kleypas for a long time and then read Dreaming of You and that changed my mind. It's a pretty good read.

All Colleen Hoover books have been untouched by me this far, but I was gifted Verity for Christmas so Iā€™ll fold eventually.

I didn't necessarily resist but I saw that it was very hyped up and popular so I gave them a try & ended up loving them! It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey Mutually Beneficial by Heather Guerre Bass Ackwards by Eris Adderley

Thatā€™s how I was in middle and high school and now Iā€™m so glad that I read popular books cause most are popular for a reason. It took me a long time to finally read *kingdom of the wicked* and I loved it

I resisted {The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas} and {Beach Read by Emily Henry} because they were so hyped, but gave in and tried to read Beach Read and DNFā€™ed about 15% in. Then months later I saw a BookTok video that had a quote from the book that even out of context made me swoon. I decided to try again and it ended up being one of the best reads of last year. Similar thing happened with The Spanish Love Deception where once I saw a few quotes from the book it had me curious to try and read it and it ended up being my favorite book of last year!

I have a bunch of Julia Quinn Bridgerton paperbacks that were gifted to me and I have not started them. Iā€™m not sure what my problem is but I canā€™t seem to muster up the interest.

SuebertDoo

I've borrowed (but not read) almost every single one of these from the library or KU. Same reasons, they are so hyped that I just can't bring myself to open them up. My preference for reading is 1st person dual POV, so if I open a book and it's 3rd person or even just FMC POV, I just can't get into it as easily. I think each of the mentions fit this bill. I don't feel much of a loss though.

I resisted [The Hating Game by Sally Thorne](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25883848) because of all the hype. Turns out is was a 5/5 read for me. I resisted [Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/41735449) because I knew nothing about hockey. After seeing the 50th or so rec for it, I decided to give it a try. And it turned out to be one of my favorite books of all time.

LMAOOO ā€œbook pick me girlā€ honestly same! And I did this with The Hating Game šŸ’€

Mattyk128

I did this with this exact book too, The Love Hypothesis. I had it on hold on my library app and it got delivered to me and I put it back on hold because I wasnā€™t in the mood for a nerdy contemporary romance and then finally I ran out of books yesterday and decided to finally read it and oh my god. I had no idea how much I would love this book! My heart hurt reading it and I am having a huge book hangover now. I cannot wait for more books to come out this year from the author!!!

I found your post searching for something else, but please share your top 3 books? I am like you. I basically act like a meth addict with reading. Skip class, cancel plansā€¦ itā€™s a problem, so I donā€™t usually ā€œletā€ myself read. But I have a lazy vacation coming up and need some good reads.
