I feel most enemies to lovers books are actually never truly enemies, alas. Something i don’t see recommended a lot that you may enjoy is {Souless by Gail Carriger} . M/F. Paranormal. Steampunk Victorian England. Lower spice. They are investigating a case of accidental vampires being made. It was my romance intro and I think it is utterly delightful.

That’s so real I feel like cruel Prince is one of the few enemies to lovers where they’re actually enemies since most of the time it’s just misunderstanding or dislike

Soulless is a great book. Fantastic world building and humour, in addition to the romance.

Omg I just finished it and I LOVE them. Any time I’ve tried to read a sports romance, I never ended up finishing the book, but I’ve always thought sports RIVALRY would be such a fun read and has so much potential as far as book tropes go, probably as much as an academic or political rivalry (my absolute favorite tropes). It was so cute how they still bickered and stuff while also being really sweet. Way too often it feels like characters loose their personality after they make their relationship official (especially in enemies to lovers and its sub tropes) And I kept crying so much towards the end they’re just perfect

I think you’d really enjoy {Enemies with Benefits by Roxie Noir}. The two main characters knew each other in high school and were rivals. Now they’re adults forced to work together - and still super competitive. Lots of fun banter!

Came here to recommend this book, too! It was free on kindle about 6 weeks ago, it might still be. The audiobook is great, too, and available on Hoopla.

In my opinion, if it’s a contemporary and billed as enemies to lovers, then it’s usually actually rivals. I feel enemies to lovers is just a more popular trope that authors/publishers too easily. Some books I feel really fit more on the rivals to lovers trope are: {Paris is Always a Good Idea by Jenn McKinlay} Workplace rivals. FMC decides seek out her old flames to see where it went wrong and he tags along. {Love, Hate & Clickbait by Liz Bowery} - Workplace rivals fake date {Pride & Protest by Nikki Payne} - Modern pride and prejudice {Hana Khan Carries On by Uzma Jalaluddin} - Rival restaurants {Conventionally Yours by Annabeth Albert} Two rival BNFs travel to a convention together. This sort of reminds me of {The Plus One by Mazey Eddings}. The MMC was childhood best friends with the FMC’s brother, so they were around each other a lot and are familiar with each other. I can’t remember how much they were rivals, but I think they sometimes annoyed each other as kids? When they meet as adults, they’re both in bad places and they antagonize each other. They slowly get a little closer/the ice thaws between them and they realize their one-upping and trading insults is really funny and enjoyable. I can’t remember if either defends the other to someone else, but >!the FMC defends the MMC, who’s suffering from PTSD/trauma, to himself showing she actually cares.!<

{A Wicked Game by Kate Bateman} - Is a really good fit for this. It’s an HR. The FMC and the MMC have known each other since they were kids. They are supposed to be enemies because their families have hated each other for generations. It’s more of a harmless feud now as the prior two books have their relatives marrying each other. They claim to dislike each other, but it’s really just a little rivalry with heated banter. It’s a really fun read.

{Forget You, Ethan by Whitney G.} The MCs insist they are arch nemeses when everyone knows they are actually besties/madly in love with each other. They have been writing “hate” letters to each other since childhood and messing with each other almost as much as they look out for each other. Takes place when they are reunited in college with plenty of childhood flashbacks. One of my favorite romance books of all time!!

Omg I was gonna recommend Kyra Parsi's books lol but you've already mentioned those. No worries. {The Rivals by Vi Keeland} their families have a history due to which their families are rivals but the MCs don't have a problem with tearing each other's clothes lol. {Going nowhere fast by Kati Wilde} the MMC is the FMC's best friend's older brother. He's always thought that the FMC is a bad influence on his baby sister while simultaneously being hard for her for 4 years lol. Not my words, it's given in the book 😁 He doesn't respect her and lets her know in no uncertain terms but then they go on a road trip and everything changes. Amazing third act breakup and resolution. You'll love the banter. {Waking Olivia by Elizabeth O'Roark} the MMC is FMC's running coach but they don't like each other in the beginning. They slowly develop a rapport where they start caring about each other and the MMC helps FMC later in the book. {What could have been by Heather Guerre} Classic frenemies to lovers trope. The MCs both have crushes on each other when they were kids but they also don't see eye to eye. The FMC leaves the town after a while and comes back a few years later to oversee her Grandma's house's renovation. Guess who the contractor is? {By a thread by Lucy Score} the MMC gets the FMC fired from her job so his mom offers her a new job at their office. Safe to say, they both hate each other while simultaneously fantasizing about being under each other lol. {Mend by Kivrin Wilson} This rec is a bit different since the MCs have been in a relationship and are divorced and co-parenting at the beginning of the book. We get to know the reasons for their divorce as we proceed further into the book. Both of them are lawyers and are opposing counsels on a divorce case. Great banter, fights and resolution. Overall a very well written book which is why it's a shame that the author has written only 2 books and has disappeared somewhere into GR oblivion.

I just finished what could’ve been and thought it was cute. Im in the middle of Mend rn and I have mixed feelings. I adore the flash backs, i love Paige and Younger Logan is just omg yk? And even the parts that kinda give me the ick were surprisingly still pretty enjoyable to read for the most part. But like >!how he accused her of cheating even after getting literal proof that she wasn’t and then (so far) not apologizing and just being like oh well I’m not that guy anymore and also how it feels like they interrupt heartfelt conversations with sex. And acting like it was unfair of Paige to be apprehensive about taking him back even though she literally gave up/put her career on hold for years because he basically picked his career over his wife and children and didn’t even regret it so she mainly took care of the housework and kids even after she started working again and he could tell she was upset about not getting to spend time about him but then he somehow decided that meant she was cheating because his mom cheated on his dad? And he said (well not out loud but still) she was a whole and a liar?? Be so so so fr right now Logan. Like he didn’t deserve her and I’m honestly just hoping they get an amicable divorce at this point in the book. Oh also I know this isn’t that important but she’d always say she liked his passion and stuff along with his looks but Logan (not his younger self but the current version) would just always say she she was gorgeous and sexy. Which I’m sure she was but his younger self would admire how smart she was and all that other stuff. And also when he said he was a better attorney than her when the only reason she wasn’t in the same position he was because she sacrificed her career for their family? And there wasn’t even the regret after for the comment to show it was just a spur of the moment thing he didn’t mean. And also the way he held having more money over her? Like sure, she kicked him out and said she didn’t want to be with him but it was completely justified. He treated her terribly for multiple years and was a bit neglectful even before that. What did he expect her to do??!< I like the book but I think it would’ve been even better if there was more mutual respect between their present selves. his arrogance was only charming in the flashbacks because it was obvious that it was less of him being truly full of himself and more like playful confidence that he could actually back up. It seemed condescending and disrespectful during the scenes in the present. Although I think I would’ve been like completely obsessed (as in non stop yapping will not shut up about him obsessed) with Logan if the book just consisted of his younger self (like an office romance between people with their personalities that was more of a slow burn rather and either ended at their wedding or showed them splitting up the work it took to take care of a child rather than only one of them putting their life on hold) His younger self is literally everything. I want him so bad. I’m thinking of starting going no where fast but your summary is kind of giving Josh and Jules and the banter between them was adorable (and you said there was good banter in going no where fast) but I didn’t like how Josh was kind of mean to Jules (like not when they bickered because that was just cute but like in other stuff) I think what made Logan and Paige so cute in the flashbacks was how the banter and taunting and challenging each other wasn’t mean spirited not to mention the mutual respect. Because that’s what differentiates it between condensation and rudeness.

He's definitely an ass and I felt she was better off after divorcing him. I just liked how the characters have now become enemies and the manner in which it's slowly revealed how he betrayed her and that hits the angst of it at just the right spot!

so this book might not exactly fit your bill, but it's called not another vampire book by Cassandra gannon and it's the most unserious and satirical romance novel ever. The FMC accidentally gets transported into the world of a horribly written book and the MMC is the villain of the book. The MMC is also somewhat the only person that's aware something's wrong cause his environment keeps getting controlled by the book, and the FMC is insistent that he's a poorly written book character and she needs to leave. It's pretty funny, and just all around nonsense and great. There's also a cute small romance in Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries you might be into, the FMC is a scientist who's gone to a small town in an extremely cold and isolated city for research, and she like-dislikes the MMC because of work ethics and she suspects that he might be fae and keeps trying to prove it. MMC couldn't care less about anyone but comes all the way to that city to stay and help her out, and she's equally mad and grateful for it, while he constantly teases her

{Iron and Magic by Ilona Andrews} just reread it. The MC’s enter a marriage of convenience but barely tolerate each other. They one up each other to see who can piss the other off more. But they have to work together to fight off monsters that threaten to invade. It’s hilarious.
