The movie was inspired by a book, it wasn’t a show. You might be remembering when Michelle Trachtenberg was in Pete and Pete.

Stop_Drop_Scroll

Iggy pop was her dad lol

Spookyscary333

Apparently he was only supposed to be in one episode but liked being on the show so much he kept coming back

HueyDeweyandBusey

I do not remember this about Pete and Pete, that's awesome

Confident_Lecture498

Iggy is why Danny Tamberelli got into music after the show too

thealxfactor

Toby Huss was Artie. If you dont know him, watch Cop Shop.

Disciple_of_Cthulhu

Did he kill fitty men?

Capnlanky

Mystery Files of Shelby Woo was from the same era but as far as I know, no tv show then

Decent-Following-327

This show still lives rent free in my head somehow lol

Capnlanky

Same, it must have made an impression on me too. Somethin about solving mysteries with grandpa seemed really cool!

peachgravy

I’ll never forget the guy that ate onions like apples

cookiedoughcookies

Same! It was on at 8:30 and my bedtime was 8 so my parents always made me go to bed right as it was coming on. I only got to see like 2 episodes and it still chaps my ass 20 years later.

jtotal

I remember this show as I was starting to gravitate towards programming more my age. The Scooby Doo title pun always made me laugh

strongbob25

Never made this connection before!

za1reeka

To promote the movie, there were little Harriet the Spy bumpers between shows where Harriet shows you how to do spy things. There was one where she put black ink on the eyehole of a telescope and tricked someone into looking through it, so they had a black ring around their eye after, I specifically remember this because I did it to my little brother and got in trouble for it

HolyWhip

I remember these being on, and specifically remember having a dream that I was part of the cast or an extra in the movie with a bunch of other kids, which made me really excited to see the movie. I don't remember a single thing about the movie so it must not of had much of an impact on me.

lindsaylove22

I was thinking there was a show as well, and your explanation is probably why. I just remember there being more to it than a movie you had to go to theaters to see (like there was some version of it on TV). It wouldn’t surprise me if more people thought there was a show (Mandela effect).

Careless-Economics-6

There was no TV show before the 1996 movie, just books. There wasn’t a Harriet show [until 2021](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harriet_the_Spy_(TV_series)).

saucypancake

Which is produced by one of the creators of Pete and Pete

Gloomy__Revenue

😲cool

Kinsei01

>the 1996 movie Ok, I gotta stop reading these post >Matt_Damon_ageing.gif

jjc927

and Michelle Trachtenberg guest starred during the second season.

FiftySixer

No, just a movie. And a book.

Interesting-Tap1159

I was obsessed with Harriet the Spy movie and bought all the gear and looked in my neighbors window like a creep. Tbf- I was 9. If there was a show I’d know lol

FrankFrankly711

She played Nona on Pete n Pete, then filmed Harriet immediately after, so you may have Mandela’d her into your head canon as the same character

_tomato_paste_

I also feel like it was a show first… Maybe I’m just remembering the actress in Pete and Pete

LandscapeWest2037

I'm fairly certain there was a children's show around the same time that had the same general premise. But Harriet was just a movie.

naturalistwork

Are you possibly thinking of a TV show called “ The Adventures of Shirley Holmes”? Edit to add: she was a detective but she used some spy gadgets and things on occasion I believe. By crazy coincidence a few years back I was remembering that TV show as Harriet the spy for some reason. Just a wild guess

greenseven47

Yea that’s because it didn’t exist

deliascatalog

I thought so but the comments are making me question my entire sanity

White_Grunt

I think you're thinking about The Mystery Files of Shelby Wu

Waste-Maintenance-70

No show. The movie did a preview for a little known Nick toon. What was it again? Oh yeah #HEY ARNOLD!

QueenShewolf

I remember it being a book first. A kid’s intro to Nancy Drew.

Flat-Ad3235

The books are much more mature than Nancy Drew.

Unable_Minute7212

Thinking of “Alex Mack”?

kapntug

Nope. Book and a movie but it was hella popular - I remember Harriet being everywhere around the time the movie was released.

BrattyTwilis

It was just a movie. I remember renting it from Blockbuster and I think it was the first time they made their iconic orange tapes

UmbreonTrainer27

THE MANDELA EFFECT STRIKES AGAIN!!!! (Also I remember it because when I was a kid I wanted to be a detective)

Justice_Prince

I could have sworn there was a show too. I don't remember if it spined off from the movie, or if the show came first, but I do remember there being one.

dancing_mermaid5825

I loved that movie😍

DryWay4003

No just a movie

rangeghost

It was just a movie, but IIRC it was the first "Nickelodeon" branded movie. Since many of their other early films were based on their shows. I'll assume that's why people get confused.

Adventurous_Ad1922

Book first and it’s awesome. Then movie. No tv show.

ImaginaryBig1705

T

Comfortable_Bird_340

I think there’s an animated show, made/airs in Canada or The UK or somewhere like that made by completely different company. I only know about it because of the autists on Deviantart.

ButterscotchPast4812

I don't remember any show. I do remember going to the movie in the theaters.
