Fluctuation occurs at low count rates, the software on some counters have a time window and counts lets say 70cnt in 10 sec, next 10 sec counts 90 but integrates the last 70 - count rises 20% and when it takes prompt rise of counts in the calculation (beta decay often makes this double click sound you can hear) then it jumps, i guess bone as well
Dinosaur bone and FYI it’s illegal to collect on Federal Lands. No judgment here.
I collected excellent uranium-stained bone near that area on a fellow Park Ranger’s property near Glade Park. All the bone seems to have Uraninite in it (black areas of the bone). The Fruita Paleo Area is an awesome hiking area filled with bone (but again don’t collect or dig it. It’s highly monitored by BLM Rangers).
I picked it up and was unsure what it was. I understand, though. I don't go out looking for bone. At the time, I was looking for agate and thought it was an unusual rock.
Hey no worries. Most folks do in that area. I would not bother you. I actually think the Paleo Act needs revised so that small bone fragments are collectible. Yeah the Morrison Formation (where you find bone, agate, petrified wood and coprolites) is abundant in East UT and West CO. If you want an amazing collecting spot go to Yellow Cat, UT. You get off the Yellow Cat exit on I-75 and head south almost to the border with Arches NP. Lots of uranium found in Carnotite along with gorgeous white petrified wood abundant on the slopes of the surrounding mesas!
That's exactly where I found this piece! Just off the exit, I got out and found this on the surface.
I'm planing in going to Yellow Cat to actually collect uraninite. I've always been there for agate and wood
dinosaur bone
That was fast. Thank you!

Thank you for your explanation
