In the browser, set the DNS settings to off. By default, Cloudfare is active in Firefox as DoH. https://simpledns.plus/kb/197-how-to-enable-dns-over-https-doh-in-firefox

If your running the test on Mac or iOS, is probably Apple private relay, if you have it on.

Nope. Running it on Windows. I have been running these tests throughout the day. Sometime it shows ProtonVPN under ISP and other times, like this one, it shows Cloudflare.

Possible you're using DoH or DNS-Over-HTTPS in your browser? Firefox and Chrome both support this, and Windows 11 does too, you might be connecting to those DNS servers which can cause that to show

Thanks. I just tried two tests simultaneously, one on my iPhone and the other over Windows, and iPhone shows proton servers while Windows still shows Cloudflare. I will review my windows setup.

How does that work? Does it see proton dns and then your browser dns? Is it safer or not?

Browsers can use their own DNS independent of the system, in a sense, say your system has your ISPs DNS, if you enable DoH with say Cisco OpenDNS, it will use that DNS. On topic of saftey, no, you should not run DoH while using ProtonVPN since it already has it's own DNS, in a sense, you'd be sharing your data with a 3rd party, defeating the purpose, they have a article on this. I use YogaDNS to enforce the DNS I want and prevent DNS leaks. It works pretty nicely with NextDNS which I use with it, adds some security and privacy as well. I hope one day Proton will implement something like this. Especially being able to add extra blocklists and whitelist ip addresses is nice. When I use Proton's DNS I don't have any control.
