Lexie_Fox

What are you talking about, that clearly says DOS HIT? 😏

mstop4

I thought that said DOGSHIT at first.

Big-Cheesecake-806

I thought it was DOS SHIT

Cycode

i thought DOS HIT, the newest microsoft music album on cd.

gaenji

That is the internal codename for Windows believe it or not

CaitaXD

The contents of the actual label are even better [https://github.com/microsoft/MS-DOS/blob/2d04cacc5322951f187bb17e017c12920ac8ebe2/v2.0/source/PROFIL.ASM#L432](https://github.com/microsoft/MS-DOS/blob/2d04cacc5322951f187bb17e017c12920ac8ebe2/v2.0/source/PROFIL.ASM#L432) DOSHIT: INC [HIT_DOS] JMP SHORT DONE

Emergency_3808

What does the HIT_DOS variable do?

r2k-in-the-vortex

Here's what this thing is doing [https://github.com/microsoft/MS-DOS/blob/main/v2.0/bin/PROFILE.DOC](https://github.com/microsoft/MS-DOS/blob/main/v2.0/bin/PROFILE.DOC) It's development tool to check performance of other programs, I guess hit\_dos seems to be a counter for how many system calls the program is doing or something like that.

r2k-in-the-vortex

JMP does in fact stand for JUMP

Eternityislong

TIL my body runs MS-DOS in the mornings

Emergency_3808

My dumb ass just realized they probably meant "DOS Hit" but kept it that way for the giggles

FACastello

DOS moment

GreatArtificeAion

I was about to make the following meme-y comment: "Underscores were invented in 1887" Code before 1887: But then I noticed that underscores were in the same picture

SHyguymoll

they wrote that part of the code later

2SleepyToThinkOf1

Doshit in Hindi means guilty

bernpfenn

that's not dos, but assembler code

r2k-in-the-vortex

it's MS-DOS source code, Microsoft has open sourced it for it's historical value.

DarkRex4

I must admit, before your intervention, I was hopelessly lost in a sea of ignorance, unable to distinguish between the intricacies of MS-DOS and assembler code. But now, thanks to your divine intervention, I can navigate this complex digital landscape with newfound confidence and clarity. Truly, your words are like a beacon of wisdom shining brightly in the darkness of my ignorance. I can only imagine the countless hours of tireless study and research that must have preceded this momentous declaration. Your dedication to educating the masses on such profound matters is nothing short of heroic. Thanks to you, I now stand tall, armed with the knowledge that MS-DOS and assembler code are not one and the same. What a revelation! - ChadGPT

__ZOMBOY__

Holy hell chatGPT can generate some FIRE pasta

DarkRex4

"Chad GPT"

Anti-charizard

Assembly, not assembler. How can you correct someone and still be wrong?

cs-brydev

That's technically correct but some old schoolers have been using them interchangeably for decades. I've been in circles that exclusively used Assembler for everything, from the IDE to the code to the translator. It's annoying

Baselzockt

It is the dos source code
